r/Stocks Daily Discussion & Technicals Tuesday - Apr 16, 2019 Posted: 16 Apr 2019 01:06 AM PDT This is the daily discussion, so anything stocks related is fine, but the theme for today is on technical analysis (TA), but if TA is not your thing then just ignore the theme and/or post your arguments against TA here and not in the current post. Some helpful day to day links, including news:
Technical analysis (TA) uses historical price movements, real time data, indicators based on math and/or statistics, and charts; all of which help measure the trajectory of a security. TA can also be used to interpret the actions of other market participants and predict their actions The main benefit to TA is that everything shows up in the price (commonly known as "priced in"): All news, investor sentiment, and changes to fundamentals are reflected in a security's price. TA can be useful on any timeframe, both short and long term. Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:25 AM PDT A fulfillment company serving a part of the world racked with political and military instability and corruption? Sunk about a billion in debt? Ladybaybee recommended stock picks 2019-04-16: GIS, PCAR, UTX Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:36 AM PDT Link to imgur with picks and details of picks (5 images) GIS: General Mills has been having a steady upward movement for the past 3 months, and today is getting a slight pushback. Potential for ~2% growth in the next 6 to 10 days. PCAR: High growth opportunity stock, has a good Growth Score from Zacks and carries a top Zacks rank. EPS expected to grow 3.1% this year. UTX: ROE of15.48%, ROA of 4.56% and profit margin of 8.36% PB ratio:3.03. Seems a bit undervalued. What are your thoughts on these picks? [link] [comments] |

What's happening to healthcare stocks? Will they bounce back? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:17 AM PDT I own ANTM and UNH. Both have dipped significantly recently. Is potential future policy affecting healthcare stocks? [link] [comments] |
Question about dividends and tax-free account Posted: 16 Apr 2019 08:56 AM PDT If I have dividends coming in, what's the best type of account to hold them so I'm not taxed as much or at all? I'm hearing from people to put it in a IRA but what type? Traditional or ROTH? And does it matter what type of stock/ETF I put them in? For example if I have a ETF, REIT, and common stock that has dividends, is there a certain account type that's best for each of them? Or is IRA best for any dividends? [link] [comments] |
Electronic Arts deep dive. Why? Posted: 16 Apr 2019 10:26 AM PDT So since the beginning of the week EA took a 10% deep dive. I tried to find any articles about it or why the hell did it happen but to no avail. Is it because they announced the new Star wars game without microtransactions and lootboxes? [link] [comments] |
Stock Market reactions to Thursdays Muller report. Posted: 16 Apr 2019 02:08 PM PDT Ok we all know the Muller Report is coming out on Thursday. Its been said this is 300 page report. This is not some kids high school term paper length this is a novels length report. That being said this could be very bad news for the market when the report is released. Anybody know where the traders are putting there money on the dow, nasdaq on calls or put action. This sounds like a classic case of pump and dump. Im thinking the market trades up on wednesday in the last hours then comes crashing down on thursday when the bad news muller report comes out but of course I could be wrong and the muller report is nothing but butterflies and flowers. Posted: 16 Apr 2019 01:54 PM PDT I'm 14 and i want to learn more about stocks/ invest in them. I don't know what the first step is. I think you have to co-sign with an adult or something like that but i'm still pretty lost. I also want to know if being a day trader is realistic for my age. I've asked some of my family members that know a little about stocks and they said it's better to invest for the long run. I know that you gain more money in the long run but i seems like being a day trader is much more fun. My idea on day trading is getting home from school and buying a lot of really cheap stock and then in a couple hours if it has gone up a tiny bit then i sell them. also, do i need a credit or debt card to put my money on? I think it's fun to look at stocks every once in a while ( i just use the app that comes with iphones) and it's cool to see the stocks raise in value but i'm more interested in smaller stocks. I want to know where i could find stocks to monitor that in interested in. I don't know if it is even a good idea for me to start at such a young age but i guess i just want to know the logistics of stock. I would be very grateful if someone could help me out :) [link] [comments] |
UnitedHealth beats first-quarter profit estimates and raises its 2019 forecast Posted: 16 Apr 2019 04:33 AM PDT https://www.cnbc.com/2019/04/16/unitedhealth-q1-earnings.html UnitedHealth posted a quarterly profit that beat analysts' estimates and raised its adjusted earnings target for the year. The largest U.S. health insurer's results were driven by strength in its Optum unit, as well as a rise in memberships for its health plans. UnitedHealth also raised its full-year adjusted earnings forecast to between $14.50 and $14.75 per share from its prior view of $14.40 to $14.70. [link] [comments] |

[I think] Someone’s trying to scam my Dad Posted: 15 Apr 2019 09:15 PM PDT Let me start with saying I don't have the FULL details currently but will update tomorrow once I meet with my dad. A construction company is trying to get my dad to invest in their company. They basically printed out some paper promising him some stocks. I'm assuming this is pre-IPO, but the "contract" that they gave him my dad described as simply written on a word document printed out with basic wording, no company logo and extremely informal as well the contract said something about the company being pharmaceutical company before it became a construction company(according to him.) Besides that, what makes me extremely skeptical is that the company's website says they've been around for 15 years but it's literally just a landing page and the website is not secured. Tomorrow I will request for them to send the patent number that they hold that makes their "company worth investing in." I just need to look into what they're promising and not just bs Sorry for the scatter brain way of writing this down. Does this sound like a scam to you all? [link] [comments] |
Getting started with basic analysis Posted: 15 Apr 2019 07:46 PM PDT What is the most valuable book you've read that helped you learn how to analyze a stocks fundamentals. I don't want to buy on others recommendations without doing my own DD, but I really don't know where to begin. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Apr 2019 03:25 PM PDT Is it possible for small investors like me to cheaply invest in the following asset classes: absolute return, venture capital, leveraged buyouts? When taking portfolio theory about a decade ago, I recall that these asset classes are available to institutional investors but not small investors because the high expense ratios are high thus making then unattractive investments. I was wondering if that's still the case. I ask because for fiscal year ending June 2018, Yale had the following asset allocation and I was wondering if small investors can cheaply buy into absolute return, venture capital, and leveraged buyouts: absolute return 26% venture capital 18% foreign equity 15.5% leveraged buyouts 15% real estate 9.5% bonds and cash 6.5% natural resources 6.5% domestic equity 3% [link] [comments] |

BAC will Crush the Street tomorrow AND push through Stubborn Technical Resistance Posted: 15 Apr 2019 03:14 PM PDT I've been long on BAC since $12.18 and think it remains one of the most undersold big bank stocks. No one ever mentions it here. It still has plenty of upside. https://investorplace.com/2019/04/bank-of-america-will-likely-beat-on-earnings-expectations/ [link] [comments] |
