How Do I Get a Product Manufactured? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:22 PM PDT I have an idea for a product that I believe with even subpar marketing could be a success. The issue is I don't have a prototype or any know-how for proceeding. Everything I've done business wise in the past has been technology based. Does anyone have any experience or suggestions for how I could proceed about having a prototype built and potentially having the item manufactured? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2019 02:43 AM PDT My partner is interested in opening a pizzeria in a seasonal holiday resort town that would be open for 3 or 4 months each summer when the tourists are around. Shes worked in a lot of customer facing roles so she is good at sales etc. Has anyone any experience in this area? Because I sure as hell don't and I'm worried it could be a very bad idea. I realize a lot of restaurants fail. Or basically the majority of them fail. Margins appear higher for pizza than other types of food, there is less waste etc. So that is obviously a plus. Any guidance from someone with experience of this sector would be great. [link] [comments] |
I'm expanding into house cleaning. Your thoughts. Posted: 01 Aug 2019 07:23 AM PDT I'd like to consult the hive mind again! What do you think about Buy One - Give One, for cleaning services? I live where there are a lot of older folks who have trouble taking care of themselves. If we would advertise as a socially responsible for profit company and offer a free clean for a random elderly person (let's say partner with a food bank, to get contacts for elderly people) after the second booking? If the client is a one time clean, no such benefit. But if he becomes a repeat customer, on the third clean we would show him the short video of us cleaning an elderly persons home and saying to the elderly that we do this because "John Smith" paid for it for them. The client gets to see his impact and he is given the credit for it. Your thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Aug 2019 09:39 AM PDT I'm trying to get authorized as an express shipment member for Ashley Furniture. What that means is they will ship product out to our customers after they purchase our items online. They want a reseller certificate for 23 different states. Including a few that don't accept outside certificates. My employer doesn't know what any of this entails, are there any downsides to applying for a certification in other states like california? Any information would be incredibly helpful. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Would it be faux pas to put my personal link on a clients wedding website Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:54 PM PDT So Im in web development and I have this client and he's getting married soon and asked if I could make a quick site for him and his fiancée. I said no problem and I'm not charging him for it or anything but would it be bad if I put like "site by mywebsite.com" at the bottom? [link] [comments] |
Adding a business partner to double business size Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:30 PM PDT My business is about a year old and about breaking even, ahead of schedule. I just invested basically everything in more inventory so we are currently cash poor. A very very rare opportunity came up to absorb another business, but I cannot come up with all of the capitol because the business is so young and my personal credit is just fair (had medical debt issues, yay America). I have an employee who is fabulous at her part of the business, frankly better than I am. On the other hand, she sometimes struggles with the part that I really enjoy and thrive doing. We both are self aware and communicate easily about what we do. We logically make ideal partners, but I am worried about the complications of adding a business partner at this point in the game. What does she get for what would amount to 1/4 of the business? What do I lose? What do you wish you had known/discussed/had in writing with your partner(s)? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
Best Solution for a Cashflow Bridge Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:03 PM PDT Hey All - My company is growing very quickly and I'm doing tons of business. The problem I have now is that my business does most of it's sales in Amazon and they hold onto the funds in my account for weeks. I am at a point where I don't have enough cashflow to stay in stock for another couple weeks until the Amazon payout. I could just go out of stock for a week or two, but it would kill all my momentum and ranking in Amazon(I have Amazon's choice tags on my products which you don't come by easy). Anyway, I have about 10k in product I need to buy and over 10k just sitting in amazon laughing at me until I can get it. I need a quick solution to get 10k, that I can borrow for 2 weeks and essentially immediately pay off. It seems like fundbox(https://fundbox.com/pricing/) is the best option I've found. It has no early repayment penalties, is only 4.66% for a 12-week plan and principled meaning repay early and they waive all of the remaining fees. I'm thinking about going with this but wanted to see what other people would do in this situation. [link] [comments] |
Nevada Mobile Business License Posted: 01 Aug 2019 07:57 PM PDT Hello all, I am trying to start a mobile small engine repair service based out of Washoe County in Nevada. I applied for a license through SilverFlume and it said I was exempt and don't need a license due to being a home based business. Is this considered home based? Can u legally advertise? Do I report the income? Any help would be appreciated. I have a good customer base already and would love to continue to expand. Thank you in advanced. [link] [comments] |
I was wondering how much do small business owners value advertising? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 06:54 PM PDT I was wondering how much do small business owners value advertising? Is it an extremely important aspect of your business or do you prefer to just grow organically? I just want to understand the advertising aspect of owning a small business. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:07 PM PDT I'm starting a business in Canada and want to outsource a lot of the menial work to Russia. As far as I can tell it's totally legal to do so and shouldn't really affect me much tax wise. Is there anything I'm missing from a tax or legal standpoint? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Any worthwhile meetups in NYC for physical small businesses??! Posted: 01 Aug 2019 06:50 PM PDT Hey Everyone, Go easy on me if this isn't the right sub (this is my first post ever). I'm currently looking for meetups in NYC, more so focused on small businesses and managerial aspects(for a physical store — we have e-commerce but that's not our focus right now). Does anyone know of any groups? I mostly find women oriented meetups (yes I'm a woman but my business partner is a male) so I'm wondering if anyone on reddit knows of any meetups in NYC that are general/worthwhile and still pertain to running a physical store. Side note — I've also looked for entrepreneurship meetups but most focus on tech. Any input would be greatly appreciated...thanks! [link] [comments] |

What are good question to ask sales people in an interview Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:56 PM PDT I'm looking to hire a sales team but wanted to get input on questions. I want to make sure I'm getting a sales person and not someone just good at interviewing. Thanks for your help. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:55 PM PDT I'm looking for a database to help with my mom's seamstress business. She just needs something where she can put the customer's info in- their contact information, past work she's done for them, etc. Nothing too fancy. Does anybody have any suggestions for something like that? We were thinking of using an Excel spreadsheet sort of thing, but she wants something where she can just search the customer's name and their info will pop up. [link] [comments] |

Need Help setting up accounting from sole proprietorship to S-CORP. Stuck Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:41 PM PDT Hey guys, I recently filed my S-Corp papers with state and federal. Im currently using quickbooks self employed and have been advised to switch to quickbooks online and use turbo tax business for my 2019 Returns. Ive got to pay myself salary quarterly which its already into the Q4 im not sure how to do that/where to get started. I know you can do it through quickbooks but thats about it. I also am opening a bank account under the business name and was wondering if I could just open an ALLY online savings account for the business profits and then just pay myself salary from that account. IF anyone here has an S-Corp that does their own accounting I would be very grateful if you could share your setup with me! Thank you [link] [comments] |
Where can I get quality packaging for my retail store? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 01:18 PM PDT We tried a "company" in China to create our bags for our jewelry store. We paid, and we have no bags. Lesson learned there, but we still need bags. :) Can you suggest a reputable shop that can make custom printed or embossed euro style tote bags? We would specifically like satin handles and a bow top closure. We are in Florida, if it makes a difference as far as shipping costs, etc. Thank you for reading and making suggestions. Best Small Business Loan Options? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 01:17 PM PDT Our company is looking to take out a small business loan (ideally around $50,000). We are looking to get a loan with 0% interest for the first 12-15 months. I talked to Chase Bank and they had something like this, but just stopped their promotion. Does anyone know of any other banks or have any other advice? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Landscaping company, worried I'm getting bad advice from my accountant Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:57 AM PDT Partner of a small landscaping company located in PA. We made a bunch of mistakes when we started out, one of which was that we failed to pay all of our sales tax from a few years ago. We've since been up to date with these payments but we still have an outstanding balance of a few thousand dollars. Our accountant gave us an outline of what we still owed and told us to make payments towards that balance as we could. I've been paying it down over the past year now (made over $2k in payments spread over the past ~10 months). I called the state dept of revenue recently and the woman I spoke to told me they have no record of receiving any of our payments. Additionally, they said we have no sales tax license, and that we actually owe a significant balance towards something called a "voluntary use tax." When I told our accountant about all of this, he adamantly maintains that the state doesn't know what they're talking about and that they're wrong. He said they're so disorganized and that he deals with this all of the time. He wants to get a local state rep. involved to try and help us sort this out. I'm so confused and unsure why he can't handle this. Isn't this what an accountant is supposed to do for a company? Wondering if anyone has any advice. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Starter a brick and mortar that is doomed to fail, my gut says get out now... Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:27 AM PDT To keep it rather simple a rash of bad business decisions have led me to the place I am in now and lacking a solid plan has really come back to kill me. I have a 3 year lease on a space that is too expensive for what we will be grossing in sales, not to mention I have completely lost my drive or passion to be involved in it one bit. We have gotten it to the point of almost opening but it will cost me even more time, money and energy that I don't have to get it to that point and my gut is telling me to cut the losses now and get the hell away from this mistake so that I still have the means and sanity to move on to what is next for me. My family and friends of course do not want to see this happen and would hate to see me "give up" but in my heart I know they will hate to see the alternative as well, I am just not prepared this go around. I have truly distilled so many lessons and hard truths from all of this and have a much clearer picture of who I am, how I make decisions and how I would like to see my life go.... but now I feel locked in and basically each day feels like Scrooge being escorted around by the ghost of Christmas future. Can I establish Proof of Income through two family LLC’s? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:17 PM PDT Is it possible for people to establish proof of income (let's say to secure a loan or to finance a home ) between two LLC's by writing checks from one business to the other and vice verse over time? I'm curious to know the legalities and the feasibility of this. Thank you! For clarification: Bob, who owns LLC #1 writes a check of $3,000 to Steve, who owns LLC #2. Steve then writes a check of $3,000 back to Bob. This cycle repeats. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Family business issues and need advice Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:16 PM PDT Hi, Sorry, I'm on mobile and if sounds like a rant, I kinda need to vent a little bit. So we have a family business that my dad started in the late 80's. Everyone works here, my mom and dad, brother and both sisters. I've been working here full time the longest. Ever since I graduated from college, so a little over ten years. And been working here ever since high school. Here's the issues that I'm having. I feel like that being here the longest besides my parents that I am the lowest man on the totem pole. I am not allowed to tell my brother what to do. I don't even know where to being with my little sister, who I've never really gotten along with to begin with. And she is the main source of my problems. This might sounds like I am the a-hole in these situations. But she always acts like she's the better person and is never wrong. Constantly yelling at me to do whatever and doesn't bother to realize that I'm busy with other things or on the phone. Today, I was on the phone talking to a vendor trying to get some issues cleared up and a customer called. Instead of just saying so-and-so called and wants these parts. She come into my office and slams down a post it note with his name and yells "call him back." The list of crap like this goes on for quite a while. Not only do I have to do all the sales, place most of the orders, and I have to pretty much answer all the phone calls too. My dad just wants everyone to get along and I've told him how unhappy I am and that I'm just exhausted. Unfortunately, I don't think a vacation will work. Ireally can't take it anymore. Nobody wants to help they just want to pass everything off onto someone else. I'm not sure if anyone here has had any experiences with small family businesses with stupid issues like this. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
