This is why you need insurance.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 08:10 PM PDT

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I had to share what happened to me today.

I am an inbound sales agent at a call center for a fairly large insurance company. I had a customer call today to start an auto policy with us. Her last policy expired just yesterday. She had a financed 2018 Nissan with thousands of dollars owed to the finance company.

She was driving her vehicle with no insurance and had our call being played over the speakers of her car. The quote was completed and I was reading the legal disclosures to her before she purchased the policy. I have to read each coverage to her so she knows exactly what is and isn't on the policy. The last coverage on the list was her auto loan/lease coverage. This coverage would help pay for some of the remaining payments owed to the finance company if the car was totaled. She asked me how much it would be to add the coverage so I had to go back in the quote, add the coverage, and it ended up being fairly cheap so I added it to the policy.

I proceeded to read the last of the legal disclosures and right as I was about to click the purchase button I hear a BANG on the phone. She had just gotten into a head on collision with another vehicle. I could hear a passenger in the car moaning in agony and the driver was screaming. The customer stayed on the phone with me explaining everything that had happened. I listened to her help the other driver and passenger. Both were making the most heart wrenching noises. Based off of how she explained the accident she was at fault. She thought she was at a four way stop so she pulled out and another car had flow through the intersection because it was not a four way stop and hit her head on.

If she wouldn't have asked me to add the loan/lease coverage she would have been insured. We were on a recorded line and there was literally nothing I could do. I felt helpless. But the message I took away from it is the importance of having continuous insurance and not driving without insurance. It made me realize how fast something so life changing can happen. And also shows why insurance is so important, even if it seems like a pain in the ass most of the time. You need it. Especially for your vehicle. Shenee, if you see this just know I'm praying for you. That phone call will haunt me for a very long time.

Do insurance defense lawyers check for warrants?

    Posted: 18 Apr 2019 12:08 AM PDT

I have a warrant in state A which is thousands of miles where I live now, state B. I got into a car accident that wasn't my fault and am going to a deposition which I heard were kinda brutal. I don't have time nor the money to take care of that warrant and have been pulled over many times in state B and they've never caught on. Would a insurance defense lawyer go as far to look that up and can it possibly effect the judgement of whether I get a payout or not?

PIP: Payments made to you vs. pay provider directly.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 11:52 PM PDT

I was recently in a car accident(not at fault). I submitted my pip application and in the form it asked if I wanted to opt to have payments made to me directly or pay the provider directly. I'm in KY and the adjuster said it was an option in this state but, wouldn't give me any advice other than I needed to make the choice. I was involved in a accident before and I was never asked this question before so I'm not sure what the best option is. Help?

    Thanks in advance!

How difficult is it really to collect from UMBI/UIMBI?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 11:14 PM PDT

I have been reading horror stories about how difficult it is to collect on UMBI/UIMBI, how you have to actually file a lawsuit against the the other driver, and not only will the other drivers insurance defend them, but your own insurance will also defend them. Yes they will defend the other driver.

It is starting to seem like this a sham coverage, if you need to pay for your own lawyers and fight against not only 1 insurance company but possibly two.

Need help with my car situation.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 06:44 PM PDT

Long story short I received a car from my parents. I was a careless teen and never transferred the title to my name. The registration was last valid in 2017 and I don't have car insurance. I've gone through a lot of maturing and realize the danger I put myself and others in while I drove the car (drove it very rarely). Is there anyway I can get insurance on the car if the registration is past due? And if that's not the case what would the steps be that I'd need to take to renew the registration and put it under my name? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm in California btw.

    Renters Insurance Claim?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 06:35 PM PDT

Last night, I had a candle lit that produced a ton of soot. I now discovered my Xbox won't work anymore as a result of the soot in the room. Do you think renters insurance would cover such a claim? I read my policy and the language is incredibly vague.

Home Insurance wont cash me out on water mitigation but cashed out build back?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 09:31 PM PDT

So I recently had some water damage to my home from a plumbing issue and running into a roadblock with getting the payout for water mitigation portion of the claim. I had 2 water mitigation companies come out. 1 that the insurance company recommended and 1 I found on my own, but I didn't have any of them do any work because I was planning on doing the work myself. I just needed their estimates to give to the insurance company. I already own a bunch of the equipment needed and have friends that have equipment I can borrow as well.

The water mitigation company that the insurance recommended submitted an estimate/proposal to them. During that time the adjuster came to the home and gave us a check for the estimate on the "build back." When I asked about the payout for the water mitigation portion they seemed vague and avoiding giving me a direct answer. They kept insisting I hire their company. I kept telling them I wanted to just have the mitigation work done at my own pace with a company I choose. I also wasn't sure how to approach this cause I'd assuming the payout would be different for work I'd be doing vs. what a contractor would be doing. I want the insurance company to just write me a check instead of the water mitigation and insurance dealing directly with each other? Do I tell the insurance I'm going to just do all the work myself? I'd like to get a similar payout as what the contractors would get.

    Berkshire Hathaway Amguard

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 05:42 PM PDT

Hi, I got a solid homeowners quote from Berkshire Hathaway Amguard. I had never heard of them, but after some research, I found that they have historically done commercial insurance (liability/workers comp), and launched their first consumer facing products (home/rental) in 2018!

Therefore, it's next to impossible to find any information on how they perform as a homeowner insurance company. Does anyone have any experiences?

[MA]My car was struck while parked by someone who was arrested for an OUI at the scene. Their car was insured, my insurance is making me out to be the bad guy for wanting claim through their insurance.

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 07:34 AM PDT

So I had an incident on 4/09 that I reported when I got the police report on 4/10. I gave all the details and was asked if I wanted to go through their insurance or mine - I told them theirs. The person was driving the passenger's car, which is insured, and driver was arrested for an OUI/Driving without inhibitor. The passenger was insured.

    4/12:
I spoke to claims rep & told them the same thing - everything should be processed through the other person's insurance. Gave all the information again, including police report number, etc.

    4/16:
I was told by the Autobody place - which tried to schedule an appraisal - that no one had contacted the at-fault party's insurance. She called my insurance and was directed to inform me to call my insurance agent who would call at-fault party's insurance co.

When I called I was bounced around between two different companies, the insurance's and the agent's call center. Was told I could not receive a copy of my policy as it was only sent out once a year during renewal when I asked for a copy/my responsibilities and the companies responsibilities. They barked at me when I said this is the third time I specified the claim should be through the at fault's insurance company. I was told I was on my own, no one would be contacting the third parties insurance agency, and I had to call myself.

    4/17:

After reviewing policy information, I find that a ticket I appealed and had dismissed from 2017 was still on my SDIP report. Which I called and had to have removed, they have the appeal date as the surcharge date. So I have been paying a surcharge on a dismissed ticket for almost 1.5 years?

I called the DOI and they said to make a complaint online - which I don't have an issue doing.

What should I do here? I feel like I need a lawyer.

Is it safe to switch companies amidst the claim?

What are my protections as a consumer for filing a complaint?

Why are they reporting my speeding ticket appeal date as the issuance of surcharge date?

I was literally trying to hold back stress-tears for 2 hours yesterday after being made out as the bad guy from my insurance company, and the most caring conversation I had was with the at-fault parties insurance company. I am really just not sure what to do, I just want my car fixed because someone hit my parked car.

    Rear ended parked vehicles

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 04:04 PM PDT

Hi, I need some help from you experts. So my beloved Lexus just got rear ended by my neighbor. She claimed that she thought she had the car in park but it was in drive and I guess she floored it. Because I heard a loud bang from my room. In assessing the damages I noticed that my front bumper also got damaged from being pushed into my dads car. My dads bumper is damaged too. We then got her insurance information and license. Police were called but no report was filed. Now she is denying the fact that my car actually moved forward. I provided photos to their insurance company. So my question is what are the odds of insurance believing her false claim? I have provided as much proof as I can provide. Police were called onto the scene but they didnt file a report. What other information can I provide for them? I also sent them photos of skids marks from my tires being pushed forward.

i’m curious and i figured this would be the place to post my question...

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 07:46 PM PDT

i live in vancouver british columbia but i assume this question is pretty general.

why do i have to pay for 3,000,000 dollars coverage on my insurance? i might just be naive but i've searched everywhere for the worst case scenario insurance costs after a crash and all i can find are numbers around 20,000 to 50,000 which assuming medical isn't involved in that idk let's say medical costs about 500,000 which i understand some brain related injuries can get upwards of 1,000,000 but how likely is that?

i'm asking because i'm a college student and i wanna save money everywhere i can. if i can feel safe only paying 1,000,000 in coverage then that would save me a lot of money. as of right now car insurance is quite literally my only expense and i barely make enough to pay it. if i continue having to pay upwards of 300 dollars for my insurance i'm just not gonna drive next year which is obviously an inconvenience but it may be necessary as i don't have money to do or buy things i want even after saving for 4 months (which i have been and i only have about 200 in spending money right now)

    any opinions or advice welcome.

edit: my mom is the one who helped me set up my insurance plan and the lady told her it's necessary for me to do 3,000,000 and it would be unsafe if i didn't. and i am struggling to find many indications that she's correct. AGAIN i don't claim to be very knowledgeable on this subject which is why i'm coming here for advice, thanks in advance!

Can I have insurance fix some things but not all?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 06:14 PM PDT

I have a 2007 Harley sportster that was laid down. Damage to the speedo, clutch handle, bent forks in the front and a couple dents in the tank, fenders. Shifter lever bent. Other than that there's a lot of scratches.

Insurance is stating it would be totaled out due to cost of repairs exceeding value. I have a loan though and won't walk away with much.

I was wondering if it's possible to request insurance pay to fix the mechanical issues and not the cosmetic so it doesn't exceed the value and I can retain the bike?

What if only OEM parts are available?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 04:55 PM PDT

I just want to be sure I will be covered in an accident, but many parts of my car only have OEM parts available. All of my lights are special LED lights. My headlight for example is a single assembly, the lights cannot be removed from the actual assembly. The assembly is only available via the manufacturer.

What will the insurance company do in these cases?

Edit: to be clear, my car no doubt has many parts that are available as aftermarket, but most of it's most expensive parts are only OEM parts. Their are no aftermarkets available.

    Progressive vs. Safeco

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 04:45 PM PDT

My policies (Auto, Home, Umbrella) are up for renewal next month and I've been getting quotes for other carriers given the general price increases I'm seeing on my own policy. The most competitive alternatives appear to be Safeco or Progressive with Progressive coming in about $380 cheaper annually for the whole package. Coverage amounts appear to be the same except the loss of use provision on the Safeco HO policy is about $35K lower (agent said Safeco wouldn't allow it to be higher). The Safeco auto policy also has an endorsement for OEM replacement parts and "Enhanced Level Protection." Progressive's policy just says Actual Cash Value under "Limits."

I'm wondering if there's a substantial difference in customer service and claim management between the two? I drive a 2 year old Porsche and care a lot about being able to get claims processed without a lot of hassle and genuine parts getting used. My current carrier has given me no issues about that including getting OEM glass on windshield replacements on prior vehicles.

(Side question - is there a formula or recommendation for how much loss of use coverage you should have on a HO policy relative to the value of the dwelling?)

How do I obtain my first job as a Field Property Adjuster?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 03:04 PM PDT

I recently received my Adjusters license in the state of Georgia and I have been looking for positions throughout different job boards and staffing agencies for work. However, it looks like most employers are looking for some type of experience as an adjuster.

I have worked in Insurance for 2 years now working auto claims, and I just recently started as a third party Insurance Producer for USAA. I also just started up working with Pilot Catastrophe and their 'On Demand Services' as a vendor.

Any advice on how to break into the field without any experience as an adjuster but with general insurance/claim handling experience? Ultimately I want to be prepared with real experience before a storm hits and companies are looking to deploy adjusters for the CAT claims. Any help would be appreciated.

Home insurance claim question - 2K bikes stolen, 1k deductible, worth claiming?

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 08:29 AM PDT

I had two relatively new bikes stolen from my underground locked garage. They were locked with a u lock and cable lock each. With accessories and all else they're worth around 2K. My policy has a 1K deductible.

Living on a student budget is rather have some cash to replace them as I do bike quite a bit. The adjuster said my premiums might increase though.

    1. Is this claim worth pursuing?
    2. If my premiums increase can I just cancel my insurance and go somewhere else? Can I get my girlfriend to get home insurance from some other company and therefore our premiums won't increase?

    In Canada if that matters

    Thanks for the help!

    Insurance for app users

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 02:02 PM PDT

I'm creating an app where users can go onto other properties. I was wondering how companies like airbnb, uber, lyft find insurance for their business/users.

    Key questions.

    1) Does the insurance work on a per visit model, per user etc...

    2) what types of insurance brokers am I looking for? Such as state-farm nationwide etc...

    3) is there a pre-defined word like car insurance or umbrella etc that I need to ask.

    Group Health Insurance Question Redeux

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 01:49 PM PDT

I posted a few weeks back asking about group health insurance. Though I appreciated the responses, I didn't really get a conclusive answer.

So I'll ask again, hopefully in a more clear and concise way.

I am a sales rep. The company I sell for produces inputs for the agriculture sector. I directly sell these inputs to customers but I also go around trying to solicit individuals to sell these inputs for us. We creatively call the individuals that sell for us, "dealers". These dealers are solely paid in commission. My company does nothing for these dealers, except provide the product to sell and pay the commission.

My question: Is there a way for my company to rope our crew of dealers into a group health plan?

Here is where I originally got the idea:

    https://www.agweb.com/mobile/article/fbn-launches-health-insurance-option/

I'd love to have a similar option for my dealers. If someone could explain how this works, and if this sort of thing could be implemented in my scenario, I would really appreciate it!

    Homeowners Insurance

My house sustained water damage last month due to a pipe leak. My insurance company (USAA) placed money in my account to repair the damage. Repairs are done now and I have a bit of the money left over. Will the insurance company request that this money be returned to them? Mods please delete if not allowed or I'm on the wrong sub. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.

2 car accidents in one month

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 12:47 PM PDT

ive been driving 2 years now and I haven't had an accidents until one in early march of 2019 and then one today. Both of them were me rear ending someone and I was found at fault. They did abruptly stop but at both times, my judgment and awareness were both lacking at the time, plus this is Miami so its high volume traffic all day. My insurance is with geico and I was wondering what is going to happen to me when its time to renew? I feel terrible and im scared of my financial future. The first accident was extremely minor, the second was a little less minor but both were only body damage and both cars were able to drive away. How much could insurance go up for me and since its 2 accidents in 6 weeks, could they just drop me? also im 21.

[CO] question about insurance coverage for PCP visit

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 12:02 PM PDT

I went to see my primary care physician in October 2018. The purpose of my visit was to get a referral to see a reproductive endocrinologist for treatment of my endometriosis. A referral was required by insurance for coverage of visits to specialists. My PCP gave me a referral to the RE I requested and then recommended I also get a flu shot because I was there. I was going to get my flu shot at Walgreens but agreed so I wouldn't have to make an extra stop. I asked at the front desk on my way out about paying a copay as my card showed PCP office visits require a $25 copay after the initial yearly health check. The front desk lady said that it wasn't showing payment due in her system, gave me my visit summary, and I was on my merry way.

About a month ago, I received a bill from the individual doctor, showing a diagnosis code, clinic visit, vaccine admin, and pharmacy total of $353, insurance adjustment of $293, I owe $60. Last week, I received a separate bill from the family clinic showing the exact same code, clinic visit, vaccine, and pharmacy for a total of $203 with insurance adjustment of $81, I owe $121. I called both billing entities. One is billing for the family clinic and one is billing for the doctor herself.

I called my insurance to seek clarification as to why I'm being charged a little over $180 for going to my PCP for a referral to a specialist plus a flu shot. The insurance rep I spoke to said that the diagnosis code they billed is not covered at all by my insurance plan. The billing code was treatment for infertility. I explained that my PCP couldn't possibly be treating me for infertility because that's not something they do at that clinic, and I had gone to get a referral for a specialist. Even if she was, diagnosis and treatment of the underlying cause of infertility is covered under my plan. I quoted it off to the rep while on the phone. The insurance rep got the billing people from my doctors offices on the line and we all had a discussion regarding billing codes and my insurance coverage. The insurance rep admitted the claim should not be denied based on what I said and what both billing reps discussed was in my chart in their system.

It was a fun 53 minute phone call but my insurance rep filed an appeal for me for both claims and put all the things we discussed in the notes. She said it could take 30-45 days for it to process and she will call me when a decision is made. I wrote down the claim numbers for both appeals.

How much should I press this issue? Should I further escalate this now or wait until I hear back? My fear is that it will be declined and/or the process will take too long and my bill will go to collections.

    Travelers Intellidrive Questions

    Posted: 17 Apr 2019 11:57 AM PDT

I just swapped my insurance from Geico to Travelers and opted in for Intelllidrive, as far as it tracking your driving habits, when do points get deducted for speed? Is it a static number (eg. get points deducted over 70mph) or if its a changing number depending on your gps location and what the speed limit is in the area you're in? I'm not a fast driver I'm just curious on how their system works.
