Is i worth starting with no degree?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 07:41 AM PDT

IT. I'm a 21 male and I'm tired of working different jobs and I want something stable. I've been really interested in sales lately and was wondering even if I don't have a degree would I be able to grow in a sales position starting from the bottom? I'm an introvert, but can easily be social and good with people if I necessarily have to. I have no one to support but myself so I guess it wouldn't hurt to apply at some jobs and try?

    How to use Linkedin

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 07:30 PM PDT

I am going to share with you how I was able to use Linkedin to take advantage of a time where you can find so much about any decision maker.

    1. I take advantage of my alumni network. Where you graduated from or any commonality you can leverage will have a much higher chance when mentioned in an email for a response. My emails usually go like.

Subject line: Go Scarlet Knights! (This was our school mascot)

    Hey Mike,

As a fellow Scarlet Knight myself, I am putting together a happy hour with other co-founders in the professional services space. Many PR/Comm agencies founders see value in discussing best practices with other Rutgers alums. In this digital age, it's nice to spend some time with humans right?

I am hosting an event at Harvest Moon at 6 pm on the 25th of April and though you would enjoy meeting everyone.

Click on this link to confirm your attendance.

I have found Linkedin especially effective to get people to go to your events that you are hosting- conferences, seminars, I have gotten a ton of people to come to conferences in Vegas with me, etc. I have found it better for than for using Inmail to book a meeting.

    1. The extreme follow up. I connect on Linkedin with every single person I have ever met in life. Even if we just once through a mutual friend. I add everyone but you just never know.

    1. The super prepared- Before a meeting with a prospect I will research everything that I can to know everything about the leadership team, any mutual connections to gain any insights at all or to see what he or she is interested in checking to see what companies and groups he or she is following. The more information I have the more I can figure out what archetype he or she is. There is a tool called Crystal knows that can analyze a person's archetype just from reading their Linkedin profiles.

    1. Staying top of mind, social media in moderation can help you build your brand. I connect with prospect/ client/ channel partner and people often tell me I like your quote of the day or whatever. The point is, I am always top of mind if anyone is thinking HCM or human resources, I am your guy.

    1. Be able to promote your events to gain attendance. For any meetups that you host, Linkedin a great way to get people to come out. I host about 4 events a month, and I often use Linkedin to message people to come out. People check their Linkedin and don't get in trouble as much compared to when they texting back and forth.

    1. Recommendations help: By receiving a lot of recommendations, it helps you get more Recruiter messages. This can be good or bad. Too many recruiter messages takes your focus away at being present, but who am I kidding? It's great for your ego!

    1. Use Linkedin to leverage second connections. I will use Sales Navigator to find out who is connected to who. Being a giver, people are more likely to help you out then when you are asking all of the time.

    1. You can toggle by titles and roles. I will do very specific searches for Operations, Finance, Accounting, and search by management titles. This helps me by more targeted when building out my lists. I am not wasting time calling non-decision makers.

    1. You can download information and get everyone's email addresses and sometimes their phone numbers. This helps you manage your data better. It also helps you have a 10k foot view of how you want to stay in touch with having it on a spreadsheet is much more effective in managing your relationships.

    1. You can reach out to mentors. I have reached out to every single podcast guest I listen to. There has not been an easier time to get mentors and build relationships with people you normally would never be able to talk to. Take advantage of it.

I will write about how to do #10 in detail in the next one.

    Business development within hospitality.

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 08:59 AM PDT

    Hi guys,

I've got the opportunity to present an overview of things I would do to develop a new business I'm working within. I'm currently a bartender for the company however I have some sales experience but not in hospitality.

The bar itself is a high-end cocktail bar that offers food and a unique activity bar similar to a simulation golf range. The target audience ranges from kids during the holidays and business and corporate events throughout the year.

I was wondering if anyone with experience in hospitality business development could give me some tips and advice on the types of things I could do and how I should present my overview.

    Thank you

    Should I read SPIN Selling?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 03:18 AM PDT

Background: 22M straight out of college. I interned with the MSE div at Gartner and will now be joining a smaller local firm that focuses on Quality Assurance mainly for banks and financial institutions. This is my first real job, so I'm a little nervous about it and want to put my best foot forward.

I've seen a lot of people here recommend SPIN Selling as the right book for strong sales reading, however many have also written that the book makes more sense once you've spent a decent amount of time in sales.

I've a small break before I start my first job and was wondering whether I should give it a go since I've nothing much to do or if I should wait and read it later to get the most out of the book.

    What exactly is Account Management?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 05:16 AM PDT

It seems to fall within the Sales field. From my understanding it involves customer retention, but aside from that how else is it related to sales?

What type of tech job would suit me?

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 07:43 AM PDT

Hi! I want to get into sales and I would like to narrow my focus a bit, even though i might not get that level of sales job straight away I would like to know what to aim for and what to work towards.

I´ve always been an IT nerd and I love to find the best solutions to hardware and software related things. I also like digital marketing, so if there is some kind of job which has a mix of them that would be amazing.

Based on that, what kind of tech sales jobs / keywords and companies would you recommend me to search for?

Any good reads (digital or paper) on supporting/understanding sales

    Posted: 07 Apr 2019 11:11 AM PDT

    Hello,

So I am not in sales, but I am in a role where I do some analytics work for sales. I'm looking to get a better understanding of the sales ecosystem as I'm relatively new to the firm and don't have a background in any role around sales.

Really looking for information on how the ecosystem generally works (Business Development, Account Development, Client Managers, Marketing, etc)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I'm starting into a travel sales career. I am brand new to sales in general. The job comes with a lot of training which will help immensely but in my day to day life I get really nervous talking to strangers. Did anyone out there start their career in sales like this? Any current introverts? Any tips on how you overcame this or are currently dealing with would be greatly appreciated!

What are your “Unsafe” Topics for Rapport Building.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 12:32 PM PDT

As we all know, pre-sales rapport building with prospects is crucial.

During the week I was dealing with a prospect whose former place of employment was directly beside a place I used to work. "Great" I thought. "Some common ground here". Her ex-company has reputation for being tough player but getting great results for their clients. I know some of the people there and I was like "cool, great company. They get really great results". The verbal response (and body language) was tepid to say the least. I immediately sensed I had rightly stepped in it. She went on to say that while she had worked there for a few years, she left because of it's ethos. And of course, I was seen as the supporter of her nemesis! Needless to say, I never made the sale. And there was me thinking that it was current previous / employers was a "safe topic". While religion and politics are obvious topics to avoid, what are your "unsafe" topics for rapport building?

AE's: what sets the top performer at your organization apart

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 03:14 PM PDT

I'll be moving from an SDR role to an AE - I was the top performer as an SDR - I want to carry that over to AE. I feel like my prospecting, tenacity, and love of getting "no's" will help me as an AE.

I want to hear what top performers are doing - how do they split their days? what resources do they use at home (books, podcasts etc) to sharpen their tools.

If you are, or know a top performer - let me know what you or they are doing!

I've not done full cycle before, but I'm not going to let that stop me being the best I can possibly be.

If you want to give me some advice on books (specifics to the AE SaaS role - I've read SPIN and the other big names) I'd greatly appreciate that.

    Thanks

Open-ended Questions to Ask for When Selling Internet to Businesses. (SMB)

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 05:16 PM PDT

Looking to expand my current list of open-ended questions when calling into businesses and trying to get them to talk to me regarding their internet service. My current list of questions are:

    1. Who is your current service provider?
    2. How long have you been with said provider?
    3. How much do you pay a month for your internet service?
    4. Are you currently in a contract?
      1. How much time is left in your contract?
    5. What do you use your internet for?

If you have any you'd like to add, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Is a sales job worth it just for 4 months?

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 03:48 PM PDT

So I've always wanted to start working in sales!! I currently work at a senior home as a server and I honestly do not enjoy work anymore, there's no growth, and none of the staff members get along and it's very draining. I plan on going to school in the fall for Computer science (unrelated I know lol) but I am wondering, would a sales job be worth it for only 4/5 months? I would love to gets sales experience on my resume, but if I'm only doing it for such a short time, I feel like I won't make any money, (compared to my job now where I get paid a good amount).

Does anyone have experience with this? Would it be a smart idea to get my foot in the door with sales to open more doors in the future? Or will I get crushed by others salesmen? Thanks!!

    Outbound Prospecting

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 03:44 PM PDT

Hey guys, I'm a sophomore in college getting ready to start selling subscriptions on my app startup.

The startup is an app to replace business cards. 88% of business cards are thrown out within the first week, my app saves them permanently on the lead's phone and generates their business card automatically for you so you can follow up with them and add them to your CRM.

Those of you doing outbound/door to door SaaS sales, where are you getting your best results? Right now, I figured I'd do a lot on LinkedIn but I can't think of much else. Open to any and all suggestions please!

    Sales Intern Interview Tech

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 06:17 PM PDT

    Hey all!

I am interviewing for a sales intern role in a big tech company in my city. I have been in D2D sales for 2 years and ready to transition and got this interview opportunity. I have never really had any real interviews like this for a big company so I am a little nervous on what to expect and how to "sell" myself. I love sales and have no problem with that and really enjoyed D2D if that helps.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for this sub!

Who are your favorite Decision Makers to reach out to? (Sales Rep/Associates)

    Posted: 06 Apr 2019 12:40 PM PDT

I have experience from medical sales and B2B with human resources.

So far I love working with human resources, as they're easier to reach out to and speak to. With doctors it's VERY difficult.

Was curious to see who do you all reach out to when emailing and cold calling, and in your experience found as your favorite and why?
