Horrible experience with road side assitance with progressive Posted: 01 Aug 2019 08:12 PM PDT Yesterday I got a flat tire and called progressive for road side assistance. I pay 100+ per month for auto insurance, including road side assistance. This is the first time in 20+ years I have required assitance from an insurance company. And the one time I need help, I get dicked along for 4 hours. Is there anything I can do about this? [link] [comments] |
Driver Smashed into my Rental Car, How Should I Prepare? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:33 PM PDT Hello Everyone, I was on a vacation in Boulder, Colorado when another driver in the oncoming lane swerved into my lane, pretty much destroying my rental car through Avis. There were plenty of witnesses on the scene that told the cops that the other driver was at fault. The police on the scene charged the other driver with failure to yield to a light, it was at an intersection. The officer told me I shouldn't have anything to worry about, because they were charging her 100% for the accident. I opted out of rental car insurance, because my credit card has rental car insurance built into it, however, they are stopping this service at the end of September (Citi), though it will still cover me. My primary New York State Car Insurance also has rental coverage. Two days ago the woman at faults insurance called me and asked for a recorded statement. I was careful to give them the truth and not say anything that would harm myself (I've worked for many lawyers). I've read much on this topic, the community is split 50/50 whether or not you should talk to them. Anyway, I called Avis, and they told me A) If the other driver was at fault, they will go after their insurance B) They wouldn't even begin to open the claim until 30 days after the crash! I've read stories online were people rent from Avis, another driver who was at fault smashes into them. The driver at faults insurance denies the claim, and Avis comes after the renter. I tried calling my credit card companies insurance company, but they told me not to file a claim unless I get a bill. Is this true? Should I be calling my primary at home insurance? I don't want my home rates to go up, so should I just rely on my credit card company for protection? Thank you [link] [comments] |
What can I expect in an interview for a property insurance underwriter position?L Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:14 PM PDT This is a bit last minute, but I only just thought to ask the Reddit hivemind about this. As the title implies, I have an interview for a commercial underwriting position tomorrow. This is a Fortune 500ish company with about 5000 companies, and sells insurance all around the world. Quick background on me, I am an 8 year military veteran (intel analyst) who recently received my undergraduate degree in economics last month. I know what an underwriter does in general, but I just had a few questions. 1) What type of traits should I emphasize? Or in other words, what is a company looking for in an underwriter? 2) Are there any special skills I should emphasize? For example, I speak two foreign languages fluently, and am very, very good with Excel, decent with MySQL. Does that matter? 3) This is more of a general interview question, but should I mention how bad I want to work for these guys? Because I do. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
I want to go to therapy, but my deductible is $3000. Please help! Posted: 01 Aug 2019 11:55 AM PDT I've only put $400 towards this deductible. This means that each appointment will cost me between $150-$200 depending on which therapy center I choose to go to. What is my best move? I really want to try therapy but I can't afford it if insurance can't help. [link] [comments] |
I have $4500 because I went to the ER. I’m a student with no income. Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:19 PM PDT So last November, I had my first serious migraine episode and I almost passed out. I'm new to the US and so are my friends, so they took me to the ER. I didn't know much, I have a student medical insurance and I was admitted. They have me 4 high dose pain killer shots and I was so drowsy I barely remember. They sent me home in an hour and fast forward today. I just found out I was billed for $9000 and my insurance only covered part of it. Now I owe almost $4500. I'm an international student, I have $64000 loan debt and my dad passed away last year. I have almost no savings. What do I do? Please someone help me. [link] [comments] |
What happens if the drive who hit me is underinsured? Posted: 02 Aug 2019 01:50 AM PDT TL;DR if a driver is underinsured and hit my car and I'm found not at fault at all, would s/he be liable for all the damage cause to my car despite not having enough coverage? Hi, I'm new to the US and car insurance here work entirely different compared to how it does back home so I have a question. I was on customer service with Progressive discussing potential scenarios that might happen, one of them being what to do if I was hit by a driver who is underinsured. Now I know what'd happen with someone who is uninsured, as with Progressive in CA, you can buy something called the 'Collision Deductible Waiver', which means Progressive will pay the deductible for you if you're found not at fault (not sure what happens if you're found at fault though, guess you have to pay the deductible or at least some amount to help repair your vehicle). But when I mentioned what's going to happen with someone who's underinsured, the agent said I would have to pay the deductible even if I'm found not at fault if I wish to repair the damage of my car. Now I immediately thought that's unfair since the underinsured would be the one who hit me, but I have to pay the deductible with my collision coverage to repair my car because s/he is underinsured? I did some research on google saying the underinsured would still be liable for all the damage and I wouldn't need to pay a dime, but the agent said otherwise. Can someone verify this for me? Looking for advice, friends home burnt down today Posted: 01 Aug 2019 09:20 PM PDT One of my greatest fears just happened to my best friends parents (basically my third parents), they lost their home and everything inside to a house fire. They made it out safely, along with their cat, so the most important part is that they are safe and sound, very rattled, but safe. I'm looking for advice on two parts, first is how they should handle insurance, we are in the GTA in Ontario, Canada, I have zero clue about home insurance and they will need a few days to process everything mentally. Any first step advice or process suggestions would be great. Second, what can I do to support them? They are with friends for now but they will need help for a while imagine. Thank you for your time folks. [link] [comments] |
A question about how Business Income is calculated.. Posted: 01 Aug 2019 07:05 PM PDT Hello fellow insurance friends! I've stumped as to the logic on this calculation & google has let me down. I deal in personal P&C, so anything commercial is pretty foreign to me. Here's the formula: Business Income = Net Profit or loss (before taxes) + continuing normal operating expenses to include payroll. I can't wrap my melon around why we ADD the continuing normal operating expenses. That to me is saying "ok you make 5k a week on average and your continuing normal of 5k a week so we are going to sum that up & reimburse you 10k a week". In my mind it would make more sense that we would take the net profit or loss MINUS any operating expenses. Earned minus cost = how much you've actually lost. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:44 PM PDT This took place in NY and the at fault driver is insured with Allstate, I've been told they wont pay out on diminished value claims. Has anyone here dealt with them? Would I be wasting money getting an appraisal? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 06:53 PM PDT My mom's house caught fire and is a total loss. She has replacement coverage. If the insurance company is supposed to pay to return the house to exactly to how it was prior to the fire, how do they account for duplicate coverings, for example, carpet over hardwood floors? Or vinyl siding over shingled siding. My mom's insurer is saying they'll only cover one of a "double covered" surface. If that's the case, it seems to me they're not paying to replace the house to exactly how it was. Their policy is silent, so I'm hoping someone can explain this to me. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 06:46 PM PDT My GF is looking at new healthcare options through her work. One of the plans is through a company called Aetna. One thing we were confused about is the Pharmacy - Retail coverage. It says it covers $20 payable, per day, 12 prescriptions max (member submitted.) what does this mean? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:23 PM PDT Hi, I'm 17 and getting my license this month. I'm in NC and the DMV said I have to have insurance before I can get my license. However, I'm looking up prices and trying to get quotes but wherever I go it tells me I have to be licensed. I tried Geico Progressive State Farm etc. Does anyone have any recommendations or tips? Maybe even a ballpark on how much it'll be. [link] [comments] |
Estimated value of totaled Mercedes vehicle Posted: 01 Aug 2019 04:37 PM PDT Last Thursday, my car was involved in a rear-end collision where the other driver was found at fault. Looks like it's being declared a total loss due to structural damage. We both have Allstate. It's a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLK 250 with about 27000 miles. It looks like according to NADA, it's between $23k (clean trade in) and $26k (clean retail) I bought it as a certified-preowned vehicle from a dealership with no prior accidents or claims and warranty for that was still valid. What should I expect as an initial offer? Also, can I get my registration money back? Paid for 2020 already and that doesn't start until end of September. [link] [comments] |
Low confidence to become a claims adjuster Posted: 01 Aug 2019 01:44 PM PDT I want to take a claims adjuster class eventually and it says I'll get 3 licenses for my state. But other than that, I'm feeling lack of confidence. I dont want to accidentally make a big mess of things or make a big mistake, what mistakes is possible to make in this field? I'm young and only have experience as a barback and busser, so this would be completely different for me. I'm afraid I womt be smart enough or make a dumb mistake and lose my job. Any advice? Questions about collision coverage Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:12 PM PDT CT, USA So i'm getting a new (used) car, only worth about $1000. I'm thinking of not getting collision coverage on this car just because of how cheap it is. If i don't have collision, but get into an accident that another person is at fault for, will i still be covered for repairs or a total loss settlement? I know that if I'm at fault, i won't be covered. Just not sure about the other way around [link] [comments] |
Occupational Accident Insurance [TX] Posted: 01 Aug 2019 05:10 PM PDT [TX] Okay so I was in an accident while performing company assigned tasks. Deemed not at fault. And I just found out my company doesn't have workers comp only a Occupational Accident Insurance plan. Can someone give me the run down on these? What is the typical minimum coverage amount? Are the weekly payouts going to be on average what my paychecks were post accident or are they going to be a set amount or $500 max? Can I continue seeing the same doctors I have been or do I need to see a doctor they refer to me like workers comp? [link] [comments] |
Want to cancel progressive car insurance without getting lapse in coverage. Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:53 PM PDT Quick Background: I have an older car that I had financed through a buy here pay here lot (I know, lesson learned will never finance a beater again, stupid mistake). Today is the day i pay off my loan in full. While i had my car financed, they required full coverage, im 21 years old (hence the high premium), and was paying about 200 bucks a month for full coverage. As of now i am working far from home, and will no longer be required to pay full coverage car insurance now that I have payed off the auto loan in full. The question: The car will NOT get driven by me or anyone else, what is the best way to cancel my car insurance policy without it being considered a lapse? Particularly with Progressive car insurance company if possible. I was doing research, and some places say that if you call and cancel then you may be seen as "high risk" when the time comes to get car insurance again, or have a "policy lapse" and will pay more later when the time comes. If this is true, how do i avoid this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
A $300/year increase in car insurance caused by a change of address? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 12:07 PM PDT I used to commute 120 miles/day for work, but I recently moved from a suburb to another suburb that my work is in (the suburb is closer to the city than where I used to live). My daily commute is now 6 miles. But despite this, when I went to submit a change of address with Geico, they're trying to increase my premium an extra $300 a year!? Does this sound right? Any suggestions on what to do or if there's a way out of this? [link] [comments] |
Progressive improperly added 3 people to my friend’s policy and jacked her rate up. Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:37 PM PDT A friend of mine called me today to inform me that Progressive had added 3 people to her policy claiming she had consented to the changes in her policy. My friend has found no such record of this and would not have consented to this action for reasons listed below. My friend moved from Georgia to Texas last year and only recently got her own insurance policy as she was on her Parents. During this time she was living with a roommate but moved into a new apartment by herself a few months ago. When she applied for the policy, she used her new address. Today progressive informed her that her former roommate (that she does not live with, and two of her brothers (who live in Georgia) are now currently on her insurance as it is believed that she lives with these three parties. My friend has not lived with her brothers in 7 years and her address on the previous drivers license doesn't show an address used by her brothers or her former roommate. She called in to have them correct this however they stated they wouldn't do so without substantiation. They stated she would need to sign documentation agreeing she and her former roommate don't live together, provide copies of her brother's check stubs from Georgia to prove they don't live together, and send them information about her address, otherwise they won't change the rate. On top of all of this, they were adamant that she has consented to the action, to which they stated they had sent an email about this and her non response was the applied consent. I have combed through all emails and we have no record of anything sent by progressive agreeing to this. In conclusion, what is her best course of action to correct this issue given her documentation previous provided should have proved she doesn't live with the people on the policy and their lack of transparency when it came to improperly adding people to her policy. Any help appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Huge car insurance increase, though no accidents or tickets! Posted: 01 Aug 2019 03:33 PM PDT I started new car insurance 5 months ago with one of the companies where you pay per mile, based on how much you drive. (Am I allowed to say a company name in my post?) I've only had my insurance 5 months and it is going up significantly starting next month. I have not had any accidents or tickets. I am on a very tight budget and I chose them based on the quote they gave me 5 months ago. When I asked/ complained about the increase, they said they re-evaluate rates every year and this is based on my ZIP code and the type of car I have -- which is an older Toyota. These new rates are unacceptable, and I really cannot afford them. This company's marketing is all about how much money people can save by using them. I guess I will need to start all over looking for another company. But I can't help feeling that this was practically bait-and-switch, with the amount of the increase of this insurance. Is there any organization I can report this to? Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
Anything to do re/ BCBSIL hard cap of 20 pt visits? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 02:16 PM PDT I have Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO provided through my spouse's employer. The benefits are provided on a calendar year basis. I have been suffering neck, back and arm pain for a bit over a year. After seeing primary care doctor last year, and an orthopedic surgeon, some imaging, I went through an unsuccessful course of PT during last calendar year without having received a clear diagnosis. I continued with that same PT during the first part of this calendar year, using 9 visits. I went back to my primary care physician, then to a PM&R physician, who suspected that I had thoracic outlet syndrome and referred me to a thoracic surgeon, who prescribed PT directed at this condition. With this diagnosis, the new round of PT has been successful in making progress — much more improvement than I saw before, but now I only have 4 visits left. Ideally this is a course of treatment that would have me seeing PT 1 to 2x a week for another couple months, and instead we are rationing the visits. BCBSIL representative told me a month ago or so that I could request the medical review board to cover more visits, so I got the surgeon as well as my PT to request this. My PT submitted a prior determination and when I called BCBSIL to check on the status today, I was told point-blank that they would not review this request because I have a hard cap of 20 visits in my policy as outlined in the contract with the employer. Anything beyond is out of pocket. I imagine the answer is that there is simply nothing I can do. Is there anything I can do to get more PT visits covered? Is there anything the employer could do? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Is liability motorcycle insurance a good idea for weekend rides in US? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 02:03 PM PDT I have never had a motorcycle and want to get a motorcycle for the weekends. Quoted with Geico liability is 100 a year vs 300 a month for full coverage. Is full coverage motorcycle insurance necessary? I already have very high coverage car insurance and good health insurance through employeer if it matters. Looking at Yamaha r3 or ninja 400. [link] [comments] |
Can a canadian driver be added to/ or purchase a US auto policy? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 10:01 AM PDT My bf lives in rural Tenessee and I was thinking of buying a beater car and insuring it over there to use, as it is a must when I visit. I won't be able to apply for any sort of visa until i finish this first year of grad school, so am doing frequent short trips. Im too lazy to call insurance companies rn so am asking reddit. I wonder if we should put it in his name and add myself as a driver.. or if i should take out a policy to build driving history ...if either is possible. [link] [comments] |
Policy Management System Costs for a small MGA? Posted: 01 Aug 2019 01:14 PM PDT I'm trying to make a WAG at costs to license a Policy Management System for our startup MGA, but have no experience with them. Would any of you be able to help me with a ballpark range on implementation costs, licensing costs, revenue driven cost elements, and any additional factors I haven't thought of. Thanks in advance for your help! [link] [comments] |
