[US] My doc charged $385 for a Zoom call. Is there nothing that can be done? Posted: 17 May 2020 09:30 AM PDT I'm sure he billed it as a regular office visit but obviously he could not do any of the "normal" stuff such as take my BP, weight, check breathing and so on. Yes, I have chronic medical conditions and I've accepted (maybe wrongfully so) that this pretty much gives him free rein to jack up the cost. I won't go into specifics publicly but I have regular office visits every 3-4 months and this is what it costs each time. After insurance I have to pay nearly $200 OOP. The one time I tried to question it I was given the runaround. The insurance company was no help and the office manager seems to be well-trained in double-talk. It feels like there are people who get charged a premium because they can be. I also could not get blood work done before the visit because everything was shut down. Is there an "official" method to question these costs? Still waiting for my EOB for this visit to arrive to see what he submitted. It sure seems counterproductive to have insurance but to not want to go to the doc because it costs too much. I have a HDHP, employer sponsored. Update: located in US, doc is in NY. DO NOT Use Molina For Health Insurance Posted: 17 May 2020 07:11 PM PDT It as a scam. I was so excited to finally have a "real" health insurance plan, and I selected Molina because they had the best price on Marketplace for what I was looking for. I have depression, so it was very important to me that they covered psychiatrist and therapy appointments, as well as of course routine doctor appointments and labwork and any medications I might need. None of that happened, and I wasted so so much time trying to make it happen. First off, they would not cover labwork from my doctors office, so I couldn't get the labs my doctor ordered. They said I could call around and find a lab they did cover. The nearest was 2 hours away and I couldn't ever actually get a hold of that lab anyway. I had a suspected UTI at one point, and asked them how I could get treatment since I couldn't get labwork, and doctors can't just guess as what's wrong with you. Molina said my doctor would need to file an urgent lab request, which would take several days, and then I would need to coordinate my doctors office with the lab two hours away, and then if that works out spend 4 hours drive time to go submit a sample out there. UTIs are painful, and can get worse and require hospitalization quickly. I don't think my car at the time could have made it 4 hours on the highway, so if I asked them how that would work if I was sick with something infectious, and they said I would probably need to use public transport. So if you get sick, look forward to waiting 3 days (if they even complete it on time, which they never did) and then trying to coordinate everything, and then infecting others for four hours on public transport, if you don't require hospitalization by the time the lab request is completed. Great. Their customer service line has a "malfunction" where usually it will take you through prompts and then tell you the prompt to speak to a person is "invalid." So I had to go through the nurseline and have them transfer me over. I told them about this problem but it was never fixed. I also told them half a dozen times that my online portal doesn't work, and that was never resolved either. When I would finally get through to someone, I was often put on hold for half an hour, and often disconnected. I tried SO hard to get a psychiatrist appointment, as my depression was the primary reason I selected such an expensive plan. First they sent me a list with hundreds and hundreds of names and numbers. I spend days and days calling all of them. Not a single one accepted Molina and was in fact a current psychiatrist office. Many numbers had been disconnected for years, others had never been a psychiatrist office, most others could not recall a time they ever accepted Molina. One was honest with me and said no one will work with them as they don't pay for anything. After finally getting through to someone from Molina, they said I would have to go through the county list of "in-network psychiatrists," hundreds of pages long, and then maybe I could file an appeal. I spent a day going through that list with similar results. After many many more phone calls with Molina, speaking to a manager many times, finally I filled an appeal, and I was told they would call me back in 5 days. When I called back after a week, they said they had no new information and would call me back in a couple days. This continued on and on and on. Months later, they said they had found someone for me, but when I called that number, they said they didn't cover my conditions, I could only go there if my primary care physician was there, and they were booking 3 months out for new appointments. There was so so many other issues. They got rude quickly when I tried to get them worked out. It was such a relief when the end of the year came and I was able to switch. I switched to Priority Health, and it's been wonderful so far. I've already been into a psychiatrist and therapist, no problems yet, and I've gotten care for various other ailments so easily, by several doctors. It does take a bit for things to go through, but so far most of it has gone through fine. They did deny one cheap online visit, but I just called them, and I of course launched into a long defensive explanation of why they should have covered it, but the representative just cut me off and said "It's okay! I completely understand, and I think this was a mistake, so I'm pushing it through to review right now. This happens sometimes, but this will hopefully get it covered for you." But it is in review now, no fighting, no gazillion calls, so hopefully this will again show me how different this insurance company is. So far, they've covered everything else they promised they would, every doc they say is in network is, and it's just been such smooth sailing. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 May 2020 01:14 AM PDT So, I have two cars under my registeration. One in progressive and one in state farm. before u ask y separate? progressive was cheaper for that car even with discount. my other car has been on pause on state farm since january. I drive neither car, both sitting in garage untouched. state farm one since january, progressive one for 10 weeks. I don't plan on driving them either for many more months due to covid. Now, in terms of gap insurance for my rates, can I just renew one car or if i don't renew the other my premium will still go up? My state of IL, the progressive rep told me that there's no penalty for having just comprehensive/storage. I tried calling DMV but they didn't pick up. If I don't want insurance on one or both how can i turn in my plates? Or is there some sort of extension due to covid? What will happen if I don't renew coverage for one or both cars and later try to get insurance on them many months from now. In that case, will insurance companies still increase my rate due to lapse assuming I don't get coverage on one or both cars? How would that be my fault, if im trying to turn in my plates? Might just junk the state farm car as it's a beater. car's worth like $500 and paying insurance on it isn't worth it i think. Is it still considered lapse if i never got insurance on the car again but got rid of it? [link] [comments] |
Can you buy a car in your name and put the insurance in somebody else name. Posted: 17 May 2020 08:47 PM PDT Im 20 i stay in Louisiana and i use go auto and i pay 175 for my truck but im on the market for a Dodge Charger scat pack and i was wondering if i could put the car in my name but put the insurance under my mothers name. medicaid? question? (17m, will be 18 by the time this will be relevant) Posted: 17 May 2020 08:13 PM PDT i need medical care and don't want my parents to know about it, plus not being on their insurance is beneficial in other ways. i want to apply for medicaid because i believe in my state it covers the type of care that i need and i'd also be able to get cheaper auto insurance which is kind of important to my specific situation, my question is: do i have the authority to take myself off of their insurance, or would i be able to apply for medicaid despite being covered by my parents insurance- i make very little money and i would be financially independent from them by the time i'd be seeking care. does that have any impact on whether i'd be eligible or not? my parents would absolutely use my health info against me. edit: i live in new jersey [link] [comments] |
Any good insurance underwriting course I can take online? Posted: 17 May 2020 11:49 PM PDT I have been fascinated by the industry for some time. Before taking it up full time, I'd like to take a course online to understand the basics better. Btw, I'm not from the states. [link] [comments] |
Hit a deer in coworkers car, best way to claim? Posted: 17 May 2020 08:03 PM PDT Long time friend and coworker so no grief over this. My colleague was letting me borrow his Tacoma to take my lawnmower to the shop. On the way hone I hit a deer, not terrible but bumper, fender, door. We're wondering the best way to call it in. Should he call it in and I pay his deductible, or should I just call it in on my insurance? We have the same provider, Erie, and the same deductibles. I live in MD and he WV. Not sure how all that works, especially the warranty work and stuff since car isn't in my name. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 07:22 PM PDT I have Geico. I am located in California. I am afraid that if I call and use insurance to cover windshield cost, my premium would increase. Has anyone have any experience with this? If so what is your recommendation? I have no idea how the crack occur. I think its from a rocked kicked up from driving on the highway and then over the next two days the cracked got bigger over time. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 10:38 PM PDT I will be renting a 2 bedroom apartment for myself (someone might join me after 4-5 months) in Alberta Canada and need to get tenant insurance. I was trying to do an online quote at TD & ZipSure Insurance but it appears that when I say yes to if I have a home-based business (I have a home-based self-publishing business, more details at the bottom), It doesn't go forward & asks that I rather call for the quote. I will be calling to inquire for the quote but am wondering if there were any suggestions on which insurance providers I should check with in addition to TD & ZipSure Insurance. Here's more details on my home-based amazon business in case it helps: I authored some books that I sell on Amazon. Their ebooks, paperback & audiobook versions and will be claiming home office expenses in my taxes. When a customer places an order: o Paperback books: Amazon prints the books on demand & ships to them. o Ebooks: Amazon gives them a digital ebook of the book. o Audiobooks: Amazon gives them a digital audiobook version of the book. Going from medical claims processor to claims adjuster Posted: 17 May 2020 02:36 PM PDT I got a job as a medical claims processor and would eventually like to get a job as an actual claims adjuster. How much experience does one typically need as a processor to get such a job? Will my experience as a claims processor help me in finding a claims adjusting job in other forms of claims such as worker comp or property? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
My PCP listed for my insurance closed down.... Posted: 17 May 2020 08:15 PM PDT I have Delta Dental for my dental insurance and they automatically chose my primary care physician last year. A few days ago my amalgam fell out and I've had very bad tooth pain, so I immediately tried to get an appointment with my PCP, only to find out they closed down! (Not covid related.) I tried to change my PCP on Delta Dental's website but the new provider won't be effective till June 1. Delta Dental will only cover stuff with my listed PCP. I can't wait till then to go to the dentist in fears that it will get worse, so I will call my insurance tomorrow and see if what they can do. I guess my question is, has anybody here dealt with something similar? Can my insurance company be like "sucks to be you" or can I hold them responsible for it? I've only heard bad stuff about insurance companies and I suck at confrontations. Btw, I'm in Texas. Thank in advanced! Should I file a "water back up" claim? Posted: 17 May 2020 07:29 PM PDT I would love your opinion on my current predicament. In Illinois, we just received some torrential rain. Flash flood warnings, towns look like ponds, ETC. About 8 years ago I added "water back-up" and 2 years later my basement flooded via sewer back up. I filed a claim and received monies. Hail damaged the roof a few years later, filed a claim and it was denied and I was subsequently dropped from Statefarm. I moved on to Allstate and have been with them for about 4 years. had an at fault car accident. Also added the sewer back up 2 years ago. basement currently backed up with water again and has flooded. should I file a claim? would you? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 05:44 PM PDT So....I went to my dads to drop some stuff off in April (around 27th) I pulled in and parked. Got out went in side. The boy gets out and walks right by the officer...I think he was shocked to.....then the officer stops him....long story short the officer gives him a ticket for leaving the scene....and names him at fault.....I was given a notice of accident report... I notify my insurance and after a few days may the 2nd notify his to see what the hold up is.....he didn't report it....so I give statment...tell them I have a notice but no report yet....seeing as our city hall is shut down right now......they say no problem I assume they will handle it.....well a few days later I get an email saying their client says he wasn't envolved in any accident and they need a police report...I spew it again......they said well will try to get one and try to contact you later.....well today (may 17th) I still haven't heard from them so I called agaim.....find out.....the dropping the claim for no proof....so I spew to them again I have a notice of accident...... Posted: 17 May 2020 05:31 PM PDT Although this subreddit seems to be focused on other types of insurance, I wasn't really sure what other subreddit this would be relevant on and where I could get some answers. So I have an android phone and bought some insurance with it as well. I cracked the screen, unfortunately. So for my phone, the deductible is $100 for accidental damage but $150 for lost/stolen. Even though I didn't lose the phone, could I potentially claim it lost and just pay the $150 deductible for a new phone and just sell the old cracked screen phone. I think I can potentially sell it for over $400. Its a t-mobile locked phone with 360 protection. I'm not sure if reporting it lost will lock the phone or if they will track it. I know that is definitely a concern with apple phones, but for androids, from my understanding, t-mobile won't be able to lock the phone or track it. I'm well aware this is considered insurance fraud but isn't this easily possible? [link] [comments] |
Had a fire claim 20 months ago and coming to end of claim period. Posted: 17 May 2020 05:22 PM PDT Georgia So we have spent the last 18 months trying to figure out what all we lost and replacing stuff here and there as we go. I've been keeping up with purchases and items we are missing as we go in an excel sheet. I photographed every recognizable item that burned, but obviously some stuff was totally destroyed. We haven't submitted the items yet and are preparing to purchasing some large items such as a $2,500 welding rig, expensive car tuning equipment, etc... If I replace the welder with a $4,000 rig, can I just document the upgrade and receive the replacement value of the original machine? [link] [comments] |
Being on my Dads State Farm Car insurance for a car I am finance? Posted: 17 May 2020 04:36 PM PDT Hello all, Am I able to have my dad as a primary driver for a car that is under my name? I'm 22 so this would save me $$! Thank you ! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 07:10 AM PDT Hope everyone is having a wonderful day today. Unfortunately yesterday, my 2 weeks new to me Nissan 370z, was hit. I was at a stop sign, and the other driver, old man with one blind eye, cut his turn way too sharp, and smashed into my 2019 370z. Now that the car has been officially in a wreck, Im sure carfax reports will update, and Ill have a nasty front end car wreck damage report... his policy accepted fault which is good, and all of my repairs will be payed for. My question is, what are my chances of getting back the difference of the diminished value? These 370z's hold value really well, and now mine for sure will have dropped. I have Geico, and any input would be greatly appreciated. I'd like to get back what I've lost in the value. The accident happened in Oklahoma, but I live in Texas. [link] [comments] |

Insurance Won't Cover My Grandma's Rehab Posted: 17 May 2020 03:01 PM PDT On April 21, my grandma fell and fractured her hip. She had to get a full hip replacement. She is 87 years old and she has Alzheimers. She was living in an assisted living facility and she had to be moved to a rehab center. A couple days ago we got a call that her insurance company decided that they weren't going to pay for her rehab anymore because "she wasn't making enough progress." A few things.
My parents appealed the insurance company's decision and explained all of these things. The insurance rejected the appeal. Before her hip surgery, my grandma was able to walk on her own. She did normally use a cane or a walker, but she still had some mobility. Without receiving any physical therapy after her surgery, she may become bedridden/confined to a wheelchair. This would likely drive up the costs at her assisted living because they would then need to provide her with even more specialized care. We can't afford the price of both therapy and the living fees of the rehab center without insurance. The surgeon who operated on her also explained to us that sometimes when people don't recover well from hip surgery, it seems to shorten their lifespan. I'm utterly disgusted by the insurance company. Yes, I have always known that they were a big business, but the utter disregard for human life makes them, in my eyes, the lowest of scum. How is it even legal that you pay into insurance for so long, as my grandma did, only for them to deny you? Wtf is the point of getting insurance if they won't even cover the costs when you need it?! Putting my anger aside, there are two things I would like advice on.
We are located in Wisconsin, USA. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 17 May 2020 10:29 AM PDT A client has been divorced over 5 years and is being "forced" to cover ex spouse on health insurance plan. Is this legal? -the ex spouse is a partner / owner at a business -all of their children from marriage (now divorced) are over age 18 and are in college -client claims they are forced to cover ex spouse as a healthcare dependent despite a massive income difference and the ex now living with a new domestic partner - the ex spouse being covered as a dependent loves with his new domestic partner I am saying I don't believe my client needs to cover the ex spouse and this isn't possible to force someone to elect family coverage if you are divorced and ex partner has a new domestic partner. My client says they have a "court order" to cover the ex spouse. Lot of emotional bias from the client so came here to see what others think. I work in health and benefits and believe this is unenforceable but am I wrong? Thank you for your help. Client located in the US in the state of RI. [link] [comments] |
My Health Insurance paid 100% of my mental therapy appointments. Don't understand why. Posted: 17 May 2020 10:29 AM PDT I haven't met my deductible or out of pocket maximum. Prior to this it was paying everything except for the $20 copay. Maybe something to do with Corona? This started in mid-March. [link] [comments] |
My medical insurance company says they already sent a check but I’m still getting a bill. Posted: 17 May 2020 09:28 AM PDT In illinois. I went to an urgent care center in November 2019 and the bill came in May and is $275. In a letter they sent me, they told me I had to contact my insurance because they couldn't get a hold of them. So I called my insurance and they said they had already sent a check to cover the whole bill and it was sent on March 27, 2020, so the check should have already been received. They gave me a claim ID and everything so I know they're not lying to me. So I gave all this info back to the urgent care center and told them it should have been taken care of. Yet they sent me another bill on May 7, 2020 saying I still owe them money. I am just wondering what I should do at this point. The urgent care is telling me they never received a check and that my insurance is not in their network so they weren't expecting a check anyway. Then why would my insurance have sent a check? Auto Insurance - High prices... HELP! Posted: 17 May 2020 07:52 AM PDT Dear Redditors, I have two vehicles under my policy right now: 2017 RAV4 LE, and 2016 Focus ST When I was in Vegas I was paying about $150/month for full coverage for both vehicles ($250/$250) and renters insurance through USAA. My fiance and I moved to MD last September, and USAA wanted $800/month for the same coverage on botch vehicles (this includes renters insurance). I switched over to Geico and now paying $220/month for the same coverage. My fiance is 34 and no traffic violations, is a doctor, very good credit score (800+). I am 30 no traffic violations (only 1 speeding ticket in 2012), military, and a decent credit score (700ish). I know policies change within Zipcodes, but is there anything I can do to get cheaper insurance? I'm just baffled that USAA wants $800/month. -------------Also-------------- I plan on buying a truck (I know it will increase my premiums), but I was looking into a 2020 Tacoma TRD Sport, and Geico wanted close to $400/month MORE vs RAM 1500 Limited which was only $50/month more. I don't understand where they get these quotes and would like advice please! [link] [comments] |
