Every time I make a trade the price drops ~5-10%, happen to anyone else?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:54 AM PDT

I swear I have the magic touch when it comes to trading

I wait for prices to drop to a low point, I buy-in, and then suddenly BAM! The whole freaking market drops to unbelievable low points, lower than 52-week lowes, and I'm just sitting here like "wtf did I just do?"

    Is it just me?

Stock Watch List April 1, 2020

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 06:01 AM PDT

Good Morning, here's my watch list

Gap Ups: CEMI, IFRX, INSG, QUMU

Gap Downs: AMD, BA, BYND, CAR, HSBC, LYFT, MU, ROKU, SQ, TWTR, VRNT, WYNN

Sorry for the late list, I have been busy this morning. Market is gapping down, No stocks with individual catalyst. I mentioned yesterday the weekly 200 MA over head could act as resistance. Now well see if the market continues lower. Next support level, last low on SPY at 218. level. Things might be a bit choppy today so be patient and wait for solid patterns before entering trades. Good luck

Gundlach: US stocks have not bottomed and this crash most closely resembles 1929

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:19 PM PDT

    https://www.advisorperspectives.com/articles/2020/04/01/gundlach-u-s-stocks-have-not-bottomed

Some comprehensive thoughts from Jeff Gundlach on stocks, bonds, gold, USD and the economy.

    Some highlights:

    • He compared U.S. equities to Japan in 1989, Europe in 1999 and the emerging markets in 2006. Like those markets, "the U.S. will be a poor performer and it will not get back to its high on a real basis," Gundlach said.
    • The economy faces deflation. The drop in oil and copper prices has "devastated U.S. industries," he said. Based on historical patterns of commodity prices, Gundlach said, there is no hope to think the economy will rebound in Q3.
    • "When we go through this stay-at-home period," Gundlach said, "we start to change our habits. The lessons we learned about commuting, working from home and not polluting the air sink in, and we may never go back to where we were, particularly the longer it drags on."
    • Our economy will be less globalized, he said, because manufacturing will come back to the U.S. The biggest winner will be the American economy, as it moves from outsourcing to self-sufficiency. Inventories will move away from "just in time" levels, he predicted.
    • There is a "real shortage" of physical gold, he warned. Too many speculative securities are not backed by the physical commodity. If gold skyrockets in price, he said, there won't be enough metal and "something bad will happen. There could be a huge failure in the gold market."
    • Negative interest rates have decimated banking stocks when they have been tried, like in Japan and Europe. Many analysts are saying they "love" the banks, according to Gundlach. But loan and credit card payments will suffer, given the forecasted unemployment, so he does not ascribe to that view.

If you have stocks in a company and they go bankrupt or are bought out by another company what happens to your shares in the company?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:05 PM PDT

For instance, if you have stocks in an Canadian oil company such as Suncor or CNR what would happen if they were bought by another company because they aren't doing well?

    Forecast for today 04/01

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 05:19 AM PDT

Wednesday looks like it will extend yesterday's losses. All major markets are in the red today, after very grim forecasts from President Trump last night, saying 100000 deaths are expected if all moderation works. If not they project over 200000 deaths. The decline started in Asia with Japan and South Korea declining 4% while China had moderate losses less than 1%. Europe is also in the red, with Italy down 2%, British FTSE and German DAX down 3.5% and French CAC down 4%. The US futures started their decline as the President made his remarks and it has been a slow and steady decline. That normally indicates broad base selling with now spikes or volatility. At this time 8AM ET time, the NASDAQ futures are down 2.7%, while the S&P and Dow down 3.4%. Economic data is looking mixed as China reported 50.1 Manufacturing PMI well above expectations, while Europe's PMI numbers are all in the mid-40s range. China also beat their Service PMI expectations yesterday, but there was a lot of doubt whether these data points are accurate. After today's stunning PMI number I have to doubt too if China is really telling the truth in their economic data. The US dollar had a great night as well, raising 1% overnight, adding to the gains from yesterday of over 0.5%. The ISM is reporting US PMI data at 10AM today and this will give a better picture of how big the impact is on the economy. The outbreak is still spreading with the US reporting an increase in new cases and deaths, with New York reporting a spike yesterday after 2 days of stabilization. World total cases also got a spike yesterday.

For today's trade I recommended a Buy on Oil, it is trading slightly over 20$ a barrel and for 3 days now there is big support at this level. One announcement of production cuts, or some kind of deal can propel the price 3-4$ which means a 15-20% gain on your investment. Stocks today look mixed, I will be waiting for bulls to come in mid-day, around 11AM and I will try to get in and out for a gain of 0.5-1% at this time. If you decide to do these trades, have smaller stop losses and take profits. Do not be exposed for longer periods of time, since the selling is consistent. Good luck!

Will LVMH will walk away from the Tiffany acquisition?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:40 AM PDT

It seems crazy for LVMH to pay 135 USD per share (November 2019 offer with generous premium) for Tiffany given the current situation. Do you think the deal will go through? I'm considering buying more puts on Tiffany than the few I already have.

    Question about insider trading

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:27 AM PDT

How do we know when people with inside information sell their stocks, either congressional or private sector? Like recently, some senators dumped stock because of the virus information they had. Was there a way I could have found out they dumped a ton of stock and maybe foresee what was coming? If we can't tell they sold all that stock, how do they get caught?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I am very new to the stock market.

    Thoughts on REML?

I bought in yesterday at 2.9... I think there is farther to fall but is more likely to go up in the next one to six months than disappear altogether.

Should I buy Air Canada stock now or still wait?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:37 PM PDT

Airline industry is crashing. Air Canada is still not able to stand despite the backing by the stimulus package. It is currently at $14ish. Will it drop further down? Some speculators are saying that the price might drop down to single digit in a few days.

Anyone else jumping from sports betting to stocks??

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 11:38 AM PDT

I'm new to stocks, but I feel like it's similar to sports betting. As long as you do your research on teams/companies, you have an opportunity to profit. I'm a bit of a nerd when it comes to fantasy sports and stats and was able to win $1,500 this year betting exclusively on odds boosts and live game bets.

With the stocks crashing, I feel like it's a good opportunity to buy low and toss my $1,500 (and maybe some more) into some stocks. I don't know much about stocks, but I want to invest in strong companies that are likely to bounce back even if it takes a year or two. Right now I'm leaning towards buying stock in Delta, Visa, Qualcomm, and some ETFs for Vanguard. Is there a sector that I should invest in like tech for my ETFs? Appreciate it and good luck everyone.

    Volume is so low today

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 12:32 PM PDT

Looks like volume will be much lower than the last few days. Any idea what's up?

    chart

I looked all the way back to 1999 and couldn't find a day like this during a bear market and subsequent bounce (other than christmas eve and etc.)

I've heard low volume can be a contrarian indicator at a top or bottom but the current price can't be a top since yesterday was higher and if it's a bottom it's only a 2-3 day bottom which seems unlikely.

NLY and AGNC - good buying opportunity?

    Posted: 01 Apr 2020 02:32 PM PDT

With the recent massive selloff in mreit sector NLY and AGNC are now both historic lows. Noteworthy though is that both are heavily invested in agency MBS, which are backed by the government and have no credit risk (over 90% of their portfolios).

This basically means the government will make all payments in the event of a default, and will also buy back these securities at full face value.

I don't want to say it's impossible for these 2 to go tits up...but these two stocks literally can't go tits up. The risk of default is being priced into these two stocks when there's almost zero default risk, basically.

What's more, due to the lowered cost of borrowing the business model for both NLY and AGNC have the potential to become even more profitable. This means they are likely to come out of the current recession with increased dividend payouts due to more favorable yields. Interest rates are likely to stay low for a long time which is favorable to the agency business model in general.

At latest reported book values (which indicates fair market price), both stocks have at least a 100% upside over the next 1-2 years. Assuming they come out of this ok, they will likely net higher profits and significantly increase book value, for as much as 150% upside. This is not even counting the dividend, just the stock price.

If you can snag these shares in a Roth IRA, you can further increase your profit with tax-free dividend payouts of 20-25% on current share price (though these dividends may be lowered in the short term).

Thoughts? Am I wrong? Should I be running as far away from these stocks as possible?
