I called 911 for a medical emergency and the police showed up and verbally harassed/threatened me. Should I file a complaint? (Pennsylvania)

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 10:44 PM PST

I don't really know where to file this under flairs.

Tonight, I had to call an ambulance to my apartment. My boyfriend was acting erratic and seemed to be in psychosis. He then had a full-on seizure.

Later on, I found out he smoked synthetic marijuana. I don't know much about that. I do not do drugs. I do not even smoke normal marijuana. I called an ambulance because I didn't know what else to do - I was scared.

Three policemen showed up first and entered without knocking. Asked where he was. I started to cry and they told me to go in the other room as I was annoying them. I complied. Then, the larger of the three cornered me in the hallway.

He said my pupils were completely "blown" and I better start telling the truth about what drugs I do. I told him that I have incredibly poor eye sight and my pupils have been naturally large since childhood - this is true. He told me, "stop fucking lying to me now or you're getting arrested for drug possession." Again, I denied any drug use and told him he could literally drug test me through blood and urine at that exact moment - I am clean. He left me in the hallway and another man came out, rinse and repeat. Then the third did the same thing. They kept telling me to look at lights and laughing and saying I was the biggest liar they had ever met. At this point I'm amped up and scared. I am a 23 year old woman. I am in nursing school. I do not do drugs.

At this point, they have the ems there coming or and checking my pupils and laughing. They were telling my boyfriend that he better rat on both of us or we were both going to jail. They ripped apart my whole entire room and starting laying into me for having cipro prescribed (an antibiotic). The largest policeman then told me he was going to speak to my landlord and have me evicted. I reiterated that I am completely clean and could pass not only a field sobriety test but a drug test of any kind. He retorted with "I highly doubt that" as he continued to tear apart my home.

Eventually, they got my boyfriend into the ambulance and all three of the cops left laughing. The largest turned around and said, "Congratulation on ruining your life. don't call an ambulance when you are on drugs, I'll see you around".

Not only am I shaken, but I feel threatened and ashamed. The man I was with should not have been on anything, but I called an ambulance because I was scared he might die! I didn't call them to be harassed. Did they even do anything really wrong that I can report this? We live in a small town in NEPA. I know that they heard a possible drug incident over the scanner and had three of them show up because they thought they'd find a good amount of drugs/an incident of interest. They found absolutely nothing. No one got arrested or charged. They also refused to give me any badge numbers and told me if I kept inquiring I'd be in more trouble.

Overheard boss telling HR not to hire any women for some openings we have. [TN]

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:59 AM PST

I work as an engineer in manufacturing in Tennessee. The work we do involves a little bit of physical work (lifting parts and moving samples), but not enough to warrant adding it as a requirement to the job posting. We're hiring a couple new engineers and I overheard my boss telling our recruiter not to hire any women for these positions, because he doesn't think they can complete the physical aspects of the job. Of the dozen or so engineers in the department, we're all men ages 23-28. How should I respond? Is this something to report to the EEOC?

Boss asked me to create a "hidden" page on company's website and run ads against it. (PA)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:26 AM PST

I am in charge of marketing for my company, yesterday we had a meeting including myself, the CEO and the Director of Sales where we reviewed the SEO and PPC campaigns for the past quarter.

During the meeting the CEO asked if I could create a page on the site where the text and the background are the same color, and to type in the names of our competitors and their brands on that page so we can get rankings against their brand on Google. I told him that I was unsure if that would be classified as a deceptive or unfair marketing practice, but he repeated the request three more times throughout the meeting. After the third request I told him I would not pursue this course of action until I was certain that what he is requesting is allowed not only by Google but by the FTC.

So, my question is, is a website allowed to have what looks like a blank page, but fill it with keywords that match the background color and use them in advertising campaigns?

Edit: Thank you all for the answers, I'm very happy I posted here and asked because you gave me the info I needed to get resources to show him that, while legal, doing this would risk us running afoul of Google's TOS. I'm sure, like most people, he wouldn't want us to be penalized by Google, so I am drafting alternatives that don't violate the TOS and still allow us to get rankings off those keywords before meeting with both of them again.

Is it legal to just tell my tenants to leave so we DON'T have to go through the eviction process?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:55 AM PST

I'm a land lord to a little townhouse (state of NJ) and I made the classic mistake of taking a risk on a tenant (family) who didn't have a great credit score. No surprise they are behind on rent and want me to use the security deposit to cover the bill while they "make it up". Even though they are kind people I know they won't catch up and that's assuming I waive all late fees which I've done for 3 months so far.

I'm tired of being nice, but eviction feels complicated since I travel out of state for work. Can I just say something like "listen if you move out right now I won't go forward with the eviction and ruin your credit further, and I'll keep the deposit to pay for the late rent, just please get out of my house" Is that legally sound?

Its all new to me, learning as I go, thanks any advice is appreciated.

ps-brand new redditor long time lurker, didn't think my first post would be here lol

Crazy Neighbor Cuts Our Hedges in the Middle of the Night - is now sending in a private surveyor onto our property. (CA)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 09:57 AM PST

We moved into our house about five years ago. Our neighbor moved in about a year before we did. Our driveways are separated by a hedge which was there before either of us moved in. Starting from the house into the backyard is the wooden fence between our properties. The neighbor wants to tear down both the hedge and the existing fence and build a new wall between us, however, he is claiming an extra six inches onto our property. He said whoever built the hedge/fence previously was wrong in their zoning and he rightfully owns the six extra inches. We have no idea where he got them from and we have been going back and forth on this. The city has been called out but they haven't been able to confirm anything which is really frustrating. The police have been called out a few times because things got heated. We figured out that he's been cutting our hedges back in the middle of the night - we installed cameras and caught him.

We found out last night that he has hired a private surveyor to survey the two properties. He claims that 1. The surveyor will be able to go onto our property without our consent. 2. Because he is paying for the report, he does not need to show us the results of the report. He is confident that it will show the extra 6 inches that belong to him and he will demo the concrete, hedges and fence and rebuild a new one and then stick us for the bill. Can we stop the private surveyor from coming onto our property?

Apartment complex towed my car while I was on vacation. I pay $100 a month for parking in their lot. [Iowa]

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:05 AM PST

Got back from vacation yesterday to find that my car had been towed from inside the underground garage at my apartment complex. I pay $100 for this privilege.

The tow company is charging me $770 to get my car back.

Is this something I have grounds to fight (my complex. The towing company just did their job), or should I just lick my wounds and walk away?

After renting a house we discovered that the flooring is covered in pet urine. We paid out of pocket to replace the flooring only to discover the urine is soaked through the wood boards under thr carpet when we tore it out. Landlord won't do anything or let us out of lease (pa)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:09 AM PST

When we viewed the house before signing the lease the previous tenant was still here. I have no idea why but for some reason we didn't smell anything at all during the walk thru.

The landlord wouldnt allow us access to the house until after the lease was signed. After signing the lease we got the keys and discovered the entire house smelled overwhelming. I immediately rented a rug doctor and scrubbed the floors with every product for pet urin I could find including white vinegar and baking soda.

When that did nothing (after 6 days of scrubbing and the landlord not answering my calls or texts) I finally got intouch with the landlord and explained the situation (I have a 3 year old son who I'm not allowing to roll on a carpet covered in piss. Plus we have a dog who is going crazy with the smell). She agreed to pay for pergo flooring for two rooms but if we wanted more done we had to pay for it and we had to do ALL the work. We tore out the carpeting in the dining room last night and discovered the piss was soaked into the wood under the carpet. The landlord wont replace it or let us out of the lease and I cant afford to rip up floor boards in a house in just renting. On top of this we discovered the roof is leaking under the entire length on the left side of the house (the landlord is patching it until she can get someone to replace is in a month). The deadline to be out of our old house is passed so we have all of our belongings in this house and I'm at a total loss about what to do. Ive never dealt with anything like this before and I have no idea what to do. Please help. This is in Pennsylvania.

Rental Car Company is coming after my Wife

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 03:56 AM PST

A few years back while a work trip my wife got in a car accident in a rental car while leaving a job site heading to the airport. She was considered at fault for this accident. During this incident she was covered by her employers insurance and made a claim for this incident with that insurance, they even paid her medical bills stemming from this incident. However the rental car company is demanding money from her not her, now former, employer's insurance company for all damages resulting from the accident. She given the rental car company her former employer's insurance company information several times but the rental car company continues to demand money from her for the incident.

If any of you can shed some light on this situation I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance

Edit: This incident occurred in Georgia, Employer is located in Texas.

Does my phone that doesn't work as a phone count as a phone if it's only useful for morphine? [Delaware]

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 07:32 AM PST

Shockingly, this title is not misleading.

I have an implanted medical device that delivers small doses of morphine to me because of chronic pain issues. Along with that, I have a handheld device to control that implant.

The handheld device consists of a small Bluetooth-controlled antenna I place over the area where the morphine pump that is controlled by a modified smart phone. The only functionality to which I have access on this phone is basically the app to control the pump. I cannot use it for any kind of communication: no voice, no SMS, no video calls, no internet access. The only connectivity of which I am aware is that it reports back to the doctor about my usage, something over which I have no control.

Being that I can't use it for any kind of communication, does this still count as a phone, legally speaking?

The antenna portion of it has some indications on it that it is a medical device, but the phone looks entirely like, well, a phone from the outside when the screen is off.

I'm asking particularly in regards to things like using it while driving. Would that violate the law as it is? What about situations where I would otherwise be required to surrender a cell phone, like inside a court house if I were to get jury duty? Are there any other considerations that I might need to bear in mind?

Finally, since Delaware is often just a speed bump between other states, would anything change in neighboring states, particularly Maryland and Pennsylvania (and possibly New Jersey)?

    Thank you.

I paid a Mailing company to professionally package a fragile $400+ item. They may not reimburse me for the full loss. What are my legal options?

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:21 AM PST

The merchandise was completely destroyed in transit since it was not packaged properly! Located in NJ, USA

I went into a mailing company with a $400+ antique dinnerware set that a customer bought off eBay. I paid them $40 to properly package set. I shipped the set in two different boxes and I used two different shipping carriers for each box. They're both unrelated to the mailing company I used. I've filled insurance claims with the shipping carriers however they may not pay the full amount since the insurance I had was not comprehensive enough for $400 and the items we not packaged properly.

From what the customer told me the fragile set was protected with paper and and those big shipping bubbles, nothing was individually wrapped like the shipping company should have done. There were dozens of pieces put very close together with 0 protection besides thin paper. I have pictures and proof that this is the case.

My eBay business has taken a serious hit because customer feedback and service is very important. This is my sole income and this incident will probably affect future sales.

The owner of the store has been made aware of the issue and has yet to contact me. I'm worried they may put the blame on the shipping service and refuse to pay all the damages.

My property management company keeps getting my utilities shut off (Texas)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 05:31 AM PST

When we started renting this house our first property management company had a policy that all the basic utilities, water, electricity, trash, and gas, were in their name, and we paid for them alongside rent. Annoying, and they charged a small extra admin fee for the "service", but whatever. I love the house, and not having to deal with setting up utilities was nice. I got an itemized statement emailed to me mid month of what the charge was going to be.

Then at the end of July, the owner sold the house to an LLC who used a different management company. The new folks don't have the same type of utility policy. I called about 5 times in the first few days to make sure if they were going to carry over the terms of the lease, or if I was going to have to get my own utilities. They swore up and down that everything would stay the same.

In October we still hadn't gotten a bill or statement for any of the utilities, and our water got cut off. I was told that the bill had been paid but that there was some sort of miscommunication with the city. Yeah right, they don't cut you off over one late payment. They got it turned back on the next day. I was pissed, but they resolved it quickly, so I didn't make a big deal about it. I specifically asked if this was a one time thing or if they were fucking up our other utilities too. They promised everything was all good.

I finally got a bill for the utilities on November 1st. No itemized statement, but the amount seemed accurate and I figured I would take it up with them later in the month.

Then yesterday, 11/5, I came home from work to find our power cut off. I called immediately and was told they were escalating the issue asap, and it should be back on by the end of the day. Big fat lie. I'm going to have to tear them a new one today.

The lease states that the landlord is not liable for issues related to utility interruptions unless caused by their own negligence. I'm pretty sure this counts. I haven't had any specific damages because of this that would be worth suing for, just a lot of inconvenience. My cat was unable to use her electric water fountain all day, but she seems fine, I put a bowl of water out when I came home, and she's not above drinking out of the toilet when she wants to. I think I would be entitled to break the lease if I wanted to, but I REALLY don't.

What I really want is an addendum to take the utility part off the lease so I can get my own utilities and not deal with this nonsense every month. Or failing that, enough compensation to make it hurt so they have an incentive to get it right next time. Is there anything else I am legally entitled to? Is it reasonable to demand a four-day reduction in rent for next month, because of the four days (so far) that they have been in violation of the lease by not providing us with utilities, plus something for the suffering of my cat and any refrigerated food we may have to replace? Thank God this didn't happen last week when it was below freezing at night.

    Pumping at work

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:50 PM PST

I am a nursing mother that needs to be able to express breastmilk at work. I already know that federal laws apply to my company. There is also detailed company policy supporting accommodating my needs. I am in Missouri.

For the past month I have been having issues being able to pump when I need to. At the beginning of October I had a severe case of mastitis, most likely caused by not receiving a timely break - I was approximately 7 hours into my 8.5 hour shift before receiving a break. This meant I had gone 8+ hours since breastfeeding/pumping. I was signed off work for several days by my doctor and also given a doctor's note explaining I needed to pump every 3-4 hours.

I do not have a designated pumping area. The area I do pump in is multipurpose and at times I have been denied access to it. Ex: I need to pump on my meal break. The space I use was in use by my supervisor who knew I needed access to pump. I also told them this when I found the space in use. It was 10 minutes into my 30 minute break before I could access the space to pump. This meant I was unable to pump for the duration I needed to before having to return to work.

My supervisors do not want to accommodate the breaks I need. I need to pump every 3-4 hours. Ex: If my first break is at 7am, I need another break at 11am. This has been approved and agreed upon by my company. I have to argue for this to happen. Today, my shift was 5am-10am. My supervisor wanted to give me my only designated break at 5:45am. I explained this did not work and why - I would need to pump again at 9:45am (my pumping time is unpaid). I was told no several times. When I advised that my manager (their boss) approved and wrote down a different time (30 minutes later) it was suddenly okay. Up until today my needs would not have been accommodated. I know 15 minutes seems nominal, but my health is important. Moreover, if I budge on my needs it feels like I will be walked all over (because I have been), and 15 minutes will become an hour or more (this has happened). I have been in pain and had to beg to have my break so I could pump.

This may not be the best place to ask, but I thought it would be a better place since there is legislation surrounding pumping at work. At the end of the day this is my health and that of my baby. My company will not be footing the bill if I get sick, for lost wages, or for formula if my supply is damaged. I have a lot of emotions about this, but I am trying to set that aside and have reasonable requests - a place to pump, breaks every 4 hours max with my input into when being heard. I have marched this up the chain - manager, district manager, HR. I get support from them, but they don't run the day-to-day. A month of conversations and no improvement seems unreasonable - am I wrong? I am worried about retaliation or being forced to quit (which is what I am quickly approaching). Who else can I go to? What else can I do?

HOA wants to remove a tree from public space in front of a neighbor's property

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 10:43 AM PST

Hi, so here is the situation (in Sonoma County, California, btw):

    1. The older lady (in her 70s, I believe) in that house has complained about the spikey seed pods the rather large Liquid Amber Tree drops on her property. She claims that she is worried she will step on one and fall, injuring herself. She has lived in this community for 10 years, at least.

    2. The tree is not on her property and was there before she moved in. It's in community space right outside her property line.

    3. Gardeners come and clean our entire community weekly, including the sweeping and cleaning of her driveway. She also has her own gardeners, who come weekly or semi-weekly (I can't remember) and keep her gardens looking nice.

    4. The HOA management firm claims that, because she has complained and fears for her safety, now the HOA is possibly liable should she actually fall and hurt herself so we must not remove the tree from community owned space.

    5. I made them add the condition that the tree must be replaced with a different tree, not simply removed. However, it will take decades for the new tree to look as nice as the one that would be removed.

Is this the way it works? Can anyone move into a place and then complain about something that was there when they moved in, forcing the HOA to remove the thing? It seems wrong to me but I have no idea how that would work, legally, should she try to sue the HOA for damages now that she has voiced her concerns.

This tree is large and looks great. I'd much rather keep it. It's not that I want her to get hurt, mind you, I just don't like the idea that we are forced to cut it down because she can't look where she is stepping. I mean, my 10 year old daughter would be on call to sweep the pods up for $5-10...I did suggest that at the meeting, btw.

So, yeah, are we liable or is responsible for her own safety?

    Thanks!

New employer changed job offer after I accepted

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:17 AM PST

(California) I accepted a job offer for a what was advertised as a full-time, one year term position. I put in my two week notice for current job and about a week and a half later, the new employer told me they cannot offer me full-time anymore and that they can offer me part-time without benefits.
The new employer has already sent me a job offer verbally (through phone) and through writing (email) along with our agreed salary range in writing (email).
I cannot return to my old job as they have already found a replacement for me.

Is the new employer allowed to do this? Is a job offer legally binding?
    What are my options here?

    Thanks for the help!

Sorry if this violates any post rules. I'm not too familiar with posting here.

Dad's roommate illegally sold his vehicles after he died. Kansas

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 08:02 AM PST

My dad passed away 3 weeks ago. He left no will and no transfer on death clauses. He was divorced and I am his only child. 4 days after he passed, I was informed that his truck and GTO had been taken away. I contacted the roommate who stated she knew nothing about it. I called the sheriff's department and was told that since the victim is my dad and he is not there to say they are stolen, all they could do was take a report. Turns out the roommate sold them to someone in town. He has a bill of sale that she signed her name on. He is saying that legally the vehicles are his. The DMV told me that I could apply for lost titles and then bring in the death certificate to get them switched to my name but I don't have the VIN number or the license plate number. I have tried to get help from the DMV and the sheriff's department and even the guy that "bought" them with no luck.

Basically, I keep being told by people that since the vehicles and the estate isn't worth much, like next to nothing, that I should just let it go. I am so frustrated. Any advice?

I guess this is a touchy situation.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST

My best friend is a high school band director. There is a special needs child that shouldn't even be marching on the field but she lets him anyway. They had some optional competition this year and if you wanted to go you had to be at mandatory practices. All practice information is posted on the website for parents to check. The parents of this handicapped child are enraged that he wasn't allowed to march because he missed the practices and they said she should've called them. They are threatening court and trying to make her lose her job. She has been doing this since the 90s. A family member of the child made a Facebook status accusing her of being inappropriately close to one of her male students so much that it makes them sick. None of which is true. I guess I'm looking for legal advice that I could give her because she is physically ill from this whole situation.

Pay to apply for a job [Canada]

So I've been job hunting and came across an interesting position that I wanted to apply to, and got redirected to this website which asked me to create a profile before applying, which I'm used to, but then when the profile was completed it asks me to purchase their premium subscription first before being able to apply.

Is this legal? I'd think it breaks all sorts of equal access laws

My girlfriend was assaulted tonight by some guy that she doesn't know. I want to know what her best route to take from here is.

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 04:23 AM PST

My gf was really drunk at the time, so im going to piece the story together as best I can:

She was in the car with her sister and a friend of her sister. Said friend is a guy who goes by the name Gustavo. They get into a wreck. A friend of Gustavo shows up and my gf gets in the car with him and they leave. My gf and this guy meet up with a third guy in a third car. GF gets in the car with the third person who goes by Sosa. Sosa drives GF into an alley and begins to accost her in Spanish. Then puts his hands on her face and head and at some point slams her head against the side of the car and then pulls her face towards his junk and...you get the rest. I know the police initially showed up to the wreck, and I have a rough description of the cars that everyone was driving. But I don't know if any of the names they use are their actual names, if they're registered citizens, or how to proceed at all. She doesn't want to talk to the police because she doesn't want this to go any further than it already has, which is unfortunately typical for these kinds of cases. She just wants it to go away and filing a police report means reliving it and making it more real to her. What do I do?

How to avoid being liable for my mother's debts after she dies

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 02:26 AM PST

My mother was recently diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer, and the tumor is very large, so she isn't going to do chemo or radiation either. She's been a wonderful mother, but over the course of making a life for us (me and my twin brother (20), and my sister (25)), she has incurred some debts. She is currently in the process of sorting out her affairs, and we want to know if there is a way for us to not pick up on her debts when she passed away. My father (70) is still alive, but is also battling with cancer, so I assume that if he'd cosigned on some of the debt, he'd become responsible, but he might not be with us for very much longer either, so I want to know how we would go about not becoming responsible for those debts after they pass. We have nearly no money at all, and I would also like to prevent them selling off things from my parents estate, because that's all we'll have left of them after they're gone.

TL;DR: My parents are both close to passing away, and I need to know how to avoid picking up their debt

Bank of America is suing me for $10,000.00. I have no idea what to do! (PA)

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 12:29 PM PST

I live in PA and just got certified mail that B of A is suing me for $10,000.00 for an unpaid credit card that I stopped paying in 2017. There is an arbitration hearing scheduled for Feb. 2020.

Background: This was a marital credit card but opened in my name only in 1994. I divorced my divorce attorney husband in 2012 and needless to say I did not fair well at all and was stuck with a tremendous amount of marital debt. I am on SS disability and have been since 2003. My alimony and child support ended in 2017 and I could not make the $300.00/mo. payments anymore. B of A refused to work with me on making smaller payments.

I make $1,200.00/mo and cannot afford an attorney and have to mail an answer to the court and I have no idea what to say or do. Also, I don't know how to defend myself. Will it be possible that I could request a payment plan at the arbitration? What should I say in my written response now? Thanks so much in advance.

I'm being put in charge of handling my dad's old house that may or may not have squatters/addicts living in it (Maryland)

My dad went to rehab for opioids/cocaine over a year ago and has been clean since, which is great. But he is unsure of the status of the house he owned and was living in before he went to rehab. Understandably he is also unwilling to go back there for fear of seeing people he used to use with and being in the house in general.

I currently live in Pennsylvania, but he and my family have decided to put me in charge of finding some sort of resolution for this property. I am unsure of where to begin, what legal processes I might have to go through, and who to contact to get information about the financial and resident status of the property. I've never dealt with real estate or any of these issues before, so any help at all would be appreciated. Thank you!

I’ve been searching for a job for the last 3 weeks. One place I applied to offered me a job with suspiciously good pay almost immediately, with no interview or anything. Big red flag. I asked for more information and they ghosted me for two weeks. Today I got a check in the mail for over $3000. (AL)

I applied to a job listing on Indeed that advertised really good pay. Within a couple hours of applying, I got an emailback saying they wanted to hire me. Okay, suspicious as hell, but the money is good so I'll just ask for more information. So I did just that.

That was two weeks ago. I hadn't heard from them until today. Today I got a fedex overnight envelope delivered to me. That's weird, I'm not expecting anything. I open it up, and inside is a check for over $3000 from a construction company a state away from me. I spent 15 minutes trying to figure out what the hell this check was for when I get an email and a text from the guy that ghosted me two weeks ago.

I don't know what the hell is going on here. I never signed anything, never said I would take the job. This seems like some sort of tax scam or money laundering scheme. I'm at a complete loss. What advice can you give?

    Thanks in advance 🙏

Mom stole identity, not sure what my options are

    Posted: 06 Nov 2019 11:46 AM PST

Hello! Forgive me if I'm all over the place here, this whole thing is new to me.

A few months ago I received a report on my credit from a collection agency for a gas/electric company under an address in a state I do not live in. I tried to dispute it through my credit but it came back as clear (which in itself was crazy since I have never lived in said state). A few weeks after that I received a letter saying someone had hacked into their database and the account was a mistake.

Well last week I applied for a loan and didn't get approved because of a collection charge off on my credit report. I check and it's the same exact one (which somehow disappeared in between this time on my credit)! I call the gas company and get the address, dates (which was when I was 15 years old), phone number, etc and find out that my mother, who I haven't spoken to in almost 5 years, was the one who created the account. Long story short, my mother has been a drug addict for years, and she cut contact with me when I fully found out about it. I haven't spoken to her and have lost respect for her and want to make sure this doesn't happen ever again. She has 4 other kids which I've been told she recently got custody back, which I'm hoping means she's clean.

The thing is, when I filed the report for identity theft, the detective I spoke to said that last he saw her she looked clean and asked if I wanted to press charges and have her arrested or if I just wanted to file it for my credit dispute. Originally I was fully prepared to press charges, but after hearing that she may be doing better, I would feel terrible if I set her back.

I wanted to know what all of my legal options were before moving forward. The officer said he would call me tomorrow for my answer but I feel like there has to be something that can be done besides arresting her. I mean, she stole my identity, used my SS number, and ruined my credit. But because of her using and her personality I know that she won't learn from just a warning. I really don't know what to do.

Lastly, I also apologize for my ignorance, I'm 20 and I've never had to deal with anything like this before.

My mom's been acting all kinds of strange and we just found a suspicious bottle with a baggie containing white powder in the yard, what do I do?

    Posted: 05 Nov 2019 04:18 PM PST

    I live in Missouri, US.

Family and I have been suspicious about her for a while about whether or not this was just untreated bipolarity or potentially an addiction to an illegal substance. My therapist has stressed it's very important to not touch any potential drugs we (my dad and I) find and to call the police if we find something that could be drugs, but while out walking with our chickens/dog we were picking up a bunch of random things she had thrown here, there, and everywhere during one off her episodes that's been coined as a psychosis all over the yard ranging from purses to other odd baggies.

This problem has been greatly impacting our lives for many years now and personally I want to take it in to the police and report anything and everything I can, but I'm afraid because we touched it picking it up we could also get roped into the ordeal and wind up getting arrested for possession or something. We also are unsure if it is drugs, but her symptoms are very apparent and I've had a couple counselors advise she may be using and to be cautious.

Should we take it into our local sheriff's office? Should we not do that since we touched it? There might be more misc things tossed around our yard and calling the police for every little thing we're unsure about sounds like a lot but we've also picked up some for the sake of our animals so we've still already touched things. Any direction that can be given?
