I Challenged Myself to Work 10 Hours a Day for 50 Days Posted: 30 Apr 2019 08:30 AM PDT 50 Days At the beginning of the new year I started an experiment. I was going to work 50 days straight with at least 10 productive hours every single day. My goal is complete. From January 1st to February 19 I worked at least 10 hours every single day, with some days as much as 15 hours of productive time. This is my experience. For those who are more visual I will link to my video in the below that goes over all this information with some cool visuals Overview I'm going to first go over my schedule, touch on productivity, followed by my mentality throughout, and lastly the effects and concerns I noticed. I would to preface this by saying this is not me condoning lack of sleep, I don't function well on lack of sleep. The goal was productivity not how long I could stay up. while doing this challenge I slept 7-8 hrs every single night. Schedule I set a very consistent schedule of waking up between 4:45 and 5am everyday then I would eat breakfast and be at the gym by 6am except for Monday's I'd skip the gym. Then I'd be at work by 7:45am to greet employees coming in at 8am. My work after that Mon-Fri would be a mix of in office work or out of the office marketing until 7pm when I would come home eat, play piano and go to sleep. On weekends I would stay at the office only until noon so I could then spend the rest of the day working on videos, cooking, doing laundry, and prepping for the upcoming week. Whenever I was driving I would listen to audiobooks. The time I consider work is time spent running my companies or time working on these videos. Total productive time is categorized as any time doing productive non-leisure activities. Things like work, exercise, piano, and reading. Productivity The first week or so it was hard to wake up that early but after the first week it was a breeze. I timed my daily activities before and during this challenge with an app called aTimelogger. Before this challenge I woke up around 6am worked 45-60 hours a week on my companies and 80ish total hours of productive time. During the last 6 weeks I have upped my normal amount by as much as 70% even clocking in a few perfect weeks which is what I define as a week I literally couldn't have spent anymore productive time without foregoing sleep. The amount I was able to complete any given week was without a doubt at least double the amount normal despite only spending 70% more time working. I noticed that by simply being aware that no matter what all I would be doing is working the entire day and not expecting rest made me search out more and more things things to do. I was completing all of the "it would be nice to try" things instead of just thinking about them and how I'll get to them someday. I got a massive marketing accomplishment completed on top of my normal workload which I documented the entire process and dubbed "500 Connections" which is returning me me 10s of thousands a month (I will link below). I found that the more I did the more I wanted to do more like a ball rolling down a hill gaining momentum and I found myself wanting to see what my absolute limits were. As far as workouts go I didn't have much of an issue making it to the gym although I did notice having slightly less energy and excitement to get a workout in. Getting this much done was as much an exercise in not doing things as it was in doing them. I didn't turn on the TV once, I didn't sit around on social media when I should have been working, I didn't lay in bed for an hour before getting up because I simply framed it in my mind that that wasn't an option to do those things. And the craziest thing was I didn't even have desire to do those things. During this period I couldn't have been more pleased with the productivity however it probably wasn't 100% sustainable Mentality: Despite some drawbacks later on I felt extremely satisfied and happy with myself day after day. I am someone who prides himself in being a hard worker and it was an amazing feeling to look back week after week and know that I couldn't have given anymore effort and was surprised in how much I could actually handle. If you're like me and like to be identified as a hard worker I will tell you right now if you're really putting in the hours people will notice and they will comment much quicker than you think. Within 3 weeks of consistent work I received almost daily comments from employees about how many hours i've been putting in or being crazy for how late I was there the night before. I sat on the sofa one day after work and my brother said to someone "this is the longest you'll ever see him sitting down" I am a calm person by default but during this marathon I was even more calm, had lower stress and had zero anxious moments, most likely due to a combination of being exhausted and not having any time to sit and worry about anything. It actually increased my confidence. Negatives However the mind-shift that I could do nothing but productive things negatively impacted my social life. The thought of going on a date or out to the bar sounded like the furthest thing from enjoyable. I found myself not texting people back and turning down every social event. I knew If I went out I would be wishing I was back in the office getting my work done. This is obviously not a sustainable lifestyle but I was afraid to stop my momentum. The worst side effects were mentally after about day 30 I noticed myself becoming increasingly forgetful and my mind slipping. I lost my car keys more than once, locked keys inside a crate at work, and had to start writing down nearly every task I had to do as soon as I thought of it, I even shut the garage door on my car once. After around day 35 my ability to play piano regressed massively in the evening felt like I went back a year and was re-learning to play again. Obviously there was something negative happening in my brain on the last stretch but several times I tried to research if it is actually harmful to work all day for extended periods without mental breaks and the only studies I could find had to do with lack of sleep so if anyone can find a study on this please send it to me. The entire time I slept enough and ate enough so I am unsure what was happening internally, I was only the guinea pig in this experiment. Overall I am glad I did this and my biggest takeaway is we are all capable of much more than we think we are. I think it is sometimes necessary to find our limits in order to be able to grasp how much we can actually handle. And my recommendation to anyone trying to be more productive is to set highly specific goals and track your progress, maybe make a project out of it like this. I wouldn't have thought I was capable of doing this until I did and although I probably won't do a stretch this long again I feel that now that I've done it regular 20-25 day stretches seems much more doable with an entirely new frame of reference. I finally unsubscribed from Grant Cardone Posted: 29 Apr 2019 11:28 PM PDT All day everyday, via different methods gimmicks all that guy (or his marketing team) does is send emails to join his so called Cardone University. Every. Damn. Day. Five times a day that guy tries to sell his stuff University by clickbaiting titles like "5000$ worth of courses for free" accompanied by a payment of 100$ for accessing the material. I used to have massive respect for this guy and liked his podcasts but let me tell you all these marketeers do is brag about their riches on Instagram and bait into following them and purchasing their stuff. I want to teach people to code. Posted: 29 Apr 2019 05:56 PM PDT Hi, I'm a coder. But honestly I'm more of a teacher. I'm also a security guard. Or I was, anyway. After a decade of being a security guard I taught myself to code. I know what you need to know to do this. I've also been trying to start several businesses -- I sell fishing lures on amazon, I sell bumper stickers, I do retail arbitrage, and I also create e-commerce sites for small businesses on the side. But I kinda think what I want to do is teach people to code, in groups. Like a standard classroom style thing -- maybe on twitch? I dont know. But personalized, I want to help people on a 1on1 basis learn to code. Do I just say "hey ill teach you how to code, $50/hour?" Do I do the $100 business plan for web development tutoring? Cheers [link] [comments] |

What to Major in other than Entrepreneurship at Uni? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:41 PM PDT My dream has always been to own my own business and to be an entrepreneur, however, majoring in entrepreneurship is not ideal because I would like to major in something that (more or less) guarantees a job out of college. I'm currently majoring in Management Information Systems but I don't want to be sitting behind a computer all day everyday. My question is, what are some good majors that would be useful for me in wanting to start a business, but also gives the security I need for a job in the future. [link] [comments] |
Anyone here found actual value in LinkedIn? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 02:36 PM PDT On the surface, LinkedIn is supposed to be for "networking". What I've noticed from using it is that this is all that happens: - everyone is telling everyone how they can increase their organic reach on LinkedIn - mums and dads are trying their hand at vlogging (this is fucking hilarious might I add) - spamming people's inbox with ads - spamming people's inbox with recruitment Does anyone here genuinely enjoy LinkedIn? Or consistently find real value in it? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 30 Apr 2019 01:42 PM PDT Hi, My fiancee recently did a course for botox treatments, she was a nurse for the pas 10 years or so, so she is pretty comfortable working with needles and such. Now after she got is qualified, almost 2 months, she had only 2 customers. I am a software developer so I can create her a website and a mobile app so she can stand apart from other people. She hasn't got a a saloon of her own, so she must work from home. Please if someone has experience in this or can give an advice on how to advertise her? I know nothing about digital marketing and so does she, but at least I can build a few platforms for her, thank you! [link] [comments] |
Building an eCommerce partnership. Posted: 30 Apr 2019 01:37 PM PDT First of all, I would like to thank this community for everything it does. I come here frequently, this sub constantly inspires me. I have owned two businesses that were service based; however, I have gone through some life changing events that caused me to lose everything. I am essentially starting over from nothing. I have recently found a partner that wants to pursue eCommerce with me. I initially was saving capital to go at it alone. Through networking, this potential partner took an interest in working with me. He is willing to invest capital, up to 5k usd, while I handle all of the operations of the business. We have settled on a 50/50 partnership. I will have all final decisions when it comes to operation of the business. We have agreed to only take profit once the business can sustain growth. I am wanting to form an LLC . My thoughts on this are a bit scattered as far as when and how much we pay ourselves. Should we put 1/3 of net profit away for taxes and split the other 2/3 or should we each have a salary of the net. This is my first venture into eCommerce and we both understand that this could go to zero quickly, but are willing to pursue eCommerce until we find a niche or product that works for our goals. Any and all help is appreciated, even if it is inquiring as to other parts of the business that I may or may not have overlooked. Thanks again for any and all assistance provided, I wish you all success in your business endeavors. [link] [comments] |

Should a competitive space and being beaten to market deter my ambitions? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 01:06 PM PDT I was sitting on an idea for a very long time (about 6 months) and today I got an ad in my Facebook feed trying to sell me the exact product/service that I was planning on building. It looks like they are already in business for 2 years now, with 40 employees and 10 more job openings. Then I found out that they have been Product Hunted (~1000 votes). Going through their Product Hunt page, I see comments of another 20-30 founders competing in the same space with similar but not the same ideas. My question is this - This is not my baby project but I have been very passionate about it. But the competition and so many companies already so much ahead of me intimidate me. I have several other ideas too but this one was on top of the list. So, at this point should I continue working on it for another 3 months or just quit and move on? [link] [comments] |

Have Anyone Bought Website From Brokerage Sites like Empireflippers / Flippa etc? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:47 PM PDT I'm looking to buy a business that can help me to generate a passive and consistent income with minimal work or fully passive, I've had some background in SEO, and some experience in selling online, though not something big. I wanted to create more cashflow with this site or business. Have any of you bought a website from those marketplace, could you tell me does it usually breakeven and continuously generating income afterwards? I'm looking at some listings matching my criteria (minimal work), but the profit aren't consistent. So far Flippa contain more low quality sites, while Empireflippers site have higher standards but also higher multiplier.

People who have done crowdfunding campaigns. What happened after you got the funding? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:20 PM PDT |
Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:12 PM PDT I am the owner of a product photography business. At the moment, I am trying out different ideas for attracting customers. So far, every customer I have gained so far has been from directly emailing different businesses. While it has proven to be a successful means of gaining clients, I am wondering if a free giveaway is a good way to draw in new customers? Has anyone here had any luck with give aways? And do you feel as though it is a good return on investment? Here is a link to the giveaway page- https://blonostudio.com/giveaway [link] [comments] |
Posted: 30 Apr 2019 12:09 PM PDT Looking for feedback on my website: www.appterrain.io. It's b2b software so I'm wondering how much I should worry about optimization for mobile, but general feedback, especially on content, and when viewed on desktop, is appreciated as well. [link] [comments] |
Are there many opportunities to do internet marketing in the music / music education field? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:34 AM PDT I have experience creating Facebook ads, landing pages, email funnels... I want to support myself as a contractor doing that type of work, to pay for music school. I figure doing ads for music educational courses or other music-related products would be a way to learn more and get into the industry faster. Is this a good idea? I know music might not be the best market (musicians are not usually loaded in cash) but I wanted to ask your opinion, thinking of moving my life in this direction. [link] [comments] |
Can branding be free just by making decisions based on brand vision? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:26 AM PDT
Meaning it doesn't cost more money to do things in line with brand vision. If it solves a pain for them. If its super innovative. If it has great quality. If it means they fit in with the 'in crowd'. When a brand is eco friendly, care for the environment brand you could just use recycled materials in the product or packaging. Could fulfilling brand vision through any point of contact provide value? 2.Additionally can you measure how much ROI you will get from branding campaigns (that cost extra capital than what I described above)? Posted: 30 Apr 2019 11:03 AM PDT Hi all, So, i wanted to kindly request for some advice regarding my current predicament. I've spent the best part of two years building a peer-to-peer Bitcoin/Altcoin exchange as a private side project (I'm a developer and designer by trade and based in the UK). Minus infrastructure it is ready to go live. Yet i'm not at the right place in my life to go live for numerous reasons including funding, family and time required. Additionally, it would be a shame to half-heartedly go live with such an extensive product and see it fail because of the time i did not have to commit to it when rather it would be more beneficial for me at this time to go for an early sale. So, i wanted to seek out advice in terms of gaining traction in finding a buyer for the product. I've thought about brokers and i am even open to offering a commission for a referral (eg friends of friends who may be interested) however i'm keen to listen to other ideas. In terms of pricing, i'm looking for something near the quotation given by a Paxful moderator here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/39ug0q/how_much_will_it_cost_to_build_a_website_like/ For some background, this is the product in question:
This is an entire exchange written by myself only. Intellectual property rights will be transferred to prospective buyer along with a contract regarding conditions of transfer. The script can be opened on a local server and requests for demonstrations are welcome. A basic front end has been produced to allow the new owner freedom to produce a front end to their own taste and to reflect their own brand. Backend is 100% complete and ready for use. Information and aid on infrastructure and security will be given. There are running costs (infrastructure and security). Supports: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Bitcoin Gold, Peercoin, Dogecoin and a Testcoin (allowing users to try the platform for free with a play money coin). *Platform has been produced in a way which will allow easy implementation of more than 100 coins. For more detailed information on features you are welcome to reach out via my personal website (simongros.com), Reddit PM, mobile or Skype. Thank you for your time. How to safely source products for your business Posted: 30 Apr 2019 10:58 AM PDT I've worked as an international buyer and company GM over the last 5 years and have experience in both online sourcing methods and in person travel, being mentored through a company with a lot of importing experience. I see many people struggling with this side of business and am passionate about solving these issues, having started a new sourcing platform that fixes the issues I've encountered over the years (I'll link to it at the bottom). I'll give my take on how to source safely with current popular methods and give some insights most probably don't know about. If sourcing online, try 1688.com, they're more competitive than alibaba and most other sourcing platforms(Yes its owned by Alibaba but the platform is less saturated with buyers and suppliers are more willing to negotiate) I'm not sure how experienced you are but here's a few tips. Never show that you're a newbie. Try to be as professional as possible while being very friendly. If working with China/Asia, Chinese business is largely based on relationships. Be friendly, interact with your salesperson and get wechat. Also try to upsell yourself and your company. If you can pull it off, tell them you're first looking to place some smaller trial orders as you want to switch suppliers. Its a lot easier to negotiate once you have an existing relationship going with the supplier. Also get as much info as possible, photos, video, ask technical questions, etc. The more diligent and professional you are the less likely they'll think they can get away ripping you off. If you are paying through Alibaba, know that Alibaba only covers whatever is exclusively specified in your contract, unless you have VERY solid proof, and even then its a gamble. Alibaba is funded by their suppliers so they don't like to open disputes and chase suppliers down for money. (Alibaba has to pay you out of their own pocket first and then chase down the supplier to get paid back) if you win. Also, remember the $xxx inspection you have to do to use trade assurance. Once your order is delivered, if anything is wrong just to open a dispute means you have to get another inspection at your location which can cost $2,000+ and you only get reimbursed if you win. They purposely make it difficult to dispute orders as a deterrent, I strongly suggest trying to solve it outside of Alibaba if you're not sure you'll win. Also contracts are very difficult to enforce in China unless you have legal representation. China government tends to lean toward their people in most situations. If its a small order, just try to be as informed as possible, if its a larger one, maybe pay for an inspection from Beureu Veritas or any of the big guys that won't rip you off. Though you're looking at a $500+ cost. It is worth it though, as suppliers see it as a deterrent to cutting corners, and you also get an inspection (If your margins can afford it) If you're flying in, check out the Canton Fair trade show. Over 200k buyers and 60k suppliers concentrated in a location. Generally these are companies of quality who have $ to spend buying a booth and flying their employees out. China is also becoming more difficult to source for lower end products. Their younger generation is less willing to work in factories and their middle class is growing really fast. In fact their domestic market is largely competing with exporting, meaning they're less likely to give on price. If you're going to fly in, I suggest developing manufacturing countries like Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, etc. Lower quality generally from inexperience, but very willing to do business as they're off the beaten path upcoming companies. I'm the founder of Veribuy, an upcoming product sourcing platform that bridges online and in-person sourcing methods. We're creating a no-risk sourcing platform using newly available video livestreaming tech that allows you to tour factories and inspect products as if you were there yourself. I've been a buyer for over 5 years and decided I, among my peers in the industry, could benefit from todays technology to finally take the risk out of product sourcing. Please take a look at the website, we'd love any feedback at all! Also if you're interested, we're giving away $500CAD to one of the first 1000 individuals to take our survey. Thank you for reading!
