Stocks - Is it possible to not be able to sell stock?

Is it possible to not be able to sell stock?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:31 AM PDT

For example, there is a big company and its stock is high liquidity stock. If some people start selling it, the price will go down. If the price goes down, others will sell it too. Is it possible, hypothetically, that no one will want to buy this stock, and people are not be able to sell it? Does it mean the price will reach 0? Does it mean the company will go bankrupt?

Is it bad to just totally make stuff up in investor presentations (re: HAS)?

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 05:03 PM PDT

In Hasbro's investor relations presentation at Goldman Sachs https://investor.hasbro.com/events/event-details/goldman-sachs-future-esports-and-video-games-conference

they bragged that their newer digital version (Arena) is top 5 on Twitch. Actually its number 26 (and that is with zombie bot views).

Is it bad to make stuff up in this sort of presentation?

Survey: Is creating a custom alert service worthwhile?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:40 AM PDT

This is NO spam/ad - I'm just interested in finding out if this would be a useful service in general!

Apologies if this is considered off topic, but I was thinking the best way to find out if I am on the right track is to ask you guys. I am trying to find out if it's worthwhile to offer a custom alert service, mostly to traders - meaning:

People would be able to monitor EVERY website (no matter if behind login, has captchas etc.) for any changes (e.g. "Elon Musk tweets something containing the word 'shorts'" or "The first paragraph of a page contains a number higher than 80 and was posted less than 1 hour ago" etc.). The alert would come via any channel (email, WhatsApp, SMS, API, whatever).

Is this something you'd be interested in?

Your feedback is much appreciated! 🙏

    CFD leverage calculation?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:11 AM PDT

I'm using a spreadsheet to calculate position size. With CFD margin of 20% and cash of $5000, should I put my account size as $5000 or $20,000? I am using 1% risk per trade.

    • Eg $5000 account for a CFD of $95.74 and a stop of $92.71: I can buy 17 shares. Have initial margin impact of $325.45 and margin maintenance of $162$.72
    • Eg $20,000 account for a CFD of £95.74 and a stop of $92.71: I can buy 67 shares. Have initial margin impact of $1282.65 and margin maintenance of $641.32

    Advice on investing

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 01:14 AM PDT

    Hello guys,

I have been investing in Vanguard S&P500 ETF.

I have recently discovered IShares S&P500 ETF.

    The Ishares s&p500 is cheaper that Vanguard's(around 29 vs 52 for vangaurd's).

Is it logical or normal to compare these two etfs on the market value?

A Random Walk Down Wall Street. Is it a good read?

I've seen many people say a lot of other books are complicated and this one is easier to grasp. Thoughts?

    Quick question:

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:50 AM PDT

To all long-term investors of this subreddit, how much money have you gained/lost since you invested in your first stock?

I'm reasonably new to investing, and I'd just find it interesting to know how much return average investors (being you guys) have gotten since they first started investing.

A one number/word answer is all that's needed guys.

emitting new stocks when already public?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:46 AM PDT

    hey, just curious:

if a stock is public already but want to emit new stocks (probably to expand business)

do you think new investors will be able to purchase the stocks at a higher price or lower price than current shareprice?

    should I sell now?

If Reddit were ever to go public, it would be a nice gesture to issue shares to users with a certain level of Karma as a way of saying thank you for helping to build the community. (OG Karma, not habitual reposter karma)

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:32 PM PDT

I think it makes sense. Announcement of something like this would cause a surge in community activity and would validate all the hard work that people have done over the years engaging in discussions and sharing interesting information to help make Reddit what it is today. It would be a nice gesture that could pay off in the long run. Make them non-voting shares, SNAP broke the ice enough for that issue.

I know there are loads of Karma bots and reposts, but some sort of algorithm for weighing Karma based on post history would have to be applied to fit the rules.

    Just a thought.

Depositing ALL my money to IB. How safe is it?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 01:39 AM PDT

I am thinking about investing all my money into stocks and bonds. I live in Romania and the only good broker that accepts my country is Interactive Brokers.

However I am a bit cautios about/affraid of depositing my lifetime earnings to a web platform.

How safe is IB? What happens if they go bankrupt? What else could go wrong?

I want to know what to do when backtesting.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 07:22 PM PDT

What i do when i backtest is to find out if a stock is strong or can bounce back after panic selling in the market. For example, in Aug 2019, the market was selling and i noticed that some stocks had a strong bounce back in Sep 2019 onwards. I'm interested to know how to make my backtesting stronger and what else should i look out for. Thanks in advance.
