    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Apr 28, 2020

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:07 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions.

The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price.

TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term.

Bought $500 worth of NAT at this morning’s high of 8.84. Currently down 12.5% and will update when I make future purchases so you all can do the opposite

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:23 AM PDT

In all seriousness, I think it's likely to rebound in the next few days/weeks, and could see a revisit to the highs back in 2015. I'm thinking of selling 50% if it reaches $10 and then I'll go from there. Any thoughts?

Today I sold my entire portfolio. Good luck everyone!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:55 PM PDT

After years of being a permeant bull, I've decided to liquidate all of my stock holdings to sit on cash. This is a huge move for me, as I've sat on this portfolio for years.

The rational for this is the current rally we've experienced of 28%+ in the S&P500 makes no logical sense. Unemployment is at historically alarming levels, oil markets are crashing, and millions are sick and dying. This could be one of the worst periods in our lifetimes for humanity. Yet markets are booming as if we will never experience another recession again. I was more scared during this rally than I was during the crash.

This rally allowed me to recoup all of my losses, and my portfolio was significantly in the green. I've realized my gains and I'm out. Some of you may think this was a stupid decision to sell, but I can sleep better at night knowing my net worth is sitting safely in cash and I still made a couple bucks in the end.

I wish you all the best in this crazy volatile market! I will absolutely think about buying back in if we retest new lows. But for now, I'll let the market run it's course.

TL;DR: I don't believe in this 28% bull rally and I've sold my positions because I think the worst has yet to come.

    Doing DD

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:12 PM PDT

I learned today, at the low cost of 20.00, to not follow people that post their opinions without researching for myself. I read the hype. I avoided DECN but didn't take notes. When people consistently post 🚀 with stuff like "to the moon" and speak of future "lambos" I should probably not invest. Especially without doing any DD.

Lots of first-timers, my views on that

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:53 PM PDT

Hey All, this is just an opinion, not a bear or bulls one, yet I see this as still a bear market with a bull trap.

I have had the privilege to talk to a handful of CFOs over the last 2 years, I work in raising capital etc. I had a few friends as well, they all agree on one thing. When everyone is entering the market, people who know nothing about it, stay away.

Why you might say? The statistics of the average American joe cant live past two paycheques, now almost every other post is "I just invested my first 700 dollars or xx amount of money", now these people on average would have spent on retail consumer products etc, if we all are on the stock market, who is spending to get earnings?

secondary, joes with mortgages and debt payment, the payments are furloughed, what does that mean? Once they turn the magical switch of opening the states, lets say this opens in May, you are going to be paying your mortgage payments of March, April and May in the month of may, the shocker! You probably were laid off half march, in April and what companies are taking on instant liability by hiring their full staff back without a guarantee of income? so probably May and you are only given a stimulus cheque of 1200 that they also probably put in the stock market.

Bottom line, outside of politics, there is a reason why the senators who sold in Jan aren't buying the "dip". I read reports about this virus from the Washington Post, the medical industry is warning it DOESNT ONLY attack your lungs, but many other organs and while death is lower for younger people (LOWER NOT AVOIDABLE YOURE NOT IMMUNE ) they are more susceptible to stroke and GUESS WHAT, smoking jule and vaping sky rockets your chance, so GG everyone

You might say, why are you betting on a bear market, you will lose your job too and get***** ,

    1. I am not betting on anything right, this is a shit show I am just giving my best guess that might be completely wrong
    2. I work in the Civil Engineering industry and layoffs are massive, construction season starts April and we missed it, thus I won't find a job for a year and went on back to school for my masters since my industry is trashed for a bit,
    3. guess what other industry is trashed? Airlines, luxury, hotels, resorts etc. I saw MGM cancelled there may reservations and the stock went up 12% next thing they will declare massive losses and the possibility of bankruptcy and I am calling for a 200% stock increase lol

Just thoughts to munch on while having lunch.

Stock Watch List April 28, 2020

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:45 AM PDT

Good morning, here's my watch list

Gap Ups: BWEN, C, CAKE, CAR, DCPH, DGX, ERI, FFIV, HOG, LH, NXPI, QTNT, RCL, SIX, TAL, WYNN, YNDX

    Gap Downs: BPMC, UPS

SPY gapping up again after clearing the 50 day moving average. Next resistance around 300 at the 200 daily moving average. I have over 40 stocks on my main gap watch list today, I picked the ones I liked the best for this post but there should be plenty of opportunities today. During earnings season, I tend to not pay as much attention to what the market is doing intraday and mainly focus on trading price action of earnings stocks as these are likely to be the best movers. If you are struggling with your trading or have any questions, shoot me a message. Good luck trading!

    Invested my first $770!

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:04 AM PDT

Hey guys, I've been investing my $750 throughout the whole week and I've been so excited but I don't really have anyone to share this excitement with so here I am!

My 770 is 833 now, I know it's not much but watching it grow has been such a weird and crazy feeling. I've wanted to invest since 2015 but I never ended up doing it from fear and laziness (mostly laziness).

    Anyways, I have:

7 shares of BAC 14 shares of DAL 5 shares of DKNG 75 shares of IVR

Any advice or thoughts on my starting investments welcome!

Trading is lonely (NOT LOSS, don't worry)

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:12 AM PDT

It is so lonely as a trader.

I watch numbers go up and down all day and have nobody to share it with besides Reddit.

I legitimately have discovered that I want to be a full-time trader/investor and I can't really share that with anyone for a number of reasons I won't go into. I will not be quitting my job or anything like that -- even if I made a million dollars tomorrow I'd still be working my job.

I wish I had someone I could talk to about it.

PepsiCo (PEP) reports Q1 EPS of $1.07 beating estimates of $1.02. Shares are up 2% 15 minutes after the open.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:44 AM PDT

PepsiCo (PEP) came out with quarterly earnings of $1.07 per share, beating the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $1.02 per share. This compares to earnings of $0.97 per share a year ago. These figures are adjusted for non-recurring items.

This quarterly report represents an earnings surprise of 4.90%. A quarter ago, it was expected that this food and beverage company would post earnings of $1.43 per share when it actually produced earnings of $1.45, delivering a surprise of 1.40%.

Over the last four quarters, the company has surpassed consensus EPS estimates four times.

PepsiCo, which belongs to the Zacks Beverages - Soft drinks industry, posted revenues of $13.88 billion for the quarter ended March 2020, surpassing the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 4.96%. This compares to year-ago revenues of $12.88 billion. The company has topped consensus revenue estimates four times over the last four quarters.

The sustainability of the stock's immediate price movement based on the recently-released numbers and future earnings expectations will mostly depend on management's commentary on the earnings call.

PepsiCo shares have lost about 1.6% since the beginning of the year versus the S&P 500's decline of -10.9%.

Shorting companies working on the corona virus vaccine

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:53 PM PDT

There are going to be only a few winners and much more losers when/If a vaccine gets developed.

Whats your opinion to instead of gambling on a certain company to hope it is the one with the vaccine and make massive profits instead you short others/all/a certain number and when this all ends you should make a nice profit

Use Short or options(sorry for bad English btw)

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:50 AM PDT

Just stop. Dont touch it. Your not some genius about to make a 5000% trade. It's down for a reason. And most of these historically go down even if oil prices go up. Just leave it alone before you bankrupt yourself

If you have to make an oil play, xle, xom or rds.a

UAL & DAL up %10+ today... Will they experience another dip before/after earnings?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:01 PM PDT

Earning reports for UAL are on May 5th and for DAL July 10-13th and I'm thinking there will be a sell off & stock price dip before or after these since most news I see is reporting that earnings will be down. What do you guys think? I wanted to buy some of each this morning but held off.
