Do normal insurance plans cover the COVID 19 aka coronavirus?

What kind of insurance plans do I need if I travel from Canada/U.S to any other country? Is there a special insurance needed to cover me if I get the coronavirus?

Would really appreciate your help. My flight is in three days! LOL

Worried about auto insurance points on license

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:00 AM PST

Hello, I am a 30 yo male living in Ohio, US. I work a lot usually 2nd or 3rd shift as a traveling contractor as I am trying to pay my bills and do better in my life. Unfortunately a lot of weary travel at odd hours sometimes I get pulled over but it's what I got so far as what I can do now for work.

Recently I got pulled over for a phone violation when I was briefly looking at my phone at a stop light (no typing, just a momentary glance at gps). I admit fault but am looking for the most economical course of action. Listed below are some details:

The cop interaction was extremely short, no room for any discussion. He did mention that there would be no points if I paid the ticket which costs 270$. However when I called in, they mentioned it would be 2 points on the license and around the same price (mandatory fee) to get in front of a judge to try to waive it, but no guarantee (and thus costing about 500$ total) not to mentioned lost wages for taking off of work that day. I don't mind going to court since all my driving life I have done nothing wrong on the roads except this infraction and I believe 2 prior points for speeding.

In my state it takes 3 years for an incident to fall off your record (using Geico). If I just pay the ticket I'll have 4 points but I do believe there are perhaps 2 other minor incidents like a seatbelt and I think a tint violation both which had no points.

I also just received a notice of liability automated speed and traffic enforcement program, which I guess is a type of camera ticket. I have never received one of these and thought that only an officer pulling you over can give you a citation since I dont remember even driving to the location the camera said I was at. Ignore or pay or will this have any points?

So with all of that laid out, I'm posting here to ask for ideas on what to expect and suggestions on which course of action would be best for me, just a guy who works a lot and is trying to save so I can eventually perhaps move and build a debt free life. Also would there be any way to see what the office would see on my driver record file, I definitely do want to work towards a complete clean slate, and as far as I know I have 2 pts before and then potentially 2 pts here.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks!

Gave wrong insurance info at birth of child

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 10:03 PM PST

We had our child less than a month ago and I just realized I accidentally gave the hospital the wrong insurance info for the labor. Is it too late to switch it?

My girlfriend and I worked it out months ago to where everything up to birth was better to use through her insurance, and from there I would add our child to my insurance once born.

Today I got a bill from the hospital through my insurance and it caught me off guard because it's going to probably end up costing us thousands more. We're going to try to call her insurance tomorrow. Are there any ways to fix this?

    Claim Question.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:46 AM PST

So I recently switched car insurance companies, and after a few days I receive an email from my old insurance company saying there was a claim made against my policy a couple months back. This was weird because I knew for a fact I wasn't involved in any incident. The brief summary had my daily car listed but the driver was reported as unknown. I checked my security cameras for the time that was posted and my car was in the parking at that time. I was just wondering what I should do now? This is definitely a wrong claim made and I'm more confused as to why they notify me a few months after the claim date right when I switch companies. What should I do because I don't want this to effect my new insurance rates or put a point on the account? Also, how could someone possibly make a claim against me if they don't know why insurance information? I have no problem going to court to fight against this since I have proof, but I rather resolve it the easy way. Thank you for any help guys.

[USA - PA] Getting wisdom teeth extracted - can someone explain this to me?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 07:45 PM PST

My oral surgeon called and quoted me about $760 ($758 and some-odd cents) to have all 4 teeth extracted. She told me that the two wisdom teeth that are impacted are covered under my medical insurance, while the two that are not impacted are covered under dental. My medical deductable is $2500, so the extraction and general anesthesia are going under medical and make up $647.28 of the total. The remainder is the non-impacted teeth.

I don't understand why a medically-necessary dental procedure would go under medical - is it because it is not preventative care?

I'm also not certain which two teeth count as impacted. I have my two bottom wisdom teeth which have barely broken the gum line. They have not caused any problems. However, my top two wisdom teeth have grown in all the way - at first, the right side would hurt every time I would get super congested and sick. Now, the teeth themselves do not necessarily hurt, but I get headaches every day where the pain usually feels like it goes from my cheek bones up to my temples and either around to the back of my head or to the top of my head. Would the impacted teeth be the ones that are actively causing pain, or the ones that won't grow in all the way?

Also, if I ask for an itemized bill following the procedure, will it go down from that $760?

Sorry if this isn't the place to ask this!! I'm just curious and have no idea where to turn to, as I'm getting different answers from friends and family!

Spending the summers out of state. Will my Insurance cover?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:40 AM PST

I have Aetna PPO. We're paying 14k per year for coverage. It covers me, my husband and 2 adult children.

We (Husband and I) will be spending our Summer time up north, out of state.

We already had one dispute with the company when my husband had a 'fake heart attack'. (it was pancreatitis) His symptoms mimicked a heart attack, but was not.

Even though we were in a network hospital, we were charged the ER DR's fee because he was 'out-of-network'.

We got that sorted to our favor.

What should we expect if we get ill out of state and need medical care?

Would it be cheaper to fly back home for treatment or would we be covered?

    Car stolen/recovered

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:47 PM PST

I'll try to keep this as short as possible. My brother was robbed at gunpoint. He's ok. They took my car. Such car was later found. I filed a claim for theft. I was told my best options would be for my car to be intact or totaled. To be honest, I don't see major damage was done. Should I still wait for the adjustor to inspect the car? Can I deny having such inspection? Will filing this claim make my premium go up? Thanks!

Can I get garage keepers (auto detailer) insurance for 6 months out of the year?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 06:39 PM PST

I own a small mobile detailing business/hobby (I am the only employee). Since I live in New England I can only do this work 5-6 months out of the year due to weather. Last year was my first year insuring myself and I purchased a full year's coverage. Is there a way to purchase a 6 month policy? Thanks!

Speeding ticket with international license in VT but lives in NY

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:10 PM PST

I caught my first speeding ticket with my international license in Vermont but I reside in New York.

Waiver amount is 165$. My main concern is I don't want this to show on my records and hiking up my insurance. I'm new to the country and I'm in the process of getting a New York state driver's license, only got the learner's permit so far but I've been driving with my international license.

What's the best course of action here for me ?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My parked car was hit by my friends Uhaul truck

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:26 AM PST

Long/annoying story short, a friend is renting a room and moved in over the weekend. After unpacking, her boyfriend was driving her rented uhaul truck off our driveway, severely misjudged his turn and drove the truck over the hood of my car.

The damage is (I hope) mostly cosmetic, but it's bad. The underbody of the truck was scraping over the hood of my car because he didn't even realize it was hitting until the rear wheel rammed into it. Metal body of my car is dented inward with paint scraped off, bumper was torn off, headlight fixture is scratched/cracked, and the car was pushed back quite a bit from impact so there might be some alignment issues.

I'm not sure what direction to go with this mess. She rented the truck, but he was the one driving it when the accident occurred. I don't even know if their personal insurance covers a Uhaul accident in the first place, and I doubt they purchased additional insurance for the truck itself. It's obviously a shitty situation, but it is a longtime friend and I'd prefer it not be messy. I just want it fixed. Do I just claim through my own insurance, and if so will I still have to pay anything for it or would they go after the other parties? I really don't want to pay a cent for this since it was completely out of my control

Hit the bottom of my car on the curb

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 05:15 PM PST

I was driving in the snow this past weekend, and could not see where the driveway is while backing out... ended up missing the driveway and going down at the curb. I drive a Porsche and it is very low to the ground, and it got hit in one spot. The damage is limited to one spot (the impact area), and the car is still fine overall, just some cosmetic damage. Should I claim this on my insurance for the repairs (I can live without fixing it now)? Would it count as an accident and raise my premium if I do? If I wanted to make a claim and not have my rate go up, what would be the best way to make this claim?

[SC] Can a car be totaled if there’s more damage at the body shop?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:58 PM PST

I was recently involved in an accident where the other person was deemed 100% at fault. They have State Farm. State Farm has done an estimate on my car and want to repair it. Can they decide to total it if there's more damage when they tear the car down?

    Balance Billing

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:33 PM PST

I recently had a less than 12 hour (privately owned) ER visit to get fluids after a bad case of food poisoning. My insurance is showing they were billed $32,000!!! for the visit and states that only $1900 is the allowed amount that goes to my deductible, out of pocket max, etc.

I called the billing company for the ER, and they stated that they don't balance bill but were disputing the insurance's allowable amount. I just got notice that the appeal was denied.

My question is basically what am I going to owe? As I understand it, I'm responsible for $1,900, and if the ER balance billed, they could bill me for the remainder, but since they don't, I only owe what my insurance determined is the allowable amount. Is that right?

Huge issues with Geico - getting ripped off, lied to, mistreated, mystery charges, etc. Need advice on how to fight back!

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 12:25 PM PST

So this may be a long one - but this is a crazy situation and we need advice badly.

About a month ago, Geico randomly raised our policy by about 80$. Due to a poor driving record, we had worked our way down from 350 a month to 260 and now were shot back up. When my partner called, they wouldn't tell us why our policy had been raised. He said we may have to cancel and go somewhere else - can't afford our policy. Keeps asking for details on why the rate went up, the person seems to be avoiding the question and just keeps saying they don't know. But note that he did NOT tell them to cancel the policy outright, nor did he confirm anything. Something comes up and he asked to call back. We ended up just accepting things for the time being and just decided to pay the extra money while we look around for a cheaper rate.

When he calls back a few days later we are informed that Geico has cancelled our policy. We're basically just shocked and confused and received no notice of this.

When we call somewhere else to sign up - they are going through the accidents on record with us, and bring up about 3 accidents that geico had on us that DID NOT HAPPEN and do not match the make and model of our car at all. Geico had NEVER asked us about these accidents, essentially skirting around the issue and playing dumb when we tried to figure out why our premium went up.

Next thing we know, at about 3am, he gets an alert on his phone saying that Geico has charged us 50$. When he calls in about it, they say something vague about an address change from earlier that month. But why are we being charged for this after our policy is cancelled? No one can tell.

He has them cancel the charge. It is weeks later and though they apparently told us they cancelled a charge, no money has been refunded. In fact, they told us that we now owed another 50$, and once again basically refused to tell us why.

Now we get a bill in the mail from Geico for about 1300$, claiming something along the lines of we broke our contract and need to pay for the upcoming 5 months-ish of would-be charges, in addition to a few other types of fees for negligence or something along those lines. As I've said, we went through no process of cancellation, no confirmation, nothing. Literally mentioned the possibility in frustration, asked them can we call back to talk through this later, and the agent takes it upon herself to cancel our policy without telling us or confirming a single thing.

What do we do? We are not paying this money. How do we file a grievance or take some kind of action that wont just get lost in the void of geico's horrific company management?

    Stolen Car-Looking for advice

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 03:22 PM PST

Looking for some advice to a sad situation. New 2019 Impreza was stolen right outside my house the other day. I have comprehensive insurance. Cop took my statement and in an attempt to be honest and unthinking I said I sometimes leave spare keys in the car. The officer also indicated on the report the car was locked. Will my insurance cover the claim if they know there was a spare pair of keys in it. I live in MA if that matters :/ Please reassure me it will be fine..

    How does full coverage work?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:59 PM PST

For most all cars that have a lien, they require full coverage insurance. I am looking at rates online and have absolutely no idea what that means. I have looked at videos and through websites and it seems that everything I read has nothing to do with what I see on my insurance's website. Say I have a 20k loan out on a car, what would I need in terms of this screenshot for my full coverage insurance?

Thank you, I am so confused.

Should I file a claim or not?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:58 PM PST

My teenage daughter was at fault in a fender bender last week and did about $2,900 damage to the other car and about $1,500 to our car. We use Geico and have a $1,000 deductible. Geico cannot tell me how much my insurance premium will increase or if it will go up less if I pay the damages out of pocket. Does anyone have any insight on this? Logically it seems to me that if I file a claim for $4,400, my increase will be more than if I pay damages out of pocket.

    Car Insurance Claim Submittal

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 07:39 AM PST

My(leased) parked car was hit as someone was trying to park in the next stall to me. Minor scratches/scuffs, but it being a leased car is worrisome. They gave me their insurance info but asked if they could shop around and see what if would be out of pocket. They would prefer if it not go through insurance. I said okay, no problem. I do so the next weekend and the quotes I received were out of their budget. Now they say its fine to go through insurance. One week in time lapse isn't going to raise any red flags, right? Can i tell the claims adjuster, IF they ask why it took me a week to submit claim, was that your policyholder wanted to pay out of pocket but eventually wasn't viable?

    TIA!

    Dui damage

I had a dui and a single car collision on Thursday night, I just saw the car for the first time and there's significant damage on the front end of my Toyota Tacoma, I have geico and I LITTERALLY just started my service with them about 2 weeks before with full coverage and a 500 deductible. My question is, do I just bite the bullet and make a claim and have it fixed? Or just eat it and have it fixed myself. Thanks

Determining and getting “loss of use” compensation after a contractor damaged two rooms in our home

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 08:55 AM PST

I asked this question in r/legaladvice and was told to ask here about "loss of use" compensation.

Long story short: a contractor did major damage to two rooms in our house. They were at fault and we're going through their insurance.

After getting initial estimates and getting the demolition done, we are now on hold to get everything repaired while they approve the costs.

However, we're now entering one month of this ordeal, and we've lost use of both rooms. In addition we lost the use of a guest bedroom and our garage, because we had to store all the furniture and items from the damaged areas.

This insurance company has been a PITA to work with for just the work coverage. I believe we deserve additional compensation for the loss of our house and garage. We've had to cancel on friends and family visiting, because we have no guest room, among other things.

What is a good way to estimate these "loss of use" damages? Beyond getting a lawyer, is there anything we can do to move towards collecting these damages?

    Thanks in advance.
