Was I dropped while under anaesthetic? Posted: 28 Jul 2019 03:41 AM PDT I am a retired Nurse. In February this year I went in for a rigid cystoscopy and urethral dilatation. I woke up in agony. Painful coccyx and swollen and painful hands! Gp reluctantly sent me for an X-ray A week later but Policy in Scotland is not to X-ray the coccyx?!?! I had to have an x Ray while on holiday in Crete in May because I was in so much pain, and couldn't face the return flight because the flight over had been excruciating! Turns out that my coccyx was fractured! Since then I haven't been able to sit down or lie on my back and GP thinks that I will be left with chronic coccydynia! No solicitor will take the case on because no one has admitted anything but I discovered it was a JHO who performed the surgery. Did they drop me? I don't know but I do know that that short operation has ruined my quality of life. I can't travel without being in agony, (my brother passed away in December and I can't visit the cemetery because the journey is so painful); my holiday was ruined because of it and I haven't seen my living room for months because I can't sit in the chair, so I lie on my side on the bed and watch tv through a mirror!! Is there anyway to seek compensation for what happened to me? UPDATE - I would just like to thank everyone who offered some great advice on how to proceed. The topic was locked because apparently we were spitballing ( a new word for me lol ) Anyway thank you - what a great app I have discovered in Reddit. Hopefully I can update further when I get my notes back etc Gill [link] [comments] |
Molested by celebrities as a teenager, what can I do now? Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:02 AM PDT Hi, I'm on a throwaway account for personal reasons. TLDR at bottom. I'm sorry if this is poorly written and very messy, I just went through all my old facebook messages from several years ago and am kind of shakey rn. I'm in my 20s now, but from ages 13-17 I've had non consensual and partway consensual sex(I said yes but didn't really want to. I just wanted to feel older and cool) with teachers/high profile people/celebrities. I live in Los Angeles and was a child actor for many years, not a famous one but I've been in magazines like J-14 and Tigerbeat etc made appearances on disney and nickelodean shows. I stopped around age 18 because I didn't want to be around entertainment people anymore, it was too stressful for me. What can I do in this situation? Can I sue them? Should I "expose" them? How would that help me? Would I feel better afterwards? A lot of these people have families and kids now. I don't want to ruin their lives but at the same time I feel like a huge part of mine got ruined because of them. It hurts me every single day and has made me lose my self confidence which I'm finally starting to gain back. If you've read this far thank you so much, I know it's messy and hard to read. Please give whatever advice you can I really don't know what to do. TLDR: I was sexually abused as an underage teenager by teachers/celebrities/high profile people that were much older than me. I have proof in old FB messages. I'm just now starting to really revisit that part of my life even though I carry it with me daily and find it extremely painful. I want to know what I can do legally if there is anything. Any advice is appreciated thank you for reading. Edit: I edited the post to be much shorter. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 03:30 AM PDT About 2 hours ago my neighbor called to inform me that there where and still are people in my apartment over the last couple of days destroying windows, car mirrors, blinds and more but everybody was to shy and/or was to fearful to call the police. So I called the police and my tenant. My tenant was no where to be found and since there were no clear marks of someone breaking in the police wasn't able to do anything. Very long story short, my tenant just called me to inform me that he subleased my apartment without my knowledge and is now on his way with the keys. As a side note he cancelled the lease agreement last month but is still paying rent until the end of September. What can I do ? I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment so if anything is not clear please tell me and I'm happy to add more information. Thanks in advance. Edit: the title should have statet [EU/GER]. In other words I'm from Germany. [link] [comments] |
Mortgage company requiring proof that I’m allowed to work remotely? Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:23 AM PDT We are due to close on a home this week. This home is a couple of hours from where we currently live. I work from home for a major company and they are aware that I am moving. Last week, the loan officer informed me that the underwriters need proof from my employer that I have permission to work from home since my home will be two hours from my workplace. Though leadership and HR are aware and it is allowed, my company's HR department says they do not and cannot provide this documentation - they do not use a "remote" or similar designation. The loan officer says we have to have it to be clear to close. This leaves me between the proverbial rock and a hard place and worrying about losing the home. Location info: Home is in Florida My role is based in Florida Corporate headquarters are in California My questions: 1. Is it legal for them to ask this in the first place? 2. Any thoughts on what to do if my company is unable to provide the desired documentation? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 08:55 AM PDT As noted in my title, my landlord came into my apartment without prior notice and moved all my things, then painted over the walls, and got paint on my things. I live in Manhattan. My lease ends on the 31st of this month, so technically the apartment is still mine. Am I entitled to compensation for my property that they damaged by getting paint on them? Also isn't this illegal? I know on my rental agreement that it says they can enter without notice for emergencies, but painting my walls hardly seems like an emergency. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:23 AM PDT I was notified late Friday afternoon that my lease is being terminated as of Aug 4 due to my apartment being uninhabitable from storm damage. They were in the middle of replacing the roof when we got 2 inches of rain in two hours a few weeks ago and the roofers didnt properly cover it. Major flooding all the way down to 1st floor, mainly on the other end of the building. My apartment just has 3 water spots but it must have asbestos. I asked why it was deemed uninhabitable and by whom, but didnt get a clear answer on why. I contacted the city and they were not involved in any inspection. Also, several of us who received this notice already see our apartments listed on the complex's website as being available July 31. There's suspicion that 14 units got this same notice. Our renters insurance won't cover anything because it was the roofers fault. Everyone I've talked to doesn't think it is legal to give someone 10 days to relocate and that we should sue. I'm planning to contact a lawyer on Monday but I was trying to find some info over the weekend if possible. Thanks in advance for any advice! [link] [comments] |
Child support hasn’t been paid for 5 years and it was in divorce papers Posted: 28 Jul 2019 07:39 AM PDT Texas Ex-husband was paying child support through the AG's office before he got paid, he changed jobs and stopped paying. Is there anything to do about this to get the money that he hasn't payed? Would we have to take this to court to have it figured out that way? [link] [comments] |

Manager taking tips from workers, is this allowed? Should we get the money back? Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:34 AM PDT My sister recently had a job as a waitress at a Chinese restaurant. We learned recently, that the owners have been taking the tips from a the tip jar and dividing them between my sister (the waitress) and the Owner of the restaurant. The owner also subtracted tips from my sisters paycheck, causing her to earn less than minimum wage without tips. Is this legal? What do you think we should do about it? Boy Scouts of America Wont give me 2,000 dollars back Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:03 PM PDT I am a 16 year old boy scout that was planning to go on a trip to the sea base in Florida for over a year. The trip involves a week long boat ride that stops every couple of hours so we can scuba dive. Around the time I started planning for trip I had turned in a medical form that cleared me to go on the trip. Now here we are a month away from the trip and all of the sudden they revoked my eligibility due to the existence of asthma in my past. The pulminologist had cleared me saying I was okay and I had already passed my scuba certification. Though the revocation of my eligibility only happened after my mother had made 3 bulk totaling to around $2,000. While they had known I had asthma for around a year and before my mother had started the payments, they only restricted me from going after the payments have been finished. Is there anything I can do in this situation, either involving me going on the trip, or getting my money refunded. Edit: they had also not advertised that any history of asthma automatically made you not eligible. They had only said quote" A history of asthma, diabetes, seizure, narcolepsy, heart disease, lung disease or injury, or use of specific types of medication including some psychotropic drugs (medications for ADD, ADHD, Depression, Anxiety, Panic, etc.) and other health concerns may disqualify a participant from scuba diving." Posted: 28 Jul 2019 09:57 AM PDT We've been together for about two years up until yesterday. We are not married and I live in Florida if it helps. He is doubting the paternity of the child but yet saying he's going to take custody from me. Honestly I think he's an idiot because why would the courts Grant custody to a man who is claiming that the child isn't even his? I know for a fact this child as his because I have not been intimate with anyone else since I've known him. He has a history of domestic violence not only against me but his ex-wife which I have proof of. He also has bipolar disorder and takes meds for it but not consistently. The biggest one I think is that he's an alcoholic. They're not going to Grant custody to someone who has all of those things in his background but I know how abusers can be. They will make things up to get their way. I'm just trying to find out how best to protect my unborn child and myself. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:15 PM PDT My father has power of attorney and is listed on my grandparents bank accounts. Both of my grandparents suffer from late stage dementia and require a nursing home. I recently discovered that my father has taken almost all of their money $400,000 and transferred it to his own personal bank account. Of that $400,000, half has been spent on trips, remodeling of his house, and buying frivolous items. That money was to be used for my grandparents care for when they became disabled, as they are now. My grandparents worked hard all their life to save this money and my father is blowing it all. Once it's gone, my grandparents will have to have their care taken over by the state. I have confronted my father about this and he became enraged and has ceased all contact with me. I believe he also suffers from early dementia because of his memory issues and his illogical decision making. We live in California. Is there anything I can do to stop this? I fear I'm powerless because my grandparents left him, their only child, in charge of all of their affairs and money. Is there anything I can do? [link] [comments] |
Am I allowed to retrieve my property if it's in someone elses garage and the garage is wide open? Posted: 28 Jul 2019 08:19 AM PDT |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:25 AM PDT Son's mother moved into my mother's April 1, 2019 after being unable to find a new home. Previous residence was with an alcoholic now ex boyfriend and two other room mates. Previous residence was sold and there were issues regarding utility payments not being made. Prior residence to the last residence was a town house with same ex boyfriend, however, they only lived there for 9 months of the lease. Son's mother has confided that she had to consolidate her debts. She intended to stay with my mother for 1-2 months. She has taken a personal leave from work over the Summer because she cannot get along with her supervisor. She refuses to re-negotiate custody. Has threatened to accuse me of being abusive and that my family is controlling and manipulating. She pays my mother $300/mo in rent. She leaves my son in my care or my mother's care frequently. She is presently going on a trip and she has requested that we facilitate him while she is gone. My son has expressed that she intends to move outside our stipulated city in August, however, she has not given me a new proposal and/or requested my consent. She does not cook, she buys him fast food, and my son has iterated that she seldomly spends time with him. She has expressed that our present parental plan is irrelevant because it has not been notarized. It has been signed and witnessed. She has begun dating a new person and has taken my son to sleep overs at his home multiple times. He supposedly lives in the city she intends to move to. We believe the new relationship has been established within the last two months. I have retained a lawyer, however, she is on vacation and we meet August 8th. My mother and I have refinanced her home in the pursuit of buying a larger family home to facilitate a change in access, however, we are unclear on how to proceed in this situation. I pay $500/month in child support and make regular contributions to his RESP. I rent a house with a long term friend. My son has his own bedroom in both my home and my mother's. I provide the health benefits through my employer. I have lived at this house since October 2018. My son has established relationships with the children in the neighborhood in both homes. My prior place of residence was a two bedroom apartment for my son and I. I resided there for 2 years and 4 months. I have regular visitation 2-3 days a week and every other weekend. I have been employed in my field of work for 7 months at the current Employer and 4 years and 7 months at the previous employer (in the same field of work). I wish to register my son in the school in my mother's district, until court proceedings have been finalized. She is unwilling to provide consent, however, she has failed to notify me of any relocation (new city is 30 minutes away) within the stipulated 60 days in the parenting plan. What are my legal rights in this matter as a concerned parent? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 02:34 AM PDT Question: If they refuse to reverse the charge on my account, what should i do? What could happen if I refuse to pay the $25 charge? Am I being a baby over $25 and should i just suck it up and pay? Situation I've lived in the same apartment since 2015 and they have always required to have renters insurance. I had the same renters policy through Allstate until May 2019 when I switched to Geico. Even though I switched insurance companies, I never had a gap in coverage. When I switched, I made sure I signed and paid Geico before canceling my policy with Allstate. At the beginning of July when I was paying my rent, I saw 2 charges of $25 each(one for June and one for July), added to my account for "Insurance Recovery". I went into the office and spoke to the assistant manager and asked why I was being charged this "insurance recovery". She said its because they didn't have my insurance on file. Because they did have a policy on file, then according to the contract, failure to maintain insurance will result in a $25 charge for every month that the tenant is covered. So I asked if I send a copy of my policy that proves that I have had continual coverage, will those charges be taken away. She said yes. so long as the date on the policy shows that you were covered during that time frame, then the charges will be reversed. I Immediately send her my policy which shows that my new policy started May 8th which clearly shows that I have had coverage for June and July and there was no gap in coverage. She said that she will try and get the charges reversed. On Friday, I found a notice on my door that says that I owe $25 on my account. I look at my account and it's the July charge of "insurance Recovery". Because the office was closed I waited until Saturday morning and went into the office and spoke to the same assistant manager. She said that according to her boss, that she could only have one of the charges reversed, not both. She said that she had been telling people wrong about the reversal of the charges and because of that she has gotten into trouble with her boss. She asked if I have had the same policy from the very beginning. I told her that in May i switched companies but i signed/paid Geico before canceling my policy with Allstate. She then asked me to email her The details of my situation so she can forward it to the "higher ups" and try to "help me out". She also said that she can't guarantee that the charges will be reversed either.
From my lease agreement is seems like i should not be charged the "insurance recovery" especially because I have had coverage during the times they claimed I didn't. And why would they reverse the June charge and not the July charge if my policy started May 8th? My lease is up July 31st and I already signed a lease at a different apartment complex so i will be moving out this week. Question: If they refuse to reverse the charge on my account, what should i do? What could happen if I refuse to pay the $25 charge? Am I being a baby over $25 and should i just suck it up and pay? Update: Landlord threatening to evict me for having (gay) sex in my apartment. Good news! Posted: 28 Jul 2019 02:25 PM PDT Well, here's my update! And with good news! So first of all, I just wanted to say: wow. The amount of support I received, both in replies and in PMs, was absolutely amazing. Everything from fantastic advice to hilarious commentary. The person who said "Sand is a weird name for a guy" had me in stitches. That said - I feel like people assumed a much worse picture of my landlord (people telling me to buy cameras, etc). He's a nice enough person, but has some very problematic views. He grew up in rural (Arkansas, I think? That or Alabama) and came to MA later in life. This was his first time being a landlord, so he still had the idea in his head that it was "his house", so to speak. That, coupled with the fact that up till now he'd avoided even talking with people who were openly gay, led to a lot of ignorance. I know some of you were hoping I'd screw him over for all he's worth, or torment him with daily updates of my gay agenda, but alas, I decided to take the calmer approach, and it seemed to work. Yesterday I sat down with him, and first laid out the various information that you guys helped me find. Everything from sexual orientation being a protected class, treble damages, and the fact that those old laws and 100% completely unenforceable. He realized VERY quickly that he was in the wrong, and he has fucked up bad. He also admitted that even he didn't know what he defined as "the sin of homosexuality", or how he'd enforce the fine. He just kneejerk reacted to the (to him) shocking news. We ended up chatting for about 2 hours then, and it started with me dispelling a lot of misconceptions about gays (some of his notions were comically bad - like, if I weren't having the conversation with him I'd think he were a caricature). He's a lot older than me, and his kids recently moved across the country (and he was renting their house for him), so I think he had some notions of being a father figure to me, and thinking he could "lay down the law" or "set me straight". He seemed genuine, and seemed to be legitimately concerned for me and my soul. I reminded him to hate the sin and not the sinner, and that seemed to resonate with him. He still doesn't agree with homosexuality or my lifestyle, but he's willing to accept it. He seemed to be earnestly trying, and in my mind that counts for a lot. He agreed to write both me and my boyfriend a letter of apology (which I will be keeping copies of in case this matter comes up again and needs to go to court). The past few days have been super stressful, but it seems to be resolved. If things go well, I might even potentially renew the lease come September. I'll still be on guard for any shenanigans, but I think I'll leave the issue where it lies for now. If this was all a ruse or him backpedaling, I'll go at him with everything I can in the future - but for now I'm satisfied. I'm truly appreciative of all the people who offered advice and moral (and immoral!) support in the original thread. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jul 2019 02:22 PM PDT I've lived in my house for about ten years now, and for the most part, I love it. We live in a suburb just off of Cincinnati (still within the greater Cincinnati area, if that matters,) and it's a great neighborhood. Amazing school system, very kid friendly, lots of friendly dogs, everyone knows everyone, etc. The one problem is the neighbors who live directly behind me. This has been going on for years. Once a month, or sometimes a little less/more, they will throw indescribably loud parties. Today, they actually have a live band playing. It's always in their backyard, and I can't even hear myself think. Our houses are arranged so the back of my backyard borders the back of their backyard, and it's slowly killing me. However, noise complaints (which I happen to know practically everyone in these two streets has filed, and I would assume the people I haven't spoken with have too,) do absolutely nothing, as the male owner of the house works as a cop. Is there anything I can do? If so, what? And is there anyway to solve this that doesn't involve attorneys (for cost reasons)? It's gotten so bad that in the past, my 65 year old neighbor with 3 dogs, 7 children, and tons of grandkids, who I have never seen be more aggressive then swatting the occasional fly, has previously marched out into his backyard and started screaming at them over the fence. It did nothing. I don't know if they even heard. Please help!!! [link] [comments] |
Can an employer put employees back on probationary employment status. Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:29 PM PDT I have worked for a law firm in California for over five years. It has two partners. One will be leaving the firm and the remaining partner will be partnering with an Associate to create a new firm. Everything carries over. All of the employees will remain, and the partner who is leaving only came in periodically anyways. Essentially it's just a name change. All the clients remain. Scuttlebutt has it that the current managing partner intends to put all of the current employees on a 90 day probationary employment status because it will be a new entity. Since this is a carryover from another firm, can they put everyone back on probationary status? All employees have been employed for at three years. There are no employment benefits such as medical or dental insurance. This would presumable also reset the amount of vacation employees are entitled to as well back to one week instead of 2 or 3. Thanks is advance. Edit: to add state location. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 28 Jul 2019 02:16 AM PDT United States / Georgia I have been working for an establishment for 3 years that is a part of a huge franchise and they have been forcing me to flub information. Essentially they take credit cards and cash payments and they have found a way to fake cash payments so they're never saved into the POS. The customer gets a receipt but it is never saved into the computer. What's crazy is they are saving receipts themselves. I believe they're not reporting these sales to the IRS, the franchise, or other part owner of the business. It's got to be in the 10s of thousands of dollars atleast by now. They've been doing it for years and make me and my coworker both do it and I'm afraid they may fire us both if I say anything to anyone. I've taken pictures of these receipts and stored them in the cloud for safe keeping. I'm tired of breaking the law, scared of what might happen to me via the IRS, and don't want to be jobless. What do I do? [link] [comments] |
Maryland, Cellular provider charging for international that was not made by our phone Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:27 AM PDT On our bill for June, we were charged for an international call to Belize, to a number we have never called before for 36 minutes at 6:20am on a Saturday, according to our provider it was from my mother's number, but it does not appear in her call history, nor would she have any reason to call Belize. She has a picture on her phone on the same day at 6:37am, which was supposedly during the call and she is absolutely possitive there was no call being made when she took the picture, is there anything we can do? Or are we stuck paying for it? Edit: just thought I'd add, our big concern is it's going to happen again and we get stuck with the bill for someone somehow making calls from her number internationally [link] [comments] |
Coworker trying to wrongly report a child (2 y/o) Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:21 PM PDT Throwaway because i don't want this leading back to my personal life. Ive been working at this daycare for 4 years now and the child in question has been there for 2 years. The child has eczema on her arms and in her crotch area which appears like rough bumpy skin. This condition was diagnosed by her doctor and does receive cream that controls it from getting worse. This does not sit well with the child's teacher however. She thinks because the eczema isn't going away, the child is being neglected. She is persistent in this notion despite us telling her that its just a skin condition. Her Assistants said she's threatened to call CPS and even said she'd pay the child's family a visit with her dad. What can be done about this? Would CPS actually doing anything in this scenario? All I know is that im definitely notifying the owner of this as it isn't right to me and callous judgment on her call. Edit: I live in Lousiana [link] [comments] |
Uncle won’t give me a bank statement for a trust my father left me. Posted: 28 Jul 2019 01:46 PM PDT My dad died when I was 6. The house we lived in was sold and then that and the money that he had at the time was left in a trust for me to get when I turn 35. I am 19 at the moment. My uncle who is my dads brothers, and is also the person who my dad left to be in charge of the trust (I can't remember the legal term) was supposed to be sending bank statements every month of the trust account. He sent one the month after my dad died. However he sharpied out the amount. I have met with a lawyer once and she told me the amount should be around $628,000. I called my uncle yesterday who I haven't talked to in 5 years and I asked him and he said there was about $124,000. I texted him this morning asking him if he could send me a bank statement and he said no, and if i asked for one he would ask for parents statements (who are my aunt and uncle from my moms side who adopted me) I don't know what to do next. Should I go back to a lawyer and subpoena the bank statement for the trust account? Does he have the right to be able to ask for my personal statements? I'm concerned for the major money gap. Please help. UPDATE: I didn't mention that I did record our phone call. [link] [comments] |
Landlord evicting my mother without cause only one month into a two year lease Posted: 28 Jul 2019 12:10 PM PDT This is in Atlanta, Georgia The story is pretty short: She emptied her bank account moving from TN to GA, got a new job, and signed a two year lease. Recently she recieved an email saying she had 30 days to vacate, and the email gave no reason. She's never missed a rent payment. I'm in California so I'm not familiar with Georgia tenant rights, but they shouldn't be able to kick her out before the lease is up right? Edit: Apparently there was a line in the lease that said she could be evicted with only 30 day notice if the owner decided to sell the building. So the landlord rented it to her just to get a month of rent knowing they were selling the building. I guess we're just out of luck? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jul 2019 03:09 PM PDT Location: New York City I'm 30 and financially independent from my family. Back in 2007, when I was in college, my father and his mother took a loan out in my name. I didn't find out about it until 2014. When I did, the explanation kept shifting between a couple different things: "We didn't know your name was on it" (my grandmother was listed as the cosigner) "We really needed the money then" "I just got a letter saying I'd get money if there was a college student in the house, so I signed" "You owe us for raising you anyway." (my parents were in family court over custody). We came to an agreement where they repaid it and I'd let it be -- they did pay it off, but nothing about that is in writing. Ever since then our relationship has been pretty strained. Recently, my father's been announcing that once my grandmother dies, he's buying a BMW with the money (he encouraged her to take out a reverse mortgage on the home, she did, but I don't know any of the details) and moving in with me. He's also started saying that I owe him $75,000 for custody court and raising me. Every time that's come up, I've told him there's no chance in hell. I'm not overly worried about the money thing. I'm freezing my credit to prevent future identity theft. And also, I don't see any possible way he could come up with a case to bring me to court to get me to pay his family court bills from two decades ago. Sure, I'm aware that you can sue anyone for anything, but this hypothetical lawsuit seems to be be of those ones that's too far fetched to go anywhere at all. I admit I could be totally wrong on this. If I am, I would very much appreciate being corrected. My main question is: if my father shows up (we both live in NYC, so it's easy for him to get over to my place) and insists to be let in, what do I do? I'm looking to avoid a big scene and incident over it. Obviously, I need to call the cops, but what should I say to them? [link] [comments] |
