What to look for in a city when deciding on where to start a sales career? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:06 AM PDT Hello everyone, recent college graduate here looking for some insight on the best place to start my career. I currently have an offer for a SDR role at a mid-sized Fintech (Saas) company in SV with an $80k OTE. The company looks to be growing at a healthy rate and relates to my undergraduate degree in finance. In any other city this would be more than outstanding, but at this point it looks like it would be nearly impossible to save anything in the bay area. I also have a connection in Dallas where I would be doing Telecom sales (non Saas) in a start up at roughly $60k OTE, enjoying a higher quality of life, and be able to save more for retirement, lay-offs, rainy day, ect. To cut to the chase, I am worried that by taking the opportunity in San Fran I will be living paycheck to paycheck with no real way to save until I make AE. The concern I have with Dallas is that it might have a lower growth ceiling in the long-run since the tech scene is considerably smaller. Are there consequences to starting your career in smaller markets? And finally, are there other cities I should be considering that offer good compensation with a modest cost of living? Thanks for the help guys. [link] [comments] |

Prospects that keep opening emails but not responding ? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:34 AM PDT What do you do with prospects that when you email them several times and they open your email (multiple times) but never get back to you? We met in person in February and were supposed to grab coffee but her plans changed. I've been emailing her every month or so and she's opened my emails every time but never gets back to me. Should I just stop bugging her or is persistence key ? It would potentially be a big account. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:27 AM PDT So, while I work through the day I've usually got some stuff on YT playing or an audio book, sales podcasts or whatever. Something between the calls or while it's ringing. I might focus my subjects based on if I feel "I'm struggling with a specific subject. Last week was 3rd party objections just letting them slide. GC clips finally came up in my YT queue somehow. I knew of him, just never really watched his stuff because of his reputation. God damn, this dude is charismatic. He can handle objections but his ability to control the conversation and his charisma does so much work for him. It's really impressive. I wish I had more time to train because just watching some of his videos he's really convincing. I'm literally sold. Just kinda crazy. Also noteworthy, I feel like the character in the show Billions Doctor Gus is based on him. The similarities are REALLY striking! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:25 AM PDT I've been selling for about a month now at my new job. I've got my pitch down, I feel confident in role plays, I feel fucking awesome about all of it. But the second I show up for a lead I get shakey, I get studdery, I turn into a goddamn deer in the headlights. Ok, it's not that terrible but I definitely let my nerves get the best of me and I forget things or have pauses or forget where I am in my consultation. Part of the reason I wanted to do this job is to help get over my social anxiety but it still lingers. What have you guys done to build confidence when you are face to face. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:24 AM PDT Hi guys, I've been getting the stiff arm lately from Purchasing/Sourcing saying their not adding any new vendors. What are ways to overcome that aside from being sponsored in and finding out when they will be reevaluating new suppliers? [link] [comments] |
Advice/Thoughts on this Solar Sales position offer? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 10:05 AM PDT Hey everyone, I have received an offer with a solar company and honestly don't have a lot of knowledge of what the industry standard/average is for pay/comp. I have never done Solar sales before or even D2D. I have around 4 years of sales/sales leadership experience in a call center. The most I've ever made in one year is 55k only working 40HRS per week The position is considered a management position where i interview, hire, and develop a small team. Meanwhile i'm still expected to work as an sales agent myself and knock/close my own leads. I would receive my own commission plus overrides on what my team produces. Here are some of the details: "In the position, "company" is offering to start you at a pay rate of $50,000.00 per year annual salary or commission (which ever is greater). During your training process, you will be paid $300 per kW on closes that were generated by you & a $20 per kW override for those that you oversee after the site survey is completed. After completion of our training process, the commission is structured at $40 per kW after completion of the site survey and $20 per kW after completion of the install, generated by the sales reps that you manage and oversee" Also get 4 weeks of PTO per year but no health benefits I'm expected to work 35 hours per week to receive my annual salary of 50k. Driving is not considered in this 35 hours, only time spent knocking doors, sitting with clients, and closing counts towards my 35 hours. The market would be Charlotte, NC. I can work any days/hours as long as my 35 hours are there each week. Thanks in advance for any advice/feedback! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:57 AM PDT I'm in a bit of a situation here where I need a job as I only work part time atm, I'm a "new" immigrant that just finished university, this is in Canada and I eventually want to go into business, so I'd like to learn more about sales, rather than just sitting in a lab all day making minimum wage. That's some context for this post. The commission plan:
Now I'm all very new to this, so I was wondering, is this a good prospect for someone relatively new to sales? [link] [comments] |
Which Sales Book Should I Review Next? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:31 AM PDT When I started doing sales - and I never thought I would be in sales - I found researching the subject very difficult because there were too many choices. There are a million sales books, sales gurus, sales blogs....etc. and I wanted to read the best; just skip right to the good stuff. It took a lot of research to figure out what was legit, and the process continues. To help members of my team and others cut through the noise, I've started to review sales books that commonly appear on "best of" lists. Over time I hope to develop a short list for beginners and short list for folks with more experience. Here are a couple examples of my reviews:
So, which sales books should I review next?

Any engineers/developers do sales to be more social? Is it worth it? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 11:17 AM PDT Any developers transition into sales careers in order to be more social? I like coding, but in all of my previous jobs I barely socialize, and I'm a big extrovert so I'd love to try something new. I realized I really wanna try sales after learning more about b2b sales from a co-worker. [link] [comments] |
I start my first sales job this week. Last minute tips? Posted: 17 Jun 2019 02:53 PM PDT I'll be full time, on the phone, closing a service not a product, and I've been studying in my spare time. I'm also bringing a bag, a notebook, and notepads. [link] [comments] |

Wanna pivot into saas sales and wanted some advice. 1) any classes I could take my last year to gain better understanding of fintech? 2) any other roles within tech companies that allow for more analytical/ technical approach that might be worth looking into? Looking for Follow-up system, please help! Posted: 18 Jun 2019 09:40 AM PDT I work with a small to the trade business with large yearly growth and potential. I think a solid follow-up system is the key to growing to the next level - I just need to find one that fits my needs. My business currently: All customer data, estimates, invoices, and payments are done through QuickBooks. We use Outlook, which connects very comfortably with QB. We regularly attend trade shows - which result in an Excel file of hundreds of leads. Upon researching/reviewing the leads, the qualifying companies are entered into Constant Contact, and e-mail blasted once a month with business features and updates. We've compiled a master lead list - containing thousands of leads from trade shows spanning over the last 15 years, complete with contact information and company info. Our current system of follow up is a Google Spreadsheet - we log every e-mail and phone interaction with a current or potential client with various forms of requests - Quote Sample Request New Customer/Catalog purchase General Questions Invoice made We then assign follow up to one of our staff - who then have to enter the info into their Outlook calendar as to remind. Once the follow up is complete, we go back to the Spreadsheet and mark the date the follow up occurred. What I am looking for: First and foremost, I want a system that will remind me every day of the follow ups I need to complete. I don't want to have to scroll down my giant list every day to hunt for the follow ups. I then need to be reminded after my first follow up - to complete a second follow up at a later scheduled time. I want to be able to complete 5-10 follow ups with the same client throughout the year. I want each follow up to be a different format, and I want the reminder system to tell me which mode I am using for that specific follow up. For example: First interaction with customer is over the phone. Follow up would be 2 weeks later via e-mail. Follow up after that would be a month later, via coupon postcard. Follow up after would be mailer with updated samples. Follow up with another e-mail. So on and so fourth. I also need to be able to set different follow ups for different requests. For example, if someone requested a quote, I follow up 3 weeks after initial quote. If someone requested samples, I follow up 2 weeks later to make sure they received them. If someone placed an order, I need to follow up one week after they were scheduled to receive it to make sure everything looks accurate. I would also like a system that easily integrates my Excel leads. Does something like this exist? TL;DR I need a follow up reminder system that can be adjustable to my needs. [link] [comments] |
Got a sales idea but, need the right tool to execute it Posted: 18 Jun 2019 09:05 AM PDT Hi, I am the head of sales of a SaaS startup. I'm performing a lot of demos through screen sharing and phone. I try to focus on large accounts with a significant cash potential. However, we also have a lot of users on smaller accounts I don't have time to speak with (our solution works on freemium business model). My idea: I'd like to record a video of a typical product demo. Ideally, I need a tool that would allow me adding to my recorded demo a short personalized intro video in which I would say something like "Hi, Mr. X, I recorded this video for you. Please call me if you are interested." I would also need to include call to actions buttons within the video. Do you know if any tool available on the market allows this? [link] [comments] |
Is anyone willing to share a strategic territory/account plan? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:26 AM PDT I'm working up a strategic plan for my 25 strategic accounts in the Enterprise SaaS world. My geo is very focused to a single large city and the accounts are primarily Insurance and Manufacturing industries. What does your strategic plan look like? Have you presented this to your management team? What did they think? Are you willing to share that presentation? How successful have you been? How do you build confidence in your plan within your organization? What is a waste of time when building a plan? Any sales managers here willing to give their two cents? Cheers! [link] [comments] |
How to effectively reach HR reps for B2B sales pitch? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 07:01 AM PDT I work for a national new-home construction company and we are planning on rolling out an incentive program for corporations and large businesses that have a local presence in our market. We are quite honestly offering a flat percentage discount off all of our homes to any employee of these companies. I've never had to make a sales pitch to another business before as opposed to a consumer so I'm not sure how to navigate the corporate structure.
Thanks for any help! [link] [comments] |
What app do you use to monitor/inform team about your breaks on the floor? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:57 AM PDT We have various teams working on the floor. Being a customer service oriented process we need to ensure there are always at least N people on floor out of M employees. I'm looking for an app or a slack plug-in that will enable the employees to mark their break. Other employees can look at the app and understand that out of M employees how many are on break and can manage their breaks accordingly. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Central Florida BDR and Account Executives. What company pays well? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:17 AM PDT Title. I just am having a hard time finding any BDR role that pays over 40k base with OTE 50-60k here. Currently sittng at 33k plus commission at my current role, with OTE just barley touching 40k. W was recently promoted to senior bdr because I've been hiting over 150% quota. Should be bringing closer 45-50k this year, but I feel like with my stats I should be making more. While my commission structure was boosted, my salary was not. The boost in commission is not enough, so I asked for a raise and was denied. Been at company little over 8 months, looking for a place that has a bit better comp plan with OTE closed to 50-60k. Or should I wait out a few more months for potential AE position? My direct manager, and a district manager for outside sales say they will vouche for me when it comes for me to apply to the Outside Sales position so the potential for moving to AE is pretty good right now. I just have bills to pay NOW, and it is getting a little stressful. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 18 Jun 2019 06:01 AM PDT Recently, a very large business in my territory has been occasionally ordering a large quantity of a product I sell because the brand they use has been back ordered. Excited, I reached out to my contact at the business to hear what they thought of our brand and push for a possible conversion. I was immediately told they did not like our brand at all and a conversion would not be happening because it did not perform as well as the brand they order regularly. I sent an email asking if they still had any of our product on the shelf and if I could come by to troubleshoot the issue they were having as I've never heard of a customer having this problem before. The response was "Thanks for offering, but we're not interested." What's the best way to respond to a hard No like this? Even if they never make a conversion to our brand for this specific product, I'd like to keep a good relationship with the customer. We have a diverse product catalog with many other products/ solutions they could implement in the future and don't want bridges burned. Any help/ advice would be awesome. [link] [comments] |
Thoughts on Gartner as a First Job Out of College Posted: 17 Jun 2019 04:01 PM PDT Title kind of says it all. I'm planning on moving through the interview process as my last semester of college is approaching. I am a Finance and MIS major who has cold calling and call center experience for donations for roughly all of college. Does anybody here work for them or can offer and advice for how it is as a first real sales job out of college? I am referring to Fort Meyers as well. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
You’re starting out in sales again.. what Tech industry would you strive for? Posted: 18 Jun 2019 04:34 AM PDT About to begin my career in sales. Posted: 18 Jun 2019 04:28 AM PDT Hello guys, longtime lurker here. Recently I started my first job as a b2b sales agent in the betting/gambling industry. After 6 months in the company I am starting to feel like the company is not providing me a learning experience and the support I need as a junior. Could you please tell me what kind of support did you receive at your first sales job in terms of education, sales tools, mentoring, inbound leads etc.? Is it even fair to expect this kind of support from the seniors? The answer I got from my seniors is that sales people should be innovative and manage themselves. Thanks in advance. Edit. What I got from the company so far is: -access to our internal CRM -onboarding education about the products (this was pretty well organised and with good content, can't complain there) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 17 Jun 2019 12:20 PM PDT I have been doing sales for over a decade now, I'm burnt out. The only real work experience I have is sales in hospitality and now in technology. Anyone here made a leap into a new role without having to take an enormous step back career and pay wise? [link] [comments] |
