    r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Options Trading Thursday - Jun 27, 2019

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 01:06 AM PDT

This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on stock options, but if options aren't your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against options here and not in the current post.

Some helpful day to day links, including news:

Required info to start understanding options:

    • Call option Investopedia video basically a call option allows you to buy 100 shares of a stock at a certain price (strike price), but without the obligation to buy
    • Put option Investopedia video a put option allows you to sell 100 shares of a stock at a certain price (strike price), but without the obligation to sell

See the following word cloud and click through for the wiki:

Call option - Put option - Exercising an option - Strike price - ITM - OTM - ATM - Long options - Short options - Combo - Debit - Credit or Premium - Covered call - Naked - Debit call spread - Credit call spread - Strangle - Iron condor - Vertical debit spreads - Iron Fly

If you have a basic question, for example "what is delta," then google "investopedia delta" and click the investopedia article on it; do this for everything until you have a more in depth question or just want to share what you learned.

Boeing shares fall on more uncertainty about the 737 Max return

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 05:08 AM PDT

    https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/06/27/boeing-shares-drop-after-faa-recently-found-another-issue-with-737-max.html

Boeing shares fell on Thursday as the the International Air Transport Association (IATA) asked federal regulators to coordinate in training pilots once the grounded 737 Max aircraft begins flying again.

The IATA statement came shortly after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it had found another software issue with the company's grounded 737 Max aircraft.

Bank CCAR stress test results released

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 02:02 PM PDT

    https://www.americanbanker.com/news/banks-clear-ccar-stress-test-though-jpmorgan-chase-capital-one-barely

What is interesting, is that we will start seeing all of the majority banks that were subject to the stress test release their capital plans (that were approved as part of the test), which will outline what sort of dividend increases and stock buyback programs they will put into place over the next 12 months. I do wish that all of the prior year banks had also been subject (so that we had a better idea of what their capital plans were), instead of only the 18 largest.

    But so far:

    • JPM is increasing dividend to $.90/qtr (from $.80) and authorized a $29.4B buyback.

    • WFC (disclosure: long) is increasing dividend to $.51/qtr (from $.45) and authorized a $23.1B buyback.

    • USB is increasing dividend to $.42/qtr (13.5% increasing) and authorized a $3B buyback.

U.S. regulator cites new flaw on grounded Boeing 737 MAX

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-ethiopia-airplane-faa-boeing-exclusiv/us-regulator-cites-new-flaw-on-grounded-boeing-737-max-idUSKCN1TR30J

WASHINGTON/SEATTLE (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration has identified a new risk that Boeing Co must address on its 737 MAX before the grounded jet can return to service, the agency said on Wednesday.

The risk was discovered during a simulator test last week and it is not yet clear if the issue can be addressed with a software upgrade or will require a more complex hardware fix, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters.

Possibility of trade talks failing this weekend? Buy stocks now or next week?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 08:52 AM PDT

What is the possibility the US-China trade talks fail? I'm unsure what route to take: load up on stocks now because they'll rally up if trade talks succeed, or wait until after trade talks because if the talks fail there will be a significant dip in the market.

Can anyone explain the sudden rise with NEL ASA? Why are people buying?

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 07:55 AM PDT

NEL ASA got up over 7% today, but I can't find any news. Do you know what's going on? I was going to sell 1 day ago, because hydrogen technology is still nit as its best place, and now I see this.

Want to invest in a stock (WSE).

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 11:11 AM PDT

I've been thinking about getting my hands dirty into stock market since i have some extra money that i can spare and can risk it for sake for profit . I'm from India, and i think that's the biggest problem here because as far i know foreign investment is always vulnerable. So i thought I'd reach out Reddit and ask it directly instead of false researching decision making. I needed every bit of information that any of you stock wizards might have.

Thanks and any help will be appreciated.

Another thing to mention is that It is Warsaw Stock Exchange that I'm talking about if you guys didn't notice.

Upwork - best investment in years

    Posted: 26 Jun 2019 11:41 PM PDT

I am massively long on Upwork since its price decrease, but I cannot believe people do not see it the same way.

Upwork is the largest freelance market place in the world.

    - It has the highest active number of freelancers

    - Highest active number of jobs

    - Highest revenue generating

    - I have used it and the platform from the technical side is outstanding from the job poster perspective

    - The value that the freelance market places is insane, as I am able to hire Ukrainian programmer for a fraction of the price that I would pay in European Union

    - Awesome transaction technology (quick and easy invoicing)

Why do I think it is undervalued:

    - It is trading 5.0x next year sales, for a high growth company which is not profit generating that is a good metric, in fact it is lower than Fiverr, which is its closest competitor at the moment. It is also lower than many other hyped startups

    - The freelancer economy is going to grow once the new generation takes over the work force. More and more people want to work on the go or want additional salary to their existing job. In my opinion people undervalue the freelance movement, there are hotels and island created for freelancers now, and it is only the beginning. Every company will be hiring at least one person on upwork in the future, because it is so much cheaper to do so as you get access to the entire world.

    - Upwork is like facebook. It is basically a monopoly and it will be getting stronger as more users join. Once articles such as "freelancer made USD1m on upwork" emerge more people will want to advertise there and more companies will want to post jobs

    Risk:

    - Google or facebook creating an alternative, but to my opinion upwork is large enough to combat that. Fiverr or Freelancer.com are not good enough competitors in my opinion. They are smaller and no one wants to post on smaller gigs

    My Conclusion

    - Valuation is too low for this company. Although its revenue growth slowed down in the recent quarter the long-term is looking great as the freelance market is going to grow massively

    What are your thoughts guys?

What does it mean is Customer Recipients are far greater then company renevue

    Posted: 27 Jun 2019 03:15 AM PDT

I am looking at a company's income statement and it seems after 2016 the difference between customer receipts and revenue is really significant. It's an online travel website, however if I look at another competitor of same type this trend is not there. Any reason for this, I was thinking it might be customers paying with some type of credit? Any other possibilities

Analysis of KL (Kirkland Gold) up 25% in one Month

    Posted: 26 Jun 2019 03:14 PM PDT

I will be presenting my summary stock analysis of KL, Hope you guys find this useful/entertaining. It is key to study the characteristics of winning trades to learn how to identify them before they happen.

KL has been among the strongest stocks in June. Since the end of the short term downtrend in the indices on 6/4 , KL has taken off and made incredible returns in less than 4 weeks.

    Fundamentals:

    • KL is among the strongest stocks based on fundamentals. I look for stocks which meet the CANSLIM criteria. I focus on Earnings reports, sales, and ROE.
    • KL has extremely good EPS reports the past 4 quarters. The EPS % change also is in an accelerating pattern (for the last 4 quarters) which can drive stocks to new highs. The EPS % change reports started at a low of +58% (very high in its own right) and most recently +112% (reported on 5/7)
    • KL's sales are matching the pace of the EPS, with accelerating sales the past 3 quarters
    • KL's ROE is excellent at 23.6 (I look for higher than 13)

Technicals (Looking at Price data and technical indicators like MACD, Stochastics)

    • Last October KL started dipping with the general market, But in Mid November, it started making its first move upward before the general market reached the bottom of its pullback. This is a sign that a stock can be a next market leader.
    • Then KL advanced 90% yes 90% until it started consolidating this incredible move upwards on 2/28.
    • During this most recent market pullback, KL first seemed to keep moving sideways but on 5/31 right as the market resumed its uptrend, KL started advancing even fast than during its first run up
    • On 5/31, KL advanced on a spike in volume as well as a 10.4.4 stochastic cross, 12.26.9 MACD increasing and a huge jump in relative strength versus the SPY.
    • Then there were 3 straight days of huge buying volume, confirming that institutions were acquiring this stock.
    • Since then it has increased almost 25% and is still going strong.

    Outlook

KL just moved out of its 2nd stage base. Winning Growth stocks with similar characteristics in the past such as Amazon, Apple, Netflix... built at least 5 bases during their huge moves up. This could just be the start of KL's increase. Definitely one to have on your watchlist.

Always do your own research and use stop loses. Hope you enjoyed this analysis.

SFTBY to split 2:1 while dividend price in July

    Posted: 26 Jun 2019 04:34 PM PDT

While a stock split does not actually increase the value it does tend to raise the price post split due to phycological ideas of the share price being "cheaper" and allowing more investors in at a lower price point.

The dividend price remaining post split is interesting but I'd like to hear all your thoughts.

New to this investing stuff, are super cheap stocks okay?

    Posted: 26 Jun 2019 09:00 PM PDT

I was looking around for stocks that are really cheap (trying to start off with just $50... broke college guy) and found the stock GOHE (Global payout Inc) for only ~$0.004. Should I be concerned that it is so cheap? Also, does anyone know anything about this company? Stock used to be at $4 each so would buying 1000 shares at only $4 be an okay idea or should I steer clear? Thanks!
