90% of traders lose money, the 10% make money from the 90% Posted: 17 May 2020 09:25 AM PDT Correct me if I am wrong but I came to this theory as I did some accounting/bookkeeping for a day trader. Trading money is very volatile. Some days you make 10, next day your up 20, third day you are down 50 etc...This is even with swing trading you will lose money on some swings, even options which seem like throwing money in the air predicting the future. This is hit and miss. Sure with consistency you will end with profits at the end of the year. The main way the 10% of traders make money is they make some "trading strategy," and end up selling courses on the strategy, and also make a platform where they share trades and people paying monthly subscriptions, make a book and people buy their trading book...etc. I saw that this is consistant and stable income from my day trading friend who is a successful day trader...he simply makes money from the 90% of day traders who pay him for courses, subscriptions, books, classes etc. I guess what I am trying to say is unless you are like my friend who is dedicating his life to trading and teaching you are better off long term investing, learning a skill which will lead to higher pay and equity and consistent income. Correct me if I am wrong. Edit: Thanks for the comments everyone, important knowledge to be learned! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 06:26 PM PDT Looking to do my initial investment for my Roth IRA I opened recently. I don't have enough as of now to buy into a mutual fund (I'm using Vanguard). I'm 23 y/o, and so far plan on putting about 60% into VTI. I'm looking for a good secondary ETF to pair it with. Going with something like SCHD seems attractive, as eventually I'd like to have a nice dividend related portfolio down the road. I'm just not sure if that's a smart position to take in my Roth, considering I'm so young and could take advantage of growth. Please let me know your opinions! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 02:22 PM PDT I know very little about the grand scheme of how it all works. But I wanna know where the legit resources are for learning how to trade and in general the way it all works. I'm not someone who believes trading is a way to get rich quick. I'm not trying to get rich. I'm trying to gather information on how to get started. My goal is to have low risk and invest slowly over the course of many years to come. I'm taking some Econ courses for elective credits in school next semester. What's the best way to learn what I need to learn? I don't wanna use google and end up on someones "How to invest and get rich quick" scheme. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 04:30 PM PDT I have a long term belief in renewable energy as an alternative to fossil fuels. I have a modest portfolio of 3,000 dollars within my risk tolerance. But I am clueless on where I should even begin my research in solar energy and other energy companies. There are just so many out there and I don't know what to do. In order to profit off solar, id likely have to know which countries are going to step up or even subsidize production in the future (probably not the US as far as I can tell). Even if one is accurate about the broader trend you can still get left behind if you're not paying attention it the smaller picture as well. Does anyone have any tips/tricks or insights? I'm trying to improve my ability to be more self reliant in the future and any and all help is much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 04:05 PM PDT I've been trading for about 6 weeks now and have made a 101% return on my portfolio. I want to think I'm making smart trades but I feel like 6 weeks isn't a very long time frame and I could just be getting lucky. Is 3-6 months of consistent profit long enough to say I'm trading well? I obviously have losses, which would be significantly less if PDT rule didn't prevent me from stopping the bleeding, but most of my trades are green [link] [comments] |
New investor here. Need translation help Posted: 17 May 2020 07:02 PM PDT This is a segment of an XFL weekly article. It was posted yesterday. I know very little about stocks but somebody suggested this symbol as an actionable piece this coming week. Anyway. Can somebody help me translate this segment of the article into beginner language? Here it is: Last week's late buyers failed in Monday's auction at key resistance as rotation lower toward key support developed in Tuesday's trade. Buyers trapped there as a breakdown developed to 20.09s in Thursday's auction. Buy excess formed there, halting the selloff before a relief rally ensued toward the breakdown area into week's end. The highest probability path near-term is for price discovery lower, provided 22.32s holds as resistance. Bullish breadth saw an aggressive decline from the bullish extreme zone [link] [comments] |
Can a stock ever recover from going bankrupt? Posted: 17 May 2020 06:50 PM PDT JC Penny's stock for instance. Could it ever recover? Say I buy it as a penny stock and invest like $20 couldn't it potentially make me a lot of money even if it recovered to $5? Or is it done forever as far as trading is concerned? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 06:15 PM PDT I've been having it on my watchlist and it's looking juicy. They've been doing great across the board in terms of revenue, EPS, P/E is a little less than the 5 year average. Anyone keeping an eye for when they share earning later this week? I wish knew about it before the dip but how high can a stock really go? ATM it's 239 maybe I'll grab around 200-210? HD is the biggest weight puller in my ETF (SCHD), so I guess I'd want a bigger piece of the action? Or it this redundant? [link] [comments] |
SLV - I still don't think it's too late long term. Still time left Posted: 17 May 2020 04:56 PM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8YsklP3Apg I have made so far in 1 year in the video above of 100% gains off of price action of flipping SLV and DSLV with some Tesla dips, of mostly gains from holding SLV for its crazy moves upwards. Posted: 17 May 2020 04:45 PM PDT So, let's say I had 100 euro. I open a position and I'm 70 up so I technically have 170 but 70 is my profit. If I open another position when I reach 200 and it goes into minus 170, would it close or would it have to reach minus 200? Which would be my 1st position plus profit while it's open? So, I want to open an oil position when it reaches 32 while my current position reaches a certain profit. Would that be wise? [link] [comments] |
Can Anyone Help Me Identify These? Posted: 17 May 2020 04:36 PM PDT Hi all! I'm new to this sub so I apologize if this doesn't fit. I recently began cleaning out my late grandfather's belonging and found he had stocks in Chief Ute Uranium, INC and Francis Consolidated Mining and Milling Corp. I can't find much about these companies online. I'm not even sure they still exist, as the stocks were bought in the 1950s. I'm pretty naive when it comes to this stuff so does anyone know where I can find more information about these? If they're worth anything, have merged with another company, what to do next, etc. Any help is appreciated! Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 02:57 PM PDT I bought into airlines but all I'm seeing is they're going down! This is obvious as to the fact no planes are flying and companies are burning cash but do you think it would be wise to cut my losses and wait for them to continue to drop further. Or should I just hold my investments and wait it out the next couple of years? Basically what I'm asking is do you think I can get in lower if I sell now and wait a few weeks for prices to drop further? [link] [comments] |
What’s the best resource to learn about investing in stocks? Posted: 17 May 2020 04:17 AM PDT I have zero experience with stocks but I want to start slowly. I know that there's like Nasdaq, DOW, and S&P 500 but I don't know how to start. What is the best resource? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Are you using SEC filings in your investing? Posted: 17 May 2020 07:30 AM PDT Hi, How much do you incorporate hedge fund activity into your investing? SEC filings were released on Friday and I have seen a bunch of stories today about what hedge funds bought and sold last quarter. Will you buy/ sell based on this information? Reuters gives an overview: https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-investors/u-s-funds-rush-to-tech-companies-and-battered-energy-stocks-in-first-quarter-idUSKBN22R39X TipRanks focuses on some individual funds and their activity: Soros https://www.tipranks.com/news/soros-fund-ramps-up-peloton-stake-exits-jp-morgan/ Ackerman https://www.tipranks.com/news/billionaire-ackman-takes-new-bet-on-blackstone-trims-chipotle-stake/ Buffet https://www.tipranks.com/news/buffetts-berkshire-shaves-off-84-of-its-goldman-sachs-stake/ [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 May 2020 01:25 PM PDT I got a msg on discord that I won .8001 BTC from being part of a discord server. The company is called vaubit and I'm pretty sure it's a scam. Just want to know if you guys thought it was or have heard of it. It's called vauBit, and it's based in Estonia. Strangly, it's website cannot be found on Google. (Red Flag) Maybe cause it's based in Estonia? I don't know. I don't want to get my hopes up. Thanks for reading [link] [comments] |
Taking profit & Cutting Losses Posted: 17 May 2020 07:15 AM PDT Question for you all. Do you struggle more with taking money off the table when a trade works in your favor, or stopping out and taking a loss when it doesn't? For me i have no problem taking profit, but accepting when im wrong and taking the loss is what hurts me the most. Always hold to long when im wrong. [link] [comments] |

Why does a stock value increase with high demand? Posted: 17 May 2020 01:07 PM PDT If their is high demand and low supply of a particular stock then why does it price rise, Is it because the current holders of the share demand a higher price for it? [link] [comments] |
Stock market earning call calendar Posted: 17 May 2020 01:16 AM PDT I'm new to stock market and Is there a website where I can find earning call calendar and how the earning call affected the stock price. Posted: 17 May 2020 11:25 AM PDT I'm turning 18 next month and I've been planning on putting my first $500 into the stock market for a while now. I've done some of my own research but only the basics. I figured it would be best to ask experts for advice. How should I choose which company to buy/sell from? What are the common things you guys look for? Any general advice you could give? Any help would be really appreciated! [link] [comments] |
