Posted: 03 Apr 2019 07:38 AM PDT Last spring my Dad passed away leaving me with a portion of his 401k. It wasn't a crazy amount, around $50k, and after paying off some debt I put $30k into an Ally account and bought AAPL, AMZN and a couple others right at the peak. My average share cost for AAPL was like $220 and almost $2k for AMZN. I knew they were high but I don't need this money for 30 or so years and took the "time in the market beats timing the market" to heart. Then fall came and things starting dropping, at one point after the Xmas eve drop I was down almost $10k....that hurt. I averaged down when I could, and tried to learn everything I could from here and other subs and articles. This sub was always full off sound advice and being a gift from my Dad I wanted to do this right and not panic. I saw others sell off and stopped looking at my account everyday, moved some things into ULTA and LULU, and today I can finally say I'm even. I haven't contributed much since last summer but it's been awesome learning to not panic and stick to my plan. Monday is the one year anniversary of his passing, and I feel like he would've been proud of what I did. I owe lots of that to this sub and all the sage advice. If anyone else is in that spot trust your research and don't go crazy. Time is on your side. [link] [comments] |

Ladybaybee recommended picks for 2019-04-03 Posted: 03 Apr 2019 09:27 AM PDT HOW I USE THIS: 1) All the stocks identified in the table are qualified as "BUY" opportunities. 2) I focus in the column "Success Rate(3m)" which shows the precision of the agents in the last 3 calendar months. I personally feel most comfortable with Rates 0.8 or higher. 3) Then, I see the number in "Tx(3m)" which represents the number of transactions that the agents predicted for this stock in the last 3 months. I prefer stocks that have had at least two transactions during this period. 4) Finally, I look at Growth(3m), if the agents have had a considerable growth (>5% in 3 months) then I follow that trade. 5) If a row in the table is colored green then it means that stock has been on the rise today so I purchase it immediately in order to ride the wave up. On the other hand, if the row is colored red, then I wait out until very close to market close to purchase the stock and let the price bottom out before climbing up again tomorrow. 6) After I purchase the stocks, I ALWAYS set a stop loss order at -2.5% from my buying price valid for the day. I think this is good hygiene, no matter how confident I am of my system, I still want to make sure that my losses are capped. I update this stop loss order every day. BACKGROUND I am not a financier or economist. I am electrical engineer with equal passion in artificial intelligence and financial markets. For the past 2 years I have been working on a system that would make short term predictions of stocks. The system is rather complex, I use multiple layers which include: Convolutional Neural Networks, LSTMs and Genetic Algorithms. All bulked together produce an output like in this image. The way to interpret the image is a follows: Symbol and Date columns are self explanatory, Quorum refers to autonomous agents that decide whether to BUY/NOT BUY or SELL/HOLD a stock. Each symbol has 9 agents, and the Quorum column, counts the number of agents that recommend Buy, Selling or Holding the stock. The "Not Owned" column means: if you don't own this stock then you should … The "Owned" column means: if you own this stock you should HOLD or SELL. The column "Growth(1 Year)" refers to what what has been the growth of this system of Agents in the past calendar year. The column "Tx(1Yr)" shows the number of full transactions that these agents recommended in the last calendar year. "Factor" is just the division of Growth divided by Transactions to get the average growth per transaction. Finally "Success Rate" shows how successful these agents have been in their recommendations in the past calendar year, success 1 means 100% successful, 0.5 means 50% successful, and so on. Many people have been curious about the actual process that the system follows, so here it is: for every symbol (600 stocks are analyzed daily), we get the full stock data (open, close, high, low, volume) for the past 4 months. Each stock is associated with another set of "lookalike" stocks as well as major ETF's. This initial dataset is run through a convolutional layer that extracts an undisclosed number of features. These features are then passed onto a recurrent neural network (LSTM) where sequences and patterns are extracted. The LSTM then spits out probabilities for the likelihood that this stock will have a positive, negative and neutral tendency in the next N days. These probabilities are then fed to a genetic evolution system (GES). This system essentially checks the predictions for the past N days and compares them with reality, following that the systems knows which predictions are performing the best. Once the system knows which stocks are being simulated the best, then the system automatically finds which of these best performing stocks have the biggest potential for the next few days. The system does not output explanations, unfortunately us humans are not capable of understanding (or visualizing) a problem of this dimensionality, for example the LSTM part alone works with over 10 million dimensions, not features but dimensions. Posted: 03 Apr 2019 01:31 PM PDT Stock crashed recently. You can see various form 4's dated March.25th. They filed an amended S-1 on March.21st. The shares were vested warrants priced at $11.50 created in a SPAC agreement. The reason I'm asking is because the only logical reason I can ascertain for why the stock crashed today is because of the insiders selling. Hope to hear your thoughts, thanks filings can be read here https://www.secinfo.com/$/SEC/Filings.asp?CIK=1665300&Find=&Page=1&List=Hits&Show=Each [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 09:00 AM PDT I've been sitting on this, hoping for today. Up 38%. I guess I just can't contain my excitement and had to get on here and share. So do I sit longer? Can it go another 35%? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 08:58 AM PDT Sorry if that's confusing...tried to break it down a little bit more using fake numbers... I have a brokerage account, IRA, and Roth IRA. Here's my question using random numbers. I only have $20k in each account, $60k in my Fidelity account. Can I make 4 trades EACH account (12 total) in a 5 day period, without being considered a day trader? Do I need $25k+ in each account ($75k+ total in Fidelity account) to make more than 4 trades in a 5 day period? Or do I only need $25k in my Fidelity account? I don't know if that was any better explained than it was in the title. Let me know if that's confusing! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:44 PM PDT Remember seeing a blurb six months ago "atvi will triple in 2 or 3 years." It might be a buy now but do you think that kind of growth is feasible? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Apr 2019 12:17 PM PDT I haven't dug into the fundamentals to much on $SSTI but I just love the idea. Gun violence is front and center constantly in the news cycle. New ways to track and deter gun violence is paramount in all municipalities right now. Seems that SSTI has a proven technology to help do so... Thoughts? Specifically fundamentals? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 11:42 AM PDT So now that the stock price come down to what I think everybody would say is a more realistic level, what are your thoughts on where the stock price goes from here? The company has yet to be profitable, but will likely be in business for quite a long time. I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts on this and if you think all the people shorting LYFT have made the right move. [link] [comments] |
Market Maker executing tiny orders Posted: 03 Apr 2019 08:52 AM PDT I'm watching DVAX on Level II. For the past year and a half I've seen trades executed with normal volume (100, 200, 1500 shares). However, as of the new year, I've started seeing trading done in small random sizes (4, 2, 5 shares). It seems weird that a Market Maker would be executing trades like this, unless they were trying to manipulate the stock price. But even if that's the case, what would be the full benefits of trading small orders like this? [link] [comments] |

Is it just me or is McKesson wildly undervalued? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 08:01 AM PDT Take a look at MCK and convince me not to double down on my position. P/E of 9? A $20B market cap on a company that takes in almost that much revenue in a month?! It's the fifth largest company in the world with a massive, captive market for its products and it seems like almost no one ever talks about it. Yes, they have recently replaced their CEO, but it was because of a retirement, not a scandal or poor performance. For the life of me I cannot justify why this company's stock price is so low. Disclosure: currently about 2% of my total portfolio is in MCK. Very strongly considering upping that to 5%. [link] [comments] |
what's the rule on brokers being able to lend out your shares to shorts? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:29 AM PDT with charles schwab and curious if there's a general rule/law around how brokers can lend your shares. i had heard that if you keep your shares in cash, that they can't lend it out or can you decide to lend it out and collect the carry charges? anyone know? why is SBUX so high atm? Don't they grow at like 1 or 2% lol? Posted: 03 Apr 2019 06:03 AM PDT 70+ really? This market i swear priced like a high growth tech stock [link] [comments] |

Corbus Pharmaceuticals. Good buy? Posted: 02 Apr 2019 06:37 PM PDT NASDAQ: CRBP forecasted to rise +230% over next twelve months. 100% of CNN Business analysts call it a buy. Thoughts? Opinions? [link] [comments] |
VICL: 70% Upside Value from Current Price Posted: 02 Apr 2019 07:49 PM PDT VICL trade idea, do your own research, this is not investment advise but educational content. Disclaimer I am long VICL. VICL is a shell company. This means it is non active and currently a vehicle for possible financial maneuvers. What's of interest is the balance sheet as VICL liquidation value is significantly above the price it currently trades. Looking at the balance sheet we need to discount assets that will be difficult to convert to cash. Figures in millions* Cash $11,870 - no discount needed. Marketable Sec. $36,201 no discount needed. Receivables and other assets $1,128 - 70% discounted value = $790. Long term investments (bonds) $2,386 - 90% discounted value = $2,147. Equipment + other assets $759 - 30 % discounted value = $227. Total liquidation value of assets - $51,235. Liabilities don't not get discounted they are almost always the same as listed on balance sheet. Liabilities on balance sheet - $3,581. Total liquidation value $47,654. Total shares outstanding 21,820,195. Per share =$2.18. Now since company is now a shell cash burn should drop significantly as company isn't doing much. Cash burn may be slightly over $1 million /year. Very manageable and wont destroy thesis, if company takes time exploring options. We can see a reverse merger similar to GTXI (check chart). Or company liquidates. Worst case company buys new drug candidate, possibly overpays for another business. Overall low risk trade with sizable reward:risk profile. Time line for trade is under a year. Reverse merger could be announced at any time, thinking news within 3 months. [link] [comments] |
How much is Matson Shipping worth? Posted: 02 Apr 2019 11:28 PM PDT Just using this as an example, but I'm frequently confused when numbers are written like this. According to Fortune.com, Matson's market value is $1,222 million. A thousand million? That's not how we write numbers where I'm from. Does it mean $1.222 billion (aka $1,222,000,000)?
