What is the best move when the stock market is at an all the high?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 11:27 AM PDT

I've been holding onto cash hesitant to get into the market, because the market has been at a massive high for the last couple of months now. Is it worth it to try to enter in anyway, thinking a correction will likely come soon? or to possibly just look into mutual funds, the safer option? What's everyone's plan and move at this time?

My favorite stocks, stock advice, discussion, recommendations

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 11:00 AM PDT

This probably should be like 3 or 4 threads but I really appreciate you reading and sharing your thoughts.

My favorite stocks(in no particular order) because I feel comfortable holding them for 10+ years:

SHOP, ADBE, MDLZ, LMT, MSFT, PEP, GOOG, AMZN, AAPL, TMUS, JPM, WMT, FB, POR, KR today.

Payment Companies - biggest thing I want to add to my portfolio is a payment processing company. I don't really understand anything of this industry. I've looked at the big ones such as V, MA, AXP, PYPL and SQ.. I'm leaning toward V and SQ. What are your thoughts on this industry.

I would love to hear what you would do with any or all of the positions below:

MMM - Got in bad at $213. Trade war hit them hard. Can they maintain profit margin and sales in the long-term?

BA - Got in at $370 - Thought it's a good play on the dip. What if this permanently damages reputation. not possible right?

NVDA - Got in at 20 - they have been steadily falling since the peak of bitcoin, which is seeing a resurgence. Without cryptocurrency I think it falls further - I think it's a sell, but maybe long long term they are good?

FDX - Got in bad at $188. More things are going to be sold online, things that need to be delivered. Amazon is taking over a lot of deliveries especially last mile. Is there a better pick or should i avoid this industry?

STNE - Got in at $33.85.. I kind of want to liquidate at a small loss to get in something similar but more established like V, MA, or AXP. Anyone know anything about this

AMD - I love AMD, got in at $11.25. I know they are doing a great job of competing with NVDA and Intel recently, but their P/E is ~100. I have a hard time justifying such a high P/E, compared to Intels P/E of 10 and NVDA of 30, however, they have such a small share of the revenue and market cap in this space. How fast can they take market share if they continue to produce quality GPUs and CPUs.

Again thanks for reading, please share any thoughts! Much appreciated.

What are the best investments to take advantage of the trucking recovery that happened last month? Capacity crashed 18.8% due to expected bankruptcies, right before a MASSIVE increase in demand. The market seems completely unaware of what is going on and nobody is reacting yet!

    Posted: 09 Jul 2019 02:11 PM PDT

Not sure how many of you are aware of this, but for the last year the trucking industry has been having a massive recession due to the trade war and being flooded by capacity from import/export sectors who had no freight to move.

Well, after a year of expected bankruptcies, an astonishing 18.8% of capacity left the industry last month! But Freight itself ROSE 35.9-80% in total volume over the same month depending on freight type.

What happened was that there were mass bankruptcies at the 1 year mark from the tariffs taking effect, then a massive unexpected increase in demand.

And now that freight demand has jumped massively, there are not enough trucks to haul them!

I actually own a small logistics company and its almost impossible to get all our loads moved right now.

What are the best "spot freight" companies in a position to take advantage of this right now? We use Landstar quite often, but even they are running out of capacity and have 1 truck for every 4 trucks being offered to them right now. I was just on their load board and they have over 29,000 loads needing to be hauled right now!

Are there any other large spot freight companies to look at to take advantage of this situation? Freight prices are absolutely going to increase significantly as demand has increased but supply has dropped.

    Rate cut = Gold Rush

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 09:19 AM PDT

Powell hinting at rate cuts to devalue USD in order to push inflation from about 1.8% to the target of 2.0% - gold demand will increase to hedge inflation.

How to profit from this: I'm buying $JNUG (a 3x exposure fund for gold and silver mining companies).

Question: assuming we can a rate cut soon, how long should I hold onto JNUG (after the decision) to cash in?

    Thoughts on CCL the stock?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 11:08 AM PDT

Could anyone offer me any insight/analysis on Carnival Cruise Lines?

I've been holding it for years and years. And even as the market heads higher by all other metrics, Carnival doesn't perform.

It's a sizeable investment as it's 17% of my portfolio.

The reasons that I got in it to begin with don't exist any more, but it has a nice dividend and was making me some decent money for awhile which is why I held it for so long. It has since lost all gains, so that money has done absolutely no work for me in 5 years..

I don't give a shit if you don't like cruises, and especially Carnival Cruises! It seems to be a lightning rod for reddit's ire I can come to any old subreddit for that sentiment. It was making money despite the comments by people who have seemingly never been on a cruise and know nothing about the industry.

So, I ask you, what do you think about the stock? Should I keep bagholding at this point?

    Tender Offer

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 07:20 AM PDT

I just received a Tender offer above market price. I need to make a decision before the end of the month. Hypothetically, could I buy up more shares at the current market price and then sell them for profit at this Tender offer price before the exchange takes effect? Sounds unethical to me but does such a thing happen?

Experienced Traders: Do you have any horror stories from previous market corrections/crashes?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 02:41 PM PDT

Do you have any tips for investors that either were not actively investing at the time or those that are newer?

Have you personally changed any of your methods or strategies to be more prepared for future corrections? If so, what did you change? I have researched this quite a bit but haven't found many detailed stories from real people.

And last question: Were you hesitant to invest again after losing money, or were you somehow able to avoid losing money?

P.S. This link exists for anyone who really wants to delve into serious conversations that you would prefer not to get into on Reddit. I clear that discussion page every couple of days.

    Question about ZM and TTD

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 02:21 PM PDT

Through reading this site I've learned a lot as a new investor. Put a decent amount of my free cash into AMD based on what I read and feel good about that investment. I was wondering your thoughts on The Trade Desk and Zoom Video Communications. Both are newer offerings and are expensive, but I see sites like the Motley Fool pumping them up.

    Cannabinoid stock Therapix Biosciences $TRPX

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 07:52 AM PDT

$TRPX Wondering if anyone knows anything about TRPX? They have drug trials going on for Tourette's Syndrome, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Chronic Pain. They are using the synthetic cannabinoid dronabinol (already FDA approved THC) coupled with their proprietary pharmaceutical grade PEA compound. Apparently the trials are going extremely well, but the market isn't reacting to them. Stock has been on a decline for quite some time. Seems like a great entry point. Most likely a buyout candidate or will partner with a larger firm. Any thoughts?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 08:42 AM PDT

The cannabis producer was found to have grown in unlicensed rooms, which made the stock drop 30% in the last few days and there is a lot of bad news surrounding it. Is this a cut my losses or hold and wait to recover type of situation? I bought in at $5.45 and currently trading at $3.24

How much of a stock do you have to buy to change its price?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 01:01 AM PDT

Casual question. If you buy $200,000 of stock in a big company (think FAANG or the best of the Dow), could you influence the price? Could you also make the price suddenly drop a bit by selling all that stock at once?

If not, what's an impact fuel amount? Can $5,000,000 do it?

I'm assuming you can only change the price by 0.5% of its worth, but at what point could you influence it to the tune of 5%?

What does it mean for a company to have higher P/E ratio than all of its customers.

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 11:17 AM PDT

Hello, noob here. I am looking at a company(company 'A') which sells software to all the major chip makers(INTC, AAPL, etc). These products are absolutely essential for its customers to produce an intgerated circuit(i.e. chip). Now, this company has a P/E ratio of 35. It's closest rival(company 'B') has P/E ratio of 54. Now, compare that to the bigshot chip makers who have P/E in the 10-20 range.

What is going on here? Is the market betting that this company is going to grow much faster than its customers?

EDIT: I should mention that companies 'A' and 'B' essentially constitute a duopoly on the market for this kind of software.

Why Google is missing out on the tech rally

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 10:13 AM PDT

    https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/10/investing/google-alphabet-faang-stocks/index.html

New York(CNN Business) Google got rid of its "don't be evil" motto last year. For the sake of investors, it may want to try out a new slogan: "Don't be boring."

Google parent company Alphabet has become one of the most boring Big Tech companies on the market, to the detriment of its stock. Alphabet (GOOGL) shares are up about 9% this year. That's not awful of course, but the stock is lagging the rest of the so-called FAANG stocks in a major way.

Facebook (FB) is up more than 50% so far in 2019. Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) are up about 30% while Netflix (NFLX) is up more than 40%.

How do you interpret a Zacks Rank change?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 09:59 AM PDT

For instance, $BTX, recently jumped to a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), but they don't seem to do much explaining as to why the rank moved up.

How does Zacks determine these outcomes? And what has $BTX likely done to deserve this rating?

Question about dividends : What am I doing wrong?

    Posted: 10 Jul 2019 09:38 AM PDT

I recently bought 16.05 shares of AT&T from eToro. Today, when received the quarter dividends, I noticed a different value than expected. So :

    AT&T's quarterly dividend : $0.51 per share

    Number of shared : 16.05

    Total dividends amount before taxes : $0.51 * 16.05 = $8.1855

I live in Romania and I checked out that we pay 5% taxes on dividends and additional 5.5% health care taxes. That would be 10.5% (correct me it's I'm wrong).

    Taxes : 10.5% from $8.1855 = $0.8594775

    Total dividends amount after taxes : $8.1855 - $0.8594775 = $7.3260225

But the actual amount that I've got is $5.73.

    What am I doing wrong?

Edit : Just found out that Etoro is giving 70% of gross dividend for buy position.
Questions 2 : When do I pay taxes?

Hello - does anyone have any thoughts on DDD or other similar 3D printing companies?

It seems like the technology has the potential to change the world when it becomes cheaper and more accessible..long term hold? Or are there reasons it's not a good investment?

    Thanks for your insight
