What to do about my health insurance next year. I have Schizophrenia. Insurance

What to do about my health insurance next year. I have Schizophrenia.

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:03 AM PDT

I'm an American currently on BCBS Federal through my parents. I turn 26 next year. That means I lose coverage through their health insurance. I also have schizophrenia, and my medications are (without insurance) easily in the thousands of dollars a month. I don't know what to do. The insurance offered through my full-time job is around $250 a month, and non of my current doctors are covered under it. I can't afford that. That means I'd have to find a new psychiatrist, a new therapist (I've had this one for four years, I do NOT want to have to start from stage one.) I have an apartment that I share ($400/month), car ($256/month), car insurance ($182/month), and a service dog named Hunter to pay for food ($40/bi-monthly) and the occasional vet visit.

What the hell am I going to do? My parents aren't being supportive at all. My mom is taking the stance of "Hm, well, that's something you'll have to figure out." It's a big circle, I need a job to pay for my meds, I need my meds to have a job, I need a job to pay for meds, I need meds to have a job, I need a car to get to said job.

I also don't qualify for Medicaid because I work full-time. I currently make $9.79/hour at my job.

    I'm stuck.

Which are good FMOs/ IMOs with good back office support, provide sales training and marketing support? Especially which ones provide leads to call upon?

Appreciate your help or any pointers. Thanks.

Birthing costs when not married to father

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:33 PM PDT

I'm pregnant with my boyfriend's child unexpectedly, and while we had no intention of getting married we decided to go through with the pregnancy and plan to coparent. We live together and are in a relationship, but have had a history of breaking up so we are not sure right now if marriage is the right choice - for us or the child. I think insurance is a terrible reason to get married, so I'm hoping not to have to do that. I'm currently on state healthcare, and my boyfriend gets health insurance from his job. If I stay on state healthcare, the state will likely ask my boyfriend for half the birthing costs out of his pocket. If I switch to a Marketplace insurance, will he still have to make birthing cost repayments? Do we have to get married?? We live in Wisconsin, which is apparently one of the two most aggressive states for pursuing birth cost repayments.

I am testing for the OKlahoma P & C exam and am wondering if I should focus more on the general basics of each category? Also do you remember if you had a lot of questions on the Commercial side of things?

Covered CA insurance terminated with Kaiser with no warning

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 08:41 PM PDT

I've been through hell and back with Covered CA for the past few years, but basically I have an autoimmune disease and been under Kaiser for treatment in Southern California for the past 4 years since I went to college down here, while being covered under my mom in Northern California. I've been using visiting members benefits, so no access to Southern California KP.org privileges or anything.

In June, Covered California raised our premium from under $200 to over $1500 and I had to go through calling 10000 different people who didn't know what they were talking about to contacting the ombudsman who apparently solved the problem (basically our income was messed up and we were overcharged because of that mistake). Our bill still continued to stay as $1500, but the ombudsman assured me that my mom had to manually pay $200 a month and it would be okay. Since then, I've gone to many doctors appointments, had lab tests, a kidney biopsy, etc.

Fast forward to today, I tried calling my doctor and the Kaiser person at the business center wouldn't transfer me through because they said they just got a notice that my insurance was terminated back in AUGUST 1. However, I've been to Kaiser for tons of appointments and treatment in August AND September with no trouble and no notice at all that my coverage was terminated in August. I'm trying to get a hold of the ombudsman again ASAP, but the problem is if my insurance was actually terminated, then what steps should I take to get emergency insurance elsewhere and trying to get all of my treatment and appointments covered because they didn't give me a notice that my insurance was terminated 2 months ago?

I just started a new job last week where the health insurance would not kick in for another 2 months and the income is slightly too high to qualify for any government assistance/Covered CA. I'm kind of panicking right now because I'm on heavy steroid and chemotherapy treatment and I can't stop the treatment suddenly without tapering, but Kaiser won't let me get a hold of my doctor without insurance. In addition, going to all of my appointments for the past 2 months, my insurance showed as active which is why Kaiser didn't stop me from getting treatment, so I'm kind of confused on if this is legal to just take that back after 2 months of treatment and say that my insurance was terminated 2 months ago?

CANADA - Health Insurance Claim Audit

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:16 AM PDT

    Hello fellow redditors,

I have recently been chosen for a Health Insurance Claims Audit for a Chriopractor appointments I've made in 2017 and 2018.

I do not have original receipts anymore, and the office is mama/papa shop in that they don't keep files electronically so they'll need weeks (if they're not busy) just to find my records from 2017 & 2018.

Is my health insurance providoer going to think I've submitted a fradulent claim if I can't find the receipts? They also have a note on every claim I submit to 'retain receipts for 12 months in case of a audit'. Well in this case, it's well past the 12 month period for both of the receipts they're asking... What's my best move?

Leaving my salaried job to start a small business. What are my best options to get healthcare for me and my wife?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 12:17 PM PDT

I'm currently a contract employee at a big company where I have BlueCross BlueShield PPO (CDHP) for Medical coverage (I pay ~$85 a week) and Metlife for dental (I pay ~$8 a week). I have my wife claimed as a dependant since she doesn't get insurance through her company. We live in Michigan.

We are both leaving our jobs within the next 6 months to start our own small business. I'm going to be leaving mine first (likely before the end of the year), so we need to figure out how to get independent healthcare and I've never had to do this on my own before so I'm looking for advice.

Where should I begin looking for options to cover both me and my wife for comparable coverage to what we have now? I'm aware I'm going to have to pay way more on my own for insurance, but my plans for both medical and dental are the lowest tier since we hardly ever go to the doctor for anything.

    Thanks!

Insurance vs local electric company... am I footing this bill?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 07:11 PM PDT

New homeowner here, and recently our power went out. Our electric meter melted of old age, and destroyed the meter socket. Contacted insurance, which asked us to go through our warranty company first, who will choose their own contractor. Before this happens we get our own quote from our preferred electrician. Our electrician quotes $5,500. After this, our local electric company comes by and slaps a sticker on our house where they want our new meter, which is about 15 to 20 feet away from where it originally was. Then, when the warranty's contractor does come by, they quote us roughly $7,000 for the new build. We are denied by the warranty company. We have our preferred electrician come back to quote for a moved meter and they quote roughly the same as the contractor. Our insurance has already paid the difference after our deductible for the initial $5,500 quote, but claims we need actual national or local codes stating why the meter needed to be moved in order to receive the remainder of the quote. We have dug through everything, but it seems that this is just how our local electric company wants things done. They have a specific document full of their own safety standards and ways of operation. Most of the codes are jargon anyway to me, as I am not an electrician. Asking for help from the electric company and the electrician for codes, but the insurance rejected those we gave. We had been out of power for 3 and a half weeks before we finally got everything up and running, and would love to be done with this and not pay close to $5,000. Are we out of luck on getting help from insurance at this point?

    Michigan Life Insurance Exam

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 10:36 AM PDT

I've recently passed the SIE, Series 7 & Series 66, and am now working towards obtaining my insurance licenses for the State of Michigan.

Life, Accident and Health Producer (16-80) Variable Life and Annuities Producer (16-83)

I've heard from numerous individuals at my firm, and from others online that have all said the tests themselves are practically a joke, at least in comparison to the exams I just passed.

Have any of you passed these exams?

Any validity to their claims regarding difficulty?

(WC) If i see that my estimate was off, should i adjust the policy now or wait till the end of the policy year for audit ?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 01:49 PM PDT

    Guys hi,

5 months ago we bought work comp premium providing following estimates :

$15,000 for 1st workers class (rate 0.39) and

    $30,000 for 2nd workers class (rate 11,98)

    We already reached

$9,200 for 1st workers class and

    $39,410 for 2ndt workers class

2nd class is much more expensive than 1st and we already surpassed estimate and it's been only 5 months.

Should we outreach to our broker to adjust the policy now ? Or should we wait till end of the policy year (another 7 months)

Details: it's our 1st WC policy, NY state, NYSIF.

    Calculation of motorcycle premiums

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 04:12 PM PDT

Does anyone know whether including engine displacement in the calculation of motorcycle insurance premiums is standard practice in the insurance industry?

I live in Canada, and my public insurer, the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia, calculates motorcycle insurance premiums based on engine displacement (in cubic centimetres) in addition to value (as declared by the owner) and driving and claims history. Motorcycle classes are:

    • Up to 110cc
    • 111 – 400cc
    • 401 – 750cc
    • 751 – 1150cc
    • Over 1150cc

Personally, I do not see the connection between engine displacement and risk, which is normally the primary concern of insurers. For example, I would see a large touring bike as less 'risky' than a small displacement sportbike from a displacement perspective, (although the larger bike might be more valuable). I would think the style of bike would matter more than the engine displacement.

Tips for interviewing for a claims adjuster position?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 09:04 AM PDT

Hi all! I'm hoping there are enough people in the auto insurance industry watching this sub to give me some good advice. I've landed an interview for an auto claims adjuster position and I was hoping to get some tips from people who have either had that job or a similar one, or been in a hiring role with an insurance company. I usually interview pretty well, so I'm fairly confident, but any extra advice helps. Is there anything in particular they're looking for? Anything you should absolutely avoid saying? Thanks in advance!

    Rear ended by drunk driver

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 11:06 AM PDT

Recently got rear ended by a drunk driver in NJ. I was driving my weekend car, I've had no accidents in my entire driving career so I only had liability on this car. The driver of the vehicle that rear ended me was arrested at the scene and the police report confirms that he was intoxicated and he was given a DUI ticket. The driver that rear ended me called his insurance company and filed a claim against me saying that I backed into him. I have dash cam footage and the police report stating that he was the major contributing factor of the accident. My insurance company doesn't want to deal with it since I only have liability, they gave me his claim number and told me to call his insurance. I've been trying to get in touch with them calling 3x a day for the past two weeks and haven't gotten anywhere. How do I proceed with this?

Friend is going to buy a used car from a dealership this weekend, friend doesn't have car insurance, how to deal with this?

    Posted: 03 Oct 2019 01:14 PM PDT

My friend doesn't have car insurance, but his mom does. Can he use his mom's insurance, or is there a way he can get temporary insurance for the car, and then get his own auto policy later?

Or is it even possible for me to show my insurance and drive the car off the lot? Thanks!
