    2019 Public Accounting Salary Survey

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 01:46 PM PDT

Hello everyone. I haven't seen a post here in a while about a salary survey; so I made a throwaway account and decided to make one on Google forms.

I'll leave the link up for about a week or so and compile everything into Tableau and post the results. Please fill out the survey here.

Also please use your best judgement when filling it out (such as cost of living and so on).

    Explanation for turning down offer

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 05:47 PM PDT

I've been recently offered several internships for the next summer, and I ultimately decided to go with a B4. As I emailed the recruiters from other firms to turn down their offers, I noticed that they always asked me for an explanation. All of the companies are really great so I definitely do not want to burn any bridge.

How do I go about telling them the reason without sounding rude? Like most people I want to start out at a B4 to get a good career foundation, but I'm not sure if it's an appropriate excuse. What would you do?

Commercial Audit in NYC (B4 and Mid-size firms)

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:14 PM PDT

I'm a student at a target school in NYC. I know this area is very big on FS and it can lead to a job in investment banking, but I'm not interested in finance. Not interested enough to work in the long run at least. The thing I liked about accounting was that I could see aspects in a business, which is why I'm interested in going into the commercial industry.

But I don't know much about commercial audit in NYC because it's mostly FS auditors I end up speaking to. So I have a few questions:

    1. What "fields" of commercial are there?
    2. What do you usually do for clients?
    3. How often do you need to travel? Do you need a car?
    4. What are the exit opportunities like?
    5. How many commercial clients does NYC even have?

At what point do you accept being pigeonholed in AR/AP?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:18 PM PDT

The other day I was chatting with my brother, and he said that the A/P clerk at his company makes 65k (medium COL), works 40 hours on a heavy week, and has a strong pension plan. This is obviously higher than normal, so it prompted me to ask,

What salary would it take for y'all to be a career A/P clerk, taking into account that it's an easy job, but also boring?

    GPA on resume?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 05:58 PM PDT

    Hi Guys!

I'm a recent graduate with an accounting major, just wondering if I should put in my accounting GPA of 3.28? My major GPA is currently 3.47, so I was thinking of either putting the both of them or only my major GPA. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!

Anyone else hate it when managers/partners talk about the financial budget endlessly

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 05:42 PM PDT

I'm in a decent sized firm which continues to grow but half the emails we get from corporate are about budget goals and year over year revenue comparisons by office.

Then there's the office partner who has probably way overshared how bad the office is doing. I feel like as a senior I shouldn't even be privy to this; why is it my fault or burden whatsoever how overall the firm or even the office is doing

Choosing between Big 4 Tax and Audit

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 02:59 PM PDT

I'm currently trying to decide between a tax internship offer from the orange firm and an audit offer from the four blue squares firm. However I've never taken either a tax or audit class so Im finding it hard to choose. My plan right now is to work at big 4 for a few years and transfer to finance/banking. Do you guys have any advice on how to choose between the two?

Differentiating between Agricultural expenses vs assets...

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 01:09 PM PDT

So I (an engineer with bookkeeping experience at a family manufacturing company) am being asked to help out with a family venture of starting up an orchard business. I'm not quite sure how to classify some of the recent expenditures. Many of them fall into the pre-production costs such as:

    1. Dirtwork to get the land ready
    2. Installing a deer fence around the orchard
    3. Install a sprinkler system

Would the fence and sprinkler be assets that we depreciate over time? That seems logical to me. Is the dirtwork just an expense? If anyone knows of any good resources to learn the basics about accounting for an orchard, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

    Questions about creating an app

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:29 PM PDT

Hi folks, I have a quick question for the accountants out there. My partner and I are in the process of developing a mobile app. We have been flushing out the idea since September, and we are finally ready to start the development process. However, we want to create a corporation to legitimize the app and our business. So my question is which type of corporation is the way to go when creating an app? All of the research we've done says to create an LLC and then change it once we get more traction. I would appreciate all feedback. Thanks in advance!

Applying to B4 after non B4 internship ?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2019 12:22 PM PDT

I was able to land an internship with a solid firm (BDO, RSM, GT level). I couldn't land an interview with B4 and want to work there one day. I am curious if anyone ever got hired as an associate at B4 after doing an internship elsewhere? How was the process? Any advice/ experience sharing would be appreciated!
