Let me tell you 5 things to fix on your site

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:58 PM PDT

    Evening,

I need to work on my goal of quickly assessing and diagnosing issues with small business websites, specifically regarding design or conversion optimization. No such things as too much practice, and I know there are a wide array of site styles I have not seen before.

Regardless of the type of business you have, PM or Post a link and I'll give you a solid 5 things i'd recommend you update!

    Cheers

Update: Lots of great sites! Getting through them as quickly as possible, going back and forth from comments to PMs.

Update 2: (12AM EST) Holy crap I did not expect so many to show up! Love you all, got about 20 knocked out so far between PM and Comments. Will have to push the rest to tomorrow as I need to get up in 4hrs. I'll 100% get to the rest tomorrow, thank you guys so much for the practice .I have already found a lot of room for improvement in myself and ways I need to be faster! See you tomorrow with 3x the caffeine :)

Update 3: (6:40AM EST) Will be squeezing in replies as much as I can around the work schedule, then really hammer on them this evening. You guys rock!

Should I hire a salesperson and how do I pay them?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:59 AM PDT

Thinking about hiring a salesperson, but I have 0 sales experience myself and haven't ever had one on staff. Most of my sales come through my social and email marketing, my BNI chapter and just word of mouth. I think there is an opportunity for me to grow my business through local sales, but don't know how to go about it.

I own a computer repair shop that also does RMM for small businesses. I've found a sweet spot in the small offices that don't have/want an IT guy on staff, and for which the larger IT companies in town have little interest in and are way too expensive for them.

We charge $40 a month per workstation. $20 on top of that per workstation for backup. Customer I just closed on will be $400a month coming in. How would you go about hiring a salesperson in this situation?

What can I do to help you out? Skills in description...

    Posted: 03 Jul 2019 03:50 AM PDT

I'm 24 and from the UK. I'm trying to find ways to use my skills are start my own side hustle. I'll let you know what I can do, and if you need me to do something for you, I can do it. I'm looking to see what the real world is like and how things work.

    • Automation scripts

I've wrote a bunch of scripts at my current workplace. Each day these scripts save me around 3-4 hours of "manual" work. Things like data entry, file merging, data extract etc. I work at a print/mailing house and I'm the data guy. Most of what we deal with is PDFs from customers. Adding different backgrounds to PDF pages based on filename, merging into output groups for print. Extracting address data for sorting into an order for postage discounts.

Also things like automating data entry into spreadsheets. Extracting data from PDFs. Email/SMS automation. Generating barcodes.

If you have a task that you'd like to automate I'd be very interested in trying to find a way to make your days easier and free up some of your time.

If you have 10,000 PDFs you need data extracted from I could do this in 45-60mins, compared to paying someone £12 p/h to do this over 2 months.

    • Direct mail and email

Mainly I specialise in creating print ready documents using variable data files and linking with an artwork. I have experience in Adobe Indesign to create mailpieces, Planetpress Connect for big transnational jobs that require intelligent scripts and variable fields/artworks based on information in the data. No job is too complicated, I believe I can do anything to produce print ready files using any kind of data.

Also I have some experience in generating email forms and sending out 100,000's of emails. Using the same process as generating mail pieces, but just changing the layouts etc.

    • Advertising/eCommerce

I've had some luck with facebook advertising, instagram influencers, google ads. Not my strongest skill but confident I can help. I started when I was 16/17 with eCommerce and made some profitable online stores which I ended up selling. I decided eCommerce and holding stock wasn't something I wanted to do, but it was great for learning. I've helped friends out in the past with this.

I have experience using shopify and can build a store in a short amount of time. I have some experience with the code so could possibly customise if needed.

    • Website

I can build a basic website. If you need a site built that's a few pages, bit of info, a contact form etc I can do that fine. If you need something a bit more complicated with user logins etc I will be no good until I learn how to do that. But for something small I can definitely help out. I've made a few sites using and it's something I'd love to do more and potentially move into in the future.

If there's something you need doing that isn't on here, ask me. I might have left something obvious off of here.

I am debating to make my own website and logo for my home based bakery. How much do websites and logos typically cost to be made?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 11:08 PM PDT

I started working on a website and for the most part it is good, simple and may continue with it. But still curious to ask someone with more experience to make it in the future so I want to know the general cost range. I for sure will likely hire someone to make my logo and I want to design in drawing form or have their help to come up with one that is unique. I know the more complex the pricier it is but what is the price range for a detailed logo?

Is there an app like selflender for business I want to build my business credit

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:57 PM PDT

Inventory management system for small distribution business. Preferably works with peachtree(2012, I know it’s a bit dated but it’s what the office people know how to use and changing from it would be difficult).

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 03:03 PM PDT

Currently everything that comes in/out of the warehouse is written by hand and then updated in peachtree. My ideal system would let me utilize the barcodes the products already have to track inventory.

Advice on going from residential to commercial cleaning

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:30 AM PDT

So a few montgs ago we opened a cleaning business. Took a few weeks and a few hundred bucks to start gettin customers. Initially we wanted to do commercial, but residential was faster cash. We are currebtly up to about 1 or 2 cleans a day. We arebt driving ferraris yet, but from 1 or 2 a week to 1 or 2 a day is pretty decent come up as far as were concerned. So the issue is, its costing us about $75.00 per new customer. Most of what we get is one off cleans, a few monthly cleans. But it feels like we are just kind of running on the wheel. Spending money on marketing to land a one off. It IS working and we ARE profitable, but its not as efficient as i would like.

Commercial on the other hand, has the potebtial for a clean or two per week, every month, for the contract term and beyond. That is the vision we had. More stable-ish custoner base. My wife and i do all the cleanings. Mainly because i have the fear of hiring someone and then running low on hours to give them. Hiring our first employee is our first milestone we set to acheive. Commercial accounts is where we want to live, and have the ability to tell our first hire we can give you 20 hrs to clean so and sos office 5 days a week.

Does anyone have any tips on getting a foot in the door with commercial cleaning? It would be very much appreciated

What is your largest problem with your current Web developer/agency?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 08:02 PM PDT

Really just interested in hearing what the industry could improve on as a whole for customers.

Agencies tend to have a sense of entitlement where I am from(New Zealand). Really even if you are on a retainer they still make it seem like you are lucky for being helped by them.

On-Site/Mail-In Mobile Device Repair Business Model

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 07:54 PM PDT

Hello everyone. I've been exploring potential side-hustles to make myself some extra money while working a full time job. This has lead me to develop the idea for a one man on-site mobile repair business since I will not be purchasing a storefront any time soon. I've done many repairs on multiple devices so I am experienced enough in this field to offer this service.

By "on-site," I mean that I would offer to travel TO the customer in their home/office/public library etc. I believe this would be a hit in my area since there is a large higher end population and horrid traffic. This doesn't mean I have to do it on-site either. I could just pick up the phone and have them pick it up at my house or deliver it back. I would also offer customers at a distance to mail in their devices with shipping paid for by me, although I know most people would be skeptical of this idea. But the service is there!

I would like to hear your opinions on this business model as I develop the idea.

How can small businesses avoid looking like untrustworthy compared to big companies?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 03:49 PM PDT

Should a small business ideally promote the brand and quality with grass roots people. People with credibility like trusted youtubers in that type of field, forums, review websites.

Should they try to get the recognition and awareness first, and also execute on a good product, and good website, customer service?

It can be very open, the only criteria is that it has to make money. What businesses make money these days?

Anyone Know A Good Electronic Time Keeping App Or Website?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 07:26 PM PDT

Im currently an electrical apprentice, I use paper to track my hours, location of the job (Because we work for different building contractors), and then report to him every 2 weeks on it all.

What do you guys use? We are looking for it to all be digital instead of having to write it down every time and then transcribe it around. Like writing it on the app or website or whatever and the information being accessible to him or I from any device.

    Graphic startup

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 09:42 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I'm a nineteen year old student from the Netherlands, I study 3D design and I know my way arround Photoshop and 3D moddeling quite well. I have a lot of spare time on my hands with the summer break coming up and I wanted to start something arround my skills and make some money with this.

I'm by no means a graphic designer like making logo's and corporate identities, so its purely with 3D moddeling or editing pictures in Photoshop.

Does anyone of you have any kind of advice or tips for me, all help will be apreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    Designers with gaps between projects

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 07:18 PM PDT

We now employ about 25 staff, split down the middle between designers and developers, then some support staff. In the last few months we have successfully got a number of dev projects that are 6-12 months long.

But we are in a position where we have four designers that we have no work for. We also have a few design interns on top of that. This is not a financial problem but we don't want them slacking around.

We have slide decks and a great looking site already.

Any ideas of other things they could work on that will help our business while we're signing off new jobs for them?

How to Promote New App and What to Prioritize

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 06:57 PM PDT

A little background: I spent three years traveling in Asia, backpacking and working. While I was there I met a fellow traveler, we just so happened to be from the same town in the States, and we decided to start a company together. After a year of work, we finally just released our app called WeSolo this week. The purpose is to give solo travelers a place to connect, find local guides, and get tips about the local area, safety or tourism related.

Now to the questions: My partner and I are disagreeing a bit about what we should prioritize to maximize growth. He wants to build business partnerships and further develop the app with features, thinking that creating a better product would attract more users. I think that we have a solid functioning app, with no major flaws, and we should put all of our efforts into growing our user base through advertising on social media.

What do you think is the best way to grow and what should we focus on?

Does it make any sense to register in ny state if it's an online business? why not go with delaware to avoid taxes?

    Business Location Evaluation Metrics

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 05:57 PM PDT

    Hello all,

My partner and I are considering opening our own location. We work in niche youth sports.

The decision is based on a good location we happened to find.

In an effort to make an informed decision, I'm looking for different metrics to use to evaluate the location. Number of schools, median income, etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to find a way to justify this to myself and potential investors.

    Much appreciated.

How not to get blamed for your client's mistake?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2019 07:09 AM PDT

Hi, I am currently on a project and the project schedule is past the scheduled delivery date due to testing. Testing is very slow. The main issue, IMO, is that the employees are taking their time and some are probably not qualified. Everytime something goes wrong, they blame the software. After some troubleshooting, 90% of the time, I discover that it is user error (set up or input). I cannot make the software anymore robust than it already is.

Several times, the client has called me, and asked why isn't the software done or what is taking so long.

How do I tell the client that the cause is mainly on there end?
