Six months ago I wrote a popular post on r/digitalnomad stating I am a copywriter who makes upwards of $300k a year and that my sister lost her job and that I was teaching her how to do what I do. I made 8 videos (in the post) and she got her first job for $5k a month. Posting here also AMA.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 03:51 AM PDT

Re-posting this. The last post was removed. I have talked with the mods and the case seems to be that I can't submit all the video links individually, so I'm going to submit the a single page where you can look at the videos:

    >>> VIDEO PAGE <<<

    Here's a description of each.

Video One: "Direct Response 101 And Why Direct Response Copywriters Make So Much Money"

Video Two: "Selling, Consumer Psychology, And 'Emotional Manipulation'

Video Three: "Understanding And Identifying Primal Desires"

Video Four: "The Formula For Coming Up With 'Unique Mechanisms' or THE BIG MARKETING IDEA'"

Video Five: How to find promotions that other companies are running (and also use this as a way to find clients)

Video Six: "Show, Don't Tell" Rule In Copywriting

Video Seven: How newbies can get copywriting jobs without a portfolio

Video Eight: Real life case study of somebody who cold-emailed my client and got a job (even with ZERO portfolio pieces)

EDIT: hey everybody. I've really enjoyed interacting with you all and I hope you like the videos. It's about 1AM my time. I am heading to bed. I'll try to answer more when I wake up.

Be wary of building your entire venture around YouTube or any other platform

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 03:59 AM PDT

This is a theme that has often been discussed here, but a new example shows in just how bad of a spot you can end up overnight, no matter how big or small you might be.

This time, a YouTube creator is experiencing a literal takeover of a channel using a copyright claim. His video explains the situation.

Yes, YouTube offers plenty of opportunities and yes, it is an amazing tool (which I too use pretty much as Teo here). But, it can take away things from you and do it instantly. In 2018, my channel was demonetized because it was too small. This is not something that can happen again - it will happen. Other major platforms are no exception and TOS changes will include things that can kill your business in a single update.

Use YouTube and everything else you can to your advantage, but remember that the core of your business must be at a safe place. This is often the harder route to take, but anything else is a gamble.

    Life Hack for Book Lovers:

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 11:46 AM PDT

If you can't afford to buy books, simply do what I do, and borrow them from the public library in your town.

A little known life-hack that goes unknown to so many is the fact that you can practically request any book ever made at your local library. If they don't have it, ask for it, and they can usually get it, maybe not right away, but they'll put you on a list, so that when it does come in, you'll be the first to get it.

I read about 3 to 5 books on average per month, and 90% of them come from the library. I do try my best to support authors out there as often as I can because I do love books, but books are very expensive as I'm sure you know already. If you can't spare the change, just borrow books and learn via your local public library my fellow entrepreneurs!

Shipped my 100th order today after 3 weeks of being open

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 12:32 PM PDT

Been working on a new business for about 9 months, opened my site and got my first shipment of product in mid July, and today I shipped my 100th order. I also got my first international order. So far feedback has been positive, so I hope word of mouth will follow. Now I will go spit, turn around 3 times and do whatever I have to do to not jinx it. Have a good day everyone!

Validating my business model should I do?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:53 PM PDT

    Hi all,

I've got a product and there are two models I'm stuck in. The product involves sellers selling products online. One business model involves charging sellers per sale with a percentage or does some sort of rate per dollar (or pounds if you from the UK). What are your thoughts?

If you're a seller and choosing a business model from the both, which one would you choose?

    Bad Business Name?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:28 PM PDT

I'm starting a mobile mechanic business and trying to come up with a decent name. I like the name Torq (torque) because it can related to motors and fasteners but certainly related to automotive.

I'm thinking TorqMobile but this doesn't really indicate what the business is, does that matter?

Another option is TorqMechanic but that seems lame and doesn't related to mobile in anyway.

If I open a shop down the road, I may call it TorqGarage which seems good to me.

These are all available as .com domains assuming no one jumps on them before I do. Any thoughts on how to improve for better marketing?

Best Credit Card for making large purchases for inventory to buy and sell on the eBay and Amazon market place?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:21 PM PDT

Hello, I am looking to get a new credit card specifically for the use of making purchases about $7,000 - $10,000 at a time for inventory for things to buy and sell on eBay and Amazon.

I was wondering what would be some of the best Credit Cards to choose from?

Sometimes depending on the market for my specific categories, I cannot move all of my inventory aka make the money back for about 2 months.

Is there any credit cards that are lenient for a 2 month or so time line and or have great cash back reward programs?

    Grassroots smoothie shop ideas

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:07 PM PDT

I have all the ingredients and equipment ready to make smoothies and sell to the public. But how would you sell if you don't have the $ to afford a brick and mortar location, or a food truck yet?

Do I set up a stand in a high foot traffic area?

    Sell out of my college?

Any ideas and advice would be appreciated.

I'm 21 and entering into my first year of Computer Science in University. How can I make the best of this situation in order to build-up my network, scout team members for my future start-up team, and find mentors?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 01:00 PM PDT

If any of you have experience with this, would you mind pointing me in the right direction? For example, would professors be worth it as mentors? Is there elsewhere in the University that I can look that's likely better? Are clubs worth taking a look to find team members for future start-up ideas? Would it make sense to use funds from a club in order to fund your own start-up while bringing in your team members as club members? How would you go about finding your team or maximising what a University has to offer in order to get your start-up going? I want to make the best of this opportunity.

Thank you in advance! All advice is much appreciated.

    Looking for a technical co-founder

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 12:47 PM PDT

I'm looking for a co-founder that can lead on the development front. Currentl, we're very early stage with a number of wireframes and a demo.

I'm unsure where I can find someone that would fit the bill? Are there any sources? Would it be more realistic to hire a developer through equity?

    Help!

Edit: more details - right now it's just myself working on it with mentors/advisors here and there. The co-founder would be responsible to develop the web and mobile platforms. I would be a lot more open to having someone on board purely based on equity so as to align interests.

I'm wondering if you guys could give some insight on what you think would be a good route to go. I'm working with a client who owns a site where people can basically have people come to there house and Assembly furniture. My question is what are some good ways for getting clients and people interested in getting furniture assembled. Not looking to run ads at the moment more looking for free ways to get the business known a bit more. Any suggestions on where I can post or browse to see if people need this service.

Is digital marketing as easy as the ‘gurus’ make it seem?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 04:45 AM PDT

It's something that really interests me and so naturally I've been looking into it.

There's so much crap on YouTube and Instagram.

It's like the new dropshipping. Everyone's selling a course and talking about how "you can make 11k a month with no training!!!!!!"

It seems like bull but digital marketing is obviously a big deal in today's digital age.

Is it as easy as it's made seem?

Are they selling courses because they can't make money through digital marketing?

Looking for an inventory tracking solution, can anyone give tips?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 11:58 AM PDT

    Hi!

I manage a seed processing plant. We receive seed, process, and then store it. I am looking for a better solution than spreadsheets. Most inventory solutions seem to revolve around picking, packing, shipping, and then find a way to shoehorn CRM in as well. I am just looking for a better way to track inventory internally, and if it includes a sort of bill of lading system as well, that could also be useful.

Just looking for some practical advice for anyone with any tips or leads. Thanks

    A question about lead generation.

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 11:04 AM PDT

We've been in business for about a decade. We are 100% B2B and have solely used inside sales to generate business. Basically all we do is cold call to generate a few contacts per day every single day. Than I follow up to nurture and convert the contacts to leads. And you know the rest. Deal sizes range from 36k to 72k per contract. Average sales cycle is about 9 months. I sell approximately 20 deals a year. I'm the primary sales guy as I own the company and am supported by 2 full-time, cold callers who've been with me for years. We still call leads opened a decade ago. I make about 20 calls a day while my callers make about 100. I am entirely satisfied with the revenue as the company was started with the original intention of replacing a working income.

My question is I've done zero social media, content or AdWords nor any advertising. Assuming I keep doing what I'm doing but layer in the digital marketing, what sort of effort and expense will I need to incur to generate a meaningful incremental increase in leads for my guys to call? Thanks.

3 months online and... ZERO $0 sales! What is WRONG?

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 11:00 AM PDT

    Hello entrepreneurs!

I came here to tell my story, my struggle and ask for feedback...

With the idea of printing positive and inspirational messages on t-shirts and other merchandise products, I worked hard on the "backstage" for over 6 months (6-9 hours a day, home-office) to make it happen.

The whole selling process entails printing-on-demand products and dropshipping to the final customer.

On the 2nd of May 2019, I put the website online and placing the same products on ETSY.

For marketing, I started with some blog posts (trying to bring visitors), which I gave up for being very time-consuming.

At the same time doing the basic social media I believe the targeted costumers are, like Instagram, Facebook, and Pinterest (recently left behind Twitter).

Here are the market places I'm focusing:
    - Website: https://www.moregtimes.com
    - Etsy Shop: https://www.etsy.com/shop/MoreGoodTimes

After running them for some weeks, I wonder why I didn't make any sales. I know it would take some time, so I hold myself back and took another dose of patience and courage.

In the meantime, I tried different approaches for products, changed the strategies for social posts, products selection, images, texts, headlines and most recently, prices...

I mean, it's the brand I am building, and I'm trying to reinvent it until I find the golden spot my costumers and the market needs.

Unfortunately, I haven't got there. I'm getting a few visits on website/listings and so far I've made ZERO sales.

And I wonder, WHAT IS WRONG?

The targeted market? The product? The concept? Everything?

At the moment, I am considering changing the focus persona and rebranding everything from scratch. Possibly creating all from zero with a different approach, and shortcutting the mistakes I've already made along the way.

That's why I would really appreciate your sincere feedback. I want to keep moving forward... And I need your entrepreneurial help.

    Sincerely,
    Alex

    Pre-production and losing motivation

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 10:45 AM PDT

Hi Friends, long time lurker here :)

I am currently trying to develop a nutrition based Candy however, have run into some logistical/ production issues. After reaching out to multiple manufactures, food development firms and freelance food scientists, I have yet to find someone willing to help me bring my idea to market.

I am waiting to hear back from 3-4 leads which seem promising yet the response time is now nearing over a week.

What should I do in the meantime while I wait for my product to be made. I already have a logo, social accounts and have done necessary Legal work but now am losing focus and motivation. It seems like until I actually have a product, there is not much I can do.

Open to any advice or suggestions :) What do y'all think i should do while I wait?

Viability of a service that allows you to efficiently outsource manual/monotonous tasks

    Posted: 08 Aug 2019 10:21 AM PDT

    Hello!

For the past month I've been thinking of getting into the space of providing a service that allows companies to efficiently outsource manual/monotonous tasks to a trained and cost effective workforce.

From what I have gathered through my market research, there are a lot of huge competitors in the space, some specialized in providing an enormous amount of workforce with really low costs (Mechanical Turk) and other outsourcing agencies that offer Business Process Outsourcing or services for Data Annotation/Transcription.

I live in a country where there exists an almost untapped young, tech savvy, english speaking and most importantly, cheap workforce that is in dire need for temporary jobs that aren't scam call centers. This is one of the main reasons on why I am thinking of getting into this space.

For the past months I have drafted methodologies, gathered research on the competition's processes and crafted a full training program for people who would be willing to work on a service like this. Below, I am narrowing down a list of services that this company could offer:

    • Data Entry, Enrichment, Validation and Categorization.
    • Manual Data Mining and Web Scraping.
    • Data Annotation (Bounding Boxes, Polygons, Lines, Semantic Segmentation etc)
    • Image, Video and Audio Transcription
    • Object Identification and Categorization

Selling Point: What I think would be one of the best things we could offer apart from cost effectiveness, accuracy and speed would be the assignment of a project manager which would get a task guideline from the customer, craft a "supply chain recipe", manage the team that would be working on the task and be the single point of the communication with the customer. This would eliminate the need of creating complicated tasks such as in Mechanical Turk or setting up APIs or other services (in the likes of Scale AI). And compared to traditional agencies that work on this space, we would offer an online platform that would display the process, completion and any other details related to the task itself.

I am a designer by trade but also a hobbyist developer, which would let me utilize my skills to bootstrap a major part of this progress. I have also heavily researched methodologies that would help the company scale as it goes, by instantly hiring other "workers" and effectively training them to get started as possible. I have connections with startups and companies that would be interested in this service through my career as a freelancer, and also people in the US who would be willing to help with sales.

Obviously this idea is not something innovative, but it's something that I think could work with the right execution. I would love to hear your opinions or if you have had any experience setting up companies that work in this space, or if you would hypothetically be interested in a service that offers this.
