Can a job posting require applicants to be practicing Christians? [NC] Posted: 05 Aug 2019 05:37 AM PDT I'm working in a relatively new shopping complex in NC. Neighboring shops (all small businesses) are starting to move in. I found a job posting from one that lists, "Christian actively attending church" and being "comfortable leading devotion" under its requirements. This is a craft/shop job. The technical knowledge required to perform it wouldn't be affected by religion. This requirement seems extreme and just a touch illegal.... If it is, who do I report it to? [link] [comments] |
Falsely accused of a crime, now person is trying to ruin my life Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:10 AM PDT Location is MN. I was falsely accused of a crime by a woman who said I was stealing money. The police were called and she vehemently accused me of stealing thousands of dollars from her. I cooperated with the investigation fully and the woman refused to sign an affidavit under oath for the police, using the excuse "her word should be enough". The police dropped the investigation but now the woman is calling everyone I'm associated with and telling them "I'm in trouble with the law for theft". I didn't think much of it until this morning, when I went to work and my boss met me at the door and fired me. My boss wouldn't tell me a good reason why, but a co-worker told me my boss received a call from somebody about me and that was the reason. It's a small town, so pretty much every shop has received a mysterious call and suddenly don't want to be associated with me. This woman is slandering me and caused me to be fired. There has never been any truth to her allegations but she's still trying to ruin me. I want to try to get a judge to stop her somehow, whether a restraining order or a lawsuit, but I'm not sure if this meets the criteria for that. What avenues are worth pursuing to make this stop and get my life back? [link] [comments] |
UPDATE: The one with the war over the right of way (PA) Posted: 05 Aug 2019 08:15 AM PDT Original post here: https://old.reddit.com/r/legaladvice/comments/cl5f5r/the_one_with_the_war_over_the_right_of_way_pa/ My dad met with a litigator today. The litigator said that my dad meets 4 of the 5 qualifications for having a right to the easement (not sure what all they are, but 80% is passing in my book). Litigator said that this a slam dunk case and will be filing the case by the end of this week. He expects Gray and his attorney to fold once his attorney sees that there is essentially no case. Dad is also talking about selling the property once it's all said and done and buying hunting land somewhere without such vitriolic neighbors. Thank you to everyone who gave me very useful advice and vocabulary. I hope this is as painless as the litigator seems to think it'll be. [link] [comments] |
Car stolen from hotel's mandatory valet parking garage Posted: 04 Aug 2019 04:46 PM PDT Hello, warning this is my first time posting on Reddit so this may come out a bit choppy. For reference, I live in Texas. I recently celebrated my birthday with my family and friends, and we stayed at a hotel. The hotel had mandatory valet parking, attached with a fee. My car was also parked on the sixth floor of the parking garage( the highest floor), and the valet employees still had my keys after my vehicle was stolen. After a day of fun, I returned to the hotel to have my car valet parked. Everything seemed somewhat normal while waiting for someone to attend to me, however, it was a little hectic, due to a large number of people checking into the hotel. After around 20 minutes I was finally attended to, and was told since I already checked in the previous day that I was good to go, so I left my car with the engine turned off. When my friends and I woke up the next day to leave, we went down to the valet area to get my car, and we noticed it was taking a long amount of time for them to get my car. After around 20 minutes I complained to the assistant manager that I was waiting for an extended period of time for my car when there was no one else in line. I was told that they could not locate my car, and after another 20ish minute, the general Manger came to tell me that they could not locate my car. After I, my father, and the general manager searched the garage my car was still not found. The general manager then told me that he was going to start looking over the tape to find my car, but by the time I left he only found the time that my car arrived(when I dropped it off), not when it left. I then proceeded to file an insurance claim, and a police report. As of now, I have not received any additional information concerning the location of the car. My parents have also just informed me that I do not have theft insurance for my vehicle. What should I do, and what are the chances that the hotel would be liable for the loss of my car? Edit#1: Something that I forgot to mention was that I had a spare key in the the glove box of the car, however, I did not mention this to anyone. Edit #2: There seems to be a miss conception on what I meant by there not being footage of my car leaving. What I meant was by the time that I left the hotel via a rental car the manager did not yet find the footage of my vehicle leaving. I did not mean that there was no footage of my car leaving the garage. [link] [comments] |
Sued $5 million for a fender bender. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 12:01 PM PDT I rear ended a woman going ~15mph in a merge lane. Her back bumper required repair and there was some frame damage. No airbags were deployed. She was walking around at the scene of the accident, called her husband and insisted on calling the police. Police come, they are confused on why they are called. They make sure we exchange insurance information and I'm told I'm free to go. This claim was originally put in my insurance's "low impact" department. Next thing I know, I'm hit with a multi million dollar lawsuit. This includes ~2mm in pain and suffering/emotional distress and a property damage claim that is 4x the value of her car (mind you, the car wasn't NEAR being totaled). Given these details, will this stand in court? Please note this is in California. My insurance will defend me on my behalf but I am looking for some peace of mind here. Thank you for your help. RugDoctor Rental never returned Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:03 AM PDT I rented a RugDoctor almost 10 years ago. My girlfriend at the time told me she had returned it. I just found it in the storage space under my stairs. It's stamped with "do not resell" and all kinds of labels and stickers about how it remains the property of Rug Doctor and stuff, and stares that if you have it, you'll be prosecuted.
I've done some google searching but no luck finding information as to what actually happens in my situation. I don't want to keep the damned thing but I also can't afford to get a lawyer or fight prosecution, or pay some huge bill for having the thing for a decade. Part of me just wants to stick it back under the stairs, and then one day, I'll die. Pics of labels on this thing: https://imgur.com/a/9Yp3S90/ Edit: Thank you very much to everyone for your advice. Not sure how I'm going to handle it yet. Probably will call the number and find out what they have to say sometime in the next couple days. [link] [comments] |
[MI] I skipped my jail sentence, where do I go now? Posted: 04 Aug 2019 09:13 PM PDT Ik I am in the wrong. Back in 2016 I was sentenced to 2 months in jail. Not making excuses but I ended up driving my family down to Texas to start over for when I got out. They would stay with my family and I would serve my sentence. Well, things didn't go as plan. We got there safely but, I'm an alcoholic and I drunk myself to the hospital. With no money and no way back, I never reported back. As the drunk I was, I coward out and stayed here. I got sober and actually became a good husband and father. I am now at work but I can no longer take constantly looking over my shoulder. My question is can I serve my time in Texas or do I have to go back to Michigan. Tldr: i got alcohol poisoning and couldn't make my scheduled turn in at the county jail. Been on the run kinda for years. Want to know if I can serve in state rather than out of state. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 10:26 AM PDT I've been a licensed hairdresser for about 10 years now. I'd say that I'm pretty well versed in the cosmetology laws in my state but this situation I've just uncovered via the license verification site for PA has me a little baffled. I started working for this small salon one year ago as a W2 employee. I make 50% commission of the services I perform and as far as I know my boss takes my taxes out of my biweekly direct deposit. (Side note/different battle: My boss does not pay me minimum wage to make up for the weeks that I don't meet minimum wage requirements. I thought that was just part of the hair biz, according to Google I have rights and I should be entitled to the back pay. I know it's only minimum wage but lemme tell y'all, summers as a hairdresser are painfully slow and I can use that extra few hundred dollars) About 6 months ago my boss demanded that my license be kept on the front desk. It seemed like pretty standard salon protocol but I realized a few weeks ago my license and the license of a girl who no longer works there are the only two licenses displayed. My boss' license is nowhere to be found nor is my other coworkers license. The other coworker has disclosed to me and my boss a number of times that his license is expired, has been for a good year and a half and that if state board comes in for an inspection to say he's just the assistant. It's fucked up that my boss lets him get away with that and just about anything else honestly but if there are any other Philadelphians reading this we have that "stay in your own lane, mind ya business attitude". Out of curiosity a few weeks ago I decided to look up that coworkers license, it's still expired. I then looked up my boss' license under her current name, previous married name and maiden name, she's only found under her current name with an expired temp license. The expired temp license expired in 1998. I then looked up the salon's business license to see if there's at least that, nope. I tried looking it up via the salons address and the salons that existed there years ago came up. I even tried looking it up by the LLC she sometimes gets mail and nothing. I literally don't know what kind of business I've been working at for the past year but it's not a licensed salon and seems really, really shady. I've tried getting through to the PA state board to talk to an actual person but I keep getting the voicemail and nobody's returned my call yet. I took a look at PAs recent disciplinary actions for all professional licensees throughout the state and the closest thing I've seen to this situation was an aiding and abetting an unlicensed salon with some pretty hefty fines for that individual. So what should I do here? Is this worth talking to an employment lawyer? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:59 AM PDT My grandfather is blind in one eye, can hardly see out the other one, and doesnt wear glasses. He can hardly hear anything anymore, he has hearing aides, but doesnt wear them out of vanity. He's a terrible driver, but never admits it, everyone else is the asshole driver. When asked to not drive he immediatelly gets very angry, and practically screams at his whole family to drive. My mother, sister, and 3 of my uncles all agree that he cannot drive correctly. Literally every time he drives we have to scream at him to stop him from going over the line and hitting someone. He seems to always be over the speed limit, he passes people on the right, he takes turns at 30mph, he passed someone on the right IN A CROSS SECTION just because they didnt go foreward fast enough. Is there anything I can do to maybe have him take a drivers test or have his liscence taken away. For my safety, his own safety, and the safety of others on the road. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:59 AM PDT Two months ago a tree fell on our apartment, damaging the kitchen roof and preventing me and my daughter from living in it due to the potential risk of the roof collapsing further. Since then, we have been staying at a friend's place until repairs have been completed, or so I had planned. Our apartment is owned by a third party landlord, who owns several other apartments within the complex. Initially, a few days ago, the landlord would have allowed me to pay the same rent within another apartment so we would have a place to stay until roof repairs were complete. However, they suddenly changed their minds, and now I wish to take legal action against the landlord for neglecting to provide a place to live. Is this possible and if so, how would I go about this? I live in the state of Georgia within the US if this is relevant information. [link] [comments] |
Landlord says I forfeited my security deposit by smoking on the porch. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 10:28 AM PDT I'm in Upstate New York. I smoke. I never smoked in the apartment. From time to time while smoking on the porch, my landlord would say hi and and we might talk about the weather or whatever. He never once said that I shouldn't be smoking on the porch. Now after I moved out he's pointing to a clause in the lease that says if I smoke on the porch at all, I forfeit the entire security deposit. How can I fight this? [link] [comments] |
Am I responsible in any way for a minor accident that one of my subcontractors was involved in? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 06:19 AM PDT So a few weeks back, one of the guys who works for me, we will call him B, hit someone's parked car at our shop, which is a rented property. Important to note, B is a subcontractor, meaning he uses all of his own equipment to work for me. He was in his own personal truck when he hit the car. The car belonged to a guy I have never met, who was letting this other guy, A, drive it. A worked for me for about a week, but then basically dropped off the face of the earth. His phone was shut off, wasn't replying on facebook, I had no way to get ahold of him to come get his car. Well about a week after B hit the car, I finally got in touch with A, and told him about it. I told him B was claiming responsibility since it was his mistake in his vehicle, and i helped A get B insurance info. I thought that was the end of it. Last friday someone came to my door (my house, not my shop) and left a progressive business card and a handwritten note saying they are investigating an accident please call them. I didnt get it until after I got home, and havent heard back from progressive about what's going on. The only accident it could of possibly been was what I mentioned above. There's no way I'm responsible am I? TLDR; Subcontractor who works for me hit a parked car, claimed responsibility, and then a few weeks later I have progressive leave a note on my door saying they are investigating an accident. [PA] Guys going around Reddit giving away revenge porn Posted: 04 Aug 2019 10:10 PM PDT So on a band I like's sub, someone posted "was anyone at the Philly show? If so I have a question" so I PMed him. He said "I need something to get me through this divorce" and I had no idea what he was talking about. So I left it at that. This was last week. Then, earlier tonight he messaged me saying "are you m or f" and I said m. So he said "do you have kik, I wanna show you something, it's not a dick pic" but I left him on read. He then sent me a picture of a girl and asked if I remember her, basically saying he wants to send me her nudes. I infact did remember her, she was standing right at the front with her son. I feel so bad knowing that her ex is going around sending her nudes to random people. I blocked the guy but I do have our conversation screenshotted. Can I go to the police about this? Child opens door to wrong apartment, gets bit by dog - Whats next? Posted: 04 Aug 2019 05:49 PM PDT Reaching out to this sub for a friend who is dog sitting at an apartment complex. (Ohio) A 5 year old girl opened the door to his apartment (for unclear reasons) and the dog chased her outside, biting her 3 times. She was taken to the ER for evaluation (with bites neck and head). Apparently, her parents were in another complex and not monitoring the child. For context, the dog is around 90 lb shepherd/lab mix. Trying to navigate the situation as best as possible. Thanks in advance for any guidance on this topic. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 12:36 PM PDT I posted this on r/Advice and someone pointed me here. TLDR; My roommate and I can't afford to eat, and a family friend of his is offering me $10,000 if I co-sign his loan for $20,000 to get a working vehicle and get back to scrapping again. Need advice on if this is a good idea or not, and suggestions for other avenues we might pursue. I'm in a rough spot in life right now. My family is struggling with legal issues and having to pay most of their limited income on attorney fees, and I just started a new job after being unemployed for a period. Both my roommate and I are struggling, we just had to pay bills and we're basically completely broke right now. We both get paid on Thursday, but we only have a few dollars to eat on between us right now. A neighbor who is a family friend of my roommate's, let's call him D, is down on his luck as well. The last vehicle he, his mother and father have is on its last legs. The transmission just started going bad in it this morning. The truck's been in rough shape for a while and he's been requesting that I help him get a loan for quite some time, and he's said that he would let me keep half of it at no charge if I co-sign. He has a daughter that he has to get back and forth to school as well. His plan is to get a loan for $20,000, give me $10,000, and use his half of it to get a vehicle he can use to start working again, collecting and hauling scrap. He talks like this is a pretty lucrative business and says he would have no trouble paying off the loan in full. I'm in a very desperate situation and he seems like a stand up guy. My roommate advised me that he didn't think it was a good idea, despite knowing him for a long time and saying he's honest, due to the high risk involved. So, my questions are these: • Is there a way I can bind him to the terms he's agreeing on, like a formal contract? • If not, am I stuck with the responsibility to pay if he can't, no matter what? • If doing this would be riskier than it's worth, can you offer any suggestions for a couple guys who're borderline starving til their next paycheck? Would it be? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:59 AM PDT Let me preface, I have never sued anyone over anything medical and, as a physician myself, I take the decision to sue over potential medical malpractice very seriously. That said, I had a recent experience at the veterinarian where they denied my dog treatment, and as a result, he suffered for the next 24 hours and had to be euthanized the following day. I have already filed a complaint with the veterinary medical board in my state, but I am trying to decide 1) if I should sue, 2) if I have a strong case, and 3) what the costs of this are that I can anticipate (or if I would likely find a lawyer who would take the case on contingency). For me, this is not about getting money from the veterinarian. My wife and I are financially very comfortable. This is about legally punishing the veterinarians that hurt my dog. I'm attaching the letter I sent to the veterinary medical board with any identifiers removed. In June my dog, Wendell, was seen at _____ hospital by Dr. A for a UTI. He has a past medical history of many UTIs that require several weeks of antibiotics to treat. He also has a history of epilepsy and seizes once every 3 weeks. He presented with polyuria, polydipsia and a urinalysis positive for white blood cells. He was behaving the same as with his previous UTIs, all of which have resulted in positive cultures. He had received a single dose of marbofloxacin that I had at home from a previous UTIs prior to this culture so it came back negative. He has had a workup for his UTIs including ultrasound and X-ray. Dr A prescribed a 1 week course of Clavamox and recommended reculture 5 days after his last dose. Wendell's symptoms resolved completely for 2 days. 3 days after his last dose, his symptoms returned. I was out of the country, so my mom took him back to ____ on 7/4/19. On the way, Wendell had a seizure. My mom told Dr. B, the veterinarian who was seeing Wendell that day, it was typical for Wendell's UTI to return if the course of antibiotics were too short and asked that Dr. B prescribe Wendell antibiotics. Dr. B conferred with Dr. A and exclusively focused on Wendell's seizure. My mom again asked for antibiotics for Wendell's UTI. Dr. B insisted that he had negative cultures on his most recent visit (which were obtained after antibiotics), refused to give him antibiotics or to culture him. Dr. B instructed my mom to see our Primary care physician in two days to obtain cultures. My mom told Dr. B that Wendell would be suffering for two days and that delaying treatment would be harmful. She begged Dr. B to call me to discuss the case. Dr. B refused to call any family and said that it was abnormal for dogs to have chronic UTIs and that he needed an outpatient work-up (which she would have learned that Wendell already had, if she discussed the case on the phone with me). Wendell was denied treatment for his UTI. Instead, Dr. B and Dr. A focused on his seizure and gave him IV versed and discharged him home. That night, he was up all night crying, pacing and urinating. The next day, he was lethargic and could barely stand. My wife took him to another veterinary hospital. There, they noted frank puss from his penis, polyuria, polydipsia, and "8-10% dehydration" per their notes. Dr. C said this was likely prostatitis versus a UTI, which would have previously responded to the antibiotics he was denied, but at this point, the infection was unlikely to respond well. Wendell was euthanized that day, 7/5/19. The first hospital denied my dog treatment culture, antibiotics, or to talk on the phone to a family member who knew him best. This resulted in his suffering and death. Upon my return to the USA, I called the first hospital 3 to 4 times asking to speak to Dr. A. Each time, I was told that she was busy and would call me back. Finally after 5 or 6 phone calls over 7 days, she called me back. I asked her why my dog was denied treatment and told her that this resulted in his death. She told me that she conferred with Dr. B on the case and that Wendell was supposed to follow-up 5 days after his last Clavamox for culture. I told her "he never made it 5 days". She said "well he should have waited two more days after he presented for cultures". I said "his symptoms recurred. You didn't want to change your plan at all despite that fact that his condition had recurred and was deteriorating?" She insisted that it was not a UTI because the cultures were negative, despite the strong personal history, urinalysis, polydipsia and polyuria. I told her that there is a principle in infectious disease to never significantly delay treatment in order to obtain cultures. She told me that she wanted the second hospital's records in order to better understand what happened and that she would call me back. The second hospital faxed Dr. A Wendell's records four times. Dr. A never called me back. [link] [comments] |
Tree branches fell on the neighbor's pool cover. Am I liable? Posted: 05 Aug 2019 11:02 AM PDT So my house has several trees on it that are near the fence line, a few years ago our neighbor asked if we could trim the branches that were coming over the fence. We said no, we weren't going to do that, but if she wanted to trim the branches on her side of the fence she was perfectly welcome to, as it was well within her rights. She opted to not trim the branches and one of them broke off during a storm and damaged her pool cover recently. She now wants us to pay $3000-$4000 for the cost of the pool cover as it was "our" tree whose branches that were on "her" side of the fence damaged the pool cover. Any advice here? Do we owe her anything? Edit: this is in Utah. [link] [comments] |
[FL] Car accident in 2015 and just got a letter claiming I’m being sued. Posted: 05 Aug 2019 07:14 AM PDT I reside in Miami, FL and on June 30th, 2015 I was involved in a car accident where I hit another vehicle and I was at fault. Also, I did not have insurance at that time and was given a ticket. There was a court hearing where I and the other driver had to show up, but the other person did not and the case was dismissed. Now, 4 years later I've been served with a lawsuit for that car accident, I'm being sued for the damages of the car. Also, the lawsuit was placed on June 28th, 2019. My question is what are my chances of winning the lawsuit? Also, if the case was dismissed how are they able to sue me 4 years later? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 Aug 2019 03:01 PM PDT So the title pretty much says it all. My friend came home yesterday to see his neighbors with a backhoe digging a ditch. The sole purpose of them digging this ditch is to not allow them to use the egress shared by both properties. He sent me a video and pics of the land deed. These guys have now completely cut his house off from the highway. He has no way to get in or out. The cops tell him it's a civil matter and there's nothing they can do. What are his options. If he has an emergency there, there is no way at all for an ambulance or anything to get there. And sorry if I did anything wrong here. Please let me know if y'all need anymore info. Edit: they've been using it for 31 years [link] [comments] |
Ex wife is hiding my son from me and the police during court ordered visitation Posted: 04 Aug 2019 08:43 PM PDT Super long story. My ex wife and I were divorced in early 2018. My son was diagnosed with a heart condition that required open heart surgery a few weeks before we were divorced. She came to me with divorce papers that gave her full custody and she told me it was best because then he could be under her insurance (Medicaid) and it would cover the surgery completely. I trusted her, like a fool, and signed over custody of my son. I saw him everyday for about 8 months after that. I would come after work or have him over night a few times. The surgery went great and he is all recovered from that now. One day I call to see if I can come pick him up to go to dinner and she tells me that they are super busy and it's just not a good day and we can try for tomorrow. I reply with, "oh ok, I can always come to you and pick him up and then drop him back off at home or keep him overnight" she says no. I dropped it but then that happened about 5-7 more times over the next month. I got upset the last time and said I should have daily contact with him and she replies, justifiably with, "no, I have full custody, I can decide when see him again" This was obviously terrifying and I went back and researched it and found that I could get the custody agreement changed if she either agreed or if we went to court. I don't make a ton of money so I didn't get a lawyer straight away and came to her asking if we could change the custody. This was, obviously, another foolish move on my part and she said no and just brushed me off every time I brought it up. Fast forward 1 more month. I still hadn't gotten a lawyer and was basically begging my ex for time with my own child. One weekend she asks me if I'd like to watch him for the weekend while she and her new fiancé (forgot about this, she met a new guy one month after we separated and then they got engaged 6 months later) went on a trip. I replied of course! I was dying for more time with my son. She then tells me I should just stay at her place because that's where he's been sleeping mostly (he's still only 1 at this point) and it'll just be easier to get him to bed and all that. Remember how stupid I am? Well i agreed. The weekend went great. We had a ton of fun. Ate good food, went to the park, played at the house. I love being a dad. I would give her updates about how he was. She said she missed him of course. She left on a Friday and came back Monday morning and then I left for work like usual. Then my entire world crashed down around me. After work on Monday I asked if I could see him, she said that she had to take him on to the doctor and there wasn't time and then ignored me the rest of the day. On Tuesday I asked again and I never got a reply till that night when she said her phone was broken and we could try again tomorrow. On Wednesday is when she finally said I could come see him. On my drive over to the house she calls me and begins to tell me that when she took him in to the hospital on Monday the doctor told her that he had been sexually molested. She then proceeded to tell me that she had personally vetted everyone that was around him and was positive that I had sexually abused my son. When I asked how she was positive she told me that she had set up nanny cams throughout her house and while I had been with him that weekend she had evidence of my abuse. Remember how I'm driving to her house right as this is happening? Well I arrive and get out and there she is with my son and her new fiancé. She says I can talk to him and so I tried. I tried playing with him and all that like we usually did but it was like someone cut a whole in my body and put a grenade in there that was about to go off. He was acting completely normal and I knew I hadn't done anything at all to him and my first thought was her fiancé had hurt my child but I didn't know for sure so I didn't do anything rash and left shortly after. I made some calls that night and got some good advice from friends and family. They told me to get a lawyer and go from there. They also told me to get a record of his hospital visit. The next day I did both. The hospital record revealed she had taken him in and told them she suspected someone had sexually abused him and she wanted him checked. The report then went on to say that there were no signs at all of abuse but he did have minor diaper rash. I had thought someone else had sexually abused my son up to this point and I was so relieved that he was okay based on this report. I was still in my naive world at this point so I called my ex to tell her the good news. She told me she didn't agree and until she figured this out that I wouldn't be allowed to have contact with my child. I was devastated and I called my lawyer and we started filing motions to get into court. I had to wait 2 months to get into court and had no contact with my son during this. In court she couldn't prove I did anything I couldn't prove I didn't do anything so they gave me supervised visitation until they got some answers. (Supervised visitation at a court ordered visitation center is horrendous btw) I did that for 2 months, met with CPS and detectives. All came out showing they found no issues with me and believed my son was safe with me. This wasn't enough for the judge and she definitely didn't want to put a child in jeopardy so I was given more supervised visitation but I could do it with my parents supervising. Did that for about 6 more months and had a psychosexual evaluation done to show I wasn't some nasty peadophile. It again showed I was not. Additionally I finally saw those videos she had of me that had "evidence" of my wrongdoing. They didn't show anything at all. Just me being a dad. I was singing to him, playing, changing his diaper, giving him a bath. All normal parent stuff. Which all the people who had investigated this agreed with. Fast forward to now. We aren't scheduled yet but we should be going back to court any day now to move on to the next steps. I was hoping toward a change in custody. A week and a half ago I went to pick my son up with my dad there to supervise and she wasn't home. Throughout the day I tried to find her but could not. I called the police and was about to file a missing persons report when they informed me that she had called them and told them she was fine and he was okay too. I asked if I should be doing something and the police told me I had to take it up with family court. I told my lawyer and he said he would file a motion to get us in. I went again a few days later and the same thing. She wasn't there and hours later, after the visitation hours, we finally heard from her. This happened once more on Saturday so three times in a row. No one knows where she is which means no one knows where my son is. The cops just tell me it's a family court issue or that it doesn't fit what a missing persons report requires. My lawyer is filing another motion tomorrow to get us into court but that could still take several weeks based on how slow everything has been so far. I'm very worried she is going to leave the country with my son and then he will be gone forever. Is there anything I can do to make sure she can't take him out of the country? She's already shown she won't follow court orders. The problem is she still has full custody so I think she can get a passport for him if she wants. Please help TLDR: ex wife and I have been in family court for a year over false allegations she made against me. She has been hiding from me and the cops during court ordered visitation times. I'm worried she is going to leave the country with my son and I'll lose him forever Las Vegas, NV, USA [link] [comments] |
Posted: 05 Aug 2019 09:42 AM PDT My company just finished another wave of massive layoffs last month and things have not been improving. There is no work for me to do, so I was asked to "resign" since they don't want to fire me. Thing is I'm worried about this making me ineligible for unemployment. I saved documents of what's been going on and I just finished a performance review which was satisfactory and I recently got a raise. I've never been written up or anything either. I'm not sure how to go about this? I'm interviewing at other companies, but I don't want to risk not getting unemployment. Is there a way for me to communicate in my resignation letter that it's involuntary? I haven't been in this situation before. [Edit] I live in Maine, sorry. Idk how to edit title. [link] [comments] |
Former Employer put stop on check and withholding last check Posted: 05 Aug 2019 01:26 PM PDT I was working a delivery driver and during a delivery the car topper fell off the roof of the vehicle. I was not aware of this until I returned to the store. That was my last delivery so I went home after. Later someone called the store saying that they ran into the sign and damaged their car. The owner called me and demanded that I give him my driver's license and insurance info(they never asked for it before I started) . I refused because the topper shouldn't have fallen off and that it was his responsibility for his equipment to be working. Later I saw that he placed a stop on a check I had already deposited about $172 and I have not gone to pick up the last check I am owed because i doubt he would give it. What are my options?
