Uber CEO: ‘We are very, very, very different from WeWork’

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:55 AM PST

    https://www.cnbc.com/2019/11/06/uber-ceo-we-are-very-very-very-different-from-wework.html

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi defended the company's business at The New York Times' DealBook Conference Wednesday.

Khosrowshahi said Uber's core ride-hailing business should shield it from experiencing a fate like WeWork.

The stock has been under pressure recently as Uber's post-IPO lockup is set to expire and it reported more than $1 billion in net losses during the third quarter.

How do you know If Its going to move?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:06 AM PST

Hello! I'm trying to get started day trading here and there but I have one big issue, How can you know if it will move? For example, Diversified Restaurant Holdings, INC (SAUC) merged with ICV Partners, and the stock flew up 119%! But it begs the question, how do you know that? Do they announce it the night before? Is there some kind of place you can find the information so you would know that this is happening? Any ideas would be helpful! Thank you!

Increase position on CSCO or buy into CVS?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:40 AM PST

I don't have too much to buy with atm. I can either buy 5 more shares of CSCO for a little more than 8, or buy 3 of CVS. This is in a brokerage account I use for long term holds to supplement both a ROTH IRA and a 401k.

    Which would you buy?

    The SPCE race

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:52 AM PST

Wondering what peoples thoughts are on Virgin Galactic's listed company? They had their first rating yesterday at a Buy with a $20 PT. I got in a little high but have been averaging down. Company currently only working on space flight but I believe over time they could get some government contracts or maybe even develop new aircraft for travel.

Is it a buy or sell?

Am I the only that feels everything is overpriced and building cash?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:40 PM PST

I've been sitting in cash and building a reserve for the past 4-5 months; sitting in some bonds as well.

I'm feeling fomo but all the valuations are hitting record levels everyday. I've seen this type of activity before the last recession.

Does anyone else feel this way?

Skyworks (SWKS) releases earnings Nov 12

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:19 AM PST

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/analysts-estimate-skyworks-solutions-swks-153203799.html

They are expected to deliver a year-over-year decline in earnings on lower revenues when it reports result. But as the article suggests that may change depending on the actual results. The stock may go higher if actual beats estimate. Earnings to be released November 12.

The stock has been on a gradual incline the past few days. They produce semiconductors for various cell phone companies, among other devices and electronics. They will produce semiconductors for 5g applications as well.

I'm thinking the predicted decline in earnings is due to the current decline of 4g needs. The stock should increase when 5g becomes more mainstream.

    Thoughts?

Hi guys, I’m a 17 year old wanting to learn about stocks from scratch and need help.

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 09:50 PM PST

I'm currently 17 years old and since my work load is a lot less this week I want to learn how to "dabble" in stocks. I currently know basically next to nothing about stocks for example day trading vs other kinds of trading, what are indexes, how stocks go up or down, what apps to use or just do it by my self, or even WHAT stocks are. Are there any books that start from scratch and go in depth later on? Any help would be appreciated.

    Analyze My Portfolio?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 01:16 PM PST

Feeling like my portfolio is a little stuck lately compared to the index and wondering if people have opinions:

    Amazon - 30%

    Waste Management - 30%

    Comcast - 20%

Apollo Commercial REIT (ARI) - 16%

    Beyond Meat - 3%

I've got plenty of liquidity because I don't have a lot of faith in the market. I've been buying dips - like WM at the moment. Initiated my BYND stake after earnings hit - will buy another round if it hits 76. Amazon seems stuck. ARI is generally stuck, but it pays a 10% div.

    Any thoughts? Stay the course?

LIVONGO health stock down 10% before earnings.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:49 PM PST

So this is a pretty small stock... could this be insider trading before earnings announcement this evening, or is this just explained by bearish sentiment before the announcement? Thanks! I don't understand why it would've gone up a lot the last two days and down a ton today... did people just change their mind all of a sudden?? Thanks for any input!!!

Should I sell today, and reinvest when the etf's dip a bit? I'm reading so much about how they are at all time highs and am afraid the market is due for a correction sooner rather than later.

Am I looking at this all wrong? Noob investor here

Good time to invest in heavily down Marijuana stock for long term?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 06:19 AM PST

I recently closed my positions in ACB and CGC cause I couldn't stand to look at the -50% value the stocks have had since I purchased them. I did just invest 500$ into MJ and am thinking about investing another 1k in ACB, CGC and TLRY again since they've gone even lower now. I am very new to investing and my position would be to hold long term 5-10 years if not more. Any thoughts on this move/marijuana stocks in general?

How does dividend re-investing work in Fidelity?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:25 AM PST

Hi! I've been watching some youtube videos to learn about dividend investing.

Specifically this guy uses a brokerage which has a neat automatic re-investing feature that let's you set your percentage breakdown goals by sector/industry and then specific company/stock within that sector/industry. Then it just takes the dividends you've earned and any transferred funds and automatically reinvests in a way that moves you towards your percentage breakdown goals. Another cool thing about M1 is that it allows you to purchase a fraction of a stock and get the fractional dividends.

Since my s.o. works for an asset management company (in the "technology department") I have to follow their rules of which brokerages to use. I am using Fidelity for both my IRA and taxable investment portfolio. I was using a newer brokerage before but now I've pulled it all out and I'm starting fresh in Fidelity. At least Fidelity has started commission free trades to compete with these newer brokerages.

My goal is to mimic the automatic reinvesting that M1 does.

I've found the settings page where I can control how dividends are used and there are 2 options:

    1. automatically re-invest in the fund/stock where the dividend came from
    2. put the dividends in the... I'll just call it the "holding account" that I transfer my external funds to to make trades.

    Here are my questions:

    • Are the automatically re-invested dividends purchasing fractional shares? Is it different if it's a fund vs a single security?
    • To try mimicking M1's percentage breakdown goals automatic dividend re-investing feature in Fidelity, does it make more sense to let the dividends reinvest into the company they came from or does it make more sense to have to dividends go into the holding account? Just wondering if there is any "loss" between these two options.
    • Is it possible to purchase a fractional share in Fidelity? Doesn't look like it online, but could I call them and have them do it for me?
    • Is it possible to redirect my dividends to purchase a fractional share of another company's stock? If so does it have to be a stock that I already own?

The differences that I can think of are that I'd have to wait for the holding account to accrue to a certain value before I can purchase another full stock before purchasing one myself. So if Fidelity is automatically and immediately re-investing at fractional shares, then I think it would make more sense to let the dividends go back into the same company, where as if Fidelity is just holding the dividends until the next full stock amount to make another purchase, then it makes more sense to put them into the holding account.

    Has APPL climbed too fast?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:23 AM PST

What are your thoughts on Apple? The stock has climbed at an insane rate over the last few months (46% since its June dip). Would you sell your shares and wait for an upcoming correction? How far do you think it will go.

Is it true that Exxon Mobil's dividend payout ratio is unsustainable?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:13 AM PST

    If XOM's dividend is $0.87/quarter and earnings for the last three quarters were q1 = $0.55/sh, q2 = $0.73/sh, q3 = $0.68/sh, then isn't the dividend payout greater than earnings and therefore unsustainable? (q4 = estimate = $0.99/sh (low = $0.72)

What is comcast increasing it’s revenue, and is this growth long term?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:41 AM PST

It seems like comcast took a dive last year, but it's emerging again as a profitable corporation with continuous growth. What is driving this growth in revenue, and what plans do they have to continue this growth? With good management and by reallocating their funds to other strong sources of revenue, I can see Comcast becoming a good investment in the long term. Short term they're killing earnings.

    Shorting on lockup expirations?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:21 AM PST

With many recently disappointing IPOs, I was wondering, has anyone here tried a strategy of shorting a stock right before its IPO lockup period, expecting that supply will increase due to employees selling their shares upon expiration periods, thereby driving the price down?

Is this a viable "strategy"? Are there any caveats?
