The Money Has Already Been Made Posted: 21 Apr 2019 09:25 PM PDT There's an old saying, that the ones who got rich during the gold rush were the ones selling the shovels. That's what we'll be focusing on today. Shovels. Fuck the gold mine, we're all about those shiny Shovels around here baby! You probably already know this, but as a rule of thumb, once you see it on the news, the money has already been made. From here, you can either sell bs courses to the mimics or disregard what you've heard entirely and move on to the next big thing. In no scenario, should you find yourself trying to copy what you've seen done on the news. The reason: Near-Instant Market Hyper Saturation. Once it's on the news, millions will rush to copy the idea. And in an instant, every market has become hyper saturated. There are no profits to be made, as everybody is racing to the bottom in competitive pricing. To see this in action, visit UpWork (freelancing site), where people are offering to do high skill jobs for $0.05 /hour in the vain struggle to become relevant. Example 1: Drop Shipping. I recall some time ago, watching Fox News in a hotel during a trip to Alabama. While watching, there was a segment about some college dude who was making thousands every month drop shipping stuff from Aliexpress. Soon after, there was a massive influx of "experts" looking to teach risk-averse individuals the "guaranteed RISK FREE way to make money drop shipping". Courses = shovels. Example 2: Retail Arbitrage. Again, I recall watching the news. There was a segment about some guy who made millions every month buying stuff on sale @ Walmart and selling it on Amazon & Ebay. Within an hour, there were more "experts" on the internet than there were butt pics of Asa Akira. Courses = shovels. For my next example, I'm gonna stop bitching about courses, and start bitching about software platforms :) For every 1 successful Shopify store, there are 1000 failures. Either way, Shopify makes money. Of course, it's also true that most people with a shopify store are lazy af & can't be bothered to edit the broken English or take an extra 5 minutes to polish the site with some professional looking stuff (reviews, for example). Drop Shipping Platforms (eg, Shopify) = Shovels. Stop trying to dig for gold. That shit is pretty much hit or miss, even if you have a decent grasp on what you should do to succeed. Instead, manufacture some shovels, and start trying to sell those fuckeroos like they're your Grandma! [link] [comments] |
Noob here. Does anyone have experience finding manufacturers for their products? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:38 AM PDT I will need to get my patent-pending creation manufactured/assembled in high capacity (I don't think cottage industry is going to cut it) at some point. My question to everyone is: how did you go about finding manufacturers and vetting them? Thank you! [link] [comments] |

Few hardships of a Cleaning Service.. Any advice would be appreciated Posted: 22 Apr 2019 09:37 AM PDT Hello folks, long time lurker here but first time poster. I am starting up a cleaning service in the sunny state of FL. After a few weeks of researching, reading articles, other entrepreneurs ride along stories I got inspired and registered the Fictitious name, obtained Business Tax Receipt from the City and the County. I wanted to start this business with as little $ amount as I could and start pouring more money as I start making money. A few hardships I'm experiencing already... I found out you're not allowed to put anything in anybody's mailbox so going around dropping off flyers is not an option. You can't leave a flyer in a drive way either (which I understand) because that would be littering. This left me with sending traditional mail envelope's with a flyer and a business card possibly. I also looked into getting a basic website build with the necessary functions for about $150-$200. The domain alone will probably cost $100/yr. Filing for an LLC will cost $125 in my state and a yearly fee of around $130. I haven't talked to a Tax Consultant or Advisor yet as I know that will be costly as well and I'm trying to do my own research on everything I can to save some $ and go to a Tax Consultant once I got money coming in. I feel a little overwhelmed by all this and I understand you have to spend money to make money but I am a little thrown off by the fact that I don't have any money coming in yet, I have to drop some $ just to see how things will go.. In the beginning I wanted to go as a Sole Proprietorship but then quickly realized just to CYA I must have an LLC especially going into people's houses cleaning etc.. We are a very happy Country/State to sue for everything! I am full of ideas but to execute everything is usually the hardest part... I have to figure out pricing based on my competitors in the area, get a company logo made for the website, get the website made before sending out flyers, handing out business cards, have the LLC filed and have Insurance before all this.. I just feel like the money is flowing out of my hand but not flowing back in. I might just be a little over worried but I wanted to ask Reddit for advice! [link] [comments] |
I want to sell my Graphic Design business. Ideas of where to list it? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 06:13 AM PDT Hey /r/entrepreneur. So over the past year or so, I've been working on growing my graphic design business on a scalable business model. I've got over $2100 MRR currently, and it's very very simple graphic design work. Less than 20hrs a week usually. Easily could be outsourced inexpensively. I'm taking on a full-time offer from another company, and do not want to let my design business suffer. It's a fantastic setup for a seasoned freelancer to beef up their client base, or for a potential designer who needs that extra push to make them pull the trigger on working for themselves from home. I'm considering either hiring more freelancers to help run this business, or honestly, I'd be happy to sell it for a one-time lump fee. I am getting married soon and can use all the cash I can. I'm not looking to sell to someone here specifically, but I was hoping we could get a discussion going about WHERE I can sell a graphic design business like this? Any ideas? Flippa seems to have changed their ways drastically. I've just never really trusted that crowd. Anyone with success using a site like this? Any other ideas where to list such a company? How do you market a brand effectively? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:31 AM PDT Without brand awareness, it is impossible to develop a business. So, it will be great for business owners to find relevant tactics to market a brand. [link] [comments] |
Viral marketing scheme on Instagram Posted: 22 Apr 2019 01:09 PM PDT I've been seeing a lot of people sharing these posts on their stories lately that say things like "for every x likes we'll do y something". For example today I'm seeing people share a post that says for every 10 likes we'll plant 1 tree. When you go to the page they have 1 post and it has over a million likes. I saw another post like this around a week ago but instead it said it was gonna do something for every view the video gets or something and everyone I follow was posting it on their story. But anyways, what my question is, is do you guys think these people behind these posts actually do what they say they'll do or are they just using this clever marketing scheme to make people feel like they're doing something right by sharing their posts (or maybe both)? Eco-Friendly T-Shirts Made From 6 Recycled Plastic Bottles Posted: 22 Apr 2019 12:53 PM PDT Happy Earth Day everyone! I am a senior undergraduate student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and recently launched an Environmental Company on March 1st called Greenstain. Greenstain provides environmentally sustainable solutions and plants a tree for every item we sell. Our "Phase 1" is eco-friendly apparel due to the fashion industry being one of the top polluting industries in the world. Each Greenstain shirt is made from 6 recycled plastic water bottles and requires less water (~490 gallons compared to traditional methods), chemicals, and crude oil during the manufacturing process. I am extremely passionate about the environment and sustainability and am looking to go full time with Greenstain once I graduate in two weeks. Any feedback on what I have so far would be immensely helpful! If you feel inspired to share the brand, purchase a shirt, or have any possible contacts that Greenstain could have a mutualistic relationship with, please message me or check out the Greenstain Website. Anything helps as most of you already know from your early startup days. Additionally, if there's anything I can do for you definitely don't hesitate to reach out! Thanks for your time and much love. Good, low-initial-cost business ideas for a teenager? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:58 AM PDT I'm 16 and I've got around $150 in my bank account. What business can I start? I like the idea of mowing lawns/landscaping but it's a seasonal business. [link] [comments] |
Using a Facebook page successfully. [Nugget of wisdom from a super successful guy] Posted: 22 Apr 2019 12:29 PM PDT Over the weekend I received some advice from a very successful business owner who built his success using his Facebook page. Here is the very basic lesson he taught me: Over the weekend I attended a St. Jude fundraiser where I networked some incredibly successful people. I sat next to an extremely successful business owner who told me that his business was became successful because of his use of social media. It's probably better if I paraphrase our conversation: Him - "My business became successful because of social media" Me - "So do you outsource your social media?" Him - "No I do it all myself." Me - "How often do you post? Once a day? Twice a day? Is there a specific time of day you post?" Him - "I just post whenever. I don't have a set schedule. Could be every few days. Just depends on the day." Me - "So what do you think it is that made your page so successful." Him - "The key is people want to feel like they are part of your business and part of your success. I post a lot about my employees. Here is a post of us surprising a guy that has been with us since the beginning with a birthday cake. [Shows me post] The key is to be genuine. They want to know what you and [my business partner] are up to. They want to feel like they are part of your day to day." Me - "Are there specific types of posts that get more likes?" Him - "For some reason we get less likes during the holiday. But other then that I don't think there is a pattern. It just depends. [He scrolls through his posts showing me some that have just 67 likes and other that have over 600]" Take away: This guy is a genuinely nice guy and he let's that show through his posts and his page. He works 80 hours a week and still runs his page himself. His most recent picture was of him and his son for Easter. It had little to do with his actual business. He does post offerings he has and additions to his menu. But really it's pictures of his product, his staff and himself. It is not cold and businesslike like many corporations. You feel like a part of the business by engaging and being on his page. Let me know your thoughts and your success on Facebook pages. Is it a good idea to buy a "failing" global Fast Food store for $44k? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 07:23 AM PDT Hi everyone, So I recently found out about a fast food restaurant for sale for $44k. This is a well-known, global brand. What I don't understand is why the asking price is only $44k, besides the obvious guess which is that the location of this store (directly next to a chipotle and no easy pull-up access to the main road it's sitting by). What type of information should I ask the franchising operator about regarding this store's financials? I've never bought a franchise or restaurant before, this is my first time doing anything like this, so any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 22 Apr 2019 02:04 AM PDT I'm saving money as i want to buy a farm and start a wedding venue rental business and do other activities around the farm like organic agriculture and adventure outdoors. But my main and primary goal will be to convert it into a beautiful place to be attractive enough to hold weddings and other events. I would like to hear for someone that works in this area of business some advice and suggestions :). How did you start ? What were you doing before? Why you chose this industry ? How much did you invest at the beginning? Any regrets ? [link] [comments] |

Best program for: Ideation +Crowdfunding + Product Design + Manufacturing + Sales Scaling Posted: 22 Apr 2019 08:50 AM PDT Hey guys! I've tried Amazon FBA before and Dropshipping, and it's this point it's pretty hard to succeed with most products, because it has turned into nothing but price/ad wars for the same product with a different label. I'd like to go a different route and design my own product from scratch. I wander which programs provide training and support from Idea Creation, to crowdfunding, find a proven reliable manufacturer, and have a process to scale the business. "EnterChina" program seems to have it all. However, I'm a bit turned off by their "100% success rate", even though they claim they refund in case of in-success. https://khierstyn.com/case-study There's a bit more info out there on Khierstyn program from the podcast Crowdfunding Uncut. So, I'm sort of looking for a "All in One" program that supports from Ground Zero until the product is selling on its own. Cheers :) [link] [comments] |
Has anyone started a Saas company? If so, how did you find users for feedback on your MVP? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 02:12 PM PDT I'm currently in the process of developing a simple MVP for a side project I've been working on with my friend. We both have hopes of turning it into a full-fledged and funded startup but don't know how to get user feedback. Does anyone have experience with that? [link] [comments] |
Sole proprietor - reimburse friend/associate for mileage? Posted: 22 Apr 2019 02:08 PM PDT Just registered as a sole proprietor. A friend drove from a couple of hours away to pitch in and offer his expertise on my project. He's not legally affiliated with my business, he's just helping out. I'd like to at least reimburse his mileage - can I give him $100 gas card and deduct this as a business expense? Or would I need to do a whole 1099? [link] [comments] |
Noob opening dropshipping store Posted: 22 Apr 2019 02:08 PM PDT I'm not happy with the look or feel or my store but can't put my finger on why. I'm trying to be more appealing to new customers. Any criticism or help would be appreciated! I'm a complete noob. [link] [comments] |
Unsure how to monetize my webapp Posted: 22 Apr 2019 01:56 PM PDT I've created a fairly simple(relatively speaking) crud web app focused on a specific niche where people can post tasks/jobs they need done in this niche, and professionals can send quotes/bid. I would be offering a scheduling service(fairly simply with calendly, but they don't need to know that) as well as a directory to the professionals and portfolios if they have them. Also considering creating a separate app for the professionals to create a portfolio that I could highlight on the site or something along those lines. My current monetization idea is to charge a subscription fee to the professionals for the account, scheduling, portfolio hosting if they choose, and of course access to the work. In addition to that I've been thinking of charging the posters to list a job. Now this is only a thought at the moment because this niche is pretty rough with people offering "exposure bucks" and I want my platform to eliminate as much of that as possible. Thoughts? I don't have the web app up yet so there isnt a site to go through. This is just me exploring ideas. Edit: I'm also well aware this is quite similar to something like fiverr or upwork, but this niche isnt something you can do virtually, so I'm hoping to get local markets [link] [comments] |
New as a "sales rep" for Chinese factory.. Posted: 22 Apr 2019 01:41 PM PDT Hey. So, long story short I'm now a sales rep for a very large Chinese shoe factory. Typical big, big name contracts and that sort of thing, definitely with companies I've heard of here in the US. What they want me for is an English-speaking representative to try to bring on more to the smaller players in the US, like stores with fewer than 40 locations instead of the 15k locations they're used to. These are wholesale shoes though with no real branding. A handful are just plain "fake" branding like Suprome or Rebok. But the women's business and fashion-ish shoes though look really nice to me (but I'm a guy). COMPLETELY new to this space, where should I start learning or posting about what I'm doing to attract buyers? I've already spoken to one store owner with one location and she was like there's no way I have capital for even the minimum 200 pair MOQ. (Though they seem to expect more like 1000+ pair orders.) So where do people like this hang out? Any advice? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Mobile Car Wash or Self-Service Car Wash Posted: 22 Apr 2019 01:22 PM PDT Hey there guys, so I've been in a very big "research process" at the moment about Mobile Car Washes. Everyone is saying that is not a profitable and scalable business but I've been doing some maths and seems like a good plan. I know all these maths are just estimative and probably not true, but what do you think about that? I could offer the service at the same price that normal car washes offer. EDIT: The city has around 650.000 people population and over 150.000 registered cars. About the self-service car wash, I was thinking about starting one in a city that's not too populated. The city has about 20.000 people and it's a mountain resort. There are already 3 normal car washes that are doing great. What do you think, is it worth it building something like that in a small city like this? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
