    Apricot jam price

    Posted: 16 May 2020 05:53 PM PDT

Hi! So I've recently decided to start selling my homemade jams, and I made apricot as my first to-sell batch. I'm having an issue with how much to sell the jams for, apricots are damn expensive ($2.99/lb where I live rn) and in total it cost about $2.76 just to make a 4 ounce jar of jam (including price of jar) without factoring in labor. At first I my family told me I should sell them for $4.99 each but that seems a bit pricey to me. What are your guys thoughts?

EDIL: ACCEPTED FUNDS BUT CANNOT VERIFY IDENTITY ONLINE?

    Posted: 17 May 2020 04:20 AM PDT

I received the portal for EDIL this morning. I setup my account and accepted the funds. However, when I went to verify identity it said I cannot do so online. Does anyone know why? Is it because of the amount?

Anyone know what the next step is?

Franchising a recruitment business, is it a good time given Covid?

    Posted: 17 May 2020 03:48 AM PDT

Many companies are forced to downsize their staff due to Covid, but I'm certain that new industries will emerge at the same time.

I set up a side business from my main business which focuses on 'digital recruitment'. Its meant to be remote work, lean and efficient.

I've gain some traction albeit I've hardly paid any attention to it, so I was thinking that others with time and interest could make a decent living out of this, while I could get a small commission by franchising it.

It's a digital gig, so what would a franchisee get? Perhaps for a small symbolic upfront investment I'd give them all the material and tools to get started, some training, and access to use a prominent (yet unknown) brand, website, identity, etc

What do you guys think? I guess many people will be looking to WFH in these current times, and this could also be an opportunity for them?

Please challenge my thinking with brutal honesty. Thanks

Anyone out there who started a company without having enough knowledge about it? How did you gather all the necessary skills and knowledge to be able to make the business successful?

    Posted: 17 May 2020 03:31 AM PDT

I started this small marketing company and I've already sold the idea to 3 clients; helping them out with their marketing and advertising needs. I haven't done anything tangible yet, just really explained to them how my company could help their business reach its potential through marketing. All of them loved it and they're all just waiting for my final pitch. I'm planning to outsource the necessary people (designers, photograpers) since it's just a start-up yet and just build off the man power later on.

I mean I'm handling businesses that's not in any way related to the marketing industry but since then I've always wanted this so I started doing something about it. My mentors told me to work first in a Marketing company since I'm still young (early 20's) and get the feel of it but I didn't. Instead I went straight to the people who already have the knowledge and asked them right questions which I feel is a more efficient move?

Do you think I'm doing the right thing and just hire people who already have the knowledge about it? Or working for a company first would be wiser?

I would highly appreciate your thoughts and opinions about this.

Has anyone had experience appealing unemployment benefits for employees that will not come back to work?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 02:47 PM PDT

Apologies if this has already been asked. I own a small business in NJ and am trying to reopen but am having trouble getting my employees to come back to work.

I've taken the necessary precautions at work (installed shields at the checkout station (similar to grocery stores), have stocked PPE for staff and am only allowing one customer in the store at one time to pay.

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate on this sub and I don't want to force anyone to come back to work but this is really my last option. My business is how I make my living and while I have slowly begun hiring other employees, it has been tough to staff up to what I need. Former employees that are drawing unemployment will increase my UI tax rate going forward ( I think this is how it works). I'm hoping the appeal will either get my employees to come back or stop my UI taxes from going up.

Has anyone had any experiences filing an appeal of benefit determination? Any information or feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Small baked good business questions

    Posted: 16 May 2020 05:11 PM PDT

My wife and I are putting together a small business to sell baked goods at farmers markets and fairs while also selling to local businesses and online. Wondering if anyone can help answer what kind of insurance would be needed out of the gate. We're in Minnesota if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Pain points in your business that could be solved with software

    Posted: 16 May 2020 07:29 PM PDT

I know this may sound a little general but I'm in the process of trying to come up with a software solution for small businesses so I thought I would ask: what are some pain points you face in running your business that you believe could be solved with a software application? Or is there some software that you use to run your business but it lacks many features which you think would be useful. Or maybe you think it's overpriced? Essentially, I'm searching for niche B2B SaaS ideas.

If you have an idea and would like to partner with me and help me understand the domain, I'm definitely open to that.

Documentation Required for Small Props for Forgiveness according to guidelines

    Posted: 16 May 2020 02:25 PM PDT

Hi all: Thanks for your help of late. According to the document, we need to submit PPP Loan Forgive. Calc. Form, PPP Schedule A and then it lists Payroll:

    a) Bank statement showing cash comp paid to employees (I am the sole employee/sole prop) - would I just include a statement from the account that the funds are in and the weekly withdrawals to total the 8/52 amount of Line 31 Schedule C?

    b) Tax forms that overlap the covered period: would this be the Quarterly tax payment that overlaps this time? Is it going to hurt if I make any money?

    c) I am not pursing anything but the income replacement so - no receipts on line item c.

FTE: Documentation (does this apply to us if we have no employees but self owner?) I am guessing not.

I would appreciate any advice on this. Many thanks -

    Grant Email - Application Deleted

    Posted: 16 May 2020 08:16 AM PDT

This post might get deleted here now since it's EIDL-related.

I just received this email from the SBA.

We have received multiple applications from your business for economic injury as a result of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Your earliest application will continue to be processed and we have withdrawn application number 33003xxxxx from active consideration.

Thing is, the 33003xxxxx is my first application.

Is the SBA even real at this point? Or is this just some trolling attempt by the government.

I'm guessing they meant that my 2nd application would now be considered instead, but... I'm not sure I want to call to ask.

    Fulfilling state government contracts?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 09:08 PM PDT

    Hello,

I am a Computer Engineer with experience in Software Development. I am currently a federal employee and while I know bidding on contracts on the federal level is not allowed for me, how about the state level? The work would be done during off-study hours. I am completely new to the idea of contracts and was wondering if there is any issues/restrictions. Thanks!

    How to make shipping cheap

    Posted: 16 May 2020 04:51 PM PDT

I am (19F) and want to start an ecommerce beauty business. I have planned my first product but I am having trouble with shipping prices.

standard shipping in my country (I'm not planning on international shipping just yet) is $8.95. The cost of my product is $6. I don't want to up the cost of my product as this product in the market is sold for cheaper and it's a very small product. Unless should I make the product $14.95, including shipping?

Otherwise, are there any shipping companies that will ship for cheaper than 8.95?

    Export US prescription drug

    Posted: 16 May 2020 07:49 PM PDT

I'm trying to export prescription drug (ie. Lipitor, etc.), but i'm having problem finding detail information about it. I would love to get some pointer. What I gather so far: * You can only export unless you're a pharmacy? * Where can I contact? Are there pharmaceutical brokers, or do I directly contact the manufacture?

How important is receiving and sending business payments in real-time to your business?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 06:16 PM PDT

I am doing research for my b2b payments related study, looking at a number of industries inc. tech/e-commerce/brick-mortar and would really appreciate your opinions!

As a business owner what would you typically prefer when sending/receiving b2b payments (suppliers, vendors, inc. internationally). For argument sake we'll assume international transactions there is no currency exchange markup from provider.

    1) Lower fee ($0-$0.50) payment, can take 1-5 working days. (minimal fraud protection)

    2) Higher flat fee ($5-20 or up to 1-2%) real-time payments with higher fraud protection and funds are available immediately.

    Thanks!

    Question about FDA registration?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 03:56 PM PDT

Not sure where to ask this, so I apologize if this is the wrong place for it.

1.I'm kind of confused as to what kind of company has to register under the FDA? Like if you decide to make a company that imports tooth paste or masks to sell in the US for example, would the company have to register as an importer? If so, how long does it generally take to get registered and what are the costs?

    1. If a company sells items from Aliexpress on Amazon or Ebay, would they have to register on the FDA website as well? From what I know, most items go directly from Aliexpress to the customer through these websites, so would FDA registration be needed? Or does this depend on what kind of item you are selling?

Looking for a CRM for B2B SAAS

    Posted: 16 May 2020 09:22 AM PDT

I am going to be selling software subscriptions for a niche industry. I want to be able to call leads and basically when I pick up the phone the software logs it. Or when they call in it pops up the lead and their history. I want to take notes after every call and be able to have them pop up. I want to set follow up reminders after every call.

I don't need it to integrate with social media. I don't need it to create a shopify store. I don't need it to interface with accounting or any other software. I can do all of the invoicing and accounting in my own software or something else.

I'm basically looking for a glorified contacts list. I will supply all of the leads. They will be by company, but it is possible I would try multiple people at the same company and see where I make the most inroads. So it should take notes on each person at a company like "not interested" or "very interested but needs manager approval". Then when a company says no, to take them off of the list basically (but not delete them).

This to me sounds all really basic, like there have got to be 100 packages that do this. But I am trying to keep it simple, every time I look at a crm software it does 99 other things I don't want or need. I don't have the phone yet or the phone number, if that matters. Finding the right digital phone is also harder than it should be, maybe I will make a separate thread for that.

Finally, if it has a support feature that would be a bonus. Meaning, someone reports a bug and the software allows you to create a support ticket. But again I can find something else to do this to keep it simple. Like literally a post it note. But better to just have software that logs the person that called, the time, the number they called from, the company they work for, and let me type in the issue from there, if all that data is already going to be in the system from the beginning. And if it isn't, then that should be a prompt that I need to put this person in.

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

How would the 80/20 rule apply to employee/workplace culture?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:26 AM PDT

The Pareto Principle aka the 80/20 rule suggests that in many facets of life 80% of results can be attributed to 20% of the input (give or take in the actual percentages). In your opinion, in small business, what 20% of input accounts for 80% of the results in terms of businesses that have created strong workplace cultures?

Start a business while on unemployment (CA)?

    Posted: 16 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

Hi, does anyone know if I will put my unemployment benefits at risk if I start an LLC? Located in California, USA. I'm not expecting to make profits while on unemployment but will likely make a little revenue. This would be a side hustle so I plan on being able/available to work full time if something comes along. I did some googling, but haven't found much credible information. Anyone possibly had real experience in this or talked to someone at EDD about this?
