Got a hotel room. Room I got was not described. Can I dispute charges?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:58 AM PDT

    Live in North Alabama

Got a room at a place called the "grand palace inn". The hotel offered "free WiFi" that did not work and the room was awful. Late last night I decided to get a room here to crash.

I got the key and went out to grab some food. When I got back to the hotel the room was really stinky and it wasnt just smoke smell.

The sheets as soon as I got in them I could tell smelled moldy and didn't appear to be washed.

The shower barely provided any warm water and the toilet had such low power that if you decided to shit it wouldn't even flush.

I tried to tough it out with all this but I start felt itchy on my neck and back and appear to have small bites from something. The total time I was at hotel was a hour or less. I told the on duty employee my problems and he said I could turn in my key and call back in the morning for a refund.

I called in the morning. The guy on the phone said next time just don't come in here and get a room. No refunds and immediately hung up on me.

Am I legally allowed to dispute this transaction with the bank since I did not get a working or "safe" room and some of the services like "free WiFi" that were promised did not work.

I had to go and find a better hotel to stay at and that one was perfect. I chose a hotel that offered wifi cause I needed to get some work done but was unable to cause it didn't work.

I'm out 70$ and every penny matters for me. I'm beyond frustrated because this the worse service I ever received at a hotel and I just want my money back cause I couldn't even stay at the place.

Husband’s co-worker (her spouse has symptoms of Coronavirus) walked directly up to him at work today and repeatedly COUGHED on him for over an hour, because she knows he is trying to be careful and she does not feel the virus is dangerous. He told her to stop, but she continued, laughing at him.

The business is currently under investigation with multiple complaints for violating Colorado's stay in place law. They have ignored every safety precaution, such as spacing or staggering shifts.

That was bad enough, but he has been trying to keep his job. This now feels like an actual assault.

    What can we do?

[PA] New landlord took over, charged carpet cleaning after moving out

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:04 AM PDT

I recently moved out of an apartment I was living in for 1.5 years. During that time, a new landlord bought the building. After they purchased it, I signed a document basically acknowledging I would be sending my rent payments to the new landlord and contacting them about any issues, but did not sign any sort of new lease or adendems to my current lease.

When it was time to move out, they sent me a move out checklist which mentioned professional carpet cleaning would need to be done no later than the 2nd last day of occupancy. I re read the actual lease I had signed with the original landlord and it did not mention anything about requiring professional carpet cleaning before move out.

I sent them an email stating that and didn't hear anything back. When I moved out, the carpet was in the same condition as when I moved in, no stains or any sort of damage. I took a number of photos including the carpet. I received my security deposit back with $200 taken out for "professional carpet cleaning" (no receipt or listing of any damages). Am I in the right to assume that I didn't owe them for the carpet cleaning since it wasn't mentioned in my lease?

My tenant is taking advantage of the coronavirus to not move and make us pay for it.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:07 AM PDT

Hi, I'm a landlord and I currently have a very troublesome tenant. Around two years ago, we rented to a couple and in that time, they have caused us a plethora of problems. The first of these problems, is that these tenants rented out our house to people without our permission, which is illegal in Ontario as you aren't allowed to have more than one family in each household. After months of rigorous pushing and legal action, those families were finally gone, but the couple we rented to has a contract until the end of March, which is today. Moreover, in our house they have damaged a lot of our walls and wiring. In our basement they cut some of the wires connecting to different rooms and there are many different holes in the walls when we visited. We are currently pursuing legal action but most likely we'll have to pay out of our pocket for this. Here's the worst part; since our contract with them ends in March, they're supposed to move out... they're now bringing up the fact that the coronavirus is making them unable to move even though there are various moving companies that are available here. We know that they're now trying to squat in our house without paying rent for the next couple of months, as our provincial government just stated that rent does not have to be paid and evictions are suspended until further notice. The tenants have also now cancelled all of the electrical, water, and heating bills and moved it to our account. We have tried and we aren't allowed to move it back to them without consent... so they're staying in our own property and we're paying for it. Both me and my wife was recently laid off as well and we still have to continue paying the mortgage and fees associated with the house, if we delay the mortgage due to the coronavirus we still have to pay compound interest, which will cost us a lot more. What can we do? We're in a really bad spot now and all that's happening is we're getting taken advantage of. Please help

Work wants us to sign agreement that they can come at anytime during the day and “inspect” my home setup.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:46 AM PDT

For context, I am in NY. My company recently gave us USBs to log in and work from home. And now we have to sign an agreement that has a few various standard procedures, except one. It states

"You agree that the company has the right to make periodic visits to your home to audit your compliance with this work from home agreement. The company has the right to inspect your workstation as if you were working on site during scheduled hours. Reasonable efforts would be made to schedule such visits in advance"

I've never had something like this before, I understand this is unprecedented times, but shouldn't there be named company people who would do this? Not just "the company?" Because who would want someone visiting their home during this time?

I am just wondering the legality of your work showing up at home whether you want them to or not.

    Thanks in advance!

Old landlord wants us to pay to upgrade carpet?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:01 AM PDT

We just moved out of our old apartment and we took pictures of our place before we moved in and after we moved out. The landlord is trying to charge us $500 because they say we've damaged the carpet. We've noticed that they are upgrading the unit to hardwood floors. I was under the impression that they can only charge us to restore the floors to their original state. I feel that she is charging us because they're upgrading the apartment and not because we damaged anything. Is it worth going to court or should we just pay the $500 and be done with it?

    I'm in Tennessee.

I’ve been advised to “self isolate” but am being forced to use my own PTO?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:47 AM PDT

Hi, please guide me if I am not in the right subreddit but I am just very confused and don't know what to do. I work for a healthcare office, and my desk partner tested positive. My admin and the providers I work with all met and it was decided that I stay home the rest of this week for a "reduced self-isolation" due to the time I've already been directly exposed. So I am to return on Monday 4/6/2020. However, I was told that I am required to use my own PTO to cover this week and I'm not covered under the family first law that has just been implemented. I was reading through a couple things regarding the act that say I my employer can't require me to use me own time. Is this true? Or did they find a loophole and a way to screw me out of it? My issue is they are medical providers advising my self isolation but when I followed the steps of screening for testing no provider will excuse me for anything less than 2 weeks. I work with high risk patients, most of them with heart problems among other things.

Can the providers I work with qualify under the act as medical providers advising a self isolation, therefore allowing me to use this emergency time? Is it in my best interest to just reach out to my own doctor and ask to be out for 2 weeks based on my direct exposure ? Sorry for the messy post, I am just extremely confused and don't know what to do from here.

Edit: I am in California. My business is less than 500 employees.

My husband’s last paycheck from work bounced. His boss is conveniently ignoring it, keeps saying “he’ll take care of it.” My husband has worked the hours and is owed the money. What can be done?

[MO] Got laid off due to covid and now my boss won’t give my girlfriend and I our last check because “he’s in a jam”

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 10:29 AM PDT

    text conversation.

My check was due to me on Friday and he's been making excuses up until now when he just straight up told me he won't be getting it to me, as seen in the text. I need the money to pay my rent. What're my options here? Is he allowed to not give me my check because he couldn't handle his finances properly?

    Edit:

More conversation: he's just broke. If he ends up filing bankruptcy (he's using an LLC) am I just out a paycheck? Should I take what I can get from him, the $1,000 and just call it good? I'm worried if I tell him I'm filing a claim he just won't give me the 1,000, file bankruptcy, and be done with it.

Me and my husband are getting a divorce. Can he extend his greencard status before the divorce finalized?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 07:22 AM PDT

My husband is physically abusive. We're in the process of getting a divorce, and I have pressed charges against him for domestic violence. As you know, the whole country is shutdown now, and things aren't going as fast as I'd like them to go. His greencard expires March 2021, and I was wondering if there is any possibility that he can extend his stay without my permission. I want him deported. No court date has been set yet. I have sent all the paperwork to ICE and USCIS (divorce papers, case #, police report)

    Michigan, USA.

Edit: my brother is his financial sponsor, and we have been married for under 2 years. I hired a divorce attorney right when we separated a little over a month ago, and he has been served with divorce papers, just not criminal papers yet.

My mother (deaf) is being asked to do alternative work due to covid. Possible ADA?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 09:09 AM PDT

My mom (deaf) works on a campus as a switchboard operator and making copies for staff, etc. Now that the school has shut down due to covid, her office has moved to something to do with eLearning. Until now, she has been told that she only needs to attend eLearning via Zoom to continue receiving pay, but her office manger just texted telling her she needs to do janitorial work cleaning and disinfecting the building, and also picking weeds on campus during her normal working hours, in order to continue receiving pay, in addition to some of the eLearning options. The other switchboard operators can work from home, but the video phone she uses is on campus.

It seems like a totally unreasonable accommodation to have her disinfecting and picking weeds for 5 1/2 hours a day in place of the eLearning the rest of her office is getting. She's not a janitor or groundskeeper, so these aren't her normal duties. Am I wrong in thinking this is unjust? Her supervisor says other employees are being asked to do the same, but no one in her department is doing it.

It also doesn't seem like essential work, with the school already having janitorial and groundskeeping staff. It seems like it's just work for the sake of "getting something" for their money.

    What should she do? [Indiana]

Wife's employer threatening termination if she doesn't temporarily move in to facility due to Covid. (Texas)

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 08:58 AM PDT

    Texas.

I have limited information at the moment, but this is what I know so far. My wife works at an upper class retirement community. Due to the Covid outbreak, the corporate office is saying that employees will likely have to temporarily live on premises for 8-10 weeks. If any employee refuses, they will be terminated and unemployment benefits will be denied. While I'm pretty sure that she would still recieve unemployment benefits based on the Covid stimulus package, I'm unsure about forcing employees to move in.

I appreciate any advice pertaining to the move-in aspect of the situation.

How to not get sued if someone drowns in my lake behind my house.

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:08 AM PDT

In North Carolina USA. No HOA. I live on a 5.5 acre lake/pond. 5 of my neighbor's backyards end at the lake. On the other side of the lake is a separate housing community called Manor Crossing that is not part of the property of the lake, I know because I checked the tax record for the lake and parcel of land it includes.

Recently due to COVID-19 people from Manor Crossing have been using the lake, fine no big deal, I want people to be active but they have started to cut down trees and bushes that I like up as it acts as a privacy fence. There is no man made fence or no trespassing signs. When I called the police they said only the owner of the lake can lodge a complaint because its not my property. The owner lives on the other side of town and could care less about the lake. But I found out through neighborhood gossip that he has been trying to off load the lake for free on people in my neighborhood, I believe due to the liability he could possibly face if someone gets injured or drowns.

I am thinking of taking ownership of the lake but before I approach him I want to know the best way to avoid getting sued if someone drowns in the lake. I am currently looking into a $5million umbrella policy with my home owners insurance but is there another way? Could I setup a LLC? Any advice will be helpful.

Neighbors run a daycare out of their home and leave children to create chaos

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:07 AM PDT

[NEW YORK]So, first time posting here and I usually don't get so rattled I want to involve the police but these neighbors 2 houses down are running a daycare out of their home. Cars come and drop off kids all day. 9 kids at a time seen in the front yard. All day they scream and yell and the 2 gigantic Rottweilers barking through the fence at them. This is an unlicensed daycare during the middle of a pandemic. Who can I reach out to about this? The police have been called but they leave after 2 minutes. Is there some other agency that handles these sorts of situations?

[IL] Wife is domestically violent and abusive. I am a male victim desperate for free, SAFE legal advice because of COVID.

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 11:22 PM PDT

NOT A LANDLORD/TENANT QUESTION. LANDLORD HAS TERMINATED THE LEASE AND THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. THIS IS AN ABUSE VICTIM ASKING FOR LEGAL HELP DURING A GLOBAL PANDEMIC AND STATEWIDE STAY AT HOME ORDER.

Interested lawyers and lawyerly types, dare to read on. Please maybe consider this a free consultation since you may be stuck at home too. I have a lot to say here and a dropbox folder I could share with LEGAL recordings from my own residence I could share, if we could develop trust enough somehow.

I live in IL, north of Chicago outside of Cook county. I am only just figuring this out myself, after spending nearly 2 years desperately trying to help the love of my life, while she destroyed my reputation silently in the background, so no one would believe me when I finally called for help loud enough for anyone to hear.

    Observations that support this notion:

    • Has taken over our bank accounts so we now only have one usable debit card with HER name on it, so I can't access money from my job without her control. I had to place a hold on incoming funds from work so it won't go into an account and she could just LEAVE me stranded at any second.
    • When she saw I did that she started screaming "GET OUT NOW" and that I'm "NOT ON THE LEASE" for the umpteenth time, even though HER old lease is expired, we're being evicted, and the lease never mattered to my residency in this apartment in the first place, OR the process of evicting me. She has to provoke me enough to run away on my own or make me look abusive right back to get me out like that. Not falling for that BS.
    • Has full control of our only vehicle. It's property she got in a divorce settlement, it's in her name and fully paid off, it's hers no matter what. The other one got repoed because I trusted her too much.
    • Has cut me off from help from friends, family, and neighbors, by gently and lovingly coercing me to drink or abuse drugs she bought from her friends, then provoking fights when my guard is down.
    • I proved that theory by resisting the temptation to drink beer she bought me at 6am when I was up working at the computer, and she thought I was all anxious craving a beer. I opened a beer, let the foam spill on my hands, let it touch my mouth, then stuck it behind a plant. She's too cocky and ADHD to even notice that when I cracked the SECOND tall boy of Steel Reserve I don't drink anymore, and did the same thing. That was HARD, but it let her guard down and helped me make a LEGAL recording that pretty much destroyed her credibility with the local PD. Even though I smelled like beer they could tell I was perfectly fine but maaaaaybe not completely in here eyes. That made me STRONGER and there will be no more of that shit in this house.
    • Loses or hides things and pretends I stole them to wake me up if I'm sleeping away from her or get me in trouble with a bystander.
    • I proved that to myself by risking increasingly agitated cop patting his sidearm while she wouldn't start her own car for half an hour, yelling that I stole them from her, and the fobs were both in the car. I kept kindly telling the nice man with a gun that, while he yelled at me over and over to GIVE HER THE KEYS. Oh this was on my birthday by the way, when I told her I wanted no gifts, just to be of service to her and fix the car so she could come and go as she pleases. The car magically started as soon as I was out of sight because he gave up. He looked pretty embarrassed and pissed at her from what I could see out of my living room window.
    • She punches the drywall throws things and yells and tells everyone I did it when I was drunk.
    • Charges me until I stumble over things and says I'm "not man enough" to hit her, then tells everyone I actually DO hit her by pointing at random bruises she gets because she's anemic.

The list goes on...but I have a better understanding of the law now and I've been legally recording everything I'm legally allowed to by just announcing that Im recording and hitting the record button every time she shares a room with me. I several videos up on dropbox I will only share remotely with any lawyer who wants to do a free remote consultation right now. I have money eventually but she's fully in control of it, and Illinois is under a stay at home order. Lots of lawyers on reddit right now I bet, huh?

    The complications are:

I have to record on my laptop with only a front facing camera. She controls the only working phone and I can only touch it while she's sleeping.

She somehow "lost" our only phone's PREPAID SIM card when I had only innocently handed it back to her in working condition, and is "falsley" accusing me of stealing it. Since I would NEVER steal something of HERS, I obviously have no idea where it is, so I obviously cannot put it in HER phone, since I don't have it, right? But I can't even get a used phone here because she's destroyed credibility with any friend and family who would, and I can only get anything by getting it dropped of in person, or knowing EXACTLY when it's arriving so I can NOT look so eager to get it, and gently coax her into giving me the mail. I'm pretty sure she actually threw out an ID I had coming in the mail so I'd have to depend on her more. Now COVID and I'm royall fucked.

She is threatening to go get an emergency an order of protection. Earlier she tried but she said she was going to the local PD and I told her she needed to go to county. She argued and I knew she'd be right back because I already discussed the possibility of her doing that with them earlier, and they directed her to county like I told her in the first place, and I knew she'd just come back feeling stupid but not admit it.

She has the only car to go do that if she wanted. I'm not committing crimes so I'd just have to pack a backpack and leave on foot with no ID, not a penny to my name, no phone, family with immune disorders and infants, nowhere but a shelter to go, possibly contaminating everyone in my wake. If an emergency order of protection or me voluntarily leaving is the ONLY solution here, sorry but I have the evidence and it's going to be HER, I just can't get to there first cause I can't go anywhere without her help. I don't even want to HAVE to show them what she's doing unless it gets WORSE and I really do have to run out the door. She's bipolar with psychotic episodes and her lawyer even convinced everyone her WORSE one was a one-off deal even though she's been committed for state eval probably 6 times or more, clinically diagnosed in a psychosis, relying on nice guys like me with some rough edges, to help her hide it.

Please help with just some friendly feedback if that's all you can do. I have all the numbers for county authorities and DV shelters but NO it's a pandemic out there and I'd rather not unless I have to report HER, and I need further guidance on how much longer I should play along and placate her until I actually sneak off and do it.

[NC] Leaky pipe in my unit. Landlord will not fix it due to the virus but also demands that I quit using the bathroom for an unspecified time.

2 bed 2.5 bath unit. Bathroom affected is the full bath attached to my room. Landlord refuses to come fix (somewhat understandably given the circumstances) but also wants me to not use my bathroom, insisting I share with my roommates attached bath for an unspecified time. In addition, he refuses to lower my rental payment while I cannot use the bathroom. Any answers?

My Ex-girlfriend demands child support payment for a child i thought was never born

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:07 PM PDT

Hello legaladvice, long-time avid reddit reader here, never ran into the need of posting anything but finally made this account for this issue.

About me: (m, 37, GERMANY/SH) employed, soon to be married, life has been good until a week prior.

Last week, i've gotten a message from my very first (ex-)girlfriend ever, telling me i have a 12-year old son and demanding to meet up, so we could discuss the payment for child support. The problem in here is, i never had kids, or at least i'm not aware of any children i've ever had.

A little bit of backstory here, my (ex-)girlfriend then and me became a couple when we were 21. Four years later, we both were quite confident about marrying each other and building a future ourselves. She was 4-months pregnant by the time. During pregnancy she had a change of heart and got feelings for a friend of hers, canceled our engagement and left me for him. I was devastated but i still wanted to take care of the child, promised myself i would not let any personal feelings interfere with being a good father. I told her, that i wanted to see our child, pay child support and do whatever it takes to support her. But i also assured her, that i would respect her privacy, accepting that i won't take a major role in the growing up of our child.

All that went in vain, when a few weeks later she told me, she had a miscarriage. Not only did it break me a second time, i just couldn't believe it, so i really wanted to see her in person, talk to her and get a chance to process what happened. We never met in person, but she did tell me over phone, which hospital she attended, how the curretage (surgical intervention after miscarriage) went and how long she stayed there. After that, our contact faded. When she told me she was tired of talking about it, i let her go, not bothering her any more. We haven't had any contact further on. Until last week.

So apparantly i guess, she intentionally made up her miscarriage (and put real effort in making me believe that) and kept our child in secret from me for 12 years.

I tried reaching out to her family because of this (parents, siblings), but none of them answered me. I don't have any evidence from 13 years ago of her telling me about the miscarriage and only my parents know about this from my tellings. It is not my goal to escape child support, i will pay, even if it means paying the last 12 years backwards (which is a huge financial burden for me). But i do want to know, if there is any legal consquence for her hiding our son from me, or if it does affect child support payments.

I have never been to court before so i am quite frightened about all of this. I told her for now, that i'll be consulting a lawyer before meeting her, i'm waiting right now for her to confirm that i'll get the time (or press charges?). What is the wisest course of action right now?

EDIT: First, i'm sorry i did not include the place where i am (GERMANY/SH, Schleswig-Holstein). I know law varies by state/country, i wanted to keep as much anonymity as possible but that was stupid, so my fault. Second, thanks everyone for responding, i've gone through every comment here and gotten a clearer view of things. As for now, i'll be definitly hiring a lawyer before continuing any communication with her and then my next step is to verify if this child is really mine. If thats true, i really hope i can settle this with her outside of court (with the help of a family lawyer), as far as i know, court costs can go pretty high.

Lost My Job To COVD19, Forced To Move Out, Being Told I Have To Pay For My Last Month

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:25 AM PDT

First and foremost, I live in an illegal apartment in New York City. I'm a broke kid who works a dead end job at a mall and I work myself to the bone since I don't have the money or time to go to school. This is literally the only way I can afford to get myself off the streets. I live paycheck to paycheck, I don't have the ability to save moeny because every month I basically only have enough for my bills, food for myself (occasionally my girlfriend has to bring me food) and maybe one nice thing for myself. Really just saying this so all the comments aren't shaming me for going into an illegal apartment in the first place, it was my only option. This all being said I rent out one room in a larger house, my whole life is in here for $700. When I moved in I paid $1400, which I was told would be for the first and last. This isn't my first apartment but it's really the first one I was able to secure without any help. Now, obviously, things have changed.

With Coronavirus sweeping the country I was let go from my job, but they kept me on for so long with no shifts that I haven't been able to get unemployment yet. I've been squandering around with no money for weeks now. My rent is due on the first, and I asked my landlady if she would allow me a few days to get everything together. I told her I was let go from my job, I have no way of paying her I have to borrow money from family which I'm really grateful for but it's not sustainable and I have to move out. I told her I'd pay for this month, on friday the 3rd, in full, and that May would be my last month.

Here's where she got fucky on me. She agreed to allow me a few days to get the rent in order, after badgering me consistently asking me to pay the full $700 today even though I told her I literally do not have the money. English isn't her first language, I'm not sure what country she's from but she's from south east asia, either china or one of the nearby countries. I wouldn't say she "uses it to her advantage" but trying to write down the way she talks is a little difficult so apologies. She then said I'd better have the rent on May 1st. I told her again, I was fired from my job, I have no way of paying her anymore, I have to move out, and that May will be my last month here. I told her I wanted to give her two months advance so that she could hopefully find someone by then.

Then she said essentially "okay but you'll still have to pay rent on May 1st then" which blew me away. I reminded her that when I moved in I paid for first and last, so the last should go towards May. She said that last month will work for may at the end of may and I will pay at the beginning of may and then at the end of may she will pay me back the $700. Though when she said $700 it kind of sounded like $100 and I'm gonna be pretty pissed if that's what she actually meant.

I told her to give me some time to work out some details and went to go into my room, where she badgered me with the repeating question of whether I was going to pay May 1st or not and I had to repeat to her maybe 5 or 6 times to give me some time to work out the details. I know for a fact that's not how first and last works, and for gods sake why do I even have to pay rent right now in the middle of a pandemic. I'm fucking terrified, everythings locked down at least until April 30th so I'll have no way of moving all my shit out or finding a way to store it all until I can find a new place. I can't really get a new job for obvious reasons (and trust me I've been trying anyways). I just don't know what to do, I'm at wits end here and wanted to know if I have any legal options at all. I doubt I do but I figured I have no other options really. What can I do?

TL;DR I live in an illegal apartment and my landlady is telling me I have to pay for my last month, but I already paid for first and last when I move in, what do I do?

What constitutes fair use of music?

That may not even be the term I'm looking for, but in any event. I recently helped my mother's 75 year old boyfriend sell his 1960s jukebox and he said when he pulled the rest of his 45s out of storage I could have them. Cool.

I didn't realize there were like 20,000 of them, yet here I sit. I'm bored at home as I'm sure many are - I was curious about the legal ramifications of live-streaming testing them? Not for profit, but I get the feeling that's probably still not permissible.

I'm in Florida if it matters.

Landlord sent me to collections w/o an outstanding balance

    Posted: 31 Mar 2020 04:53 PM PDT

UPDATE: I'm like 90% sure this was a scam. I followed up with the landlord this morning, so I know what collection company they actually use now.

Rent is due tomorrow. I live in Ohio. My landlord (a company) called me this afternoon checking to see "how we were doing." What I told the lady was the truth, "We're fine this month, although if this isolation continues we might be in trouble."

But then, several hours later I received a call from a collections agency saying that my landlord sent me to them. I double-checked after the call, and I have no outstanding debt, and we're still on schedule to pay tomorrow. They said my address and the name of the complex, so I'm pretty sure it's legit. He hung up after I said I was disputing that claim. If it is legit, what's going on here?? Is my landlord just pre-sending their tenants to collections? I'm very curious if this has happened to anyone else. I'm inclined to join in on the rent strike movement if my landlord is gonna act this sketchy.
