Agreed to front money for a trip that had to be cancelled, now friends are refusing to pay the non-refundable costs (New York)

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 02:19 AM PDT

Let me preface this by saying that I'm not sure if my grievance has any legal standing, but I have evidence of it in the form of texts and Facebook messages.

Last year, three friends and I attempted to plan a week-long vacation abroad to Iceland, where they had been before but I had not.

Two of them were fresh out of grad school and I was currently earning the biggest wage out of the four, so I agreed to book the flights and Airbnb house on the promise of reimbursement for their shares. This was to have taken place in the fall of 2018.

Prior to the trip taking place, one of them informed me that she had changed jobs in the interim and had not accrued enough leave time to make the trip. Another told me that his boss had demanded that he chair a meeting that coincided with the trip, and threatened his promotion if he took the leave time. The third would not agree to come if their boyfriend (the second one) wasn't coming.

So one by one they dropped out, after I had already spent some $2,800 in bookings. In spite of this, they assured me that they'd still recompense me the loss, since I was forced to cancel the whole thing, not wanting to travel solo to a place I had no experience in.

Airbnb fortunately refunded me most of the money, but the airline would only offer me non-transferrable credit with hefty rebooking fees and a strict time limit, which rendered the credit more or less useless. I wound up visiting the UK in February and plan to visit again this summer, but the airline that holds the credit doesn't offer a viable UK itinerary that I can use.

So it's been roughly seven months since the trip was due to take place, and I'm still owed roughly $1,200. The two who owe the bulk of it are increasingly avoiding me, in spite of their repeated promises to pay me back. I understand that their bosses were inflexible, if that's indeed what happened, but the deal was always that they would pay me back, trip or no trip.

I'm wondering if I have any legal avenues to pursue recompense if they continue to kick the can over this, and whether or not text and Facebook messages are admissible evidence in this situation.

[Austin, TX] Apartment maintenance workers walked in unannounced on my naked girlfriend, just moments after watching me leave for class, then take their time leaving. They've been watching her for months.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:56 AM PDT

The maintenance workers in our apartment complex have always lingered outside our door since we moved in back in September of last year. We've had a few tickets put in for minor repairs on some appliances, and the first two times they came, they always knocked because the deadbolt was locked, even though they tried to enter without any prior notification. She noticed, as I'm usually oblivious to things of that nature, that they've been spying on her, like walking by frequently to try to see through her blinds, among other things such as minor cat calls. Today, when I left for class, just about a minute after I closed the door, the maintenance people walked up and unlocked our door without knocking, then walked in on my naked girlfriend, who had just gotten out of the shower and thought I came home to get something I forgot.

She feels like maybe it's her fault because she had a ticket in for repairs, but I feel like this is predatory behavior, and that no maintenance worker should legally be able to enter someone's home unannounced, and that the main office should send and email with an estimate on the time frame in which the repairs would take place.

If any, what actions should we take? I plan on going to the main office to file a complaint, but I worry that it may be swept under the rug or they'll throw some sort of excuse that I'm not prepared for.

Found a surprise illegal septic tank on our property

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:03 AM PDT

This is my first ever post on Reddit so be kind. I'm very lost and overwhelmed in this situation hence my outreach to strangers on the internet.
My husband and I have been in our house for 9 years. One of the selling points when we bought it was that we were on city sewer but we were only charged county taxes. This was very important to me as I have dealt with septic tank issues in the past.
Recently we have had some plumbing issues but it all came to a head when we thought we had a busted sewer line. When the plumbers came out to dig and replace the sewer line, they revealed that not only were we not on city sewer but we had been operating on a septic tank that was long past its "expiration date" so to speak. I have so many questions. Is our house contract still legal since it falsely claims repeatedly that we're on sewer? How responsible are the people who sold us the house (they are both real estate agents)? Is this a municipality issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. Edit to include that we are located in the US

Nightclub gave away my coat. I live in Ireland and I paid to leave my coat in a nightclub's cloakroom last Thursday. When I tried to get it at the end of the night I was told that they must have given it to somebody else.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:54 AM PDT

There are written warnings that say anything left in the cloakroom is at your own risk, but if they have given it away are they obligated to at least reimburse me for the money I spent on the coat? And if I have paid for a service do they have the right to say that it is my fault that they do not have my coat?

Edit: Thanks for responses, I went down today and they looked through the whole cloakroom for it to no avail. They told me that if nobody had handed it in by next week that I could come down again and pick out a lost coat that hadn't been claimed by anyone else to keep. I would really rather my good old coat back but I do need a coat that I can use and dont have the money for another new one

My mom took all my money in the bank, the bank never disclosed that my mom owned the saving account

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:17 AM PDT

Yesterday I was going shop, so I took a peek at my checkings to see what the amount. All of the sudden you use my savings account at $0 and closed. I have 2,400 dollars disappeared out of thin air. I went to the bank and they said that she took the money and closed the account. I haven't talk to my mother since 2014. I cut her out of my life and lived with my dad ever since. All my bank statements never said her name and the bank never told me that she already made a saving account for me. When I made my bank account for a saving and checking account, they never disclosed that my mom made a account when I was a minor. She never placed a dime in there. Is there anything that I can do to get the money back. Right now, my dad told me to hold off anything legal, but right now my blood is boiling.

    Edit: Texas

Update: Just been told that my mom is willing to go to the bank and return it. The problem is I dont know how she going to it and I'm wondering what should i do if she actually does

California: Fired on Day 1 of New Job due to Massive Heart Attack-- Asking for a friend

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 06:08 AM PDT

A buddy of mine and I are in sales of IT products/services. Companies give us quotas of $2M-$8M / year and if we hit that, we get half of our compensation from commission. Our performance determines our income but also whether or not we get to keep the job.

So, a couple weeks ago, my friend accepted an offer from a smallish IT company to start selling for them in a particular territory in the NE/Mid Atlantic. He resided in Maryland and mostly worked from home. Again, the HQ of this company is in California.

Well, he suffered a massive heart attack on his first day of work. Will spare you the details but the company who just hired him, immediately fired him presumably for having the heart attack or so that they wouldn't have to pay for his health insurance to pay for the health care he needed (which exceeded $300K--another reason many of you should destress and go for a walk today perhaps).

So, my friend is in recovery and he isn't thinking about stuff like this. I told him I would look into it just to see if there was anything there from a legal standpoint. Does the company that hired/fired him have any liability here? I would presume that the company followed the law and has attorneys who advise them. Sure, at a minimum it would seem they made a move that should likely bring bad karma but what about the legal front?

I'm not emotionally tied to either outcome--whether he has cause of action or not. I just want my friend to continue to heal up and move on with his life. He was a smoker--if that matters to anyone. My plan was to call an employment attorney in California and Maryland and get a free consultation but figured this might be a useful topic to gain insights as well. Really appreciate any pointers or explanations of potentially applicable legal concepts. Thank-you!

Exposing immune compromised people to sick children, is this legal? Pa

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:48 AM PDT

So, my paps is doing alright with chemo and radiation (all things considered) but at this point his white blood cell count is very low. My sister has 3 sick children that she is trying to expose my father to as much as she can. We have explained to her that this is something that can be bad for him, but she is one of those personalities that they make memes about. In her words "those things (germs and vaccines) are a right wing conspiracy"

    Any advice on

    1. Getting some agency or whatever to prevent her from exposing my immune compromised father to kids who from what I've seen should be hospitalized right now.
    2. Make her accountable if she should do this and it ends poorly for my father.

[PA] my sister made a credit karma account without my knowledge

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 08:09 AM PDT

TL;DR: i found the account my sister made on creditkarma.com using my personal information.

Last night I went on the website to try and apply for a credit card to rebuild my credit. After I put in my information I was shown a screen that said I already have an account and the email used is my sisters. Its literally her name. So i immediately sent an email to credit karma explaining that the account creator was not me.

This morning I messaged my sister and asked her about it and she told me she created the account because "some of your stuff was put on my credit score." Our names and social security numbers are almost identical so that would be plausible if I ever had our numbers confused, but I havent. And in any case, she doesn't need to have access to my credit information to dispute anything on hers, right? And like I said she didnt ask and wasnt going to tell me about it.

She got defensive and started calling me names. I told her that she had no right to steal my identity or change anything on my account and that if she took anything out in my name, I'm taking her to court.

Do i have any recourse here?

TX - Just found out my (33M) girlfriend (30F) cheated on me with with her former psychiatrist PA. Do I have recourse to report him?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:34 AM PDT

Obviously I'm the scorned ex-boyfriend here but that's not why I'm posting. I already broke up with her so I'm trying to remove that hat and look at this dispassionately to achieve some actual results here. I've found mixed results online about the Texas code of ethics for mental health professionals but no definitive statutes.

Some backstory - my ex-girlfriend is a stripper with some mental health problems (depression, bipolar disorder) that she takes medication for. I met her on an app and we started dating before I knew what she did for a living, and over time it stopped bothering me. I trusted her.

About a year and a half before we met, she sought out help for her undiagnosed bipolar disorder / depression from a psychiatrist's office. This was her first time seeking help for these problems, and her psych PA turned out to be a younger (35) attractive dude who was very flirtatious with her. She told me she knew right away she had a huge crush on him. Their "mental health meetings" progressed from 15 minute appointments for medication refills into him scheduling her appointments at the end of the day so they could talk and "hang out" in his office for hours until everyone left. He took her out for coffee once and added her on Snapchat, but they never dated or did anything physical due to the inappropriate nature of their relationship. She stopped seeing him last May because she found her friend (also a stripper) was also seeing him for medication and he had asked her out for coffee. My girlfriend got jealous and hadn't talked to him since.

I obviously didn't like this dude at all because he had no boundaries with his young, attractive female patients suffering from mental health problems. This behavior seemed VERY predatory and HIGHLY inappropriate for someone in his position. She agreed that what he did was unethical, but she was also very obviously obsessed with him from the time they spent in therapy, and I could tell in her mind this man could do no wrong.

Fast forward to this past Monday. I'll skip over the details but she was acting unusually sketchy Monday night and I got suspicious and checked her phone. Her Pysch PA had hit her up on snapchat (she hadn't heard from him since May 2018) a few days prior with some very flirtatious texting. He showed up at her work when she wasn't there and wanted her to dance for him / get private dances from her etc etc etc. They agreed to meet up Monday night at a bar and they fucked.

I'm here to ask the opinions of those who aren't motivated by revenge - was it unethical for him to behave this way while she was his patient, and for him to sleep with her less than 1 year from their last appointment? In one of his texts, he said after a year he was allowed to contact her as she would no longer technically be his former patient. I'm assuming he jumped the gun by a month because he wanted to get laid, but isn't this behavior highly unethical for someone in his role? I have plenty of screenshots as proof that they hooked up and discussing the fact that it would be unethical to do so before the 1 year was up. He also knew she had a boyfriend.

She told me he has been very nervous and scrambling to protect his ass since I found out right after it happened. He asked her to 'delete everything'. I have screenshots of their conversation before/after hooking up, and I recorded her talking about their relationship together during counseling and stating that they had slept together. If I have the evidence to report him, do I go to the board that holds his license, or his direct supervisor?

TL;DR: my stripper girlfriend cheated on me with her former Pysch PA who apparently loves strippers. Their last counseling session was in May 2018 (less than 1 year ago) and I feel like I should report his unethical behavior as a mental health professional.

Motorcycle Dealership is stating I have to buy the bike after trying to back out, or they’ll sue.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 12:59 PM PDT

So I went to a local motorcycle dealership in Hutchinson Minnesota to see a bike I was interested in. After talking about the bike and price for a while they were unable to work with me on any sort of negotiation. I put a $200 deposit down to hold the bike until I made a decision. They had me sign a bill of sale to state the $200 deposit. As I was shopping around I found a much better deal a few days later and decided to go with that. To be polite I called the dealership I had originally worked with to explain I had found a better deal and I'm sorry but I wouldn't be working with them. Immediately the gentleman blew up over the phone. Telling me I HAD to purchase the bike or he would sue. Subsequently insulting where I live, my income, and lifestyle. I read the bill of sale to him over the phone it only states all or part of the deposit may be retained as liquidated damages nothing more about the entirety of the motorcycle. He won't give me any of original documents in which I've signed and says he will have a lawyer contact me. Explaining no matter what this bike is mine. He told me he's done this 14 times before and won each time in court. I can't afford this bike under their circumstances nor a lawyer. What do I do?

[NJ] I was assualted by a team mate, the school helped him win the court case, and now the school is covering it up.

    Posted: 11 Apr 2019 04:19 PM PDT

Edit: Wow Thanks everyone for the responses, I rushed over to the library where I'm typing this right now and I didn't know this would get this many pluses.

The general gist here is to get a lawyer and have a free consultation done.

I mentioned this in a comment below that was deleted but, Charles here has messages between me and my gf from when Charles and my gf were together. These messages were "flirty" at best but when presented to the prosecutor does constitute as sexual harassment. This is because he took her phone and pretended to be her. He then said stuff like "oh stop messaging me i have a bf" or "stop or ill go to the police". Then when she got her phone back we would continue to talk. There is no way to prove that Charles was the one messaging me therefore as these messages came from my gf's phone, they are deemed as an "indictable offense". This was brought up at the hearing and ultimately after the video was deleted we agreed to drop the cases against each other.

Also, some concerns that I have when consulting the law school (thank you u/brookepride) is that there are some pretty concerning rumors about the dean. He has covered up other athletes actions in the past and the people who have spoken up have either transferred or dropped out. I would like to go after the dean for destroying the tapes but, at what cost? I would need that lawyer but would I be risking my college career both academically and athletically?

Throw away because I think he uses Reddit.

So the last few months were pretty rough but lets get this through.

I am a junior (22M) in a local college here in New Jersey. I am on the school soccer team (walk on so nothing big here), the team has a player (lets call him Charles) who is a total asshole. I mean anything you say he will put you down for. He is majoring in something super difficult and constantly makes fun of the other players and their easier majors. Charles dated this girl sophomore year then after meeting me broke up with Charles to be with me. Although she never said it, it is pretty obvious that Charles was physically and emotionally abusive. She constantly asks if it is okay to go places or to hangout with friends and presents her phone to me every week for me to "inspect it for anything that I wouldn't like". It took a long time for me to change her into a normal human being and that she can be herself.

This abuse from Charles continued for a few weeks into the semester but, I am a pretty vocal guy so whenever Charles makes a rude comment to me I always retort back. Unfortunately one incident tipped him off the edge. I was in the locker room and a team mate told me that Charles was talking smack about me. I preceded to make a comment about him and his ex. I wont really go into it because the comment requires some back knowledge. Lets just say that Charles did not like this. After texting me privately saying how this was an attack on him and I had no right to poke fun at his relationships. He then pressured my other team mates into telling him where I was at that time and went to go get me. He then found me outside the cafeteria and grabbed me from behind and began choking me. After screaming from other people around some people managed to pull him off me. The cops were called and I was escorted into the police station.

I gave a statement and a case number. The officer said it was right in front of a camera so it would be a pretty easy court case. I then filed a complaint and waited for the court date. In the mean time I was certain he would be kicked off the team. After weeks of an "investigation" by the school it was deemed that we were both in the wrong and rather than putting files on both of our records we just resolve this with a no contact order. The school board was never notified as the dean of students decided that this was a case that is just for him and his assistant. One of the most sickening quotes that I distinctly remember is him saying "would we dismiss a student from a team or from this school for cheating?" Like excuse me but cheating is not on the same magnitude as an assault on another student. He was ultimately "punished" with a 2 week suspension and optional anger management.

I really felt like that was off but I didn't do anything because I would just get him in court. Upon the hearing I was notified that the subpoena to acquire the video from the school failed as the video was deleted. The students that I called to make a statement also suddenly pulled out. The prosecutor told me that at best I could get anger management time from Charles but since its just a hear say case there is nothing that can happen. Is this the end of the road for me? Is there any action that I can take against Charles or the school or am I just supposed to forget that this happened?

Police took my phone to extract evidence after I was robbed. They said ill have my phone back the next day, its been 3 months and they wont return it

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 07:51 AM PDT

    Brisbane, QLD, Australia

On 22nd January I was set up and robbed by multiple people I've known for roughly 10 years. They stole a gold chain off me I was selling for $3000 and attempted to get a bracelet out of my hand I was selling for $2000 but they didn't manage to snatch that. We met up outside public shops with CCTV.

I immediately went to the police station to report the robbery and explained the whole thing. The officer took photos of my phone of all the conversation with one of the people involved. At the end the officer said she needed to keep my phone for the night to extract everything and said my dad will be called the next morning for me to pickup my phone. I asked if I'm allowed to keep my Sim card and she said she's not sure but didn't bother to ask anyone and kept it.

The next day my dad didn't get a call so we went to the police station to find out she was on sick leave for 5 days and she is the only one legally allowed to give me my phone. She was not the officer who was investigating my case, only taking the report and phone.

I found out my case was sent to a department at another police station so we went there for next couple days to find out about what's happening. Multiple officers said they can see my phone had been extracted and I will get it back as soon as the officer is back at work.

The investigator rang me a couple days later and said he had been to the thieves' house and spoken to them and they told him they robbed me because I had arranged to sell them gold previously and that I ripped them off which isn't true. He also said one of them showed him a text that I told him I've sorted it out with his brother (other thief) and I told him that's also not true I've never texted either in my life. He said he has more investigating to do and will get back to me. That was almost 3 months ago and never heard from him since.

Since then he has been on my phone manually logging onto all of my accounts as well as logging into my girlfriend's accounts though I've never mentioned her name to any officer. I've gone to the police station many times trying to find out where my phone is and they tell me there is no officer who can help me yet I can clearly see they've logged into my accounts and used my mobile data.

For the first month I couldn't make any bank transactions, log into a few accounts as I needed my phone number for confirmation. Nobody cared and was always told bad luck we can't help you.

I've since remotely factory reset my phone when my phone was turned off. After a couple weeks my phone disappeared from find my device meaning they had turned it on and it reset itself but they still fail to contact me to give my phone back.

What are my options. What can I go to the police and say about my phone. Nobody will tell me anything and I can never get a hold of the right person and they're not allowed to tell me when they're at work.

    Thank you Redditors

    [MI] Bank auctioned my house.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:28 AM PDT

    Posting this for my neighbor.

Neighbor's mom passed away. He's been paying the mortgage for 5 years. The bank wouldn't accept the son's payments anymore because there was no legal change of possession? There is multiple sons, but he took the house over and made the payments. The mom didn't have a will, and the bank sent the property auction. He's trying to fight for the property. What discourse does he have?

Edit: OK, have a few more details.

Neighbor is going to the courthouse to see if anyone bid on it. This is the first I'm hearing about any of this. Just trying to help. Neighbor says he's been trying to deal with the bank, but they're not co-operative?

[SC] Former mortgage company ran unauthorized credit check for a refi we never agreed too

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 08:10 AM PDT

We are in South Carolina. We bought a home back in May/June. The mortgage loan is 100% in my husband's name. That company sold our mortgage to another company. They called me last week to ask about refinancing. I said not at this time. He kept pushing to send me a "non-binding", free quote of the numbers breakdown. That I agreed to. There was no mention of a credit check.

A few days later I get 3 emails, all saying "Congratulations on your refinance". I called the sales guy back and said we never agreed for refinance - just the free quote. He claimed this was how their free quotes were produced. At that time, I asked to stop as I don't feel comfortable with any of this.

The next day, my husband gets a notification that a hard inquiry was ran on his credit. They never spoke to him at all, just me, and I never agreed to that. Then I get an email of "Application withdrawn".

What steps do I take from here? I plan to report them to CFPB. Will that remove the hard inquiry from his credit? Do I need a lawyer?

I think I saw child porn on omegle, I recorded it, reported it to the police and they seized my laptop

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:47 AM PDT

This happened a couple of hours ago. I was surfing omegle to chat with people because I was bored, then I saw someone who I think was engaging in child porn, I don't want to go into details about what I saw, other than I started screen recording as soon as it was clear it was dodgy and kept them on the chat to try and get information about where they were and names etc. after they hung up on me I reported it to the police. They came to my house, went over what happened and then asked if they could take my computer with the recording on it. I let them, but now I'm having major separation anxiety from handing over my computer and thinking of all the embarrassing (not illegal though) stuff I have on it.

My computer is full of comprising (again not illegal) stuff about me, including naked selfies I've taken of myself in the past to send to lovers.

I directed the police to the omegle screen recording on my desktop (named very clearly 'omeglescreencapture_todaysdate.mov'), but all my other files are on this computer, my entire digital life - I have no idea what they are going to look at, I am having deep regrets about handing over my computer right now, please, reassure me I've done the right thing - or if I haven't - some advice on how to protect myself moving forward. Thanks for any advice you can give.

is it illegal to sell someone else's copywritten material for seashells, sell the seashells to someone else for sugar, and then sell the sugar to USD? (I know it sounds crazy but I'm not trolling)

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:42 AM PDT

I know this sounds absurd and I'm sorry, but someone is actually selling copies of my book that they typed out on MS word (or google sheets) on a boardwalk in Florida for 50 seashells, then apparently he sells the seashells to this weird store that is a grocery store and sells other touristy beach crap in exchange for sugar. THEN this fucker sells the sugar door to door.

I can assure you I'm just as confused as you. I got an email from someone who read my book a few days ago saying he came across this man, talked to him and this is the process he explained to him that he uses to "avoid copy write laws"

I'm not looking to press charges or even ask the guy to stop, I am just wondering if this beach bum has actually found a loophole in copy write law.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:04 AM PDT

EDIT: Thanks for the advice so far everyone, It is now very apparent that I need a lawyer. Without breaking the subreddit rules, what is the best way to find one for me. Should I search online or look locally? Anything specific that I should look for? This is all uncharted territory for me. Again, thanks in advance.

Yesterday the place where I worked pulled me aside and presented the case they have been building against me over the last month. I had been stealing several items over several months not only through my backpack but also by changing labels on items as well. I admitted that it was true and they asked for a dollar amount. I told them probably around $200. It honestly could be more I'm not really sure. I had to put this in my own words and write a statement down.

Long story short, they terminated me on the spot and said they called the police. The police didn't show initially, but turned up at my house later. They said I was technically arrested, but not taken in. I was charged with two accounts of misdemeanors in Arizona:

    1. Controls property of another with the intent to deprive the other person of such property; Less Than $1000
    2. Obtains services or property of another by means of any material misrepresentation with intent to deprive the other person of such property or services; Less Than $1000

I have a court date in two weeks and I'm at a complete loss for what to do. My family is very supportive, but I'll be honest none of us have ever had to deal with something like this so I don't think they are the best source of advice. I have no previous criminal record, though I am 25 and should know better. I'm not trying to justify any of my wrongdoings, but I believe I was just stressed at work and acted out in one of the worst ways possible. One thing led to another and pretty soon I was a full-blown Kleptomaniac. I'm certain I will never do commit these crimes again, but one of the officers recommended that I seek out some mental help and I honestly agree. I'm owning up to my actions and I just want to put this all behind me, but I need some serious advice in the meantime.

What will the court process be like? Do I need a lawyer? What kind of repercussions can I honestly expect? I know it's up to the judge, but I feel like I need to plan for the absolute worst case scenario. Thanks in advance everyone, I really need this.

[PA] Is it illegal to order counterfeit money with no intention of spending?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 05:05 AM PDT

I am an avid youtuber and want to make a video showing counterfeit money ordered from the dark web vs real money. Is it illegal to order the money, compare it, then throw it away? Or is this something that's far too risky and I shouldn't risk it.

[Kansas] Landlord is threatening eviction for window air conditioner unit.

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 09:44 AM PDT

Hello, title says most, but here are the details. He sent one email to the co-leaser and she told us about it, to which we wrote him back and asked for clarification yesterday. He wrote today with a very rude email and gave a 14/30 notice. He claims that is is unclean and damaging the property. It doesn't state explicitly in the lease we can't do this, so can he evict over this? What are the dangers here?

I have pictures of both emails, the 14/30 notice, and our original contract if anyone wants to see. I also referenced the Kansas Landlord Tenant Act.

Edit: I was also told to post landlord cited this in the lease: TENANT AGREES: 15a. to abide by all rules and regulations promulgated by the landlord. 15e. To keep the windows in a neat manner. 15h. No installations or alterations to UNIT shall be made without LANDLORD consent. 15l. Only small nails shall be used to attach items to interior walls.

Edit 2/Huge Update: Big update on this, I wrote this in the first person, but it is actually happening to my partner. After I posted a negative review stating that the management was hard to deal with. Not even 30 minutes ago, the landlord came in and confronted me that I was not supposed to be on the property (which he was right) and served me a trespassing paper and said that if I wasn't off the premises in 10 minutes he would make it "official" with the police escorting me off. He also said that he is going to sue me for business defamemation and called me a snot nosed little brat and proceeded to mock the way I talked. He said that if my partner and I can find a way to right this, maybe he can "reach an agreement with us". I think he wants the negative review removed, but I don't think he can do that? Can he sue me for an opinion?

[MI] Money order stolen out of apartment complex drop-box. Am I responsible?

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:10 AM PDT

This happened in July of 2018. Our apartment complex provides a drop box in case you need to drop off rent when they are out of the office. I don usualky utilize it, but on this occasion, I did.

A week after paying rent we received a demand for possession of the missing rent. I took the letter straight to the office in a panic, and that's when I was informed by the staff that many people had their rent stolen from the drop box over the weekend. Because I paid with a Western Union money order, getting my money back was a bit trickier than those who wrote checks (although they had their account numbers stolen!!). I searched high and low for my money order receipt, but of course, it was no where to be found.

My apartment complex failed to file a police report despite the robbery. For western union to look into a stolen money order, they required a police report of the incident. I filed a police report myself, obtained a Kroger receipt showing where I had purchased the money order, and sent this information to WU (along with the $30 fee they charge just to look into it). WU replied stating that they didn't have enough information to help me.

I took my returned letter from WU to my property manager and she stated that she sees that I have exhausted all of my options and that she would do her best to look into it herself, and once she did that she would propose to her managers that we receive a credit for the missing money. I also have in writing from a different property manager (turn over is ridiculous) that we would be refunded both money orders (the missing and the $30 I had to pay WU) and would not be assessed any late fees for the missing money order in the month of July, and also would not be evicted.

We are now moving out of this complex. I want to figure out this situation before I leave. Today I spoke to (YET ANOTHER) property manager, and she stated that we must stop payment on the money order and re-pay our rent for July. This is my first time hearing this response and I explained to her that in my file they have copies of the previous manager stating that we would not be responsible. Her argument is that there is no proof that my money order ever made it to the drop box.

Why is there a drop box if we need proof that we made it to there? Is it my fault that they do not have security cameras watching? My proof that it was in there is the fact that many other people had their rent payment stolen and that I have never paid my rent late or not in full for the entire two years that I have lived here.

Please give me any advice you have on what I should do moving forward.

    Thank you

Can I file a police report on someone (child milestone) without giving out my name? HELP

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 10:03 AM PDT

When I was about 5 my cousin (who's about 15 years older than me) use to touch me in a sexual way.

When I was in 6th grade. He became a pastor and was into God and church a lot. I thought he might of changed and it was a misunderstanding. But he would still send me nasty text messages.

Fast forward to now, I'm 21 years old and he's still a pastor. He is always messaging me asking me to hang out and that he "loves me". I told his ex wife and she told me two other girls are wanting to come forward as well. I'm so scared to go to the cops. Can I file a report without using my name? Could I get a lawyer to represent me? I'm just not ready to let my family down. But I know he's doing this to other little girls and boys. He works with kids everyday. What should I do ? My mom doesn't want anyone to know because she's embarrassed :(

Edit: I live in Texas idk if that helps

    Posted: 12 Apr 2019 02:09 PM PDT

A new hardware store was built by my house about 350-400 feet away and I can hear perfectly clear their PA system inside my house with no doors or windows open and my TV on. Im not expecting silence from them but it is excessively loud. Are there any laws that say how loud a system can be? Thanks
