Keep several copies of your introduction email in your draft folder. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:14 AM PDT Have them ready with the "this is who we are and what we do" text and any attachments. That way when you make a cold call on the phone or in-person and you want to follow up with your contact and product information, you can just open it from your draft folder, add the email address, and quickly personalize the subject and body. Everything else will be there for you. This really helps when you are trying to do it from your phone, as the attachments will already be in it, so you can do it from the parking lot before you leave. [link] [comments] |
Have to give a sales presentation to my company...need a topic? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT Hello r/sales, Just as many others have experienced, my business volume (small business industrial machinery) has fallen off a cliff with the pandemic. My direct manager quit abruptly after about 2 years to take a new position just as things reached a fever pitch with government shutdowns. Part of her "development" planning before her departure was for us to take turns doing presentations to the rest of our small team. I am still expected to give a small talk to our staff this upcoming Monday, but unsure of a topic to tackle. Going through the sales development cycle or prospecting seems extremely boring and I'd like to present on something interesting or topical but coming up empty. Any ideas are welcome! Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:08 AM PDT I'm an enterprise SDR. I have a great relationship with my Director of Sales Development, but my AE is quite difficult to work with. Feels like there's constant drama every other week. Small issues that got blown up. Or little nitpickings on their part. My Sales Development Director typically has my back, and agrees that their behavior is tough. But it feels like this never ends, with something different every week. The moneys extremely good, and a good point in my career. So I don't want to move. Curious how much putting up with these things is part of people's sales careers? Are tough to work with coworkers simply to be expected? Or are there ways you've managed to overcome this? [link] [comments] |
New to Sales - Fear cold calling Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:55 AM PDT Hello everyone. I'm new to sales. At my previous job I was a social media manager, now I'm a "Marketing and Sales Manager" for a small business. I've never been in sales, but I think it would be a good experience for me to learn. The only "sales" activity I had taken part in was attending networking events. My new job requires me to cold call and cold email. I have a general idea of what I need to get across, but I'm scared to death and I don't know why. Our business does software and marketing. I roughly know how to sell marketing and a little software. But right now I need to sell a partnership to coworking spaces. I'm struggling to find a connection to use. Do you guys use general scripts? How do you find the right part of the product/service to sell? I'm lost and would appreciate some help... Thank you [link] [comments] |
Anybody get into AWS, Microsoft Azure or GCP for Account Executive? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:52 PM PDT Hey, I'm currently working for one of the biggest VAR's in North America consulting public sector accounts in the US. I'm two years in and anticipate on closing 2 Million USD in revenue this year. Majority of my work is consulting in Microsoft Enterprise agreements, exchange migrations, 0365/M365. I've only been in this role for two years. I have a bachelor of commerce degree from a reputable Canadian university. My goal is to get into either Google, Amazon or Microsoft and work their cloud platform. Coworkers of mine have recently moved to Salesforce, Oracle, IBM. I haven't however seen many people move into the big 3 I mentioned. Anybody currently work for one of these 3? What does it take to get in? I know Amazon has their Associate account executive positions which is a foot in the door I'm assuming? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
How to get your first lead/client? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:02 AM PDT Hello, r/sales Serious_Guidance here, in need of some serious guidance. (Reddit suggested username, but quite apt). I am a recent college graduate who decided that working for someone else isn't what I want. I have started an office furniture company and I'm looking to create some income for myself. This company was started a month ago, and since then I've been reaching out to companies who may be looking into furnishing their office or paying for their remote employees' home offices to be furnished. I have been using RocketReach for the past 3 days to find some emails and I've maybe sent out about 50 emails and gotten 3-4 responses which sounded something like "I'll get in touch with you if I require your services in the future, but we're good for now." I'm not hyper-focused on making money right now, but I want to get a few clients under my belt so I can learn how to serve them best and better my offerings through feedback. The problem is, I can't seem to find that first client, even though I have confirmed from a few sources in my locality that my offering is indeed a need in my area. What is your advice on finding, contacting, and closing your first client? What products should I be looking at other than RocketReach? Should I be attaching a pdf with a more in-depth proposal/product catalog? Any and all Input is appreciated. Additional information: My emails have been medium length, with a short description of what I offer along with why I believe they should work with me. Not super boring, I've added some light-heartedness to it along with a call to action of setting up a time to get on a call. I don't have much of a network in my area to tap into yet, so I can't use existing LinkedIn contacts, etc. My pricing is in line - if not just a tad bit over other people in the space. However, pricing was not mentioned in the emails/outreach so that is not a factor in why I'm not getting any traction. I want to thank you in advance for your time and guidance, I'm in real need of some help. Thanks, Serious_Guidance [link] [comments] |
Viewing Profiles In Sales Navigator Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:44 PM PDT Hi Everyone, My company utilizes Sales Navigator. Right now I have my privacy settings configured to where I view people's profiles anonymously - meaning there is no notification at all that I viewed your profile...Do you see any benefit in having notifications turned on? I suppose contacts would be able to get exposed to both my personal and company's brands. Thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:28 PM PDT With so many sales "leaders" and marketing teams trying to keep busy during Covid-19, it seems like blog posts about "sales tips and tricks" are flooding my typical spots I obtain relevant content. Any Good SaaS Company’s in Central Florida Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:09 PM PDT I am curious if anyone in here from Central Florida , happens to work for a good SaaS or IT related company? Curious about switching from Engineering to the Sales side [link] [comments] |
Trying to cold call without believing in it? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 04:26 PM PDT So my situation is a bit different. I was brought on as a district manager of a medium size company, basically we have a proven product (real estate content creation) and a need to expand it. The two original owners have been very successful in their area, via cold calling agents and offering their services. They brought me on and offered for me to use their foundation to generate sales in my area. I would earn a profit split, plus I am a photographer so I would make a ton off actually booking and photographing properties. Every job in my area would automatically be mine, plus profit split on the sale itself. Not bad. I'm not a salesman by trade, but an entrepreneur. I am skilled in many different areas of business, but sales is not one of them. I know from the owners experience that this is a proven method. (Cold calls, closing sales) the entire company was built on that. But here is the thing. While I stand to earn quite a bit of money on this. I hate, hate, hate getting cold calls. I hate the idea of cold calls. I hate doing them. I think they are absolutely, without a doubt, ineffective. I do not respond to cold calls, ever. I expect other people are like me. I don't like being forced into a conversation I didn't ask for, I hate being trapped on a phone call where the other person is just talking over me and word vomiting every reason under the sun that I should give them my money. With endless excuses about how my rejection of them is not real. I hate the "no means yes" attitude of the people that cold call me. Not only do I hate it, I will take note of the company who called me and make sure that I never give them my business in the future. It leaves an awful taste in my mouth and I think it it's disgusting. But everyday the owners of this company are talking to me like "just jump on the phone and start making good money, just get on calls, get clients. Trust me" So I guess I am just trying to hear from other sales people who have similar opinions as I, and what they have done to overcome it. I want to make sales, I want to profit, obviously. But I just don't believe in it. [link] [comments] |
Find home phone/email jobs to get experience? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 03:38 PM PDT Hello r/sales, I am looking to get experience in sales as I've noticed that reading about how to sell will help, but experience early will help me even more. Does anyone know any portals, websites, or certain places to look for some home phone/email sales jobs that don't require experience beforehand? Is it possible that there are home phone/email jobs that pay only in commission and are these one recommended to get experience? Are there any certain things to know when looking for these types of jobs? I've seen some posts of jobs that are "scams" but i am unsure of what a job listing that is a scam would look like but it would be very appreciated if there was a summary of one please. Thank you very much everyone! If there are other ways as well or other ways to improve on how to sell, what would you all recommend? [link] [comments] |
Small business will likely fail, how do I get back into sales? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:15 AM PDT Long post ahead, TL;DR at the end. Alright so I've been running a small meal prep B2B business for 8 months now, and while the start was pretty tough, we've gained traction and started to grow in the last few months. What we basically do is provide offices with a smart fridge that we regurlaly fill up with fresh meals, so that employees can have a healthy lunch without having to leave the office. As you can imagine, covid19 was a pretty big slap in the face for us. All our talks with customers and leads were halted and our current customers stopped buying. We were on track to hit break even in march/april, but instead now our revenue has dropped to almost zero. It doesn't look good, in fact it's very likely that we'll go out of business. We applied for the german equivalent of the EIDL (since we're based in germany), but we were told that the process takes around 6 weeks... yeah we'll be out of business by then. So needless to say, now would be a good time to look for a job. A bit of background information: I dropped out of college to when I was 21 to work in sales. Found a job at a small SaaS startup and worked there for around 1.5 years. I was the only sales dude working there besides the 3 founders. The product was a software for event marketing, sales cycles were around 6 months. I made a post about this a while back with details: https://www.reddit.com/r/startups/comments/burlf5/is_this_a_reasonable_request_from_my_bosses/ Long story short, they eventually laid me off because I was underperforming and because the startup got in financial trouble. Started my own business with 2 co founders 2 months later. And well, fast forward to now, we're about to fail. So, how do I bring this up in job interviews? I don't want to appear as if I'm looking for excuses, so I don't know how to react if someone asks me why I left the start up or why our business failed. I also don't know what to expect, since on one hand, I'm 23 and don't have a degree, on the other hand, I founded a business and effectively have around 2-2.5 years of experience working in sales, but then again, I don't really have a great track record. What roles can/should I apply for? What salary can I expect? TL;DR Worked for 1.5 years as a sales manager in a SaaS startup, but got laid off because I was underperfoming. Founded my own business shortly after, things went well but then covid happened and we're likely going to fail. How can I get back into sales and what should I expect? [link] [comments] |
Post COVID sales careers to consider? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:33 AM PDT I worked in retail furniture sales prior to the covid crisis. The job was pretty cool. I spent 3 years in a high volume store and then transitioned to traveling sales attending home shows, auto shows, state fairs, and rodeos with the same company. Covid brought all that to an end. I decided to go with online sales with the same company rather than taking unemployment. Big mistake. It's not sales as much as it's order taking and the stress to dollar ratio is unacceptable. Major pay cut 60% and major stress increase 3-4x. What sales industries do you see flourishing post covid? I badly need a change. Thanks for the advice. [link] [comments] |
Laws + best practices for email marketing? + Lead lists Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:02 AM PDT Hey everyone - I'm generally confused about email marketing and white lists/black lists. I usually get leads from getting a list of local businesses and then looking up emails, email formulas, and people on LinkedIn. This takes FOREVER and majorly cuts into my calling time. I'm trying to convince my boss to let me buy a leads list but everyone I'm talking to says that's a bad idea bc purchased lists are low ROI and it might get my company's domain name on black lists. FYI - there's an unsubscribe button at the bottom of my signature.
Thanks so much for any advice/links you might have. [link] [comments] |
Sharing work calendar with family calendar, not making wife and family crazy with work schedule Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:41 PM PDT What are some tips and tricks you guys and gals did to make work life balance easier with family scheduling? My wife has things she wants to accomplish and not to mention all kids are home schooling now. Write daily calendar on the fridge? Fancy technology displaying calendar? Get an unwanted divorce? Make the wife and kids take the conference calls? What seems to be working for y'all? [link] [comments] |
The future in regards to selling offline at Conferences & Tradeshows? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:46 AM PDT I apologize if someone asked this question already as I couldn't find it online. With everything going on (Covid-19) I have seen many conferences "close" or change dates to a later time. While most places will start to open up slowly, do you believe conferences and trade shows will be operational soon or even later? I say this because I think social distancing will be a thing to last for a few years, but we're slowly started to lift rules in various states. Do you think Trade Show Organizers or Conference Organizers will be able to host later this year or next year and shows will be back in business? What are your thoughts? [link] [comments] |
Researching Canadian Businesses Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:29 PM PDT Does anyone have any tips/tricks to researching Canadian based businesses? Namely healthcare facilities. I am based in the US and typically use Reference USA to prospect business by sorting by business type, is there a similar method/database available for Canadian businesses? RUSA has Canadian option but my access does not include Canada unfortunately [link] [comments] |
What are the best ways to begin at sales/business development? In a unique situation... Posted: 27 Apr 2020 06:49 PM PDT A person that I know owns a company and they provide a niche service in the architecture/engineering industry - where I have some professional experience in. They are looking to grow and hire a business development manager/rep to bring in clients. At the time, I don't have the option to take on a full time role, but I am interested in pursuing this as a "side hustle", bringing in clients to them, and learn more about the know how or how to of sales. Where do I begin on something like this? I have some material that they hand out to any BDs that are starting, explaining the role, company, industry, etc. What are the next steps, starting from the ground up in bringing clients in, tracking, and essentially anything that comes with bringing in business as a BDR. New Approach to Training Seminars? Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:09 AM PDT With the world in its current state and traveling reduced. 2 weeks into new Job and employer asking for a transcript Posted: 27 Apr 2020 02:08 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm dealing with an interesting situation here. I'm two weeks into a new job at a great company and I'm a little way through their orientation process. However when they did their background check apparently they couldn't find proof of my enrollment at university. They've requested a transcript as evidence. I'm quite happy to send over my transcript, but my academic performance is hardly stellar. I have several fails on the transcript, owing to a really tough family situation that had me working much more than studying throughout my degree. For illustration I have Absented 4 units and outright failed 4. I'm still in the probation period, so I'm worried as to how this might make me look and whether they can fire me. [link] [comments] |
Best Prospecting Tool To Get Personal Phone Numbers Posted: 28 Apr 2020 10:08 AM PDT Hello all, Was wondering best tool to use in conjunction with Linkedin Sales Navigator + Skrapp to find phone numbers for those leads since Skrapp does not do that. I'm primarily looking for personal phone numbers - I was taking a look at Lusha from browsing past posts, but was wondering what other alternatives people have had success with. Thanks! Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:41 AM PDT I was recently interviewing for a job at a cyber-security company to become either a BDR or an Inside Sales Rep (Account Manager). I wasn't impressed with the recruiter, and judging by her tonality, she wasn't impressed with me either. She then asked me for my salary, and I told her that I was getting $70K/year plus commissions, which should push it to $100K/year. She was quite nosy about my salary history, and when I asked her about the salary at that job that she was recruiting for, she said that you can make $130K in salary and $130K in variable for a total of $260K/year. I wasn't born yesterday, but I know that this is much more than what doctors are making. Also, when I saw it on Glassdoor, the Inside Sales Reps were make $55K/year, which is nowhere close to her $130K/year figure that she gave me. I knew right away that she was not interested in my candidacy, and from experience, it seems that they just want you to feel sad that you won't be making this much money because you won't be at that company, to give you the impression that they're making that level of money, and to trick you that they're a lot more wealthy and powerful than they really are. I immediately blocked her cell phone number, her LinkedIn profile, and her email address. In the future, how would you protect yourself from this? [link] [comments] |
D2D sales advice, dealing with the coronavirus. Posted: 28 Apr 2020 05:01 AM PDT I got laid off from my sales job and am pursuing a job in d2d because it seems like the only opportunity to continue learning and to make a lot of money. Can y'all let me know possible objections or closes to use vivid-19 to my advantage. Just want to be able to be as successful as possible, I'm going to be in Texas. Starting a new job, sales rep for a tree servicing company. Would love advice! Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:37 AM PDT One of my big questions is, how do I get them to book us over other companies? I will be working for a great company, do I talk about what makes them more efficient and thorough than another company? The "this is why you are paying us more" pitch? Also is it good to explain your thought process as you give your recommendation? Like walk them through how you decided what to do? Like "do you see how these branches are dead, you're going to want to do this or else this will happen" sort of thing? I really appreciate you guys. Thank you in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:40 AM PDT Fuck it it's throw away. Working for Verizon and our commission structure is funny. First and foremost I won't bore you with the details of what we get paid on, it would surprise most consumers to know we don't get paid on what phone we sell it's all the same and measured in units. Having said that, our commission is described as no-cap by management. This is not technically the case as once you make 300% more than what they say the average worker will make based on just hitting the quota, they start to take away 50% of every dollar you make in commission. Once you reach 450% or higher they start taking 75% Breaks down like this: Quota Hitting 100% = $1533 Hitting 300% = $4599. (penalty starts taking effect for 300%+ to quota) Hitting 450% is $6898.5 then (50% vzw) = $5748.75 Hitting 500% is $7665. then (75% vzw) = $5940.38 Hitting 600% is $9198. then (75% vzw) = $6515.25 I'm asking if this is normal procedure for "uncapped" commission. We do make hourly as well so that's cool, but it's hard to swallow on paper making 9 grand only to be penalized for over 3k of it. What's more suspect to me and my peers is that our supervisors are pushing us hard to keep pushing this last week of the month and to cram in the OT and not let off the gas. Why ask us to push so hard when we are already going above and beyond everyone else only to get paid on 25% of it. Management gets commission based on what we make so could it be even more so once we hit over 300%?? Should we rebel? Idk [link] [comments] |
