BABA 12 mo. median target is $1,686, a 680% increase

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:22 PM PST

1st off I do not put a lot of stock (no pun intended) into analysts price targets. but I decided to go through the 12 mo. price targets for some of my holdings just for fun. Most are normal MSFT: 200; FB: 250; GOOG: 1600; AMZN: 2400; AAPL: 350.. Mostly 9% - 20% of estimated growth for this year. I see this, I expect this, and I understand this.

So I go through all of my holdings and If the Experts are right (which they won't be 100%) my portfolio will see like a 10-20% increase this year... but then there is ALIBABA current price is $216. Estimated price range is like 1400 - 1800 up almost 700% this year. I get that BABA is a huge holdings company. but for those of you who hold this stock, what are we expecting to happen to see growth this big? We have seen stranger things with rises in the thousands of percent over 5 years, and.. then there is TSLA. but is anyone here buying big into BABA and expecting huge profits?

Where can I see when companies go public?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 12:00 AM PST

I've heard that Celonis wants to go public this year and I want to make sure that I am on board from the very start - is there a web page or something that gives exact information on when companies are going public once they decided to do so?

Possible buy out? Amazon is rumored to be intrested in buying the streaming platforms of the wwe PPVs

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 12:14 PM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2020/02/07/do-you-smell-what-bezos-is-cooking-amazon-could-buy-the-wwe-analyst-predicts.html

"WWE's over-the-top streaming platform would be attractive to Amazon or other streaming services because it brings in a loyal fanbase, unlike new shows the companies are developing."

It would definitely bring more eyes to amazon streaming network and amazon prime membership would go up. But would that benefit wwe? Wwe tank nearly 25% after firing two high end executives and with a disaster quarterly reporter I putted it and made $2K last week. But it could go the other way now right?

So should I bet calls now?

    MSFT for first stock

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 09:28 PM PST

So I've been learning more about investing over the past couple of months.. and I feel I am ready to purchase my first stock. I am leaning more towards MSFT as it has seen steady growth recently, especially with it's recent govt contract and moving up in the cloud world. Plus good dividends and I've just always been a Microsoft fan since I was young. I'm not sure exactly how much I should buy at first though, or if I should wait for fractional shares to go live on my Fidelity app and I was thinking about dropping around $1000 on 5-10 different high market cap stocks (tsla, amzn, aapl, etc). I just feel with the recent growth of some of these companies now is as good a time as ever to at least get my foot in the door.

    Any input is greatly appreciated!

What are your thoughts on the Shopify stock this upcoming week?

TSLA: One Man's Valuation of Tesla

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 01:48 PM PST

    http://aswathdamodaran.blogspot.com/2020/02/a-do-it-yourself-diy-valuation-of-tesla.html?mc_cid=d60468097c&mc_eid=c181c94dc6

Rightly or wrongly this is one man's evaluation of Tesla. It caused him to sell on the first big jump to $640. He makes a great case for $427 (which is why he sold on its first rocket to $640) but has rewritten his valuation so that you can add up the parts and see what you come up with yourself.

Rather than be a crazy bull or bear, give us your thoughts on these projections and where you think they are too optimistic or to pessimistic. I have a couple of long dated put contracts at $500, so that may help you with my position.

    LYFT Earning?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:37 AM PST

Lyft is announcing the earning on 02/11 but it was up $2.50 thanks to Uber doing well. If it has already gone up pre-earning, people might sell when the earning comes out.

They are forecasting loss of $0.57 and not sure how investors will react to this.

    Currently toying with:

    Tesla: Political Beta Analysis

    Posted: 08 Feb 2020 10:25 PM PST

Here's an interesting explanation I found for Tesla's recent volatility (source: Quiver Quantitative):

Graph: Tesla Stock and Sanders' Election Odds

Given that this is an election year, one metric which we are tracking is how correlated every stock's performance is with the election probability of each of the presidential candidates. The proxy we used for a candidate's chance at being elected president in 2020 is PredictIt's prediction market, which allows users to buy or sell contracts on a certain candidate winning the election. From those transactions, we can find a market-determined probability of any candidate winning the election. We can then calculate the correlation between the daily change in each candidate's probability of being the next president of the United States and a stock's daily price change.

On daily data from June 2019 to December 2019, Tesla's stock price had a correlation coefficient of .557 with the probability of Bernie Sanders becoming president in 2021. This makes sense intuitively, given Sander's proposals to create a nationwide electric-vehicle-charging infrastructure and establish a grant program for the exchange of combustion vehicles for new electric cars. The past two months of data have supported this trend, as Tesla stock's surge has been mimicked by Sanders' surge in polling.

In fact, Tesla's drop on February 5th was almost perfectly pre-empted by the release of Iowa Caucus results on the evening of the 4th (after market hours) that showed Pete Buttigieg holding a lead over Sanders. We don't claim that election news was the sole cause of Tesla's 17% tumble on Wednesday (the announcement of a production delay from the company's Shanghai plant seems to offer a more direct explanation) but we do suggest it as one factor.

With the New Hampshire Democratic primary taking place on Tuesday, we will be interested to see if changes in Sanders' presidential hopes are reflected in Tesla's stock returns over the following days.

Why are AMD insiders not buying AMD stocks?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 02:13 AM PST

According to Nasdaq.com, not even one share of AMD was bought in the last 12 months by any AMD insider. On the other hand, almost 4 million shares were sold by insiders. In regard to Intel, 209,899 shares were bought by insiders while 569,121 shares were sold in the last 12 months. Because Lisa Su still has approximately 2.7 million shares, she has a lot to benefit from from AMD's bright future. However, does the fact that she or any of the insiders is not buying even one share show that the insiders believe that the current price or any price in the last 12 months is not realistic and cannot be sustained? What do you think of this phenomenon? I am just trying to figure out why the insiders show no enthusiasm toward their own company. If I were the CEO, wouldn't I buy more and more shares if I am so sure that my company will excel in various markets with superior products with much lower price tags?

    Stock discussion

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 07:55 AM PST

Hi. I use yahoo finance for stock news, conversations, earnings and analysis.

Does anybody know if there are notifications for chats that I participated in on the website? (not the app)

I find there is a lot of noise by shorters etc., so suggestions for other places are welcome, but I think it also forces some to come with the true arguments of why a company is good (to kill the noise), and it has worked out pretty well for me to use Yahoo finance.
