    The Holy Scripture

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 08:47 PM PST

Last week, I walked into my internship with a return with 35 review notes on it. Yesterday, I logged on and saw another return with one note: "Change this amount on the worksheet. Other than that good job."

    Read Receipt Requested

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 09:12 AM PST

Is it just me, or are read receipt requests on email some of the most micro-managing bullshit that exists? I've got a director that loves them and are on every internal email she sends. Out of spite, even if I have read the email, I click "No". I'm a true rebel.

    Absolutely hate accounting

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 07:12 PM PST

I'm a recent grad with my first job in industry and I'm absolutely miserable. The long hours and having to figure everything out myself is making me second guess my career choice. I hated accounting my last couple of years of school but figured once I started working it would be more enjoyable than my courses. At this point I don't know what else to pursue so I guess I'm stuck while I figure that out. Is there any way I can find out what companies would offer me a strict 9-5 so at least I don't have to spend more than 8 hours a day being miserable?

Hey all - I've recently passed my last exam and I'm starting with EY in the fall. How do i go about claiming my bonus and test reimbursement for test fees? Will they try to stiff me with the bonus since i passed before starting full time? Can I get reiumbursed for test fees before starting? Any input is welcomed.

Worried about my career path in accounting.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 03:07 PM PST

    Hello,

So I am enrolled in college (as a junior) that has one of the countries stronger accounting program and best in my state. I had some good and some bad semesters and one really bad semester. I currently have a 2.7 GPA and everyone here makes it seem 3.0-3.5 is the gold standard and I just feel really dumb. A lot of students in my class cheat and admit it so it makes me think that I am very far behind in terms of grades as well since I dont do that because I dont want to risk getting kicked out and I've been told its better to have integrity and get a grade you deserve. I have only worked two summers (an insurance firm and car dealership) as I dont have a car and cant drive anywhere while I live at school. School is only 20 mins away but I live here because no car and it is easier for me. I plan on getting an internship over the summer this year with an accounting firm but am very nervous about being able to get an internship over the summer and eventually a position at an accounting firm in the future. Is this something I should worry about?

Could I do fine in Accounting as a career if my only interest is the private sector?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 10:33 PM PST

    Hello,

I am currently in college, halfway through to a bachelor's degree in accounting and business administration. Accounting was always something that interested me as a career, and I've done well in college so far, but the more I learn about Accounting the less interest I have in the public sector. Short deadlines are no issue for me, but long, unpredictable work hours coupled with such a competitive environment is daunting.

I realize that by exploring only private accounting, I limit opportunities for promotions, specialization within accounting, and general salary—but is that okay? I've already committed so much time and money towards an accounting degree, but I'm just not sure if public accounting is a good fit for me. To be fair, I haven't ruled out public accounting, but assuming I were to rule it out: should I start looking at other degrees if I don't want to explore public accounting, or would I do alright sticking with private sector employment?

I really appreciate any input all of you on r/accounting can offer!

If you dont care about work-life balance whats the best job?

    Posted: 05 Mar 2019 07:58 PM PST

Im saying anyone is super human and could grind 24hours a day, but if someone where to make cash the one and only priority, what would be the correct choice?

I dont mean one specific job, more like should you work for one of the big 4s, industry, government? Auddit/tax/etc..

Im just starting to study accounting and Im not from the US, so if replies could take it easy on the acronyms that would be great
