My ex has a restraining order against me and now lives in the same apartment complex Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:56 AM PST My Ex Wife and I had a rocky marriage, my alcoholism didn't help. She pushed for a divorce. We lived together during this divorce and one day I found out she was dating another man. I snapped and hit her, pretty hard. I was charged with assault, spent 3 months in jail, went to anger management and I was also issued a 3 yr restraining order. This was 2 yrs ago. I have since sobered up, met a wonderful woman and moved to a completely different apartment complex in a completely different part of the city and never had any further contact with my Ex Wife. I admit what I did was wrong, I paid the price, I've seen re-established myself. My current woman who I've been in a relationship with for 2 yrs is aware of this back ground story (which makes things slightly easier) Well unknown to me my ex moved into my apartment complex about 5 months ago with her now new husband (who had always lived here, I did not know this) I saw her in the lobby just before new years. She greeted me, I turned shocked and said hello. She asked me what I was doing in the lobby I said I was just coming in from work she told me that the restraining order is still in effect and I need to move out. I tried to reason with her and told her I'd be happy to steer clear of her, I know we don't live on the same floor (I don't even know what floor she lives on, I don't care to know) I told her if I saw her on an elevator I wouldn't get in and just wait for the next one. She told me she was going enforce the restraining order against me. My partner and I literally just signed a brand new 2 yr lease 6 months ago. We love the place we live in, and wouldn't want to move. And it feels unjust having to move/incur financial hardship because the person I had a restraining order against moved into my apartment complex. The reason why I'm bringing this up is cause last night building management was informed of the restraining order and told us we need to figure this out. Would she really be able to force me out of my home even though I lived here before her? As long as I do my best to avoid any contact with her (which I'm perfectly fine doing) shouldn't that be sufficient? I work a really early schedule and the fact is she was dating this guy and coming over to this apartment complex for the entire time I've been here, and we ran crossed paths, and she's been living here full time for 5 months and just recently crossed paths. Not sure what to do. FYI this is New York City [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2020 08:04 AM PST I got pulled over in Kansas City, Missouri for having expired tags. I'm a college student so my permanent residence is in Georgia, and I just neglected to get my tags extended for this time around. One officer asked for my license and proof on insurance so I gave my Georgia license and a card my USAA auto insurance had given me, unfortunately I think it was just a roadside support card but I was frazzled and hardly get pulled over. However, I'm covered by USAA, purchased my policy on 12/13/19. After a while another cop came up and stated they needed something with the vehicle information on it. I stated that insurance card was all I had, but then remembered that I had my USAA official proof of insurance and vehicle registration on my email and offered to pull that up for him on my phone. He DECLINED and wrote down my vehicle information, make, and model himself. Came back and stated he was giving me two tickets, one for the tags and one for failing to provide proof of insurance. I argued with him and said that I offered to pull it up, and he had declined. He said, "No, you offered to show me your registration." I had everything pulled up, proof of insurance and my vehicle registration which is through my USAA insurance, and showed it to him on my phone. Again, he refused to look at it. He told me that I have to go to the hearing to dispute the ticket. I tried arguing and he wouldn't budge, and kept telling me that I didn't offer to show him the correct thing, even though when I offered to show him the documentation, he didn't even bother to look at it. I'm going to go to the hearing and show I have proof of insurance and financial responsibility for the car, but the ticket says "Did fail to provide proof of financial responsibility for the vehicle they are operating upon demand of the police officer." Do I somehow have to prove that I offered to show this documentation and the officer refused in order to get the ticket excused or will providing my proof of insurance/financial responsibility in court be enough? Posted: 02 Jan 2020 07:27 AM PST I'm a home health nurse and for a while my boss has been wanting to discharge one of my patients because they aren't making money off of the patient. The type of insurance my patient has, my company has to supply the supplies for the wound and for a while my boss has made comments about getting rid of him because of the price of his supplies. For example one small box of his supplies costs around $600. And my boss says he is not worth keeping as a patient because they have to spend too much money on him and they aren't making any money off of him. She told me that at the start of the year she was going to work hard to get rid of him. I don't think this is right at all and am thinking of recording her the next time I go to get some of my patients supplies just in case. Is this legal for them to do? What can I or the patient do if they actually discharge him because of this? Edit: Location in Texas [link] [comments] |
Someone is making fake suicide alerts about my family and me (US—SC and GA) Posted: 02 Jan 2020 05:46 AM PST Sunday night I was fast asleep when cops started banging on my door (around 11:30pm). When I answered the door, the cops asked me what was going on. After a little back and forth, they said someone had texted a veteran's crisis line (I'm not a veteran) and said I was threatening to burn myself. The cops could quickly see there was no crisis situation. They asked me if I knew anyone in (my hometown). I let them know I grew up there. They then radioed headquarters and the woman confirmed the number associated with the text. Here's where it gets crazy—it was the phone number my mom used for years before she and my dad divorced and she moved away and changed her number. I love in SC and grew up in GA. Then on Tuesday morning, something very similar happened to my brother. He was at my dad's house for 20 minutes or so when the cops came and said someone had contacted a veteran's crisis line saying he was going to hurt himself. My bro showed the texts between us about what had happened to me. He didn't get more information about originating number or anything. My bro's legal address is my dad's since he lives in hotels for his job, but he was only there 20 minutes when the cops came (he was staying in a hotel while in town for the holidays). Coincidence that he was at my dad's or was someone watching?? I have three more siblings, they've not had anything happen. Lots of information about us comes up when you google my mom's old phone number. You could easily figure out where I live and where my dad lives. So my legal question....should I do something? If so, what?? Cops, lawyer?? One friend said that the person is probably going through a veteran's crisis line to avoid filing a false police report? Should I be worried? Is there anything my other siblings should do to protect themselves from some nut job calling authorities with fake suicide alerts? I'd appreciate any advice you guys have. My family is stumped as to why this is happening and what to do about it. Thanks!! [link] [comments] |
Movers pissed all over my things and intentionally delayed my move so I had to pay overtime Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:04 PM PST No this is not a joke post. Title is the Tl:dr- more details below.I was going to just let it go but the fact I need to get a professional cleaner and I've been ill due to this makes me think I should seek legal help. Advice on what I should do? Is this something a lawyer could help me with? I'm from Chicago, IL, USA (as laws usually depend on the area you are from). A couple months ago I moved to a new apartment a little less than half an hour away so I hired movers as I don't have a vehicle nor the physical strength to move everything on my own. Despite the name, which I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say, they actually send out three guys even if you don't have that much to move (I was moving my one bedroom from a shared apartment to a small studio apartment, the only big thing I have is my bed. Pretty much everything else even I, a scrawny girl, can carry). When the guys get there they start trying to take things from the living room and I stop them because those are my room mate's things. One guy seems to be in charge of the other two and immediately starts talking down to me which is difficult to deal with. I already have everything planned out and ready to go, and tell him the best way to save time is to get two guys disassembling the bed, and by the time they're done with that all the other things I have me and the other guy will have loaded. They only half listen, one guy is disassembling the bed and the other two loading up things. Eventually second guy joins first guy and I hear one of them muttering curse words in spanish like "puta" (bitch/whore), "pinche" (fucking). It was super unprofessional, but I let it go figuring he was probably just cursing at the bed that was difficult to manage, in context swear words like that were understandable I suppose and I just wanted to get this all done and over with as fast as possible. But then I heard him say "gordita". Gordita isn't a regular curse word, it means fat. I am not obese, but I do have a pear shape I'm self conscious about, and I'd heard enough to know he was talking abusively about me thinking I didn't understand. I didn't want to continue being abused and told him to stop it and I knew what he was saying. He was frozen in shock at first, realizing I understood him, but not knowing how much he got in my face asked me what I thought I heard. I told him I heard gordita enough times to know what it meant. He continued being abusive to me, saying he was talking about food and had I tried one? Maybe if I tried it I'd like it. No one is talking about food saying, "Fucking fat bitch." He continued to jeer at me repeatedly saying, "Maybe if you tried it you'd like it! Maybe if you tried it you'd like it!" Should I have just taken the abuse? I just wanted him to stop and this was going to absolute hell. They were almost ready to go with my things to my apartment, soon it would just be me and these three men alone in my new place where I knew no one. It was kind of scary. I tried to de-escalate the situation and asked they please just not talk about food anymore while we moved. So they leave for the new apartment with my things. I am having problems with my Uber app and after about ten minutes of frustration and worry I'm going to go over my time not being able to meet them when they get there I call a cab instead. The cab gets there in half an hour, it's a pretty straight shot to my new place. So I get there, and they're not there. Twenty minutes later, still no movers. I'm not sure if they got the wrong address, I left well after they did and was there before they were, so I called up the company who said they didn't know and they probably took a different route. Well over an hour after they left, and now with no way to make my original predicted time/price they show up. There's no reason they should have taken so long, the only thing I can imagine is they intentionally delayed so they'd get paid more and stiff me for more money, really what could I do in this situation. Everything got unpacked and I tipped them- I shouldn't have. I had planned to do it before they came, and in my mind was arguing I was being petty and maybe there was a legitimate reason I didn't know and intentionally only tipping two of the three seemed mean. In hindsight I shouldn't have as this whole situation was abusive, I was trying to be good and the bigger person but I was stupid in doing that. It wasn't until the next day I smelled it. All of my things smelled like piss. I had carefully washed nearly all my things before I moved as some of them were dusty and I wanted to move into my new apartment with nice clean things, so I know it happened after the things left my place. There is no other way the piss could have got there. I cleaned all my things, but the piss smell still remains. The second day after I came down with a lung infection I had to go to the doctor for and was very ill for weeks. I keep trying to find what I missed, I have cleaned with bleach and fabrise and everything but my apartment smells like piss because of what these men did to me. I had to go buy expensive medicine again for another lung infection, two prescription to treat it which weren't cheap. I'm going to need to get a professional cleaning service or just start throwing out my things which is also going to be expensive. Is there anything legally I can do to offset the costs? I tried contacting the company but they won't respond. I don't know if they think it's a joke or am hoping if they don't respond I'll go away. I don't have much evidence other than what I was originally quoted and my bank card being charged much more, along with one drawer that I recently found dried urine pooled on the underside of (there's more stink but it isn't visible like it is on my white drawer), and two doctor visits for my lung infections I got only after the move. Posted: 02 Jan 2020 06:13 AM PST My story I'm sure is not unique, but it's not something I've personally dealt with before. I was shopping for a used car this weekend. I found a good deal online on a "Certified Pre-Owned 2017 Kia Sportage". This is in quotes because this is exactly the description on the dealer's website as well as several third-party sites. Certified. In the headline and in several places in the description of the vehicle. There was even a flag on the vehicle when I got there: "Kia Certified Pre-Owned" The salesman and I negotiated a deal I was very happy with. I got to the finance guy's office and started signing papers. Just as I was signing the title, the finance guy says offhand "They did tell you it's not certified, right?" Record scratch. "No - it's Certified" - I pulled up the car on the dealer's website and showed the finance guy. He showed me a sales slip or something that had NO CERT in bold letters that had been hand written with a black sharpie. "No one said anything about it not being certified. See the website says certified and there's a flag on the car that says certified". "Oh it's probably just a mistake let me call the salesman and he can get it straightened out". Salesman comes into the office and tells me I'll have to pay an additional $900 if I want the certification. "No I will not pay that. The description of the vehicle says it is certified. Not that I can pay extra to have it certified. That's false advertising!" "Let me get my sales manager" Sales manager comes in. "When it says certified it means that it is able to be certified but you have to pay for that". "I won't pay for it. We had a deal. It says certified, we agreed on a price, there was no mention of an extra fee to have it certified. Because it says it's already certified". We went back and forth for a few minutes (truthfully I went full Karen on him) but it ended with me walking out without the car. Is it legal for them to describe a vehicle as "Certified" at the price listed, then tell me it's not certified unless I pay more? If it is illegal, who can I report them to? TLDR: Car dealer refuses to sell me vehicle as it's advertised unless I pay $900 more. EDITED TO ADD: I had signed the sales contract by this time. The only thing not yet signed was the title and my check for payment. [link] [comments] |
Bed Bugs found on my son at School, school is threatening to remove him (Wisconsin) Posted: 02 Jan 2020 08:24 AM PST This is happening in Wisconsin. Last fall, my 10 year old child was found to have a bed bug on his shirt at school. About the same time or shortly after, bugs were found on several other kids in the school. The principal and district staff immediately began measures to prevent bugs from entering the school, which includes having these kids change their clothes in the health room every day. No backpacks are allowed. Also all family members are not allowed to enter or exist the school building property. They claim these are precautions until they become confident the infestation problem has been resolved. On my end, I have hired a state licensed pest control company who has made three visits to my house since the infestation was reported. They performed chemical treatments in all rooms of the house each time. We have thrown out mattresses, pillows, bedding, etc. I have done everything I can in due diligence to resolve the issue. Yet somehow these damn bugs still appear now and then when the school inspects the kids in the morning. Today I received a letter from the school indicating that if bed bugs are continued to be found on my kid after holiday break, that they will no longer be allowed inside of the school. As they put it, they will later determine a new learning environment that will be used to educate him. Which is vague. I am looking for good advice on how to deal with the school on this. My son has a learning disability and I want to be sure he received the appropriate education. I also do not want him to be banned from school for something outside of his control. Any advice would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Amazon closed my account with money in it Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:53 PM PST Back in March I integrated amazon pay (it's a check out service provided by amazon) on my website. It worked great for a month. In April, I had just under 5,000 USD in my amazon seller account waiting to be paid out all from sales on my website. Then suddenly I could no longer log into my amazon account. No email, no mail, no phone call regarding to why I can no longer access my amazon. I've called several times have spent countless hours on phone with support all I get each time is your account is under review from our investigation department... anyways it's 2020 now going on 8 months now and it's the same response I'm not sure what investigation is going on but they sentenced el chapo faster than this and I want my money. I'm sure my options are limited since I'm up against such a giant in amazon but what should be my course of action? All the merchandise was already shipped out so not only am I out the 5k, I'm out on all my merchandise cost too (about 2000 usd) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 02 Jan 2020 07:59 AM PST This whole family history is messy, but I will try to limit extra details – I want to prep on speaking to a lawyer on contesting my grandmother's will through lack of testamentary capacity or undue influence on behalf of my father (from what I've read about contesting wills, anyways!). I intend on making an appointment through military legal assistance (as a spouse) to point me in the right direction, so any thoughts on going that route would be super helpful too. Background: My grandfather died about 15 years ago. Shortly after, my grandmother moved to the same property as my parents, then to a small house down the street a few years later, which my dad took two years off of regular work to renovate. My parents took care of her for at least ten years. While she was physically independent in terms of taking care of herself hygienically and short errands – she was reliant on my mom for every doctor's appointment, ailment, and procedures as my grandmother is a hypochondriac who often distorts or withhold information (such as saying that she "doesn't have high blood pressure because she takes a medication for that"). Just as reliantly, she was dependent on my father for every household need, and due to her loneliness, she would often call my father at inappropriate times saying that something was an emergency, even if it wasn't. My father often worked odd hours, so she saw his schedule as being flexible to her needs. When she moved down the street, it was to a shell of a house. Financially, my grandmother paid for her house and some of the materials – but my parents sank my mother's inheritance and countless hours of their own labor in renovations. While things were not stellar for my parents, they were strong, in relatively good health, and were the most well equipped of my grandparent's offspring to care for my grandmother (as my aunt's financial situations are all disastrous), and did so dutifully and without help from my dad's siblings – even when my mother asked for help with extended care when my grandmother had a procedure on several occasions. But everything was manageable, and somehow my parents raised two kids through high school while being more involved than most parents (which I am more now than ever, eternally grateful for). In 2015, my grandmother suffered from a series of mini strokes. My mother handled intake and ICU, and my aunts flocked to Texas a few days later. Immediately, my eldest aunt (who tends to be a bit overbearing and, as she suffers from several medical conditions, considers herself to be an expert) demands to speak to doctors, nurses, see her entire medical history, and interrogate my poor mother, who speaks English as her second language, and inserts herself as being in charge of her medical care. To my aunt's credits, they all took turns staying for the first few weeks to help care for their mother, and then the caregiving duties again fell to my parents, with limited means for at home services, care, and now, independent transportation. As they live in a somewhat rural area, there are no public transportation services and Uber was still years from reliable service there. Several months of rehab later, the eldest aunt is accusing my parents of not taking enough care of my grandmother by taking her to more intensive rehabs - and the argument escalates to how my parents are "stripping my grandmother of her independence" by not allowing her to drive. After nearly a year of back and forth and accusations, my aunt decides to take my grandmother to Arizona for an extended period, and ultimately, my sister and I decided that it was best for her to not be in the care of my parents, as over the last couple of years, their health had been declining and her increasing care and lack of support became an emotional and physical burden. Since then, she has been in my eldest aunt's care, who has claimed power of attorney and I suspect has been draining some of my grandmother's funds for renovations and (for sure) a new car. This would all be fine except for the matter of her house in Texas. When it was purchased, my grandmother decided that in order to make things "fair" for the kids, my father would not receive a monetary inheritance, but the house – with the stipulation in the deed that he could not sell it "until she dies". This was executed before all of the hours and dollars of renovations that my parents did out of their own pockets and labor. After it was decided that she would remain in Arizona, my dad began fixing the house to start renting it out. My aunts fought this by saying that the house needed to be back in my grandmother's name for "her independence", and in the event that her stocks and other assets run out due to medical care (they did not suggest that he would be added back to the will during this). When my father refused, my aunts further interfered by calling entities including and not limited to:
Despite these hurdles (and complete avoidance of my aunts), my dad has been able to rent out the property for a few years, but recently, due to health issues that resulted in him not being able to work this past year – he had to short sell the property in order to avoid foreclosure on his own house. However, due to the stipulation in the deed, my dad had to spend a lot of time, money for counsel, and literally beg for my aunt/grandmother's permission to sell the property. Ultimately my eldest aunt and grandmother agreed – IF he gave them a percentage of the sale AFTER all closing costs, taxes, and fees. For some background for this background: my grandfather was incredibly financially savvy, invested in savings and stocks consistently starting from a young age, and had a good stable job with retirement. After his death, no assets were given to the children as my grandmother was still alive. My father has no idea what is at stake financially, and my grandmother has been holding the promise of their "inheritance" over everyone's head as my aunts bicker at one another about it for years - even bringing it up to my sister and I as kids. Now that I'm in a position to save for my own future and see my own financial projections, I'm wondering how short of a stick my dad ended up with due to his lack of education on finances, and what my options are to try to make it right, despite my aunts best efforts. As my grandmother has been gradually suffering from dementia for several years, my aunt has completely vilified my father. In her eyes - she's convinced that living with my family was actually to their benefit, and not any kind of burden, and that our family only "cared for her as an investment to claim her house". In her state of mind, I feel that there is no option to convince her that my dad should be written back into the will, and to prepare to contest her will when the time comes. TLDR; Dad got left out of his parents will as he would "get a house" in return. He had to sell the house and give a percentage to his siblings (who remain in the will). Grandma has dementia, and his siblings are manipulative, so I feel like the best route would be to prepare to contest her will. I want to know how to prepare to speak with military legal assistance (as a spouse), and any thoughts regarding this situation. A very sincere thanks for any insight, y'all! Edited with an update from my dad: apparently the stipulation was in the deed, and she just put a line through his name and initialed/dated it in the will. Since it's been over 10 years, and she has been in the care of my eldest aunt now, I'm sure she could have had another one drawn up that specifically leaves him out, but if not, is that enough to say that he's intentionally left out of the will? If she's had another one drawn up in the last couple of years while being in the care of my aunt, could this be considered undue influence? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:21 AM PST The small company's owner is a moron and I didn't get paid last week. I was the only one that didn't get paid, but this week we still don't have enough money and it doesn't look like anyone is going to get paid this week. I know I need to file a wage claim and look for a new job, but hear me out. I'm not 100% sure, and I can't find it anymore, but I believe I read that you must work at the same place for 1 quarter (3 months/90 days) in order to receive unemployment benefits in Maryland. For me, that day is Tuesday of next week. I have a couple questions:
Again, I know I need to get out asap and file a wage claim. I've been unemployed before and was not eligible for benefits because I left on my own terms, so I'm just trying to cover my ass because living off of savings is a blower. There is also some other shady shit going down here and I'm trying to get out. This 90 day thing is literally the only thing holding me back at this point. Thanks for any help [link] [comments] |
My manager is requesting documentation for one "Sick day" Posted: 02 Jan 2020 05:16 AM PST Background: I work in the automotive industry. Lately, a few of my coworkers have been taking advantage by taking off work for being "sick." Now, I am at home with a nasty cold and my boss is asking for documentation. There of course will not be any documentation because I am taking regular cold meds, eating chicken soup, and resting. What should I do? Thanks. Edit: Sorry everyone . Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:37 PM PST I gave my neighbor a vehicle 1 year ago. I completed all the proper forms and submitted the bottom of the title to the Missouri DMV informing them I was giving up the title. Last week he told me he never transferred the title and wants me to notarize a bill of sale to his sister for $100. I think he has legal issues he didn't tell me about which is why he doesn't want to have the vehicle in his name. If I get involved and fill out a bill of sale to a third party after previously submitting that I was gifting the same vehicle, am I committing a crime? - I submitted a notice of sale 1 year ago - The vehicle is not registered to me - The vehicle no longer appears on my local personal property tax I don't want to get wrapped up in mail fraud charges or something. False alcohol positive on the lab test for pretrial services. Posted: 02 Jan 2020 10:56 AM PST I get tested for drugs and alcohol for my conditions for release on my bond, and one of my screens came back positive for alcohol. I have had 0 alcohol or drugs since I got out of jail, and I have no idea why this would have happened. Will I get arrested for this? And is there any way I can fight this? They told me they sent my urine into the lab and the lab test showed up positive for alcohol, but I also get drug screens in the out patient rehab program I'm in and none of them show me having any alcohol in my system. This is very frustrating and I feel helpless. Edit: I went and got a hair follicle test and got a litigation affidavit so when that shows up clean I can prove my innocence [link] [comments] |
Landlord is falsely accusing me of smoking weed in apartment. Posted: 02 Jan 2020 10:31 AM PST Hey guys, I moved into my apartment about 4 months ago, all has been good until about a month ago when I got an email stating that the neighbors were complaining about the smell of weed coming from my apartment, this is a smoke free complex and this is my first warning. I emailed back saying I do not smoke and I've smelled weed in the hallway once but that was it, my apartment does not smell anything like weed, and I'd be willing to let them come inspect if they'd like. Last week the entire building got an email saying they still are getting complaints and that they will be performing inspections with no further notice. Today while I was at work I got an email saying they entered my apartment and the bathroom smells like weed, this is my final warning and if complaints continue I will be evicted with 30 days notice. I am going to talk to them in person today, what is my best course of action? I do not smoke weed and never have, I know my apartment doesn't smell like weed and everyone that I've had over confirms this as well. I think it is either one of the other neighbors and they are trying to pin it on me, as the new tenant, or rent has gone up $100 since I moved in and they're trying to chase me out to get in a tenant paying the new price. Every other interaction I've had with them has been great, but this is getting annoying and now looks serious. Any help is much appreciated. EDIT: This is in St Louis, MO. [link] [comments] |
My roommate has been letting people stay in my room while I’m gone. I have a camera in the room. Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:35 PM PST I am in NYC. I have a camera in the room I am renting. My roommate has let two people (on two different occasions) whom I don't know stay in my room without my consent. I have been gone for two weeks and will be gone for two more. What can I legally do? If the camera is illegal I'll talk to her about it and not tell her how I know and just tell her to not be a shit bird when I'm gone. If it's legal, I'll show her the footage and tell her I'm not paying that months rent. My biggest concern is the one month security deposit she is holding. Additionally, there are a few times where the guest is changing in front of the camera. Please keep in mind this is my room that I pay rent for that she has no permission from me to be in. I am a sub renter, she is the lease signer. I am not acquainted with the owner. I appreciate any advice. Edit: this wasn't my intent, but when the door of my room is open, the camera peaks a little (4 sqft) into the hallway which is not my space. Does this affect any legality? [link] [comments] |
My brother was hit by a car while crossing the road this morning. Posted: 02 Jan 2020 11:24 AM PST In Michigan. He was walking across the street at a 4- way intersection. He had the right of way; The truck turned left and hit him, like in this mockup: It was a hit and run. So far we know that my brother's upper leg bone was broken and requires surgery. He also fractured one of his fingers, and had a concussion and multiple abrasions. He does not have any insurance, but someone at the hospital said they would try to sign him up for Medicaid. However if he cannot get that then of course there will be bills to be paid.It happened in the early morning (night shift), so the officer on the scene is not available at the moment. I will try to get a hold of him tonight, as I am not sure if they found the driver and the police station said the report won't be available for 3 days. However, I am trying to get some advice before my mother jumps the gun on this. -Should we look for a Personal Injury Lawyer? Or a regular lawyer would be fine? -If the person was working when this happened, does that change anything? -If they did not find the person who did this, where do we go form there? Thank you for any advice! [link] [comments] |
(VA) Apartment complex was silently purchased, is my lease still locked down with the new company? Posted: 02 Jan 2020 12:41 PM PST I signed for my new lease in November (this is my 3rd year now) and absolutely love where I am and the people that were running the place. I went on a vacation the same month and when I came back the entire team that was working at my complex was gone and I discovered through rumors that another company had come in and bought out the complex. Since the swap over this new management company clearly brought their "C team" because it's been a shit show. I can go into some details of what now seem like smaller items but the most recent one that just took place is I was billed for 2 months rent at a staggering hit of $4,150 to my checking account because of an IT error. I'm not sure how to approach asking for some kind of compensation as I don't feel it's fair to give them a short term loan interest free and that money is going to be locked up for x number of days while they try to reverse their goof. Either way I'm at the point that I am disappointed with everyone from concierge, leasing, all the way to maintenance and I'm open to getting the hell out but I'm not sure if I have any ability to do this since I made my contract decision based on certain expectations that are no longer secure. Help! My Neighbour grew a WEED farm using my energy and left me with the bill! Posted: 02 Jan 2020 05:48 AM PST The Background info I'm a science student living in Maastricht, a city in the south of The Netherlands. I'm British but recently graduated my bachelor degree here in science and engineering and am currently working full time in between studies to save up enough funds to do a masters. For my studies in Maastricht I lived in a lovely but run down student house with a pretty lax landlord. Shortly after I joined the house the housemate looking after the energy bill left so I took the energy bill into my name . The house had a courtyard which had access to other rooms which where attached to the same building and were formerly used by a man, E. E had a buisness on the property and used these rooms mainly as a small office space and thus he always contributed to the energy bill but only one share of an equally divided amount. Almost as soon as I took the bill over, the landlord (without notifying anyone) gave E the permission to move into those office spaces and use it as an actual living area. In doing so the landlord didn't provide a new energy meter and I noticed the surge in the energy usage by the house. At this point I and other housemates started asking the landlord to provide a separate meter for the new living space as in that space was now, E his girlfriend and their newborn. The landlord kept insisting that it was E's responsibility to place the new meter and that he was nagging him to do it but months went by and nothing happened. One of the other issues was that it was already hard enough to get money from E as is was quite aggressive and most of the housemates were scared of him already which we also told the landlord. Furthermore, it was common knowledge that E was growing a hemp farm somewhere in the property. Not only did he speak about it openly, but the police were notified previously and turned up at the door in full amour equip with bodycams trying to find it, but E had been tipped off and so had moved it. This was all communicated to the landlord who did nothing in response The Bill Roughly a year after taking the energy contract into my name I receive the end of year bill of a very large sum of money that is almost unfeasible to have used in addition to what we already paid per month. After speaking to the energy company they advised me that this volume of energy usage is often seen with hemp farms. I again raised the issue with my landlord who refused to take any responsibility and suggested I go to the police or perhaps ask E for the money. This was humorous coming from him as the he had to send debt collectors to E get a couple months of rent from him he hadn't paid. I went to the police and made a report about the hemp farm but they didn't action anything. I've since moved from the property into a new house. I also sought after legal help and paid a lawyer who after months of work has advised me that they would be unable to make my landlord liable for the full amount in court and that due to the contract. What he has done isn't illegal however he has acted as a bad landlord, which may not be enough to hold him liable for more than a small amount of the cost. In addition, what would have taken care of the bill would have been if the police had found the hemp farm themselves however they didn't and so there is no proof of the hemp farm aside from the huge bill. The Current Situation My current situation is that I've paid money for my lawyer who unfortunately is telling me that if I take my case to court that I could easily suffer more of a loss. My parents don't have the money to help me and I paid my way through university by working part time so I don't have any savings that could help me. Aside from all this, it's not even energy I used which makes it all the more frustrating, and the previous years end of year bill was nowhere near this amount but according to the lawyer it still isn't enough to be used to make the landlord fully liable. If I end up having to pay this bill I won't be able to afford to do my masters which I'm trying to save for. Financial matters aside this has been one of the most stressful and isolating situations I've ever been in and not a day goes by that this bill isn't hanging over me and its taking its toll on my mental health. I used to enjoy spending more time with friends and collogues but much of my time is now spent in bed feeling drained, and scared to spend money in case of the event that I need to start forking out money for this bill and am left with nothing. I have also set up a go fund me but not sure if I would be allowed to post it here, so I haven't. Help of any kind would be greatly appreciated and thankyou for taking the time to read this. Neighbor trying to start something Posted: 02 Jan 2020 09:50 AM PST [Florida, USA] About 2 weeks ago, my neighbors got into a knock-down drag out fight in front of our apartment complex. Choking each other, banging their heads against the concrete, the whole nine yards. I got scared and called the cops because no one was out there trying to break it up, and I didnt want to be witness to a murder. Somehow, they found out I called the cops despite requesting to remain anonymous on the call. Ever since, they have been making loud, ambiguous threats about me in front of other neighbors. Whenever I'm out walking my dog, they purposely try to jump out and scare her, I'm guessing to try and make her bite them. Whenever I ask what the fuck they simply respond "if your dog bites me, we're gonna have a problem." What the fuck do I do? I'm not sure if I'm able to do anything since they haven't technically done anything to me. I've complained to my apartment complex, and they said they cant do anything. I really regret calling the cops but I was scared they were really gonna hurt each other. Thanks in advance. Will be happy to answer any follow-up questions if this seems unclear. Edited to add location. [link] [comments] |
Dealership won’t send paperwork for new car Posted: 02 Jan 2020 07:57 AM PST This is in Miami, FL. Basically, I bought a new car a little over a month ago from a pretty big dealership. It was a disorganized mess and they claimed they didn't know how to work with my bank for financing, so it took hours for them to process the paperwork for me to drive off the lot. I left with the car, and thought all was well and started planning for my first car payment. About two weeks after, my bank called and said they needed additional documents from the dealer to finalize the financing. They said they called the dealership the maximum number of times allowed by company guidelines (3 times). I was told the dealer was aware of what was needed and promised to take care of it, but they never did. I called three times in the following week, and got the same line from the dealership. Then, I went in person. I was told, again, they would send it. I was given a guarantee. Now, it's been 5 weeks and the dealership still hasn't sent proper paperwork. My financing terms expire in two weeks if the dealership doesn't send the paperwork. The bank says they would have to run my credit again and start a new application if they receive the paperwork or a request for payment from the dealership once the terms expire. The dealership hasn't called me or the bank for payment. So, what do I do? Do I enjoy what appears to be a free, new car? What are the chances the dealership will request the funds after it expires? What can I do in that case to avoid another credit pull? [link] [comments] |
Is yelp scamming small businesses or is it legal? Posted: 02 Jan 2020 01:21 PM PST I recently started a small catering company in los angeles and signed it up on Yelp. I was offered freed as for a month, I tried it and was charged. I was upset, and immediately ended it. A month later I received calls from Yelp. Saying that they were sorry for the inconvenience and that they were going to help me. I made it clear I didnt have money and did not want to pay anymore for anything else. The guy assured me he would update my page and call me within 3 days and that nothing would be charged. Two weeks later I still hadn't heard back, and my page didnt have anything new, matter of fact he added a few lines, which I removed. I was so upset. But then I saw my account had been charged, now, over $1,000! Now I was furious. I didnt even know there was a card on file. I called yelp and they are acting stupid. They said that only I can approve and make those changes he made. I never approved anything to be charged and they refuse to issue a refund and that guy will not respond to any point of contact. Is this legal. The guy straight misled me, he lied to me, then he posted lies on my site and yelp is refusing to issue a refund. Also I received 0 business for during this time,~1.5 months. Is this legal or scam? Can this be a class action suite? I've read multiple reviews of similar experiences. Who should I speak to if there is something to be done? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Got fired for telling work I had discovered I have Arthritis and I have no idea what to do. Posted: 02 Jan 2020 02:52 AM PST Hello Reddit, sorry if I'm a bit over the place because this happened today and I am a bit shaken. Ok so, I have been working at a new place for a few months using forklifts and picking and other warehousing things (even though I was hired for forklift work only). I have had a lot of back issues and recently at a doctor appointment I was told I have Arthritis in my spine and only physio will help. After finding out this when I went to work today I told them about it and was just asking for a bit of help to avoid picking since it hurts my back. I was told how I was a liability and that I will probably will be fired, and later tonight I was informed I lost my job. I don't understand how or why, my health has never impacted my work and I had always strived to perform well and I was told I was doing extremely well and they were happy with my progress until today. So I am employed as a casual, and am from South Australia. I have no idea what to do, should I contact Fair work, should I contact anyone else? Are they even allowed to do this? I'm so lost and hopefully someone can help. Edit: Was employed in South Australia, while I live in SA too. [link] [comments] |
