Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:27 PM PST I'm an American living in Australia and noticed that income protection is pretty normalized and accessible here. Just curious, do we have income protection in the states? If so, how does one go about obtaining it as I'd like to share this with others. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Travel Insurance / Coronavirus? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 11:49 PM PST Hi. Not sure if this is the right place to ask but I am planning to travel to Europe in May. France is the primary country I had planned to visit, and I paid for my flights in June of last year (thereby excluding me from any Cancel For Any Reason insurance coverage). However, last week, I decided to book hotels/flights/trains to Florence as a part of this trip. This was before news broke of the scale of the outbreak in Italy. My question is, would it be possible to get insurance for this for only this part of the trip? Its still within the 14-21 day limit for most CFAR plans. [link] [comments] |
Why would I want my collision and comprehensive coverage to be more than the value of my vehicle? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 09:32 PM PST I just don't see why you'd want it to be more than the value of your vehicle [link] [comments] |
Allianz — any anecdotal experiences? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 09:21 PM PST Can anyone attest to the benefit of putting money into Allianz? My financial advisor is suggesting it, but I can't find much information on it. My goal is saving for retirement. I'm under 30 and a teacher. [link] [comments] |
How long after do you have to file a claim? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:29 AM PST Someone hit & ran my car almost 9 months ago. I filed a police report and everything, can I still file a claim? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:05 PM PST So, yesterday I was clipped buy a driver who ran a red light while I was making a left hand turn in CA. My rear bumper is pretty damaged. I was told that if you file a claim with your insurance company even if your not at fault it can/will affect you rates? Is this true? I'm not sure if I should just contact his insurance company myself or what would be the best way to resolve this. [link] [comments] |
Master Policy Insurance Payment paid to HOA - What happens to excess funds? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:54 PM PST Hey fellow premium payers! Having a hard time getting a solid answer, hoping someone here has some insight. I had some water damage to my condo in a 4 unit association. My personal policy paid the deductible and kicked up the claim to the master policy maintained by the HOA. Now that finally the claim has been paid, the money is sitting with the HOA and they are willing to write checks to contractors on my behalf. My question is, what happens if I go under budget, more specifically what happens to the leftover funds? Do they just go into the reserve fund or back toward the payment of the master annual policy? I can't expect it'll go to the homeowner so my goal is to use as much of it as possible. The HOA has been near impossible to get a hold of, and when I do the answer about excess funds is vague. Trying to project myself, and my fellow unit owners and would love to know what to look out for! Some background on the HOA -Some guy no one has met is the -Budget documentation online is from 2018 -Contractors that come by who are responsible for maintenance, cleaning don't really do much other than put the garbage out on Mondays and shovel the bare minimal sidewalk. I guess this is a two-part question, but how would one try to manage the association themselves? I have 2/4 other unit owners interested, the other two units are under are not owner-occupied. My 19 year old daughter goes to school out of state and took up residency - Insurance question! Posted: 01 Mar 2020 03:56 PM PST My 19 year old daughter goes to school out of state (NJ) and took up residency in Maine in order to vote early. This seems to be legal in Maine. She is also getting a Maine license as it is a state requirement since she took up residency. Plus she thinks it's cool, and she's a cool kid. 2 questions: Car insurance: She will soon have a Maine license. Will that affect my NJ car insurance policy? She is on my policy, does not have a car, does not have a car at school with her. But when she is home for the 3 months or so will I need to speak with the insurance company about her residency change? Health Insurance: Is she still a dependent if she takes up residency out of state? I have a great police from my company and it does not really cost anything for me to have her on it, and I would like to keep it available to her until she has to get off of it at 26. Or when she gets her own policy - whatever comes first. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 11:22 AM PST So I have a home down In FL and I am worried I may not have the correct insurance coverage on it. When I Bought the property it was my families primary dwelling and my brother in law lived there as well and paid a % of the mortgage. I have since moved to another state where I reside the majority of the time but not always. Am I supposed to have a landlord policy under this circumstance or do I get some sort of secondary dwelling with full time inhabitants type deal? I saw something on an article about different %s surcharge based on % of occupancy with one of the options being "With a Full-time Caretaker (lives in the home)" would this apply to this scenario? Just want to be better informed when I talk to the insurance people tomorrow. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 02:41 PM PST When insurance does an estimated replacement cost calculation and they give you an amount for dwelling coverage how much of that money will you actually get? Also, what if they have the replacement cost wrong do you only get back what is described in that ERC? How much do you get to rebuild if your house burns down and do you only get what is specifically described in that ERC? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:43 PM PST I am a landlord that always encourages (and will be starting to require) my tenants to obtain renter's insurance. Recently we had an issue with CO leaking into one of the properties that has two units. The dwelling was uninhabitable for four days due to this issue and I had to cover hotel costs for one of the tenants for four nights. If the tenant had renter's insurance, would this have covered her hotel stay and food? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:45 AM PST I just got a job offer and take a look at the company policy below: Medical insurance subsidized at 70% of the plan you choose (we have 2 plans that you will discover when you take office) I have never worked a job having as policy employees medical insurance. Also the salary is just a small amount above minimum wage and I live in Mauritius where public Healthcare is free and I am 21 years old. My salary will hardly be sufficient for my expenses, can I tell the company that I don't want the medical insurance at the moment or is it compulsory ? Also if I can deflect it what excuse can I give for not wanting the insurance apart from the salary is too low? [link] [comments] |

Have A Strange Adjuster Question/Problem, Need Advice or Opinions Please Posted: 01 Mar 2020 11:12 AM PST I'll try to make the story as brief as possible while retaining the pertinent information A couple of weeks ago, I was driving home from work and I veered off the road, hit the curb, and damaged my car. From what I could see at the time, I blew the front passenger tire, damaged that wheel, and slightly damaged the rear passenger wheel. The rear passenger tire was losing air at about 2 psi a day. So a slow leak. I put on the spare and drove home. Then replaced the wheel and tire with new ones and the rear, since wasn't too bad, would have to wait a week. After driving for a couple days, it became clear that there was something seriously wrong with the car. It was very unstable and felt dangerous. It chewed up the new tire in a week (bald) so I switched it with the tire from the other side. I thought "oh great, this could be over a thousand dollars to fix, it will have to wait I guess, until I get my tax refund." Eventually, I had the notion to call my insurance. I have full coverage. After I paid the car off, I just kept it that way because liability only was only $30 less a month. So, why not. They scheduled to have my car towed, encouraged me to not drive an unsafe car, gave me a (really nice) rental. So far, I have only left a $50 deposit at the rental place and I have to pay the taxes and that's it, about $4 a day or whatever. Here's where it gets fun. Let me preface by saying that I have horribly bad luck. It's uncanny. Have you ever seen that movie with Martin Short and Danny Glover? It's really that bad. So, a day after they towed my car to the mechanic, a really nice guy calls and tells me he's the adjuster. So, he starts off by saying that they can't fix the bumper. I think "bumper? What's wrong with the bumper?" Out of my mouth comes "I don't care about the bumper. I just want my car safe to drive. It's 10 years old anyway." So, he says "oh great! I'll let these guys know and I'll call you back." He calls back and tells me that the insurance will pay for the repairs and I will pay the deductible. That's what I was expecting. After he hims and haws for a moment, he says,"how about this; since we aren't fixing the bumper, I'll cover the deductible, we'll put on 4 new tires and, on top of the repairs, we'll pay 90% of the tires. Just pay the remaining 10% of the tires, sales tax, and that's it." So, of course we got a deal. That's a great deal for me. Then he calls back again and tells me that the tires seem to be ok. I didn't tell him that the bald tire is a week old. So the new deal is that I pay nothing. No new tires, no bumper, just the mechanical repairs and I pay nothing. He says that he is leaving a check there for me for $500. I pay the $500, pick up my car and the check, and that's it. Ok. Sounds good. It will be done in a couple days. Somehow, on the way home, my phone got ruined. Keep that in mind. I get out the spare phone and start doing my thing on my computer. My phone rings and it is the mechanic shop receptionist. She tells me that they have completed the estimate and the estimated price is $637 and would like my permission to work on the car. I ask how much I have to pay when I pick my car up. She says...$637 in a tone that suggests that I am an idiot. I ask about the insurance and she says that he left a check for me and basically 'duuhhh'. So, I figure, oh well, I have to pay for it. If it sounds too good to be true.... I check my email and there is an email from the insurance company saying that the estimate is $637 and that's basically it. Oh well, story of my life. But then, I notice pictures in the email that were used in the assessment. The pictures were of a car that wasn't mine. It was white but that was the only thing similar. It was a Nissan and I have a Toyota. Then I remembered the bumper that I don'[t remember being damaged. I thought, did this guy call the wrong person? Am I paying for someone else's repairs? So, I wanted to call him but my phone was destroyed. So I try to find his number on my claim but there was only a link to send him a message. The space for the message only allowed for a small amount of characters. I think 50. So, I had to fit as much information as possible in there without sounding terse. After about 2 minutes, my phone rings and it's him. He is not happy. His complaint is that those messages get forwarded to his supervisor. Almost the whole conversation revolved around me trying to explain why I was upset, apologizing, and him telling me that he was trying to help me. Then, the icing on the cake, he asks someone there with him,"did you tell him he had to pay the $637 when he picked up his car?" and a young lady answers, "noooo" I told him to have his supervisor call me and I'll explain. I'll take the blame. He told me not to worry about it. My phone that got destroyed was set up to automatically record every phone conversation. My spare is not set up that way. If my phone hadn't been destroyed, I would have had a recording of that girl telling me what she did. The more I think about this whole thing, something still seems wrong. My initial thought was that he was relieved that I didn't raise a stink about the bumper. (I still don't know what's wrong with it) But now I think something is off. I can't put my finger on it. Did I fall for some kind of adjuster trick? Am I over thinking it? I know that the adjuster isn't there to help me. And mechanics and insurance companies are not necessarily known for the honesty either. I still feel bad but something's not right. Is there an insurance adjuster or someone with experience that can explain? Yes, this is a major, major insurance company. No, I'm not expecting the check to be there. [link] [comments] |
Scratched Paint from Rear-End Accident. Insurance denied claim. What to do? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:59 AM PST I have very little experience dealing with insurance companies for auto claims -- would appreciate any advice. My husband was rear-ended by a woman about a month ago. It was very minor -- no damage to her vehicle. The bumper of my 2015 CRV was scratched though. It's just a few minor scratches about the size of 1" by .5". I've always been told to get a police report for any accident so my husband called the police and they made a report. He thinks they may have given the women a traffic violation as well because she was getting heated but we're not 100% sure about this. I called my insurance (Geico) and because I have a $500 deductible they said it would be better if I just filed a claim with the other woman's insurance. I called her insurance (State Farm) and filed a claim. They called me back saying that she denies ever even hitting the car and that the scratches were already there. I then sent her insurance a copy of the police report on 2/24. Yesterday, I received a letter from her insurance (dated 2/21) stating that based on their investigation they do not believe that she was legally liable for my damages. They wrote "The burden of proof was not met and our driver denies any involvement in your loss. In the absence of any legal liability, we would not be justified in making settlement. Therefore, we must deny payment of your claim." What are my options at this point? I do not know how much it would cost to fix. Is this a final decision and/or would I have to talk to my insurance to dispute this ruling? [link] [comments] |
Hit by debris of car in front of me Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:56 AM PST I live in Ontario and last night on my way home from work I was hit with a piece of debris from the car in front of me. It was a piece of the undercarriage and it caused pretty significant damage to my front end SUV under the headlight. I tried to flag him down but being on the highway and doing 100km/h it was not safe. I did get his license plate number and vehicle make. I'm just wondering what the next steps will be as my insurance is closed until tomorrow morning. Any advice is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:41 AM PST I don't even know what Express Scripts will say, but is it even a "thing" to have prescriptions filled early so I have at least 4 months on hand, and preferably 6 months? I am not sure if my Doctor has to order this, and then I have to get an override with Express Scripts, or other steps I just don't have knowledge of. Anyone successfully stock up, say for a long vacation that is far from civilization, or whatever the event was? [link] [comments] |
Can you recommend Assurity life insurance? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:38 AM PST Looking at term life. Would like to hear from those who are familiar with the company. Anyone know if they offer return of premium? Thanks guys! [link] [comments] |
[FL] Geico increased my monthly premium by $132.00 per month, for NO reason! Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:02 AM PST Almost fell to the ground when I opened the letter and saw that geico will increase my monthly premium starting this month by $132.00. Naturally I called them right away. The rep that I spoke to was stunned herself when I told her this, and especially after checking the account and seeing that we have literally never filed a claim, or had an accident, paid our insurance on autopay every month, and are considered "in good standing" with geico. They're explanation for the increase is because Florida law/rule recently changed, and they can no longer spread these increases over a longer period of time like they used to, and basically now have to do it all at once. Which to me sounds totally ridiculous. And also because there are simply more accidents happening around town, etc. Can they legally do this? Anybody in Florida that knows of this? I'm gonna contact the governors office tomorrow to see if I can speak to somebody about whether what they told me is true. EDIT:even with this insane increase, it's still considerably less expensive than any other insurance company that I've gotten a quote from. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:29 AM PST I'm looking to buy either a 2017 Subaru Impreza Sport or a new Subaru STI, both are manual/stick. I'm 18 and have never been in an accident nor have I been cited a ticket nor warning, in other words perfect driving record. I got some quotes and it seemed the average lowest for full coverage was $450 for either car. Is there anyway I can lower that monthly payment in the next couple months as I save up for a good size down payment? [link] [comments] |
