Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:41 AM PST I've been running a small pop-up pizzeria in a local bar for about 10 months. A friend wants to come on board and split everything down the middle. He's a graphic designer so can do all the design side of things and is a competent cook so knows what He's doing in the kitchen. I've wanted someone to come on board for a while to take a bit of pressure off me and free up my time and for another surge of inspiration that I'm probably lacking after 10 months of doing it. He's a sweet guy so I'm not really worried at all but from the little I've spoken to people about it who know business, they told me to cover my back. My girlfriend suggested going 55/45 then in a year reassessing. My dad told me to go 51/49 Just so I'm majority shareholder and since the business is my baby I can always hold on to it and protect it just In case. In the same breath, it's not a big business (less than £600 in assets easily but a good core following of people who love my pizzas and a great Instagram account I've put a lot of time into, albeit with only 400 followers or so) and Im afraid of putting the guy off in some way since he'll be bringing a lot to the business and putting a lot of his own money in. I'm basically clueless in many regards and was wondering if anyone who's had a similar experience could help me out with some advice! Let me know if you need any more information on what I'm doing. Thanks! Edit: thanks so much for everyone's responses. I'm gonna have a good old think about this in the morning and try and get back to everyone who's commented. [link] [comments] |
How Do You Find FUNDING for your LLC? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 11:30 PM PST I need to find proper funding, How do you get bank loans when you have an LLC? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Mar 2020 02:29 AM PST Sooo I own a quite successful small business in a very niche field; in my country we're less than 10 business doing it so we all know each other and regularly talk, help each other and we make sure we don't step on each other's toes. Like, we are not many people doing what we do and there is a big enough market for all of us to make good money without selling similar products,if tou see what I mean. There's only this lady who always refused to communicate with us, and after a few invitation to group chats etc we stopped because she was obviously not interested and that's okay. For my part, I share a lot of my work in progress on my social media accounts. I have a good reputation of having very good quality products abd I am also an expert in my field, so a lot of people interested in my domain are following me for the tips, advices etc I'm sharing regularly. Now, starting 2 years ago, the lady mentioned above started selling stuff very similar to mine. I did not though much of it because as mentioned above, I think there's enough room for everyone and we can have similar ideas at the same time, sure. But as time passed, the similarities became more and more frequent. Now it is to the point that all of her products are basically copies from mine. She also took all my tips and tutorials and shared them with her own images, but even that was so similar - like using the same colors and setups. It's to the point I regularly receive messages of people letting me know about her. I messages her 6 months ago when one of her products was so obviously inspired by my stuff that I could not pretend I did not knew about her anymore. I was very nice, and told het I noticed our work was very similar; it could be a coincidence, but the coincidences were just to frequent to be just coincidences. She replied to me and obviously denied. It kind of stopped there and for a while she stopped copying my stuff... For a while. A month ago she started copying my stuff again and it's honestly making me so... sad. I work so hard to have original ideas. I can't do shit legally because she's copying my ideas and concepts but not the actual products (like wen luxury items are copied by fast fashion brands - legally you can't do shit if they're not using your brand name) I don't want to "out" her o social media and create drama, partly because I'm well aware that the drama will hurt my business and because people already know she's a copycat. They still buy her stuff because obviously hers are cheaper. It does not hurt ly business that much, but It hurts me a lot. I hate competition and I truly think there's room for all our businesses, but her being so... Rude just hurts. I blocked her on my social medias but I can't set my accounts on private because social media is where 50% of my customers comes from so it's very very easy for her to see what I do with a different account. I also don't want to stop sharing stuff because as previously said, that's what my followers are here for. I know I just can't stop her. I just want to know how to deal with ot and not be so hurt by people like this. I just want my work to not be affected by this but it is. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Mar 2020 10:51 PM PST So I'm importing brand names from a supplier and they just informed me that I need to register trademarks for their products. Should I be paying for the trademark registration as the importer or should they as the manufacturer? Are trademarks really necessary? They are worried of infringement yet when searching the database there's nothing. [link] [comments] |
What software/app are you currently using that you are struggling with? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:40 PM PST Hi, any small business owners here that are not that tech savvy. Square POS - How to do online order delivery without 3rd party vendor? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:12 PM PST Hello, I am setting up a business where food can be ordered online and delivered to the customer. Square can integrate with 3rd party vendors like DoorDash and GrubHub, but I would like to deliver the orders on my own or hire my own driver once I receive them from the online store. Does anyone have any idea how to do this? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:55 PM PST Hey everyone. I'm not very educated/experienced on business terms and approaches. I just make resin products and jewelry from my home and sell them online. My only issue is, I'm losing traffic with customers. My website (through Wix) tells me when I have visitors and I get maybe one a day. I've tried Etsy, but even that isn't working well. I really want this business to work. I struggle with depression and this is the one thing that has made my life worth a damn. I love doing my work, and I don't want to give up yet. How can I get my name out there and get more customers? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
POS for Delivery Schedule Tracking Posted: 01 Mar 2020 11:43 PM PST My Friend Runs a water refilling station, they are asking for a software or program that will help them keep in track for the delivery schedules and also keep a record every purchase/order a client makes. What POS software will be the best for it? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Risky Domain Names ... What to do? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:57 PM PST We're currently trying to buy a domain name for our website. We didn't expect to get all of the names we wanted, but we were checking out the currently owned ones to see what the name was used for (in case it was unused and something we could buy). Well, the most basic - the companyname.com variant is taken. Now that's fine, and we would totally keep moving forward with a different domain name if it was something innocuous, but it's a damn Chinese porn site. We are currently trying to negotiate with the domain owner to try to buy the site (anyone have any experience with this?), but in the worst case that falls through, I'm worried that our business name is too risky. My partner isn't too worried about it because the porn site doesn't come up with a google search and he believes that will be the method most used to find our business, so if we SEO right, it shouldn't be a problem, but I'm just imagining some POOR soul trying to navigate to our site and boldly using the full website address with the generic and common .com to find it and - suddenly - foreign pornography. I personally love the name and brand I came up with as it's a combination of my partner and my names into a word and the meaning behind the word relates to our slogan, but I think if we cannot get the most-likely-to-be-used domain name away from porn - then we should re-brand. I could use advice... Any opinions? [link] [comments] |
Establishing conflict of interest in a partnership Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:59 AM PST My business partner and I are meeting to flesh out what conduct we expect from one another when it comes to our partnership as well as our individual freelance work. We own a greeting card business (not brick and mortar), designing and selling greeting cards, B2C and wholesale. My partner is the designer/illustrator and I handle the business side. We primarily sell our proprietary designs, though we offer custom designed cards as a service. We have been in business for less than a year and are not yet solvent. We have two scenarios at play right now that I would like to run by you, and would also love any additional information you feel could be helpful and relevant when drafting our operating agreement.
We're amending our operating agreement on Tuesday and I'd like to be prepared with knowledge on standards and best practices. TIA [link] [comments] |

At what point does it make sense to use managed printer services? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:33 PM PST Our office prints about 3,000 black and white pages per month. Typically, we buy higher end models available at Staples or similar stores. These tend to last about two years before significant issues pop up. More often than not, it makes more sense to just get a new printer. Does it make even a little sense to switch to managed print services? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 08:15 PM PST I am a Canadian merchant on Shopify. I recently renamed my store business.shop intstead of business.ca as most of my traffic is from USA. Now I am wondering, I currently us a PO Box as my address (Canada Post Flex Delivery) to receive potential returns. Can I get a US virtual address to accept or forward my returns to me, or is there any other solution so that I can show a US address at the footer of my site, such that I dont "spook" US customers into thinking big scary international shipping or conversion fees? Any other suggestions for my small business? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Cash drawer for square terminal? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:35 PM PST So my cousin is running a small hair salon and is looking to get the square terminal to finally get the cash register in place. Thing is, she can't find a usb cash drawer that is compatible/one that doesn't need a printer to go along with it. I wanted to ask for her here. Edit: She's looking for a cheaper one than the one square sells. [link] [comments] |

Can I take the name of an expired or inactive LLC? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 06:33 PM PST I am forming an LLC and trying to decide on my "official" name. My name is official however it is taken by a expired business. Another business has a similar name but it is inactive. Could I use one of those? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:26 PM PST Hi guys. I was just running some rough numbers based on buying a new 1/2 ton truck vs 100k miles. Including resale price and difference in insurance, average repairs and gas prices, assuming we run the new truck for 200k miles and 100k more on the already 100k truck - my numbers are coming out roughly even per mile/year I was just scribbling these down when I had 5 minutes to wait for pizza. I am wondering if anyone has enough experience with multiple trucks and has actually done the numbers here. Did you find used to be a better deal or new? Assuming you don't already have a mechanic and need to take into a shop. I plan to go deeper into this and do more research, but I think for me if new is less than 10% total cost more, it is worth the peace of mind to go new and be able to have nice trucks, not worry about picking a used dud, potential downtime and be able to have a nicer presentation for clients. This is basically aimed at anyone from landscapers to carpenters, any business where you need reliable trucks. [link] [comments] |
Seamlessly transition target customers? Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:26 PM PST Anyone know any good histories of companies that grew seamlessly from early start to current? Also how do I change target customers, seamlessly. Like if I sold a niche pair of shoes that was innovative but expensive $300. Then I sell $200 innovative premium shoes. Still a small company. Then a range of $120 dollar shoes for the mass market. As a big company. How does a company make a general strategy to seamlessly transition? [link] [comments] |
Started business, got pregnant, realized business is more of a hobby Posted: 01 Mar 2020 04:03 PM PST Hi everyone... I'm looking for help. I started a small soap business last year in April. I found out I was pregnant in May. By that time, I had already paid my LLC fees and bought insurance etc. I couldn't make soaps while I was pregnant due to the risk of possibly breathing in lye fumes. (Even with proper protection, I didn't want to risk anything.) I had already made some soaps and was able to sell a minuscule amount at 2 different local craft fairs. I'm talking less than 10 bars. I had a relatively difficult pregnancy and just recently had my baby. Understandably, my mind has been elsewhere. I want to be done with my LLC and know how to get the paperwork for that, but I don't know what to do about my taxes since I did so little. I really didn't plan for any of this and I am very lost. Posted: 01 Mar 2020 07:49 AM PST I run a small business and am thinking it's time to retire. How do I find the value? I think I could see to a competitor but want to know what an accurate number is before I put the business on the market. [link] [comments] |
0.5% conversion rate, few sales.HELP Posted: 01 Mar 2020 03:32 PM PST I run a service based business that I'm advertising on Instagram. I have a good online presence there with lots of followers and good design, this means I'm getting quite a few clicks on my site. My clicks should be only from people specific to my niche because it only is interesting to my target audience. I'm not getting sales though and I need help finding out why. Offering Free website for business (for my portfolio) Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:15 PM PST Hi all, I do sincerely apologize if I cannot post this type of stuff here or if these type of posts get created every other day. My goal is NOT to promote my business but to get a project under my belt while helping a startup out with a free website :) Now lets get on to it... I am building a website design agency and need some work for my portfolio. Already started building a website for my father's business but that project got delayed till next month because of reasons. After I complete his website I would want at least 2 more websites that I can put on my portfolio. I specialize in WordPress websites which just means that it is much more maintainable and easy to learn for the average joe then a custom coded website. I can offer my own maintenance if you'd want anything changed on this website 3 months down the road or you can outsource any other WordPress developer in your area(they're everywhere) and they'll have no problem customizing this website. As you can see on my website, I cater more to the home improvement industry. Anything related to that area whether you have a carpet cleaning business or a remodeling one, Ill be happy to help out. My requirements:
Please keep in mind that I am already offering a complete website and wont be able to give you 10+ revisions every other week. Appreciate the time. Again, apologies if this post violated any rules. My website - https://niwebstudios.com/ (parts are unfinished) [link] [comments] |
Looking for software to create digital training course. Posted: 01 Mar 2020 05:10 PM PST Hi All, Does anyone have any recommendations for digital training course creation. I'm looking for something to complement an in-person training package. I've looked on Google but its hard to find anything suitable because of all the "Make a million dollars selling online courses" articles. All the recommended software is more expensive and does more than I need. Basically we will be offering hands-on training for beauty services. In addition to the hands-on training, we would like to provide students with digital course materials (Information, Forms, Questionnaires, Results etc). I'm looking for something in-between creating our own PDF forms and something like Teachable. Really appreciate any advice you have. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Marketing for Service Businesses Posted: 01 Mar 2020 01:10 PM PST Hello I would like some help from you knowledgeable people. I just started a window cleaning company in Iceland a few months ago and I'm looking for more ways to get new clients. I started in december by going to around a 100 small businesses and giving them my card, I got 5 jobs from doing that which was not that great but at least something. I put up a wordpress website and a gmb listing and have gotten a few jobs from there. Last week I printed out about a 1000 flyers and did about 500 and will continue to do more and today I started a facebook ad. Now the snow is melting and the sun is starting to shine a little more so I want to find more ways of advertising. These are some ideas I have and I would like to get your opinion on them: Yard signs Posters to hang in grocery store Buying an ad in the paper Google ads I would love to hear the ways you use to advertise your service business or think would work for me as a window cleaner [link] [comments] |
