I'm going to try to state this as calmly as possibly.

My father has cancer, walks with a cane/wheelchair, and has a port for his treatments that is a tube from the side of his chest going to his heart. We came to this country 20 years ago, both my parents speak english well with an accent that is not so thick people have difficulty understanding them in our city (New York) facing the customer directly at our shop. They sometimes get syntaxes, plurals, and slang wrong, but it's not hard to figure out, my father read the times daily and has given lectures at a college. I'll gladly post an audio clip of them speaking if needed. However, the cancer and medication make him very soft spoken, and his hearing isn't that great (he's nearly 70) and when very upset or flustered, can have a hard time finding the right words.

Today, they were flying from TN (I don't want to name the airport yet, but if needed will do) where my sister and her family live, to Houston, TX, where my father is undergoing some experimental treatments for his cancer. He had permission to travel, and with him brings a note from his oncologist from home (Brooklyn, NY) and in Texas, which includes a diagram of the port but not a full list of medication (which I will request from his doctors tomorrow) He also brings a printout from the TSA about traveling with a port and cancer which I will find the exact link to when I get more info.

My parents arrive 3:45 to a Tennessee airport for a 6:00 flight. Both parents have TSA pre and get on line at about 4. They are told to get out into the other line, they show their tickets, and the agent consults another while they wait, the other agents letting people past them. The agents start questioning my father on where he is going, his name, the address on the ID, etc. My father is having difficulty understanding the agents accent, which is very thick, and the agent is responding by speaking louder and louder and more drawn out, making it even harder to understand. Meanwhile I assume he is not speaking his best English, either, as he is flustered and has been standing a while now, but he is trying his best. I'm not sure if they asked about the port at this point but my father tries to give them the info and doctors note he has brought, which I think adds to the confusion. They wave him away, scribble something on his and my moms ticket, and eventually get escorted by a third agent to the precheck line. They don't know why someone walked them to the line, it wasn't to help my dad walk or anything.

Both parents put their things on the scanner, and an agent tells my dad to remove his kufi (he does) and gets a consult with another agent if my mother needs to remover her hijab (she doesn't, as they finally agree on, but later while patting her down, my mother says they nearly pulled it off several times.) They go through the bags and bring out my fathers medication and tells him he needs prescriptions for it, he gives them the notes, they say they will hold it until after the pat down. My father says thats ok, again reiterates he has a port and they cannot touch it. He calls it a 'device' at one point which causes the agents to start speaking loudly at once, my father stands with his hands in the air while my mother tries to explain. He tries to show it to them and they yell at him to 'not undress' (His first has a button front placket, he literally undid one button and pushed to the side, not 'undress' at all.) They take him into a small room away from my mother. He is roughly pated down 'like you would in a prison' (still unsure what exactly he means) but it took much longer than expected. The agent starts pressing hard on his port and my father cries out. The agent begins to lecture him and say it's needed and they have to figure out what it is, at once point trying to pick up/pull at the port.

My father has survived escaping genocide in our home country, survived bomb blasts that killed his parents and most of his family, has buried his only son, and has never once in my lifetime cried in public. I have literally never seen him cry, only my mother has, once. He couldn't stop himself from the tears, and he cried with pain.

He tells the agent to stop, he is told to stop being 'aggressive' (again, he is a 5'7, 115-25 lb cancer patient who has never raised his voice or not cooperated) The agent keeps going, pressing hard on his legs, causing his knees to buckle and he falls to the floor. The agent stops abruptly, they help him to his feet and offer a chair. My father is white, shaking, and still has tears. They bring my mother into the room, she had already been roughly patted down herself but is fine. They wait together for another 20-30 minutes, without any of their belongings or phones. They agents finally come in and say they can go board their plane, and give a halfhearted apology for 'taking security seriously.' They take their bags, which are missing my fathers medication. He asks for it and after another 10-15 minutes or so, he gets it back. By this point the plane has left. They go to the ER to see if port is damaged and for pain medication.

He has now missed a very important scheduled cat scan and consult with his oncology team, and risks getting put out of the treatment plan, as well as possibly getting charged for not calling 24 hours ahead to reschedule, issues with the insurance, etc. My father is in incredible, needless pain, in a strange city hospital. Port is OK but they want to check him out again before flying.

I would like to know what the best course of action to take to ensure my father can fly comfortably out of this airport and get to his appointments, for one, and secondly to ensure he does not lose his place in the study. If he is kicked out of the program, if we are charged for this appointment or cannot reschedule for a long time (which may not be worthwhile at this stage) can we sue the airline for the cost of that? Can we request they pay for this checkup/stay in the local hospital tomorrow? They have already said the tickets are refunded when my mother called the airline but she has no checked their bank account yet. I am getting all of this second hand from my mother (and third hand from my sister) so I have tried to make a summary of all relevant details that I can go over with her later, so I'd love to know what relevant questions to ask as well. My family is very quiet, I don't want to do anything to bring any more attention to us (like tweet at the airline) as that would be incredibly upsetting to my father. I would if that is the only option, however. I don't know if it's relevant that we are Muslim, either, I assume thats why they got so upset when he said it was a medical 'device.' My father is an absolutely upstanding man who has done so much for the refugee community, other small business owners, and our neighborhood and worked hard to rebuild and help others after 9/11. He doesn't deserve to be treated like this, nobody does. I would love some advice. Apologies for length. Edit- I do not know if this is correct flair, if you want me to change it please advise.

My adoptive parents stole over $96k of my biological sisters and I’s inheritance from our great grandfather (Oregon).

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 06:53 AM PDT

At 18 I was kicked out of my adoptive parents home even though I was paying them rent because we got into an argument over my inheritance for college. I had found out there was none left of the ~$96k to be split between my sister and I. They were tasked to invest it and let it grow when I was around 12 but instead remodeled parts of their home, purchased new cars and a travel trailer, and whatever else they did.

My car had just threw a rod, so I was homeless and without a car for three months. It was my rock bottom, I attempted suicide twice and lived off credit cards until I was able to pick myself back up enough to move in with my biological grandparents.

I've been pushed to pursue legal avenues in regards to this, but a combination of cost and my sister still living with them at the time stopped me from pursuing them. However, I've been told none of my 5 siblings are currently living with them now and even though I'm still in a financially sticky spot, it might be worth it to see what I can do.

    My questions are this:

What kind of attorney would I seek?

How do attorneys work in regards to $$?

It's been 5 years since this all went down, is it still worth pursuing?

    I appreciate all help.

Was this considered brandishing a firearm - Texas

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:04 AM PDT

It was 9pm at night I was getting gas and I hear someone yell out "Can you lend me a hand?" I turn around to see three men walking up to me but one with his hand behind his back. Not wanting anything bad to happen I unholstered my firearm but kept it pointed down at the ground and told them "Stop right there and you can tell me what you need help with." They suddenly stopped and walked away and thats when I saw he had a bowie knife behind his back. What I did was it considered Illegal?

Prosecutor Banned me from Police Auction with my seized property.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 05:12 AM PDT

In 2016 I had some property seized, yesterday Saturday, 28 2019, in Sandusky, Ohio. They had a police auction containing these seized items. On the day of the auction the prosecutor had the police department contact me and tell me that I will not be able to bid and I cannot have anyone bid for me...Well I went to auction and the prosecutor was there. We argued for a few minutes, I asked her what law would I be breaking if I bid.. no real answer was given. So my question is.. If you have property seized can you bid on it at a public auction? and If I am legally allowed to bid what can I do now that the auction is over.

[NC] Neighbor’s neglected koi pond is making our yard uninhabitable.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:33 AM PDT

Our neighbor installed a koi pond in his backyard a few years ago. About a year ago, his filter or pump or something broke. I'm not sure exactly what it was but he mentioned it to me at one point. He never got around to fixing it and now he just has a stagnant puddle in his yard that is a breeding ground for gnats and mosquitoes. It is impossible for us to even go outside in the evening without being immediately swarmed by insects. I've asked several times when he was going to do something about it and he always says he's working on it. It is getting to the point now that we can't even be outside for extended amounts of time without being eaten alive. Do we have any recourse?

(US - Utah) Girlfriend's Father Won't Turn Over Her Social Security Card, Passport, or Birth Certificate

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:48 AM PDT

My girlfriend (mid-20s) comes from a very traditional Asian family. Her abusive father "will not let her" move out until she is both finished with graduate school and married. Her father is extremely emotionally abusive with her and physically abusive to her mother. After years of this, she is finally looking for a full-time job so she can move out and do everything on her own.

Her father keeps her Social Security Card, Passport, and Birth Certificate locked up in his office at home. She has started talking to her parents about moving out, and her dad has openly threatened to disown her, take her car away (it is in his name, so this is fine and expected), and never turn her documents over to make her life more difficult if she decides to do so.

When she finally pulls the trigger and moves out, is there any legal way way she can get these documents back and avoid having to get new ones?

    Thank you.

My boss sent a "dead" dog to rescue.

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 08:26 PM PDT

    Tennessee/US

I have worked in a veterinary clinic for the past two years, and I've seen some messed up things. But honestly, none as bad as this, in my opinion.

A family with a dog we'd cared for all its life came in. The family had raised the dog from a bottle, and it was now 17 years old. The dog had stopped eating, stopped drinking, stopped playing, and was having more bad days than good days - which is what we tell families considering euthanasia is what to look for when realizing it's time. In addition to this, the dog had cancer that had metastasized to his chest. They brought the dog in to have it put down.

They did not want to be present for the service, and they wanted mass cremation (the dog to be cremated, no ashes returned to the family). They said their goodbyes, paid for the services which totaled up to nearly $300, and left.

Once they were gone, the veterinarian took the dog to the back and set him up in the back in a kennel, then began looking at dog rescues. When we asked her what she was doing, she said "I'm not killing that dog just for their convenience. They're just tired of him." which was not the case, at all. Several months worth of exam, blood work, FNA and radiology records would let anyone know that that the dog's health had been drastically declining.

It was less than a week, that the dog was taken to a small dog rescue, and the veterinarian attempted to make us send a sympathy card to the family as it "had to be believable." Everyone refused. The veterinarian made sure to tell everyone who had been working that day that they had "better keep their mouth shut, or else."

This has bothered me deeply, not only because my boss has threatened her whole staff, but also because it's incredibly wrong for so many reasons. I know the name of the rescue the dog is in, and when you look on their webpage, there are photos of this dog, but under a different name. I have timestamped photos of the dog being in the clinic, and being taken for rescue after the day he was supposed to have been euthanized. I also have a copy of the receipt from the family paying for the services they never received. I've considered writing an anonymous letter to the family to check on this website to find pictures of their dog, and let it go from there, but this family is extremely nonconfrontational and I really believe they would just let it fly to avoid a fight. I've also considered reporting my boss for it, but I don't know who to report to, or where to even begin.

Do I let the family know of what happened, give them the photos and receipts, and wait it out? Or should I figure out where to report my boss, and report her?

Tow yard wont let me retrieve belongings including tools and cell phone

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:54 AM PDT

I got arrested and my car got towed. Im getting it out on Wednesday (payday) but they wont let me get my brand new cell phone and tools from the car. It's against the law for them to keep the items that were in the car that do not have anything tl do with the operation of the vehicle... I know this much but what do I do when they say I cant get my stuff? Any good advice is much appreciated. I'm located in alabama.

(Virginia) My friend’s husband is considering no longer taking care of his severely disabled son.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:52 PM PDT

I'm going to remove any identifying info and my own ethical issues and summarize this to its most basic form...

My friend married a man with a son who was born with a portion of his brain missing. Her stepson requires constant care and will never be able to have a job or live alone. The biological mother does not have custody and only provides a small amount of child support.

Recently, the husband has been considering removing his son (now 16) from his health insurance when he turns 18 and bringing him to a hospital so they can figure out what to do with him.

The wife and I are concerned if this is even legal and what steps we could take to make sure the child is taken care of.

School housing placed me with a roommate allergic to cats, when they knew full well I had a cat. They are now saying they have the right to forceable relocation (and increasing my rent) under applicable laws. Is this true?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 03:00 AM PDT

EDIT: I was mistaken - it is considered an off campus apartment and is not associated with the university.

    I live in Iowa.

I moved into a school housing apartment on August 21, 2019. When my roommate arrived on August 25 and discovered I had a cat, she promptly told me she was allergic. I immediately called the leasing manager and told them. When I signed the lease, they told me that the person I was moving in with was perfectly fine with cats, as indicated on her roommate preference card. So, the apartment company made the mistake of placing me with someone who was allergic to cats, when they knew full well I had a cat.

I told them I'd be happy to transfer to a new unit under the conditions that a) my rent would be less or equal to the agreed upon rate, and b) I had one or no roommates, like my current situation. Since I am in an intensive graduate program and classes had started on August 26, I was unable to take the time to move all of my things to another unit. I asked that they reimburse me for charges associated with hiring a moving company - since it was THEIR mistake. I also asked that if they were not willing to work with me that they let me out of the lease.

They responded that they did not have any units that would accommodate what we had agreed upon when I signed the lease. And that if I transferred, they would not be willing to keep my rent the same - it would increase substantially. Also, they said they not would reimburse me for moving expenses.

I responded that this would not work for me and that I would not be transferring out. My roommate said she is not moving since she has been there for three years, and that if I was staying the cat would need to go. I responded that I would not be moving into an inferior situation and that the cat would be staying with me.

After dragging this out for a month I received an email from the leasing manager on September 27 saying this:

    "Good afternoon Ladies,

I am following up on the requests that I have received from both you regarding transferring. I do understand the situation that is at hand and want to be able to help the both of you! At this time, both of you have requested to not transfer. If that is the case and you are both okay with remaining in your current situation, I will just drop the conversation until further action needs taken. If that is not, I ask that you two talk among each other to discuss what is best. I do not want to force relocate either of you to a different unit, but am able to do according to the lease contract, if I do not hear back and am needing to do so for harmonious living conditions.

    Per the lease agreement:

"RELOCATION. To the extent practical in our sole judgment, we will try to honor requests for residing in a particular dwelling. If we receive a joint request from you and another resident in your Unit to exchange bedrooms within 10 days after Lease Commencement (as defined herein), and you comply with our procedures and required documentation, you may change bedrooms with another resident in your Unit without being subject to a transfer fee. If a request is not timely made, a transfer fee of $400.00 will be due. Transfer at your request to a bedroom other than the one you initially agreed to occupy may be made only with our prior written approval. For purposes of operating efficiently and harmoniously, and subject to applicable laws, we reserve the right at any time, upon fourteen (14) days prior written notice to you and without your having to pay any transfer fee, to relocate you to another bedroom in the Community. We will assist you in moving your personal property and pay for rekeying if we require transfer. "

Please let me know your decision no later than Wednesday, October 2nd by 5 pm! If you have any questions do not hesitate to reach out!"

My question is this: She says that she is able to force relocate one of us to another unit, and is able to do so according to the lease contract. The lease agreement says subject to applicable laws, they reserve the right at any time to relocate either one of us to another bedroom in the Community.

This would be fine if they were NOT GOING TO INCREASE MY RENT.

Do they have the right to force relocate me?

    Thanks in advance.

are cops allowed to look through your phone? (EGYPT)

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 12:44 PM PDT

the title pretty much says it all, but I'll give out some backstory here. lets just start with saying that I currently live in Egypt but I am American. I was going home from college today using the subway, as I got out of the subway I found a "gang" of officers with assult rifles and guns hoarding towards me and commanding me to stop, the officer leading them asked me where I was heading, I said I was heading home, he asked to see my ID and I complied and gave him the ID, he checked where I live and then he asked me "whats in the bag" I told him it had books and penciles in it, the usual stuff any student would carry, he refused to believe me and proceeded to search my bag, which I'm fine with until he started throwing my stuff around, books, penciles, charger, everything on the ground, then proceeded to tell me to "collect my stuff", keep in mind, the stuff was on the ground, then he said "as you collect your things, we need to go through your phone" I tried to keep my cool and proceeded to tell him that I'm pretty sure that what my phone contains is private and that he's not allowed to go through it, he started yelling "give me the phone or you'll be put under arrest" I pulled out my American passport and told him that he's not allowed to look through my phone and that I complied with his demands even though he scattered my stuff on the ground and told me to collect it. when he saw the passport he kind of backed off and told me that it was for "national safety" I still refused, then he told me that I can leave.

I went home and told my friends and they said that "yeah its pretty common here, he could've put you under arrest and you would've disappeared for a good three to four months, you should be grateful that he didn't do that"

look, I call bullshit, but after thinking about it for a while, riots and protests keep happening here, so maybe it is. but I need some advice on what to do next, is what he did even legal? should I alert the US embassy about this encounter?

    MA (Brookline) demand from landlord

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:16 AM PDT

I (24F) and my boyfriend (23M) live in Brookline MA. We rent an apartment where we are allowed one cat. When our landlord came to visit he seemed surprised that we had a cat and didn't realize it was in the lease. He has had a bad experience with former tenants whose cat would pee everywhere. But in our lease it was written that we could have a cat (and our cat has been good for the 6 months we've been there and has not caused any damage). He must not have read the lease addendum that specifically allows us one cat, and thinks he's doing us a favor by allowing it. I'm fine with this arrangement currently because we haven't had any problems up until now.

We went away for one night for a wedding and had a friend watch our cat and feed him. During this, she was having a hard time opening the door due to sticky keys. One of our neighbors noticed and asked her what she was doing. She said feeding the cat. He seemed fine with that answer.

We then received a call from the landlord telling us that we aren't allowed to leave the cat for a night without us there. We assume because the neighbor told him. Can he legally ask us to not leave our cat overnight? It would be super inconvenient for our occasional overnight trips where just have our friends stop in once for the night and doesn't really seem like a reasonable request.

Employer refuses to provide commission structure despite multiple requests.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 08:20 AM PDT

[United States: Georgia] As the title states, I am hitting road blocks in trying to determine exactly how I am being paid.
I am a commission sales person for a major US furniture company where Rooms are ready To Go. I've been with the company for nearly 10 months and at no point in time, starting with the interview process up through today, has anyone at any level of the organization been able to provide me with an official commission structure. In fact, I have been told on multiple occasions, that "you'll never get that." After a particularly slow month, I took the time to track my sales down to the item and calculate how much I am getting paid vs what they tell us (verbally, never in writing) we are getting paid and there is definitely a discrepancy. It could be because I am doing it wrong or forgetting something, but I've been doing commission sales for a few years and I'm fairly sure I'm doing it right. Because they flat out refuse to provide an official pay structure, I am unable to prove that I haven't been getting paid what I have earned. What if any recourse might I have?

Severely abusive mother gains back guardianship over son suffering from cerebral palsy due to abusive head trauma inflicted by her hand. Please help

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:07 AM PDT

It's been 2 years and 1 month since I was separated from my brother through Ohio Fostercare. I have seen him a handful of times these past few years and I lay awake every night thinking about him, terrified for his safety in result of Cuyahoga Children and Family Services failing him. He is 22 years old suffering from severe cerebral palsy due to AHT (shaken baby syndrome). He had his life stripped away from him before he was a year old by our biological mother and her live-in boyfriend at the time. As a result of them violating his very essence of being and the right to experience life to the fullest, his brain had suffered extreme trauma and it bled until he ultimately was not breathing. He was taken to the hospital with broken ribs and retinas detached from his eyes by the extreme abuse inflicted on a merely 1 year old child. He is now paralyzed, visually and cognitively impaired, and will never live the fulfilling life he very much deserves, all by the woman who brought him into this world and her repugnant company. Our mother has caused indescribable pain and suffering to all of her 4 children including the near death experience to all but one of us, however he is still trapped in her destruction thanks to Child and Family Services. 2 years and 1 month ago my mother laid hands on me for the last time and CPS were fully involved after 16 years of despair, despite many visits in the past including a previous report of the same abuse where police were called. We all were placed in emergency custody of her parents until our fathers could take us in or ultimately fostercare. My 3 year old brother at the time took refuge into his father's arms, as did my 11 year old sister. As for my eldest brother, his father had never met him and has a separate family excluding him entirely since his birth. His father knows of his distant son and pays child support hastily. My brother, with no other family alternative, had to stay with his abusers parents until ultimately CPS threw in the towel and had let my mother take back guardianship of him after court and her charges were finalized. My brother was over 18, she already assured guardianship over him after he was emancipated without his consent as he is physically + neurologically handicapped and the case of her destroying his life 19 years ago was apparently not valid for court anymore. I have a protection order against my mother and have lost all evidence of her negligence and abuse towards my helpless brother. My social worker(s) had wellness checks for him during and after the case. They had openly admitted he was not being cared for properly and told me they would add it to their notes on the case. Over 2 years later, my brother is still swept under the rug due to inhumane services that are intended to ensure the safety of those who cannot help themselves. I am now 18 1/2 years old with no outlet to gather evidence and have by no means the funds for a private investigator at the moment. I am never going to give up and any advice or support would mean the world as I am lost on what to do to build this case in a safe and legal fashion. Please find it in your hearts to consider this tragic violation of human rights to a beautiful soul that CPS and Ohio Fostercare left to suffer in silence. If you've read this far- thank you for hearing my brother's story. Please help me help him. I am absolutely destroyed inside and I cannot rest until he is safe.

My mum is stealing my personal independence payment (PIP) what should I do

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 07:42 AM PDT

I recently turned 18 and I thought it's time for me to take action against my parent so here's a little background on the situation my mum has been receiving my PIP payment on my behalf for a number of years because she thought I would be irresponsible with it but she has been the one being irresponsible. The PIP payment is £220 ($270) per month now this is supposed to be spent on helping with my daily living a travel. But my mum has it all sent to her account so I have seen none of it for the past 2 years if my math is correct it should be closing on £5500 ($6758) and I have seen none of that my mum claims she spends it on my phone bill and food. She rarely goes food shopping and my phone bill is only £38.32 ($47.09) per month so their is still £181.68 ($223.26) left from my payment that i don't see. I know that my mum spends atleast £120 ($147) a minimum on weed per month and she loves to go out all night and leave me and my little sister at home all night. Now that I'm 18 could I get the government to stop sending my mum the payment and send it to my account instead?

    restraining order against brother?

We live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Yesterday my husband's older brother came with a friend at 12 am midnight unannounced and kept pounding on the door like crazy. My husband and I were just about to go to sleep since we had church early the next morning. So my sister's boyfriend opened, and they asked to see me and my husband. They were mad that my husband didn't go to his 14 year old brother's birthday party that day (which we didn't attend because he's cut off his abusive mother). Without permission, they came into our house and argued, shouting a lot and what not. Finally his brother slapped him, and we both told him to leave (with me shouting "You need to leave my house"). My husband said that he didn't ever want to see or talk to his older brother again, but still the brother didn't leave. They stayed until 2:10 am, despite us telling them we had church. His older brother then said he'd be back "often" and said he was going to our college and "can't wait to meet up there." I had wanted to call the police because it was assault in my home, by a person who was intruding. Thankfully we're moving soon and not going to tell anyone where we live. But now I'm worried about the brother showing up at our campus. It's a smaller community college, and we'll likely see him. My husband told me that the moment we see him at campus, we're going to a different campus. I don't want to do that because I love the campus job that I have now.

This wasn't the first time something like this happened. The last time we saw the brother, we had told him we didn't want to see him. So he came and parked his car by our house, waiting for us. My husband immediately told him to go home, but he didn't leave and instead confronted my husband about his mom, and then shoved him. They argued and it only stopped when my husband told him that if he wanted to see his brother, HE'LL invite him, or HE'LL visit, and the brother agreed to that. Clearly the brother knows no boundaries. Is this all enough to file a restraining order?

Herbicide spraying neighbours claim we cannot attach anything to property line fence they claim to have paid for

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 01:49 PM PDT

    Location: Windsor, Ontario, Canada

My girlfriend and I began renting our current house back in May. We love to do gardening and hang out in our backyard. Not long into our time here though we noticed one of our neighbours was spraying herbicide at the base of the chain link fence separating out properties. His entire backyard is a rock garden so he doesn't want weeds to migrate over. However this killed at least 30 cm of our lawn all along that fence. He also cut some vines off of our back fence in the alley that were nowhere near his own fence.

We let it go and decided not to cause any trouble and let our grass regrow.

About a week and a half ago however, we noticed that a bush (roughly 1 m high) that was located along our line fence, but fully rooted and growing onto our side, was cut down. We looked over there and it was sawed off at the base. Not only that but there was herbicide sprayed on our side of the fence and our grass was dying again. Clearly he had trespassed on our property and decided to remove our bush as the tie was had on our back gate was redone from the outside.

We called the non-emergency police line and they took a report. A few days later an officer came by and we told him what happened and he said he talked to them and they apologized that the pesticide "rolled over" into our yard. No mention really of the trespassing but I thought the police speaking to to them would get them to back off.

My girlfriend and I decided we just want to enjoy our backyard in private without interacting with them anymore so we want to put up a privacy screen. Our bylaws here say we can make it up to 2.2 m but while we were driving some posts into the ground our neighbours wife came out and started to angrily tell us that we cannot attach anything to the line fence because they paid for it and our call the the police was a "nuisance call" whatever that means.

I just want some advice because the Line Fences Act is difficult to understand and I keep finding conflicting information on who owns a property line fence and if a trellis or screen can be attached and by whom. Is it legal for me to attach something to the fence separating our properties even if they paid for the fence?

Friends family took $43K from account that was meant for disabled grandfather's bills and medical care.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:55 AM PDT

Friend of mine takes care of his disabled grandpa. Grandpa lives with friend and his family and said friend takes complete care of grandpa. Grandpa's daughter was on his bank account and was supposed to handle his bills and medical care costs. Grandpa recently discovered $43,000 missing from the account and knew it was his daughter who took it. They live right next door and have a new truck, furniture, lawn mower etc. Once they discovered this they immediately removed her from the account and put friend on it. This is in Texas. Is there any possible action to take against this?

Is understaffing a state 24/7 facility illegal?

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 12:21 PM PDT

I am a government employee for the state of Illinois. I work at 24/7 forensic treatment center. The staff are forced to stay for second shifts frequently. It isn't uncommon for the entire midnight shift to be forced to stay for the day shift, where more staff are needed because of normal operations. I have heard the union is addressing this issue, but I'm wondering what the legal steps are. Many staff are dead on their feet after working 16 hours several days in a row with violent patients and few coworkers around to ensure staff and patient safety.

What's going on seems high illegal. I am told that his same thing happened 5 or 6 years ago until the state audited the facility, fired every member of administration, and hire about 100 additional staff.

[NJ] Landlord hasn't returned my security deposit in over 30 days

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 09:47 AM PDT

The 30 day deadline for my security deposit return passed a few days ago, and I haven't received any letter, text, email, or phone call from my landlord regarding it. I'm considering filing in small claims for double as per the statutes listed here. I just had a few questions.

    1. Does it help my case at all if I send a letter to my landlord reminding him of the missing deposit, or should I just go forward with filing the complaint?
    2. If my landlord returns the deposit after the 30 day deadline, should I still go forward with the suit for double the deposit?
    3. If yes to #2, can I cash the check he gives me?
    4. If I go through with the suit, what kind of evidence should I bring? Obviously my lease and the copies of the checks I gave him for the security deposit, but anything else? Should I bring photographs of how I left the apartment, or does that not matter?

Artist is selling paintings of my photographed face without permission

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 11:53 PM PDT

    Hey there!

Human from the US here! I'm in a strange spot and I'm not sure what to do.

An artist from the UK has been doing sketches of my Instagram photos and is even selling paintings. I also just found out today that a painting of me is in an exhibit. This has been all without my permission (or my photographer's).

Is there anything that can be done? Ultimately, I would just like them to stop/not sell art of me

    Thanks

A Predator Has the Police In His Pocket and He's Targeting My Friend

    Posted: 28 Sep 2019 05:55 PM PDT

Hi, this is my first ever time posting here, so I apologize in advance if I do anything wrong but I really don't have anywhere else to turn. I live in a small town in the Southern United States and things like this are the norm.

To make an incredibly long, depressing story short, there is this local business owner who presents as this all-around good guy, donates to charities, helps out the homeless, welcomes people of all kinds, but he is also a serial emotional abuser and a child predator. He was recently in trouble for soliciting dirty pictures from a 15 year old girl but he has friends in the courthouse and in the police department who swept it under the rug for him, I don't even think there was a court date made even though he was harping on about how it was going to damage his reputation.

Everyone in the town has an idea that he's doing this, but no one cares. He's dating girls in the 8th grade and grooming them to be exactly the type of girlfriend he wants out of them and then cheats on them a year down the road when they're stressed out and depressed because he abuses them.

I want to know if anything can be done. He is going to hurt someone, I know he will, he's started messaging the young girl I go to play practice with and despite warnings, she is conversing with him. I don't want to see her go down the same path so many of his other playthings have gone down.

He's preying on 15 and 16 year old girls and the police are wrapped around his finger, what can I do?

Thank you in advance, I hope this wasn't confusing.

My Dad is deranged and I'm scared for my family's safety.

    Posted: 29 Sep 2019 10:22 AM PDT

Let me preface this a bit.

My father has been in and out of prison. Several times for battery and assault with a deadly weapon. He's broken things, thrown punches at my Sister and I when we were kids. Etc.

I'm 22 now, and I still live with my mother and father. Just about every night is fueled with violent yelling. But he hasn't lifted a finger. There are guns in the house, but he's a felon. And we can't find one of those guns. He won't let us in his room.

I'm scared he'll kill me or my mother. He's threatened our lives multiple times, and it's always in violent random outbursts.

What can I possibly do, to get the police involved, or get a case, where I can sleep at night and KNOW he won't be home the same day.

    EDIT: US, North Carolina
