What are some things you do to make yourself feel better about your debt?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 04:26 PM PDT

I am so TIRED of letting my student loan debt control my emotions. I wake up anxious almost every day and constantly worry about my debt. So, I've been working on things to tell myself/figure out to feel better. Here are what have so far:

-Signed up for an IBR but will make what my normal payments should be (if I can), that way I don't have to worry about capitalized interest down the road later while also knowing if something comes up one month I don't HAVE to pay the full amount

-Used a pay off date calculator to figure out if I get my life together enough to pay even $70 extra a month on private loans it will knock 5 yrs off

-Think about how much it will help to put my tax refund toward each toward loans because that's money I don't have in the present anyway so I can't really miss it

-Just because I'm stuck in a crappy paying job right now doesn't mean I'll still be in one 1-2 yrs down the road

-I'm luck to at least have a job that's above min wage

-Second jobs and side gigs can always be procured for extra income

What are some things you do/tell yourself?

Is it better to refinance both private and federal loans together or pay them off separately?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 01:34 PM PDT

I'm reaching the end of my grace period and will have to start making payments on these damn student loans. I'm trying to decide whether it makes more financial sense to make monthly payments to my private Sallie Mae loans and Great Lakes Federal loans separately or together.

I'm lost here so any advice/suggestions/articles are much appreciated :)

I'm currently at 4.4% fixed for a 10 year term. Can I find a refinance rate that is better than this for the 10 year term period?

I'm looking to refinance to lower my interest rate. I live near First Republic but I don't like all the requirements to get their low rate. Any refinancing company that offers better than 4.4% fixed?

    Kwikpay Possible Issue

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 06:16 AM PDT

I'm using Kwikpay with Edfinancial. They should be automatically deducting the payments on the 4th of every month. I checked today and it says I'm past due X amount ( I have kwikpay take out more than is needed every month so that I can tackle the debt faster.). Will it always show up as past due since I guess the payment is in process or what? I went to make a manual payment and it says I owe 1.5x the regular amount (the remaining balance of this month plus next month).

Will consolidating multiple loans close accounts?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 03:10 PM PDT

I have 13 different loan accounts (dont ask)

They are currently in forbearance awaiting borrowers discharge however I was hit with 50+ delinquent fees for a lapse in judgement where I didnt renew the forbearance (before borrowers discharge)

Can I consolidate those loans into one loan and have the other accounts on my credit report show as closed out/paid?

Is it better to pay subsidized or unsubsidized first or does it matter?

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 06:53 AM PDT

I know subsidized is when the interest doesn't accrue while in school. I'm currently graduated but would I be better off paying unsubsidized first just incase I ever decided to pursue a masters?

Not quite sure how that works, wondering if it mattered. Also, I'm also paying the higher interest rate ones down first of course.

    Thanks for any input :)

    Time to Payoff

    Posted: 05 Oct 2019 05:17 AM PDT

Does Navient have anything that will tell you how long it will take to payoff your loans under your current plan? I'm in REPAYE, so the time period is variable. Thanks.

    Remaining balance forgiven?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 01:39 PM PDT

Someone once told me that if my balance is low enough on a student loan (less than $50), the company would just cancel the debt or adjust it and I won't have to pay it. I'm not sure if I remember correctly but I would like to confirm if this is actually the case. Can anyone confirm / dismantle this? Thank you!

    Final Payment?

    Posted: 04 Oct 2019 10:14 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! I should be finished with my debt in approx 6 weeks :)

I have refinanced with Sofi. Realizing that when you make a final payment it takes a few days to process and therefore, freaking interest. Do I need to call Sofi once I've processed my final payment?

    thx all!!!

    stay strong :)
