Surprise $6k bill from a procedure over a year ago Posted: 28 Feb 2020 01:44 PM PST Apparently my surgery last year had an out of network doctor assisting and now I'm footing an additional $6k. They only just told me today they were not being approved (the out of network doctor). I had this surgery pre-approved and in an in network hospital in Texas. Is there anything I can do? I called the insurance company and they said all I can do is write an appeal letter so I plan to do that. Any reasoning I should include in that? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:52 PM PST So my wife was at school pick up today and the back of the bus side swiped our SUV!! So the yellow curb, pick up/ drop off. It also is the bus loading zone. He is the big thing here. It's a public street. So my wife was in front of all the buses, they bus driver(was a sub). Came up to my wife and asked her to pull forward a little, so my wife moves the Durango up and puts it in park. At the same time the lady told my wife that she isn't good at turns. So she gets back in the bus, starts to turn and side swipes our Durango. The CHP comes, takes both reports. The driver admitted she hit our Durango. But then the CHP says in cases like this it's 50/50. How in the world is it 50/50??!!! My wife is freaking out because it might get totaled. It's almost paid off. We don't have the money for a new vehicle. We might not get as much as it's worth. All the damage is on a spot that just can't be replaced. It's on the main body of the Durango. What can I do! What if my insurance doesn't help out, because the CHP said 50/50. [link] [comments] |
Just switched car insurance to Root yesterday. Lady backed into me today. What to expect (AZ). Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:21 PM PST Like the title says, I switched over to Root yesterday for cheaper insurance. I'm a poor student and I only have liability. Was parked and waiting for my GF to get out of work when a lady backed into me and put a large dent in my car. There was no damage to her car. Filed a claim, what should I expect as far as future rates and penalties? [link] [comments] |
Question about bodily injury amounts Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:05 PM PST Ok guys I'm gonna try to ask this the best I can. So say I was in a wreck and my hospital Bill's was 35k but the guy that was at fault and hit me only has 25k worth of coverage. What happens then? Will the insurance company pay out more or will they only pay out 25k. Also how do I see some auto accident cases being settled for over a million dollars how is that. Considering most people dont have that type of coverage? Thanks for any help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:21 PM PST Insurance newbie here. Due to a set of sticky family circumstances, I'm hesitant to join my husband's insurance before summer in case it sets off alarms on my parents' end of things. Essentially wondering if it's possible to be added to a second insurance policy without notifying the first (really not trying to commit insurance fraud or anything crazy here). [link] [comments] |
Hit a animal in someone else’s car, will MY insurance cover damages? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:11 PM PST I hit what I believe was a coyote tonight in my brothers car on the expressway. I feel terrible about it because he just got the car and is understandably upset. I have full coverage insurance and so does he (2 different policies). I'm with a (I think) local insurance company called Loya Insurance and I was wondering would my insurance cover the damages since I was driving even though it's not my car? [link] [comments] |
In California, is entering a Domestic Partnership a QLE? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:48 PM PST Okay so it seems like these 3 things are true:
And with that combination of things, it seems like entering into a Domestic Partnership in California should legally afford me the right to change my insurance... is that correct? Are insurance companies bound by those laws also? Are they required to offer me insurance, or is only the state required to offer me insurance? I'm trying to change my insurance at my company, and some salesperson at the insurance company is saying that the only option I have is to add my new DP to _my_ policy, but that we cannot _change_ the policies. Am I crazy? Should I be allowed to do this? [link] [comments] |
Claimant is asking for 24k but my insurance only covers 15k Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:43 PM PST Hey guys, Wondering what my options are here. So I am at fault and I agreed to pay the damages which were 6k when I spoke to the other person, and then I got a learn from their attorney they hired that they wanted to get info on my insurance coverage which I denied. Today I got a letter saying that the damages to the car were in fact 6k but there are other personal damages (shoulder) and loss of working days which somehow amounts to 18k. My insurance hasn't been all too helpful or transparent within this process. So what are my options here? I think I need to seek legal counsel as well, and my insurance states they can pay for one that they choose. [link] [comments] |
Do companies tend to give great intro premiums and then raise them after first coverage period? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:09 AM PST My insurer raised my auto rates for nonsense reasons I don't want to go into detail in the OP, but I'm shopping for new insurance. All the carriers are giving me similar rates but one is giving me probably 20%-25% less than most of the competition. I'm wondering if this is a low-ball sales sales tactic and I should worry about them raising my rates to be similar with other quotes after the first year or two? Offer is from Progressive, fyi. Minor Dent Car Accident. Help! Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:18 PM PST A car swiped my back end with their side mirror and left a little dent. I didn't want to go through insurance or have it repaired because I don't want my car to show up that it had an accident and depreciate the value. So he gave me $100 and we called it a day. But my dad is pissed saying I should've called the police and the insurance and have it repaired. It's not that noticeable and would going through insurance to repair it show up the cars history? Did I make the right call by not going through insurance? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:44 PM PST I apologize for the long post, but I need your guy's help because I am not experienced with claims at all. So, my car is a '06 Mercedes-Benz S500. Purchased w/ salvage title but everything was rebuilt to normal driving conditions long before my purchase(my purchase was in 2015). Recently, it was parked at a restaurant, and some debris from a tree dropped and cracked both my windshields. Front has point of impact and three lines coming out of it, but rear has no point of impact, but has one line fracture from top to right bottom. So, I filed a claim with Geico immediately. I have comprehensive coverage with them with $250 deductible. THey said everything should be covered w/ Safelite with OEM glass approved or I could take it to my own mechanic. Safelite said OEM glass price was $950 for front and $2300 for rear (only glass, not labor) and $100 for adhesive. This was approved by GEICO before I even hung up on first call to file the claim. I called safelite few days later to double check OEM glass, rain sensors, defroster w/ glass etc. They said they cannot reprogram the sensors or recalibrate and I did not want to go to Safelite and then to dealer to get it reprogrammed, so I took it to my own mechanic who works at the dealer. He wrote up an estimate for both glasses, reprogramming the sensors, recalibration, and labor (220/h). GEICO said they will only pay $0/h labor if I take to my own mechanic. How is this even fair? EVen safelite doesn't do it for $40/h if I take it out of pocket. Estimate at dealer was $5K with everything - glass part price was similar to safelite (safelite was higher by few hundred $) $2300+$700 back+front , reprogramming and recalibration was $1K and labor as $1K. My mechanic submitted the estimate to GEICO glass claims. Back glass is more expensive in every case w/ safelite or any mechanic. GEICO contacted me today saying they closed the glass claim (without my authorization and after everything with safelite being approved) and opened a normal claim because estimate of repair value is greater than car's value. This seems shady because now I might lose the car. He said an adjuster will have to come out and inspect it. He said it could be a total loss just based on the repair cost. He was talking comparing it to KBB value and how it could be converted to salvage title. I told him that car is already salvage ( did I make a mistake telling him this?) He says my options might be to take the full value of car in cash and they take it away, or I retain the car and get some money, or not get any money and I pay everything out of pocket, but he is not 100% sure cuz he is not the adjuster. He did the say the insurance has to pay the full value of the repair (I have no idea what this means now). I will be leaving the car with my mechanic at the dealer on Monday. My mechanic said he will be there when the adjuster comes and he will handle everything. (Or should I tell him I want to be there?). I really think I botched this up by going to my own mechanic and not choosing Safelite. But safelite couldn;t habdle rain sensors and such. THe price would almost be the same if I took half here and half there. Do I have any other options? I want to keep the car no matter waht and get the glasses replaced w/ maximum amount they could have paid when under glass claim. I don't want to lose the car. How should I handle it to get this outcome. Please let me know if I can clarify anything. From damage to now has been 2 weeks and few days. [link] [comments] |

Anyone trying to pass their life and health in Wisconsin, try Xcel Solutions for studying. Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:53 PM PST I passed with an 88% today after only a week and a half of studying. Kaplan is also great. I used them for my P & C. [link] [comments] |
Wondering if independent insurance position is a good fit given my background Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:21 AM PST I'm a 25 year old software engineer with a Statistics undergrad degree. I am looking for work to do outside of my 9-5. Somebody mentioned insurance work to me, as in undergrad I was heavily involved in actuarial clubs and stuff like that. From what I've read online it seems like a nice little niche and I've also seen people create their own insurance businesses. Just wondering if you think I should go for it and also what the main pros and cons are. I'm sure people who are heavily knowledgeable in the industry can point out things I should look out for / reasons why I should think twice about doing it. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Total Loss. Insurance paying 60%, took my car already. What are my options. Posted: 28 Feb 2020 02:00 PM PST This is related to my post from a few days ago. Thank you very much for all the answers, everything is more clear now. Quick summary: Car accident, 40% liability, I think it should be close to zero. My car is total loss, they valued it, they took the car already and I'm negotiating with the adjuster (mostly the liability %). My questions are:
As I said, thanks again for the previous answers. I don't use Reddit often, but I guess I'll have to start giving coins :D Edit: Added a 3rd question :/ [link] [comments] |
Does auto insurance for someone who doesn't own a car worthwhile? Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:38 PM PST I am removing my 25 year old son from my auto insurance because he's been living out of state for two years (Boston) and only drives my car occasionally (rarely) when he visits. He doesn't need a car in the city for now. Is it worth the cost for him to buy "car-less" auto insurance? I guess the main reason would be for continuity of coverage until he buys a car. I understand that coverage also includes other incidents like if he gets hit as a pedestrian. How much does continuity of coverage matter if he doesn't own a car? He might not own a car for years. COVID-19 travel insurance for UK trip Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:29 AM PST My wife and her older father are planning a two week trip to the UK this summer, and they purchased their flights long before COVID-19 came into the picture. He's in the age range and has some chronic conditions that put him in one of the higher risk categories. We're now very concerned that the situation may get worse and we want to pick up some travel insurance that will cover them in the case that they have to cancel their trip or even worse something happens and they get stuck over there. Questions:
Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:53 AM PST The only one I've managed to find is veygo temporary insurance but they don't seem to insure any of the cars I put in. The cars I have access to are Volkswagen Polo 1.2L 2009, Alfa Romeo Julietta sportive 1.4L 2013 or Alfa Romeo or Alfa Romeo 159 saloon. I know the insurance categories are in the 20's for the Alfa's so I've been trying to find one for the VW but I can't seem to find any temporary cover. I can't get a full years cover as I'm moving country in the next couple months. If anyone has any good suggestions or know of any that don't use a black box it would be appreciated. Setting auto accident claim today regarding a weird situation... looking for advice Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:07 AM PST Hi all, Last month my girlfriend was hit by a semi driver that attempted to switch lanes. As she was traveling straight the semi driver clipped her, spun her in front of the truck, and dragged her. Nobody is cited as the driver had his strobe lights on. Her car was towed to impound. Accident report comes out, the driver pretty much admitted fault. He was driving straight, attempted to switch lanes, and heard a boom. Called our insurance (Geico) and they tried to reach out to the listed insurance company. Geico calls back saying they didn't have coverage at the time of the accident. Girlfriend's car she was in was her winter beater (2k value), so there was no UM-P coverage. Bad idea, learned that lesson now. Geico won't help. Call the trucking company to ask for insurance. Small company, about 4 drivers. Guy basically tells me to pound sand. Okay. I reached out to the sheriff's department and DOT. Sheriff's department couldn't do anything for me and didn't seem to care he didn't have insurance. DOT had me leave a voicemail. About 4 business days later, we're facing a 1k tow bill, so we decide to pull the car and take him to small claims. We documented everything with the car, dozens of pictures, etc. Sold it for $50 to scrappers. About 2 days after, as I'm literally drafting up the paperwork, I get a call from the DOT. I end up getting sent through a few people and come back with an insurance policy. Next day I call in, they were covered! I filed the claim. Trucking company called me a few hours later trying to settle out of pocket. Total mood change from the last phone call with him. We try negotiating, he ends up blowing me off by the end of it. We called insurance and did our "investigation" discussing what happened, and they pretty much hinted that she's not at fault. Cool. Now the problem is, we don't have the car to get actually looked at. The agent was out of the office until today so we have to finish the remainder of the process today. How big of a hiccup is not having the car anymore going to cause? The whole reason we didn't have it anymore was because we expected to go to small claims court. This was also recorded in the interview. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:51 AM PST We had a plumbing leak in our kitchen with significant water damage, that thankfully our insurance is covering. I need advice on what type of company/contractor I should hire that will do quality work, and be able to best handle working with the insurance claim. We're not sure if a kitchen design company, general contractor, or a second damage and restoration company would be our best option. My cabinets weren't included in the scope when the adjusters came. The inner bottom, back, and one side of the under sink cabinet were completely removed during emergency mitigation, and there's visible water damage to the other side. They mentioned repairs could be made to the cabinets, but that isn't included in the initial paperwork they provided and I need to make sure I call my agent and send them pictures of the inside of the cabinets. They're definitely covering the floor, which at the moment is ripped down to the subfloor in about a third of my kitchen, along with a few other things like drywall and insulation. I understand insurance companies use a calculator to come up with their estimate, and that the estimates we get from contractors won't be the same, and there's often some back and forth about what exactly needs to be done, and how much it will cost. I definitely want to hire someone familiar with the process, so my kitchen can be repaired quickly and properly, bc I have two small children, and it's unsafe and inconvenient living with a kitchen that's partially torn apart. My biggest concern is making sure the contractor we hire does quality work, and has experience dealing with insurance claims, bc it's different than work done not involving a claim. They need permission from our insurance company before doing any work not specifically listed in the scope. I'm afraid of having to pay a lot of money out of pocket because we hire a someone unfamiliar with the process of handling insurance claims, who doesn't properly notify and get permission from our insurance company if they discover or repair any additional damage not specifically listed in our initial paperwork. The company we used for the emergency mitigation told us that our floor, cabinets, and some drywall and insulation needed to be replaced, and that they'd handle getting the insurance company to adjust the claim. We ended up deciding not to use them for the rebuilding process after some frustrating and questionable issues arose, such as workers showing up to demo our kitchen with no notice, and the company suggesting we add them as a payee on our claim check. I'm scared of hiring another company who will try to use the claim check to get paid for shoddy work, or who doesn't have experience dealing with insurance claims and might unintentionally do work that isn't covered that we will have to pay for out of pocket. ETA- Further details and clarification about my situation and concerns, and I removed the word lowball after a reply made me realize it was a poor choice of wording, bc I don't think my insurance company is intentionally trying to screw me. I just realize that there's going to be some back and forth between us,the contractor, and our insurance company about what repairs need to me made and how much they cost, and I want things to move as quickly and smoothly as possible. I'm just angry and a little paranoid after the first company we hired tried to screw us, and I'm incredibly frustrated my kitchen is a disaster zone! [link] [comments] |
