Posted: 09 Nov 2019 05:43 AM PST 6 years ago I moved to Missouri from Hawaii with my ex-husband, our 2 kids and my dog. I worked a day shift an hour away and my ex worked nights. I had to put our kids in daycare because my ex needed his time to rest during the day. 3.5 years ago, I came home and my dog was gone. My ex told me that he must have ran away. I searched and posted flyers, but I didn't get any leads. During the divorce my ex told me the truth and said he gave my dog away because he couldn't get any rest with the dog at home with him and he posted an ad on craigslist. I was livid! Today I received an email from a vet clinic in Texas saying that a pet was found yesterday. They said that he was microchipped and it was registered to a shelter and they gave them my information. I cried. They proceeded to ask me to describe him and asked if I had any pictures of him. I gave them a description, the name of the shelter that I rescued him from and sent pictures. The emails stopped. I called after work and they already knew my name, the name of the shelter and said that they received my emails with the description and pictures. I was told that they haven't dealt with this situation before and needed to ask the doctor's lawyer about what to do. I was told that the lady that found my dog brought him in and said that if nobody claims him that she wants to keep him. I made it very clear that I'm claiming him and didn't understand why there was any confusion about me getting my dog back. She said that in Texas there are property laws and since pets are considered property they want to make sure that they are doing the right thing. She then said that she was leaving for the day and said hopefully we'll hear back from the lawyer by Monday and hurried off of the phone since they were closing. I'm on an emotional roller coaster right now. I have tried googling pet ownership laws, but I'm getting mixed results. TL;DR My ex-husband gave my dog away 3.5 years ago. I was contacted by a vet office in TX saying that he was found yesterday. They won't release him to me until they hear back from their lawyer because the lady who found him wants to keep him. I'm in Missouri. Can they prevent me from getting my dog back? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2019 08:05 AM PST I am 19 and this case has been going on since I was around 12-13. I will try to keep it as short as possible. My neighbor who has drinking problems has been harassing my family since we moved in, often in the form of insulting us for being polish ("polish pigs", "go back where you belong", etc.). At one point the police told us to put up security cameras so we can prove that he is harassing us, so we did, and eventually this led to a harassment prevention order against the neighbor that gave us some peace for a year. We were then sued in a criminal case for wiretapping (we are in mass and the statute is MGL Chapter 272 Section 99) for having our cameras on our house, which after 2-3 years was dismissed as we were not recording in secret and had clear notices of our security cameras. We barely managed to scrape together the money for a lawyer in that case, but we had to because it was a criminal case. Some ways into the criminal case, this neighbor and his wife also filed a civil case against us for emotional trauma, claiming that our security cameras could hear inside their house and we were recording their private conversations (their house is some 80 feet from ours). We had a lawyer who signed a contract for a flat fee to run the case. Despite preparing counterclaims with us he never filed them, leaving us only in a position to defend ourselves from our neighbor. Our lawyer then demanded three times what we had agreed upon, and we couldn't afford that so he left the case. We have been trying to find a lawyer since then, but no one wants to take the case this late and everyone is asking for around $20000 which we cannot afford. It is my parents being sued in this case and they barely speak English. They get a court appointed interpreter but, no offense to her, her translating is terrible and led to so many misunderstandings that the Judge completely misunderstood what my mother was saying. During the hearing for the motion for summary judgement we filed (pro se, we didn't have the lawyer anymore), despite many attempts to tell the judge (through motions as well as the clerks office) that my parents weren't even able to be understood due to the interpreter not being able to keep up, they would not allow us a different interpreter and they didn't allow me to translate for them. I know all the rules about how only a lawyer can represent someone but I only wish to translate for my parents because right now they are repeatedly sent defenseless into a courtroom like lambs to slaughter. In attempt to mitigate this communicative disadvantage, we spent days poring over law and writing a motion for summary judgement, but after the hearing it became clear the Judge hadn't even read it, and I in the stands was unable to say anything as my parents struggled to get anything across to the other parties in the room. I understand the whole "get a lawyer only they have the expertise to handle a trial" and I've heard that argument plenty of times, but we can't afford a lawyer, we can't settle, and we can't afford to lose as our neighbor is claiming almost $400000 in damages for the emotional trauma our security cameras apparently caused him. Over the years of this case, I have written countless motions for this case in the times when we didn't have a lawyer, some of which were successful, and I feel confident that if I were able to at least translate for my parents (who I might add are much too emotionally unstable at this point to compose themselves enough to at least try and communicate properly during a trial) at the jury trial, we would at least have a chance of defending ourselves. I have a power of attorney over my mother, yet this apparently and ironically does not grant me any power to help her in the court system. I know there is one motion I have not filed yet where someone can theoretically represent someone who is incompetent and cannot represent themselves (in the case of mental illness, emotional instability, etc.) yet I did not file it because I was unsure it would apply to our situation. My question for you her on this subreddit is, do you know of any way I could translate for, maybe even speak for my mom in this case, or at the very least show up as a witness? The case is absurd as it sounds, anyone who knows anything about technology knows that the things my neighbors claim of our shitty cameras is impossible but it is my current belief that a good portion of the court system is incompetent and uninformed and has allowed this case to carry on for 7 years now. It has been ruining all our lives, and I just want to know if there's a way for me to do anything about it or will I be forced to watch as this prejudiced court system destroys my parents because they can't afford a lawyer and can barely speak english? Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for any advice you can offer. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 08 Nov 2019 03:22 PM PST I live in Texas. Back in July I was rear ended by a motorcycle cop in uniform. Luckily I had a dashcam (front facing only) which captured the events. The video corroborates my story, and clearly shows that I am not at fault. I gave my footage to the responding officer, however he made no mention of it in the accident report. The responding officer and the motorcycle cop both work for the same department. No fault was determined in the accident report even though it was pretty obvious that the motorcycle cop slammed into me. We both filed insurance claims and our respective insurance companies fought it out in arbitration. My insurance company won arbitration and it was determined motorcycle was at fault. I was refunded my deductible since I wasn't at fault. Fast forward several months and the motorcycle cop has hired a personal injury attorney. I'm now being sued personally for a million dollars! While being sued for a mil is sort of cool, I'm also freaking out. I've contacted my insurance (Progressive) and they are having their litigation team reach out to me in the next few days. My Google searches haven't turned up too much other than to tell me my insurance company "might" provide legal representation. Question 1: Does anyone know what happens if they don't provide legal assistance? Should I be hiring a lawyer now, or just wait to hear what Progressive says. I'm not a rich man so spending money willy nilly on a lawyer isn't at the top of my list. Question 2: California has a "fireman law" that prevents firemen and police officers from suing civilians for injuries that occur in the line of duty. Does anyone know if Texas has something similar? Edit: 2 months > several months [link] [comments] |
Update on MIL spending 13k of partners money - advice needed Posted: 09 Nov 2019 04:14 AM PST He was in WA, now in CT, mother in WY all USA Original post here https://www.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/dsxubu/mil_has_spent_13k_on_my_partners_credit_cards/ I posted that MIL had opened credit cards that my partner knew about but then spent money he didn't know about until recently. We've also just discovered she has also been using his checking account to pay her own credit cards off with debit payments each month. She has power of attorney but as far as I know, it only applies to the deployment times and he's not on active duty since July 2018. The issue is, he has let her continue to use his bank account to pay his rent for him. And he didn't check the spending because he trusted her. He let her open the credit cards, he just didn't know she was going to be using them for herself too. So it was expected that she only use his money for his bills etc. Does this impact the case if he goes to the police? The total is now up to 35k that she's stolen including interest. Posted: 09 Nov 2019 05:23 AM PST I'm trying to keep this short as the story has been running for just about his entire life, so here's what is probably relevant to the post: -I, after my divorce, lost my house and most of my income to my ex-wife. I now live with my parents. I have an 8 year old daughter. My brother has two children that live here aged twelve and ten. My parents have always raised them. -My brother time and time again has gone back to the same woman who continually ruins his life. She's cost him multiple jobs, stints in jail for (supposedly) faked domestic issues. She has cost him his own homes as she entices him back long enough to get his leases or rent agreements cancelled, then she kicks him out again. She has kicked him out around 10 times now. -Further on that point, during a previous stint of his being kicked out, when he was being allowed to stay on the couch, he left a bottle of water sitting on the kitchen table. He left the house. My mother took a drink of the water, found it to taste disgusting, and poured it down the drain. When he returned home, he went ballistic. Claimed he had mixed kidney (later changed to heart) medicine in the water and was sipping the water to make it last. He then called paramedics to check out my mother as her heart was racing (she has a heart condition). We didn't know it at the time, but have since been told by a former meth user that the water could have been what is (at least locally) called "trucker's coffee," that is Meth mixed with water they can sip on to stretch out their supply and the buzz. -Due to his outbursts of temper, deceit, thievery, and possibly giving my mother meth, he was not to be allowed back in our house again. -He was again kicked out of his house. My dad let him come here on the condition it would be the couch, one night, then he would be going to live with my uncle. -He now refuses to leave. He's taken over the bedroom of his daughters (now Dad is sleeping on the couch, his daughters sleep with my mom). He's stolen money from my mother. We think he's sold some stuff around the house we can't find. He was seen by mom coming out of the local meth house after the money and household items went missing. -Mom discovered another water bottle, this one clearly with some kind of residue in the little bit of water left in the bottle. It smells vaguely chemical, reminiscent to me almost of alka seltzer with ammonia or something. After she took the bottle, he again went into a rage, but then went to bed. He has slept for almost 20 hours now. I want to call the police, independent of my parents. All of these things go down typically while I'm at work. The water with meth in it is in my mothers possession, but I know where she hid it, and she would freely give it over to me. If I call the police, when they come, will they have a way to identify the substance in the bottle? If it is indeed meth, can I see to it he is arrested for it? My name isn't on the house we own here, but I live here and have for two years now. Do I have any leverage beyond my parents? We're the kind of house where if a bottle of water is seen sitting out somewhere, any one of us would not hesitate to pick it up and drink from it if we were thirsty. If this is indeed "trucker coffee" again, I am horrified at the thought of my daughter or my nieces gulping down a (relatively speaking) massive dose of meth. [link] [comments] |
(AL) employer is making salaried employees work 7 days a week and threatening PTO. Posted: 09 Nov 2019 06:29 AM PST I work in construction and recently my employer has required that salaried workers work 7 days a week. In addition to this if there is no work being done due to poor weather conditions, if they don't come to the office and sit from 7-5 they could lose a whole day of PTO. I know they have limited rights but is there a limit to how many days and hours a person can work? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2019 10:25 AM PST This happened very late at night and shortly after the incident the police were called and through witnesses statements they found our address and visited our home, after some questioning they left but told us that they would be back later after an unsuccessful attempt at getting an answer from my father about who was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. My father wants me to take the fall for it as he believes I'll receive a lighter punishment than he would as I do not have a full license and only have a learner's license. I am 20 years old and thus an adult and not a minor. This is also in Australia. What should I do? [link] [comments] |
Medication prescribed by vet almost killed my dog, specialist vet has said we have a case Posted: 09 Nov 2019 06:25 AM PST Hello everyone, I'm hoping someone can help me. It has been suggested to my family that we look into a court case against my local vet for negligence but we're apprehensive about doing so. I'm hoping if I give the full story, someone on here might be able to advise me. Apologies in advance, it's a long one. TLDR at the bottom. My family dog is a 9.5-year old Rottweiler. She's in great health except for a bit of arthritis. We spoke to our vet about this. The vet suggested Onsior (Robenacoxib) which is an NSAID (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug) because my dog can't have Metacam, which would normally be the go-to. She gave a prescription for a months worth of tablets. Fast forward to the end of the month, her occasional lameness had decreased but had not entirely gone. Wanting to make sure there was as little discomfort as possible, my parents went back to the vet and asked if there was something different they could try. She swapped her to Previcox (firocoxib) which is another, more widely used NSAID. In less than a week, my dog had thrown up more than once so we stopped giving her the Previcox thinking it must not agree with her. Unfortunately, even though she hadn't had any meds, very early on the fifth day since being prescribed, she vomited everywhere, was drooling, panting and didn't respond to us beyond moving her eyes our way when we said her name. We took her to the vet but by the time we got there she had already started acting more herself but obviously there was no way we were going to brush it off. The vet had a feel of her stomach after we told her the symptoms and she said it's "just a stomach upset and her abdomen was sore from throwing up". She was given an injection of painkillers, an anti-sickness jab and the vet said she would swap us back to the Onsior. She gave us three months worth this time. Considering my profession (zookeeper) I was a bit skeptical with such a simple diagnosis for such severe symptoms and politely questioned it. The vet assured us that she was "fine apart from soreness" but she would give us stomach liners to prevent ulcers as they can occur when on NSAIDs. This hadn't been mentioned to my parents when she was given either medications. I tried to talk to my mum about whether or not to get a second opinion but I was promptly told I'm a not a vet, and should trust someone who is more educated than me and to be fair, she's right. We should be able to trust a vet, they have been in school for a long time to pursue this career. Later that night she was standing up, back end drooping and whining. We tried to get painkillers and stomach liners into her but she refused to eat at all. My parents put it down to the other painkillers wearing off as it was coming to the end of the time the injection would have been effective for. Next morning, she wasn't behaving normally again and not still eating so my parents took her straight to the vet. They took her in for blood tests and scans, kept her the whole day. When my parents came to collect her, the vets told them a mass had been found in her abdomen and they would refer us to a specialist. My parents took her right away. She was there overnight and the next morning we were called and told she had a perforated stomach and they would be operating straight away with permission but it was a 50-50 chance of survival because she's an old dog. However, she would die if she didn't have it, so we took the chance. After she came through the surgery successfully, the specialist informed us that it was the medication that caused the hole and we needed to have a "serious chat" with our local vet. They also said that it was very likely the Onsior is to blame, not the Previcox, because of the amount of time it takes to break down the stomach lining. My parents and myself looked into this ourselves. It turns out that the FDA recommendation and other official sources state that Onsior should be given for a maximum of 3 days and there seems to be no studies that say without a doubt Onsior is completely safe for long-term use. It also states that an information sheet should be given to owners so that they are aware of all risks no matter how rare. My parents were not given this and have said if they had seen the possible side effects, they would have asked for something else or alternatively, asked if there was a way to avoid such a reaction. Especially since it's stated in studies that Onsior can inhibit the production of prostaglandin which is something that keeps the stomach lining protected. So at this point, my dog has had two life-saving surgeries, has a feeding tube for the next two weeks in case she goes off her food again, is on a cocktail of antibiotics, and all of this has cost over £11k. Insurance only covers up to £6k so my family have had to find the rest of the money to pay out of pocket. We love our dog very dearly but if the cost had been any more than this, we wouldn't have been able to afford it. I feel as professionals, our vets should have been aware of and warned us about the severe consequences of extended use of NSAIDs. Understandably we are angry and upset but none of us want to charge into battle without an idea of whether it's worth it. We're more focused on our dogs recovery so need time to consider our options. We wouldn't be wanting to sue the vets for an extortionate amount, we would just want the vet bills covered. Thank you in advance for your time. TLDR: Vet gave dog NSAIDs without stomach liners which caused a hole in her stomach. Had to have two very expensive lifesaving surgeries. Specialist vets have suggested we look into taking our local vet to caught but we're not sure if it's a good idea considering our financial status now. [link] [comments] |
Can IRS put a levy on our home because the previous owner owes money? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 10:58 AM PST We purchased our home in June 2018. It is a $300k home in a couple acres out in the country, with a few outbuildings and a barn. The former owner had a company that operated at our address. From what I can tell, the company was not doing well financially. Since we purchased our home, we have been receiving letters from the IRS for that company. Obviously we don't open them and we keep telling the post office to return to sender and that company is no longer here. Today we are receiving a certified letter from the IRS (we know from informed delivery). I plan to again tell the mail carrier that they are not here and refuse to sign for it. But with that said, if our address is technically the company's address, are we fucked? Everything I'm finding online says that certified mail is often bad news from the IRS. The owner of the company moved out of state and is not local. But I'm worried the IRS doesn't care that the home is now ours if for all intents and purposes, the home belongs to the company (though it actually belonged to the owner of said company). Please tell me this doesn't end badly for us. [link] [comments] |
My landlord is trying to evict me due to a house fire caused by her son downstairs. Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:24 PM PST So for starters I live in British Columbia, Canada On October 25th, 2019 when I was on my way home from work, the downstairs tenant of the home I am renting ( who is the son of the landlord) started a house fire by accident, causing myself my partner and 2 children to be sent to a hotel for 3 nights thanks to emergency services. The landlord contacted me 3 days later saying the home was okay to live in, upon arrival it clearly wasnt. It smelled very bad of smoke, and there were black cobwebs and suit all over our floor. We told the landlord this and he said he would clean it himself, which he the. Tried to but did a very poor job. I contacted the insurance, the fire department, and the restoration place ( all 3 of the people I contacted had been on the home) and they all told me that it wasnt safe for my children and to get them out immediately. Since then I've been staying at my sisters, and my belongings are slowly being taken out of the home as fast as I can to get cleaned. The landlord sent me an eviction notice saying I did not pay rent, which I didnt because the house was unlivable, but has since went up into my house and went through my things without warning ( I have text proof of this ) and changed the locks on the house with a lot of my belongings still inside the house. I should also mention that I'm fighting to get my damage deposit back, but that's a whole other can of worms that I'm trying to deal with as they cant even afford the mortgage on the house. What are my options, is it mandatory I get the rest of my belongings from the home within 10 days of the eviction notice that I just received today? I'm currently at camp and wont be home till around Nov. 28th to collect the rest of my stuff. Is she legally allowed to just go back up in my home and throw it out? And info at all is greatly appreciated as I'm currently in camp stressing right out about all my belongings, my damage deposit that I'll probably never get back, and a slumlord going through my stuff. If I missed any details please let me know and I'll do my best to answer. Cheers [link] [comments] |
NY state took money out my bank account without my authorization! Please advice! Posted: 09 Nov 2019 09:24 AM PST I owed NY state taxes for years 2016 and 2017, and I've contacted them this past week about it to send them an offer in compromise. They said I had 60 days to do that. Today, I saw that they took all the money out of savings account. I never authorized them to do that and I still have like 52 days to send them my offer in compromise. I've no money left and I'm not sure calling them on Tuesday would help. Should I get a lawyer? How should I go about this? Edit: also, the money that they took is my worker's compensation money which I receive every two weeks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:48 PM PST California - I went to a chiropractor for an adjustment. The Dr asked me about my health and last time I was treated and told him its been more than 5 years since my last adjustment and the initial discomfort was from getting hit by a motorcycle in 2012. I told him I felt joint discomfort in my shoulder but he insisted it was muscle tightness. I figured he knew better than me but told him I have a herniated disc in my neck will this interfere? He said no the adjust will more than likely help the herniated disc or worse case scenario wont change anything. I agreed and let him proceed. He started with what he called basic joint movements and straightening my hips, rolled me from side to side pressing on my hip abductors. Then let me know the session would be intensifying and may cause loud noises. I consented and told him I was ready. My back and shoulders and neck were cracking. My friend in the room said it sounded stepping on soda cans. The doctor then proceeded to my neck, he twisted head to each side quickly and the noises were loud indeed. But that wasnt frightening, I felt the tingling in my arms slowly transitioning more into a numbness. He told me that was normal and that I was creating a problem in my head before it actually occurred and the main thing to focus on was the healing process. So he said he'll help me relax my tight muscles by loosening up the joints in my neck so my body could reveal itself. While still lying on my back atop the table, he placed a scarf from around his neck to the back of my head. Standing behind my head, he pulled the scarf as if disconnecting my head from my neck and shoulders. As he said, I felt what seemed to be gaps of air in between the spaces. It wasn't a magic session, and he gave me a pep talk about not looking at pain as pain and to stop imagining pain before with happens. He then told me after care methods and that I will probably feel a lot of pain that night but the healing cycle will be complete in a weeks time so schedule a follow up session for next week. On my way out, I scheduled the next two appointments. I was in a better mood, not sure if it was the pep talk or the actual adjustment or a combination of both. A soon as my friend and I walked from the Dr's office to the car, I felt extremely overwhelmed with fatigue. I fell asleep in the car (a 4.3 mile ride home). By the time I crawled into bed, my face hit the pillow and I sound asleep until about 2am from a pounding vibration. I woke up in the most dreadful pain ever imagined. I couldn't tell whether it was a migraine, heart attack or stroke or some sort of panic attack. I could move and felt semi paralyzed. Our of fear, I pulled myself up with all my strength but could only change positions. There was this pounding vibration going down my back. All I could think about is the doctor saying it gets worse before its getter. So I yelled for help, asked my friend to adjust the pillows and I went back to sleep. Next day was Sunday, was in pain all day. Monday morning came and the pain was unbearable. My head was so heavy and my neck felt like it was about to snap any moment. I called E.R. asking how much is the visit they said if I had to ask I could afford it or it wasn't an emergency. That sucked so I called the chiropractor back and told him what was going on. He said go to urgent care, tell them you saw a chiropractor two days ago and ask for MRI imaging. Then he mentioned he would ask his supervisor to cover the costs and call back with results so he could see what's going on. So that's exactly what I did. But it was hard cause I could barely walk. The urgent care doctor told me I had 3 herniated discs in my neck that were 3x and 5x over the normal range and advised i receive urgent attention. He said that's what causing the numbness and pain when walking, the discs were slightly pressing against the spine cavity nerves. Also said the shoulder joint pain was not muscular but was due to an aggressive form of osteoarthritis/spinal stenosis and no chiropractor can fix that. I called the chiropractor and he said there's nothing he could do just as the urgent care doctor said. Then he said his supervisor agdeed to either put my account on hold until I feel better or a full refund and would cover the urgent care and imaging costs since they hadn't bothered to request imaging before the adjustment. I told them to just give a full refund since I would have to take a few days off work and wouldn't know when I could return to normal activity. But after that call, they stopped taking my phone calls. So I emailed then and the receptionist was so rude when she called me back telling me I was the one lying. Well, I ended up not being able to walk or sit in a chair for more than 10 minutes for 43 days. I finally went to the E.R. and they prescribed pain meds. But limited my activity until I can get surgery to lifting no more than 10 pounds. Now its 3 months later, the chiropractor and supervisor lied and refuse to admit they said I could get a refund in the first place. I've given up on the imaging and urgent care reimbursement. But still want my full refund. I need it to. I haven't worked since August 6th. Since then, they've updated the terms and conditions and it seems impossible that I would ever get my money back. What do I do? This happened in California. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Revenge porn..harassment...stalking??? HELP ME Posted: 09 Nov 2019 06:48 AM PST So I'm 24 from Michigan and I was with my ex fiancé for almost 2 years. He had never been fully committed to me throughout the entire relationship but after my miscarriage the end of September I decided to end things with him because yet again he was cheating on me..not shortly after one morning around 7am he called me over 100x screaming he was going to kill himself and that he had nothing to live for saying he had a gun and he was going to kill himself. Mind you, he already has 2 children from a prior relationship. So he came over my house and I called the suicide hotline. They told me to call the police or take him to the hospital. I took him to st. John and they sent him to Havenwyck for a couple days. He was under the impression that we were going to get back together (I TOLD HIM MULTIPLE TIMES WE WERE NOT) I was the only one to ever visit him while he was there. Only to support him. At this time I wanted to still help and support him mainly because of the kids...I informed his family of what was going on and no one wanted to go see him saying he has done this before with his children's mom. so when he got out and saw I was actually serious this time (we were not getting back together) he started stalking me. Coming to my home uninvited and unannounced. He came to my grandmothers house..he even came to my job. After that stopped working he logged into my personal social media accounts and started flooding my timeline with old pictures of us when we were together and started creating fake social media pages pretending to be me, adding my friends and family to these pages. He even added my manager to these fake pages. He sent people nude pictures of me as well. I had to get my number changed. I deleted all my old social media and created new accounts which he found. He posted a video of me on pornhub recently. The only thing the police have told me to do is get a ppo which I did he is being served today and I got my cpl but even with the ppo idk if that will help with the social media part. I really need some type of help I never been through anything like this and he's been doing this since the beginning of October . It's November now. [link] [comments] |

Can I discuss my salary online? (UK) Posted: 09 Nov 2019 09:09 AM PST I recently made a post on twitter where I said my salary and the company I work for. I was told by my boss that this classes as gross misconduct and is a sackable offence; I was ordered to take down the tweet. Is this gross misconduct or am I allowed to share my minimum wage salary? I was not slandering the company and was comparing the wage at my university which was twice as much as what I am paid. [link] [comments] |
Found out my dog may be stolen, what do I do? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:52 PM PST Ohio for reference, my wife bought a Newfoundland 6 months ago off of craigslist and since then we have put so much money time and most importantly, love into him. when we brought him home we discovered he had untreated allergies and horrible sores as a result of that. Well last night he escaped from our yard and after hours of searching we had to call it a night. This morning we went to our local shelter and he was there, yay! We were so happy to see him but they wont release him to us yet. Turns out he is registered to another family in a completely different county and until they can verify hes stolen or not they cant give him back. What rights do we have if he is stolen? Can we turn the people who sold him to us in? Is this somthing we can sue for? Is there a chance wed get to keep him? Although I think id want to return him, i couldnt imagine how they feel if hes in fsct stolen. [link] [comments] |
I'm finally ready for divorce. What's my first move? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 05:58 AM PST I haven't talked with a lawyer yet. But I'm finally ready to. I just know if my husband of 10 years catches wind of what's going on, shit will hit the fan. He will NOT remain calm and want to talk about things. He will want revenge. I need to be smart on how I handle this. Should I stay with my husband and secretly talk with a lawyer? - The problem with this is that my husband controls all the money. I do not know how much we have in our bank account. I have access to a debit card and checks but that's it. Also, he tracks the mileage on my car. So he knows if I have been anywhere other than work. Should I move out first then start the process?- The problem with this is that he will get mad and take all the money and I will be left with nothing. I don't want to jump the gun and startle him basically. I managed to get to the bank and got myself preapproved for a mortgage by myself. Should I just buy myself a house even though we are still married, just so me and the kids (6yrs and 3yrs) have somewhere to live while this blows over? I just don't know where to start. He has so many ways to track and control me and I don't know how to stop it and get out. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Edit: We live in Iowa [link] [comments] |
Legality of Flying A 'SELL THE TEAM' Banner Posted: 09 Nov 2019 08:18 AM PST I live in Northern Virginia and I am a huge Washington Redskins fan. Unfortunately, they are owner by a POS named Dan Snyder. I am considering paying a company to fly a banner that says 'SELL THE TEAM' over Redskins park and Northern Virginia. I am at legal risk by flying this banner? Dan Snyder is notorious for suing redskins fans and I don't want to end up in court. HTTR! [link] [comments] |
[FL] Sold motorcycle, didn’t get buyer’s address. What to tell DMV? Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:32 PM PST Son sold his motorcycle to a buyer for cash, got his name and phone number, didn't get his address. Son allowed buyer to take the license plate (mistake under Florida law, he should have kept the plate). Son wants to file Notice of Sale with DMV, but form requires buyer's address. Buyer won't respond to texts and calls. What should he do? File the form with "Address unknown"? [link] [comments] |
My dad's phone got stolen and idk the steps I need to take Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:30 PM PST My dad's phone got stolen from his car at approximately 2:50pm EST. He was making a delivery to a store and left his phone in the car to charge and someone just snatched the phone, charger, and phone holder. I'm trying to track the phone but I think it was turned off because it hasn't moved from the spot for about 40 minutes and my dad says there's no one around. This happened in Newark, NJ. What steps can I take to get my phone back?? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 09 Nov 2019 10:07 AM PST Recently I(14F) have been butting heads with Mom(51F) Most of the time things between us are cold; I don't talk to her, she doesn't talk to me. When we do talk to each other she's asking me if I can do something. But 3 days out of the week she'll get super drunk and come in my room trying to pick a fight; calling me dirty, ugly, bitch, every name in the book. She'll start nitpicking little things early on in the day and by the end of the night, she'll be calling me names. throwing stuff at me and telling me to kill my self etc. About two months ago my dad(39ishM) signed me up for counselling(I was having really bad panic attacks, hair pulling...), which mom hates she says "I don't want you telling them white people in my business" She's been trying to get me to quit it. it has been pretty great so far I never really had a support system, so that's nice. Before this whenever she started to mess with me I'd pretend I was sleeping or, just let her do her thing and cry about it later. My dad isn't available at the moment(County jail, don't ask) so he hasn't been here for like a week and a half. I've still been going to my councilling, by asking my sister to take me. So four day ago she got drunk and decided she was going to come to my room and start an She wakes me up like an hour later, and ask why I left a dish in the sink She did end up throwing it at me after teasing me with it; trying to make me flinch. The police came and then left I went to school the next day and one of my counsellors came in to ask me what happened, if I had a place to go, if I felt safe/comfortable at home, etc. When it came down to the last question I wasn't okay...the only place I feel slightly safe in the house is in my room. So I said no and told them why when I got back from school my mom was their(shes suppose to be watching my dads house, and has only been here on weekends) and she was with a lady from cps( who I found out is now my caseworker) she talked to mom, then me, then my younger brother. after that day she told me she was going to stop my counselling, which she did today. I don't know what to do my mom said if I wanna go with them I can just know she'll never deal with me again. and the rest of my sisters or mad/scared cps got involved and won't help me out. I don't know what to do. [link] [comments] |
Taking in child who has been kicked out (FL, USA) Posted: 09 Nov 2019 12:16 PM PST Hi all, My son has a friend from school whose parents have kicked him out (17M). Apparently he is being abused. DCF is involved but hasn't removed him from the home or anything as of yet. However, he feels unsafe in the home and his parents have told him not to come back. We are willing to offer him a place to stay until DCF/CPS/whoever is able to investigate and until a safe place for him is found, but want to know how to protect ourselves legally -- eg we don't want the parents accusing us of kidnapping the child or anything. If anyone has any advice it would be appreciated. If you need more info, ask, and I'll try to get it to you while keeping this as anonymous as possible. Thanks edit: We are located in Miami if it's important [link] [comments] |
