Hit my yearly target. Can't stop smiling. Sales and Selling

Hit my yearly target. Can't stop smiling.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:33 AM PST

My friends, it's been a long road. I've been in tech sales (hardware, Proserv, and now SaaS) for 10 years. I've hit my quota in every year but one, when I was fired from a company you've definitely heard of after the worst year of sales in my life two years ago.

But I am back on top. Hit quota yesterday for the year, have 3 more likely deals that if any one of them close I am a lock for club (but I won't count those eggs until they hatch of course), and I am back to loving sales again. There's nothing like seeing a deal that you've been working on for months, getting to each new division/manager and turning them into a champion, and finally seeing it close.

I thought I was done with sales two years ago. Thought I was bad at this, thought I should learn to code or something (seriously I took classes). But I am glad I stuck with it. I've learned so much, still have a long way to go, but it's the best job in the world when everything is clicking.

To my compatriots at quota, raise a glass for our success. To my friends still fighting, keep going you got this. And to my brothers and sisters that are struggling-things DO get better. There are other companies, other positions, other jobs, and even other potential customers and options in the current job. Get the experience needed, learn the lessons, make connections and stay positive, because- IT. DOES. GET. BETTER.

    Here's to a great 2020 everyone!

Tips for a new sales manager

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:28 AM PST

    Team,

Going from top performing rep to leading a team of 10 reps. I'll still produce, but will also be responsible for the performance of the team and team quota attainment.

I am less interested in general leadership advice. I led large teams in the Marines, so I feel that is covered.

What I am looking for is sales leadership-specific advice. Things like: how does my perspective need to change? What are things I need to consider as a manager versus an individual contributor? (Ie, strategy) How do you go about working with and improving low performers?

    TIA!

    Repeatable Processes

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 01:49 AM PST

I've been working in sales for over 10 years and have found that the key to success is repeatable processes & the beauty of sales is that everyone has their own. I'm interested if any individuals would be willing to share their daily work routine.

Going from AE to Enterprise BDR-tips?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 06:49 AM PST

    Hello Reddit Sales community!

I accepted a job at a dream company, one of the biggest software companies in the world. This has been my goal since I got into tech based sales about 4 years ago. As a young woman in tech and sales, I couldn't be happier and the company and product I'll be working with really feel like a perfect fit for myself and my experience.

I completed full cycle sales for my both internet brand companies I have worked for previously. Despite previously holding an AE title, I still view this transition as a lateral one due to the caliber of company and that I will be working within the enterprise space. Plus significant raise in base. It was a no brainer, really.

I do feel like this is going to be a bit of an adjustment for me however. Used to always closing closing closing, and not as much of the hunting. I would love anyone's tips in changing mentality and work flow when going from a full cycle sale to a BDR role. Anything helps. Thanks!

What i've learned from inside sales - B2B

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 07:18 AM PST

Context: 8 months new to inside sales--small business, industrial parts

    1. The customer hardly cares how much a part costs. If it works for their application, they need it. It's not their money anyway, and the costs will get passed on to their customer.
    2. Avoid small talk, everybody is busy including myself.
    3. The phone is the quickest method of communication. Don't email if you can call somebody.
    4. When I call somebody about their purchase order & I have to talk to the gatekeeper I say "Hi this is so and so with X company, i need to speak to John smith about his purchase order. There is a part out of stock." I never get questioned.

On the other hand, when I am gatekeeping from outside sales folk, here are mistakes I see that I immediately shut down:

    1. Hi this is so and so with X company, HOW ARE YOU?" -- if they ask how i am doing, that is the first red flag. My time is wasted by telling you how I am doing. Let me know your business before you give me a chance to speak.
    2. "Who is the decision maker?" -- I will hang up shortly after.
    3. If you sound like you are not busy and don't know what to say on the phone, then I can tell you are prospecting.

This is how you get by me with a simple open:

    1. "Hi I'm John with X company. I need to speak to Larry about ______, please." If you say this in a confident voice with dead silence after your last word, that is usually enough.
    2. "Hi so and so from your company told me to give them a call, do you know if they are around?"
    3. "Hi i'm working on a purchase order from X person in your company, and there is a part out of stock. Can i speak to him?

What to expect as a Porter or Lot Attendant?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 11:01 AM PST

Not sure where to post this, but I was just hired as a Lot Attendant at my BMW dealership. From what I know and have seen, I'll be doing things from moving cars on the lot, between dealerships, and fueling when they need it. But what little stuff can I expect, I assume my spot is like the bottom of the totem pole at a car dealership. They told me if I stay long enough they would love to have me learn about sales aswell and work my way to being a sales assistant and eventually a salesman.

For skinny men with busy schedules wanting to gain weight

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 09:16 AM PST

    Hello everyone,

I'm about to start my own small business as a coach for skinny men with busy schedules. I'm helping people gain weight, build muscle and become healthier. But first, I'd like to find one or two more test clients for a free strategy session.

The thing is, I'm not sure how exactly to find those people online. I've been posting some helpful stuff on my FB profile and tried to talk to people in weight gain groups but it didn't get much engagement. Do you guys have some ideas I can work with on finding specifically skinny people?

PS: I know it's more of a marketing question but I think salespeople can give me a different angle on this one.

Thanks ahead and have a great day :)

We are industrial suppliers along with professional services.

    Resources for selling to Retailers

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 02:57 AM PST

    Hi all,

I am switching companies and taking on the sales lead at a little start up next month. I have about ten years of sales experience but the biggest challenge for me is that I will now mostly selling products to retailers, instead of end users.

So my main goals will be to increase in store sales and to on board new retailers.

Does anyone know of some good resources I could use to learn about pricing models (wholesale vs retail, what percentages to give at what volume levels). Or good strategies to improve in store performance? How to create in- store marketing materials or trainings ect.

    Thanks!

    Meeting scheduling solution

    Posted: 07 Dec 2019 05:58 AM PST

Hi all. I'm looking for a solution for myself to allow me to schedule appointments (virtual and face to face) that cuts down on back and forth emails with internal users and customers. I dont want a free one but rather one with advanced features. Thinking of something like ScheduleOnce, NeedToMeet, etc.

I have a personal paid subscription to Zoom and use both Outlook and Gmail Suite.

What do people use and what would they recommend?

    Working for yourself in Sales?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 11:09 PM PST

What's one thing you could go and do (accepting all answers nothing to big or too small) that you can go out right now and try and sell, door to door. If I weren't trying to work for anyone and wanted to do this on the side......

Got written up, curious on your thoughts

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 07:27 PM PST

So I work for an auto group. Now I can only sell new brands that the store I work at sells. However we sell many brands, and all of our leads get cross marketed automatically by my auto group.

And sometimes I get leads that want brands that I don't sell so over the past many months I've reached out to reps in different stores that sell different brands within my auto group and made referral deals.

Basically if I get a lead on a brand I'll first of course try and sell them what I have, because thats obviously worth more money to me but if I can't I'll refer them to whichever rep sells the brand that they want that I have a referral deal with. A few of my co-workers saw me doing this, and I made deals with them where if they gave me a lead from a different brand that they don't sell I'll refer that lead and split the referral fee. Over the last few months its started to represent a pretty sizeable chunk of money ($1,000~ a month in referral fees to me)

My management caught wind and they told me that if I get a lead on a brand that I can't sell I need to just send it back up the line to be reassigned and I said "No I don't work for free, I want money" this wasn't well received and to be frank I didn't and still don't care. Which I made plainly clear. I then told management they should simply allow us to sell all BRANDS regardless of what store I work at. They said no, and I need to follow policy and I said I won't.

So life went on and I did what I was always going do and that's refer leads of brands that I can't sell to people that can sell them and make referral fees.

Well today I got written up and told I need to stop, I told them I won't stop, they said if I don't stop I may need to find another job and I said they can fire me and I'll be working at their competitor by Monday (in the car world getting a job is stupid easy) they said "We don't need to go that far" and I was told to go back and work and I did.

    Thoughts?

Advice: How to Find a qualified partner/director of sales for our successful business

    Posted: 06 Dec 2019 10:45 PM PST

Hey Guys- can anyone help with ideas for us to find a qualified person to help gear up and grow our Automotive Hail Repair business? We are seeking someone to come in for an equity position to help fuel our expansion. We have been in the industry for over 25 years and want to expand into other markets/geo's in 2020. To give you an idea of the opportunity: An average hail damaged vehicle brings in around $5k gross, with our sales people making 10-25% of the gross of each vehicle. It is a global industry with more business each and every year. Any direction/ advice is appreciated.
