What would you be doing if money didn’t matter?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 01:05 AM PDT

I asked my girlfriend this before and her dream was to own her own animal sanctuary to nurture and look after orphaned animals.

She then asked me and I realised I don't actually know, I'm so caught up in making money right now so me and my family don't need to worry about it anymore. I never actually considered what I would be doing right now if money wasn't apart of the equation.

So I'm interested to hear what answers other entrepreneurs give to this question.

Young entrepreneur wondering how to gain clients as a young person without a network

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 02:23 PM PDT

Hi guys. I'm a 21 year old, with significant web development and design skills. I'm studying engineering, but at the same time I want to launch my own business. I want to begin with either web design or web development, but I feel I won't be able to gain any clients without a significant amount of experience or a good network, and I have neither.

Does anyone here have any experience with this or ideas on how to navigate this situation?

Creating a personalized products without producing it

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:01 AM PDT

Hi, I have an idea for a physical product which is personalized (The customer chooses the picture on it). As a software engineer, I have no experience with physical products.

My goal is to find a 3rd party manefactuerer that will produce it and ship it (maybe another 3rd party will do the shipping). In summary, I will do the marketing and build the website that takes the orders including the picture and I would like to create an automateted pipeline where the customer gets the product without me seeing it. Yes I do understand that with this kind of work my profits are decreasing and a lot of the money goes to the manufacturer.

My question is, where can I find this kind of manufacturer? Does it exist? Because I encountered 2 types. 2 is for mass production - 3000+ products. That's not good for me because the image on each one should be different. The second is a 2 of personalized thing. Also not good, too expensive and this isn't a one off thing. As soon as the producer creates the product shape it repeats itself, the only thing that changes is the image.

Anyone had any experience with this sort of venture?

    Thanks!

Need help with an app idea!

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:54 AM PDT

I know nothing about apps or how they work so don't know if having someone develop me one is even a good idea or not! But I had questions on how running an app would work.

My idea is to make an app where people can view and order menus from local restaurants, with pictures and a review system, pay through app/in store and delivery options!

What would be the cost to run an app like this ? I imagine accepting payments and hosting the data from the app will cost me a monthly fee how do I go about estimating that , fixed price or does it depend on certain things ?

Good brokerage account to invest in S&P 500 if you are from East Europe?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:49 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I am a 22 years old student from Eastern Europe that would like to invest money that I managed to save up in my past college years.

My goal is to start investing money and just holding it. I want to invest around 4000€ and go from there so I manage to gain financial stability in 30-40 years from now on.

I am really interested in investing in the index funds like S&P 500 but have a lot of trouble finding the right brokerage account since I do not have a lot of experience or background in this field.

I wanted to sign up for Degiro, but my country (Slovenia) has recently been removed from their list.

I would really appreciate if you guys could help me suggest a brokerage account or tell me how did you deal with the situation like this so I can start investing as soon as possible.

    Double transaction fees for marketplaces?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:40 AM PDT

If you have a marketplace business that connects customers to other businesses, how do you set it up to pay the least amount of fees? For example, Stripe will charge you 2.9%+small fixed fee for taking the money for the customer, will that charge also take place for when you transfer a portion of the money to the business providing your service?

    'brand market fit'?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:52 AM PDT

Most people focus test their product to a target audience, no branding. product market fit.

Does anyone test just the brand's vision/brand design/brand image/brand perception (customer reviews, endorsement) on the customer?

i.e take the product you have tested that has product market fit, and show to the target customers a prototyped(fully finished) functional website, packaging, customer reviews, endorsement(low level website recommendation).

does any one do this? And any things to show to a focus group/public like prototypes/show capability or one off specially design product.

Idea - Importing And Rebranding An Already Existing Product

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 10:46 AM PDT

Solved a problem for myself and think can solve the same problem for others for profit.

    Product :

Found face cream that cured a skin condition I had. There are many who have this skin condition but don't know the solution. I think I found something that can benefit lots of people. The marketing for this cream is non-existence; so no one is advertising this in mass and it's only known in a smaller ethnic community. I believe I can do a better job of getting this product to a wider market. At least I want to try to do it because of the benefit to others and also I can make money while doing it.

I want to build a business based on this already existing product. How to go about it?

What I have done so far :

    • I have contacted the manufacturer who is in another country and requested wholesale price. Waiting for a reply back.
    • Contacted some cream-bottle manufactures in Alibaba to get some quotes for a container to repackage.
    • I might need to get some ads, logos and marketing materials written.

    Questions:

    • I think I need to establish a new brand to market this product; don't see much benefit for me by just reselling the product with the same name and brand.
    • What is the requirement of selling facial cream, or becoming a facial cream distributor? ( I am located in Canada).
    • - I would want to have an online presence, I have some experience in online store creation and management.
    • If you want to take on the endeavor such this how would you go about it?

Any suggestion help and advice are welcome. Thanks for reading.

How do I find the next venture?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 08:36 AM PDT

I'm a skilled developer, I've built everything from mobile apps to websites to desktop apps, etc. I currently run a web development company and it's super fun, but in the lulls between work or when waiting for a client I'd like to find the next thing. This will be my first time kind of branching out and building my OWN product. How do you guys find something that fits your skills and is something you're interested in?

For example one thing I tried when I first started coding and loved was video game development, the problem is it's nearly impossible to make money in that industry, so does it make sense to pursue this? Or should I look somewhere else? I could probably make a killing making some SaaS but I don't know if I'd be passionate about it, how much does that matter?

Sorry for all the questions, looking for some guidance when it comes to finding the next venture I want to embark on.

Young entrepreneurs, how many friends do you have that you actually see?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 07:53 AM PDT

Hey guys. 22 yo entrepreneur here.

Since inception of my business about a year ago, my social life has greatly diminished. I'll see a couple of my friends every few months and it won't be for long. The time I put into my business just consumes me. Usually I'm either busy or too tired to want to do anything social.

So I was wondering. Other young entrepreneurs, what is your social life like?

How does the “free book, just cover the shipping” play actually turn a profit?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 07:44 AM PDT

I see this a lot on Facebook: somebody will have a physical book on how to make money with amazon or whatever, and they'll be giving it away for free with the caveat that prospective readers must cover the cost of shipping (usually around $5 usd).

It's not entirely clear to me how this is profitable as a business strategy. The most obvious answer to that question would be "by giving away value in the form of a free book you incentivize people to check out your expensive courses down the line."

While this may be part of it I have to wonder if there isn't more to it than that. Are these entrepreneurs selling the email addresses they get from the free book funnels? Are they charging more for shipping than the shipping would actually cost and then pocketing the difference?

Self-publishing thousands of copies of a book is expensive and I want to know what the angle is here. Thank you in advance for any insights.

    Migrating and Rebuilding Site

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:57 AM PDT

For our business, we have a simple magazine website shoddily created on Wix. It looks fine but functionally is incredibly shoddy to both upload articles and organise. Dimensions change and the site resolution doesn't work for different laptops etc.

We want to get off our broken Wix website and have someone rebuild the website using another method (Wordpress etc) so it looks fairly the same but is functionally easy to upload articles and easily able to organise and manage by non-coders. With possibly a few slight changes. And re-upload some of our previous articles from there.

Just wondering, what would be the easiest and reliable methods for this? I'd imagine this is fairly easy as the website layout is fairly basic and already existent. And how much could this generally cost?

    Any info would be nice!

Best application/website to sell PDF's with?

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:49 AM PDT

So I have an idea for a PDF but I don't own a website. Are there websites out there who offer you to create a custom page on their site that you can use as the destination URL? Instead of linking to a website of your own.

So far I've found Sellfy as a realistic option. A bit expensive but it offers decent features.

Starting up a Maintenance business, looking for advice.

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 06:17 AM PDT

Pretty simple, my dad and I are starting up a business in the Knoxville, Tn area and we will be doing concrete, flooring, lawn care/landscaping, and general small construction and repair.
I just graduated with a degree in Business administration so im not completely lost in this matter, but still new to it in general and figured I would post here and see if anyone had any advice.

We have a restaraunt we are a regular customer for and occasionally pick up side jobs, but not a ton of money to start this going in general so its not like were taking anything by storm.
Mostly just curious about a few things:

-What are some essential "make sure you do this/best things to do"

-Good ways to acquire new customers without buying builboards and such

-My dad always seems to underbid projects trying to be cheap and If im with him, I typically bid significantly higher and usually they dont mind paying my bid, but any tips on bidding more accurately and competitvely would be appreciated.

-How do find employees for this should we need some outside of family? This one im completely clueless about.

Again, were not totally in the dark here or anything and I think we will be fine for sure, but were filing to be an LLC right now, bought some business cards, and looking to get some branding going (van stickers/magnets and such) but any advice or help would be much appreciated!

    E Commerce Startup (Toronto, Canada)

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 11:55 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

This is my first time posting and thought it would be great to get some advice/tips from the reddit community here!

    Just a little intro:

I'm 22 in Toronto, Canada and wanted to start my own e commerce business. I'm planning to attend college this year followed by a Masters (1 year program) the next year and plan to work full time in my career while I manage my ecom business on the side (part time). Ultimately, my goal is to be able to retire early (when I'm 30 for example) with my e commerce business, that I've built from the ground up (hopefully can profit over $70k/year by that time).

I have little to no experience in E-Commerce and understand that building an e commerce business takes an extensive amount of time, commitment and great persistence and I am prepared for that. I am very serious about starting my business and plan to do mostly everything for this site myself and will get help when needed.

I have done research on e commerce and different business models and right now I needed help on narrowing down which B2C model would be optimal, given my limitations (personal finances, time commitment and ecom experience). I've compiled the following list of what I have as of now,

    1. Dropshipping
    2. Wholesale - Out
    3. Warehousing & Stockholding
    4. POD
    5. Branded Business
    6. White & Private label model
    7. Subscription Services

Essentially, I want to build sustainable site that can be content-based (where I can write my own blogs, articles, etc), sell and dropship services/products (primarily informational) while also being able to build my own personal brand, and is B2C based. It can start as a single category, single to multiple product business and plan to use Shopify as my platform. Is all this possible with Shopify?

I would also like to know how I can keep my business afloat and profit well in the future (1-10 yrs from now). I know as I gain more experience, I could progress to a different business model, sell my business, own multiple businesses, though I would really like to keep things simple and have my own store that I've built over the years that can still generate enough passive income (where I don't need to working a 9-5 anymore).

TLDR: Need helping narrowing down which B2C E com model would be best to get into, in order to build a sustainable, profitable e commerce business. Any general tips/advice/mistakes to avoid on building a successful B2C e commerce business for someone new to it.

Thank you to everyone and any input would be greatly appreciated!

Help with pricing on Window Cleaning service

    Posted: 28 Jul 2019 04:27 AM PDT

I am in the process of starting a Window Cleaning business and I have reached the stage where I need to set some way of pricing a house.

I have looked at my competitors and they all have pricing systems, that I think buyers would be confused and overwhelmed by. This website is in danish, but you need to type in how many window panes you have of each https://spejlblank.dk/klik-en-pris.

Most of my competitors price the same way.

Is there some way that I could price my service, so it would be easy for the customers?
