Posted: 17 May 2020 10:01 AM PDT Do i trademark "XXXX" ( business name ) Or "www.XXXX.COM" ( Domain name ) Or "XXXX.COM - The _______ company " ( company name with a tag line) ? Whats the best approach here from a branding perspective ? That can be scaled across the board ? For context, its a b2b startup and most initial leads are going to come from linkedin. Posted: 18 May 2020 12:51 AM PDT So, I had a idea for a startup. It was in my mind for at least 3 years but never worked on it. Now in this lock-down when I got the time and started working on it day & night and It is almost close to deployment (at least 3 weeks lol) then I see a post of a person who build It almost how I imagined it to be. Honestly I am happy for the dev who build it because He actually put hard work in it and made it good. What i am sad about it that Its not the first time it happened, It happens with most of the ideas i come up with. There is always someone better and faster at building things then me. Does this happen with all of you or startup world is not for me and if it does happen with all of us the what is your advise to overcome this depressing feeling. [link] [comments] |
Startups in the immigration space? Posted: 18 May 2020 12:00 AM PDT I'm wondering if there have been any startups that are working on:
Especially interested to discover startups helping governments directly, although I'm also eager to discover those with a direct to consumer model. [link] [comments] |
Struggling with early marketing and initial user growth Posted: 17 May 2020 07:49 PM PDT Hey all, a friend is working on an early fashion startup which provides a service to people selling their items and has a decent MVP. She found a few good communities to target, such as large fashion marketplace pages on facebook and various forums. She's been attempting organic growth by posting in a few of these places being very careful to not sound too "promotional" or "scammy", but unfortunately most of her posts get banned or taken down. She got her account banned from the biggest purse resale forum, which really sucks. Additionally, most individual outreach to strangers on facebook go to their message requests which many folks don't see. She doesn't want to spend money on google ads this early and she feels these communities are the best for early growth. What approach can she take? It sucks when the obvious avenues for marketing get you banned / kicked out of important communities for your startup. Would appreciate any tips! [link] [comments] |
Recommendations for free product feedback Posted: 17 May 2020 04:24 PM PDT I'm working on a website and am looking for ways to get feedback on it. Not just survey feedback, but actually have someone go to the site, play in it, and communicate what they're liking/disliking/understanding/etc. Any recommendations for free services/tools available? Something like UserTesting, but free for those of us getting started on a lean $0 budget. Would really appreciate any tips. [link] [comments] |
Two things that helped me this weekend Posted: 18 May 2020 01:26 AM PDT (not about making millions!) So it's been a positive weekend and I wanted to share two things that i did this weekend that really helped me remain positive: Back story - I'm an amateur programmer (i.e. I love it but find it hard) with a web MVP up that needs some tweaks. I was due to relaunch/repilot in a new way this summer but as it's a social product that's gone on hold until maybe christmas time. I still want to add payment integration into the site as some feedback said waiting to make a purchase was a big issue. So I've been setting up stripe. This involves using an API I've never used and reminding myself of all the ins & outs of the site. I've been struggling with getting it working for over 2 weeks and keep hitting blockers that keep me awake at night. So i changed tac and this is what I did this weekend that has helped me remain on track: ** Found a tutor*** With technical issues it'd be extremely easy for me to jump onto upwork and pay someone to fix the issue. This'd probably cost me around $150, and be worth it. Instead I setup a specific job looking for someone who'd done the task before to help me achieve my goal! Not something that comes up all that often on upwork, and I have received a number of valid proposals and I'm having a chat with two of the. One even offered to help me with queries for free Moral - Taking the short route won't help you grow Find the carrot I have ambitions to release an app version of the MVP 'in the future'. It's a big deal for the product and another big feedback point. I have never done this before! So even as i struggle with my current lack of development experience in basic codesets I've found a react native (design your first app) course on udemy and bookmarked it in my calendar for 1 weeks time. It may not give me everything i need but it's a good next step onjce the MVP is (more) ready Moral - Find the next challenge to look forward to so the current one doesn't feel so big & unending Anyway, I'm slightly closer to the solution, it's driven me to try harder and spend more time looking at the problem but i can assure you I'm 50% less "ARHHHHH" than I was on Friday! I hope this post helps someone else with a similar blocker or just stimulates a bit of chatter Happy Monday! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 18 May 2020 01:12 AM PDT Hi all, some time ago I created an app where you can pick your genre and just swipe through movies until you find something to watch. Key point is that you make a decision primarily on what other users wrote (but you have access to movie details too). Should be fairly simple to see what its about from the link here Looking for feedback - should I start working on it again? Do you find it useful? Or, if you think people wouldnt be too into it - why? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Would love your feedbacks for Mocklets. Posted: 17 May 2020 09:44 PM PDT Hi everyone!

How can my app be featured in a tech publication? Posted: 17 May 2020 02:10 PM PDT A couple of friends and I at Georgia Tech are working on a Chrome extension to give people context on what they read. We use NLP to identify named entities on a webpage that the user may need more information on, and allow the user to hover over text and easily view more info, summaries, news in a tooltip format. Nothing like it exists. We are planning on launching on Product Hunt next week and already have a top hunter who will hunt it. For our launch, I think it would also be great to be featured in some tech publications. I have reached out to influencers on twitter and so far gotten a couple of retweets but no big publications yet. What can I do to get my app featured? [link] [comments] |
I want to start an app but don’t know what pricing model to use. Posted: 17 May 2020 04:50 PM PDT I want to start an app but one of the main features of my competitors isn't going to be in my app. I'm thinking to either have it as a SaaS, for about 3$ a month. Or a freemium model, that gives the users ads and limited features unless they sign up for a premium membership, which would also be for around 3$ a month. Can you guys please give me suggestions. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Does anyone have some advice on how to build a unicorn? Posted: 17 May 2020 08:00 PM PDT I've been working as a developer for an app, which I can't discuss for obvious reasons, for many years and I'm sick and tired of it. I have an idea for a really great app, and I wanted to know how much money you think I'd need to start? Thanks so much for your feedback! [link] [comments] |
Should I go for a lower position in my business for the same salary? Posted: 17 May 2020 12:56 PM PDT Me and my friend decided to start a business. I would say I gave 60 percent of the ideas and suggestions and I am the one that chose our business niche. We are having some problems where we argue about small decisions and I am sick of it and I want to get rid of the stress. I suggested that I give him an advantage where he can make all the final business decisions while taking my suggestions only and he puts it into consideration. We will both do the same amount of work and we both invest the same amount of money in the business and we both get the same salary. He agreed to this and we will both be signing a contract by next week. Do you think that this decision is a smart one in the short and long term or is there another solution? Your perspective and suggestions would really help. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
How Notion gained its first users? Posted: 17 May 2020 02:48 AM PDT Hi I'm doing some research on Notion beginnings and how they scaled their product. Sadly I haven't been able to find much online. Does anyone know what Beta user's strategy or channels they used? All I could find was they were on Product Hunt and after that, the Wall Street Journal wrote about them Thank in advance if anyone can help :) [link] [comments] |
how did you find your co-founders? Posted: 17 May 2020 03:21 AM PDT Hello, everyone, I am currently working as a software developer for a medium sized company but I have had the desire to start my own business for a long time. But somehow I have not managed to realize my wish until today. The main reason for this is that I would like to have one or two co-founders, which I could not find until today. Since I am an experienced developer myself, I could also develop an MVP on my own, but I would be happy to have a second developer or a UI designer on board. Unfortunately, there are simply no people I know in my environment who would come into question. So I wanted to ask you how you managed to find your co-founders. Had you already started working on your product / project before you found your co-founders? I also had the experience that people first agreed to join with the promise that they would acquire the necessary skills, but then dropped out after a while. Most of them are very impatient about the topic and expect results ready for the market after only one month. Meanwhile I think that I should stop looking for a co-founder now and just keep working on my idea, so that maybe something will come up in time. What do you think? What was your way to start your own startup? [link] [comments] |
What tools do you recommend for analytics and personalized user experience? Posted: 17 May 2020 08:57 AM PDT Hi guys, I am looking for some analytics tools like Google Analytics, but with possibilities to create custom events from the backend, and also to be able to programmatically query data/events from the tool for a specific user. Goals are:
It could be a cloud solution (like GA) or a self-hosted open-source tool. How do you handle this? [link] [comments] |
Getting screwed in startup or not. What do you think? Posted: 17 May 2020 04:02 AM PDT Been on startup over a year. Since the coronavirus, the startup got into such financial problems that they could not even pay their employees so some left. One key person put some certain amount of money into it so employees could get paid, but I was the only one to not to get paid as we agreed with CEO as I would receive the money later. However, 2 months later and still no money, so I ended my work relation with them, so I have no obligation to do anything for them. With CEO, we agreed that if there was something to do, I would bill them by hourly rate (but we did not set that rate nor create a contract). Therefore they owe me 2 months of payroll and now they want me to make some bug fixes on the product as they are actively meeting with possible leads and investors. They are telling me that once they raise the money, everything will be compensated for (not on paper though). I am however very sceptical of this and I prefer not to waste my free time on this, and I am also peer pressured as I got some good friends there who are telling me not to give up... What would you do in this situation? Help them and maybe get all the money they owe you or tell them to go f*** themselves and move on and maybe lawyer up? [link] [comments] |
Looking for Website recommendations for hiring Influencers and Travel Blogers Posted: 17 May 2020 04:18 AM PDT Hey all, I'm looking for website recommendations for hiring influencers within the travel industry. I'm also looking for a website to find travel bloggers. What websites would you recommend using? Is there such thing as a website where I can post my product and price i'm willing to pay for a promo and travel bloggers/ influencers, can see my product posted and choose to then promote my product. (aka. eliminating me having to go find individual influencers/ bloggers) [link] [comments] |
