So all the Farmer's Insurance commercials with the wild claims stories are based on actual claims that were paid out.

Tips for beginning to move away from Adjusting?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 03:43 AM PST

Hi reddit, I was curious if any of you had any tips or personal experience with starting to try and move away from claims adjusting, and how you made a successful transition to another job or field.

I'm currently working for a TPA handling Corporate General Liability, and Property Damage claims for a Fortune 500 company, and the stress and negativity of my daily work has all but burnt me out.

What career path can I take to begin making my way out? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

    Drove car after accident

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 02:40 AM PST

Last week I rear ended someone in my brand new leased car. It was lower speed, no air bags deployed, but not just a fender bender. No fluids were obviously leaking. It was dark and the roads were wet though.

We were in a dangerous spot, so the police asked us to move. It was freezing, so I had left my car running the entire time. It seemed fine. We drove a mile away to a gas station.

This was two miles from my house. Police told me car was safe to drive and advised me to drive home. In the morning I decided to drive it to the shop. Only a couple miles from my house.

Two days later the guy calls with my estimate. Mentions that I punched a hole in the trans cooler. He says it doesn't look like there is any issue. It likely didn't leak. I am really concerned about this though.

How much of an issue is this? Did I screw up? If I have an issue with the transmission, engine or anything power train before the warranty/lease is up, what do I do?

I realized that maybe it should have gone to the dealership and not a shop after the fact. All the replacement parts are OEM from a dealership. The shop is a preferred shop for my insurance company. They seem honest. I called my finance company and they said the shop was fine.

If it matters, the damage is about 7k. Mostly in labor and the headlights.

I would ask this in a car reddit, but I think I will be more likely to be trolled, and you guys have probably run into this scenario before.

TL;DR Drove brand new leased car about 10 miles after front end hit. No warning lights or obvious issues. Am I liable for any issues going forward?

    Temporary health insurance?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 09:18 PM PST

We fucked up signing up our baby for health insurance, now bcbs says we have to wait until open enrollment which means she's not going to be covered until April.

Is there any way to get something temporary?

Also is it even possible for them to squeeze her in if we fight bcbs or my husband's company (major tech company) about it? Or is it a lost cause?

My car was totaled while parked in front of my house. Who will pay for my aftermarket parts?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:28 AM PST

So 3 weeks ago, my Scion FR-S was hit when it was parked in front of my house. The damage was so bad the back of my car was crunched in and my dad's truck was parked in front of it, smashing the front of my car as well. My aftermarket headlights and tail lights got destroyed as well as the cat back exhaust. I was fully covered under my insurance. I showed them online receipts from the website I bought all the lights from, which was about a year and a half ago, but they told me my aftermarket parts are only a "preference" and there will be no money back for that. When this first happened, I had the decision of going through the other driver's insurance, which he admitted fault to, or mine. His insurance has "limits" to how much can be paid out. So in a rush, I made the decision of going through my insurance as I needed them to quickly set up a rental car, which is a service I added to my insurance a few months prior. So now, after discovering the write off amount, I want to know any way I can get some kind of reimbursement for those parts. I was paying off the car and I owed about $600 to it more than it was worth. I have GAP to completely pay off the FR-S.

I guess lesson learned to not mod a car you still owe.

What can I do? Lawsuit? Negotiate with insurance?

    Auto insurance

    Posted: 04 Feb 2019 12:03 AM PST

So, I'm doing an auto insurance quote and one question on the application (?) is asking me years licensed. Since I got my first license November of 2015 when I was 18 do I click the "3 or more years" option? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, this will be my first auto policy without my mom on it, so I need to make sure this policy/quote is accurate so I can get the lowest cost possible.

If I purchased my whole car insurance policy outright can it be raised?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 11:41 PM PST

I recently jumped from my parents car insurance to my own and bought 6 months policy paying for the whole thing up front for the discount. I always see things mentioning rates may go up after an accident/ticket/whatever. If I were to have one of these things happen when would this premium hike happen? When I renew the policy start the end of the 6 months? Totally hypothetical.

Am I at fault for accident? Spun... was stopped for a few seconds .then was hit by pickup truck coming from behind me

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 08:15 AM PST

Fairly simple scenario.. I got onto highway on Friday. It was snow covered/icy. I got onto highway. Started to lose control .. spun partway ...got stopped before I hit anything..

I was sitting stopped for a few seconds thinking I was thankful and all I had to go was get car straightened out .. when a truck came up and hit me in the side.

I know I spun out but I was stopped for a few seconds and stopped before being hit

Over 65 with Medicare — Do they need Medical Payments coverage in their auto insurance?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:39 PM PST

Parents are over 65 with Medicare as their primary health insurance and Blue Shield as their secondary (via my dad's GM pension) in California. They're currently with Geico and I'm wondering if they really need the medical payments coverage and if so, how much?

Someone cause a minor fender bender to someone else's car, and then that car gets totaled the next day. Does the 1st person still have to pay?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 04:40 PM PST

    This question is hypothetical.

Person A's car is given a minor fender bender by person B's car but person A's car is hit and destroyed by person C the next day. Assuming all parties have insurance, if person C is completely at fault, is person B's insurance still on the hook for the fender bender even though person C did much more damage to the bumper?

I presume there are insurance policies have something in place to prevent the victim from getting to double dip on this

AZ/ The tire of the other driver hit and totaled my car and the drivers insurance is refusing to fix me car.

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 12:49 PM PST

(Tucson, AZ) On 01/29, a tire came off another drivers car and hit my car. My car is not derivable its totaled . The others person insurance is refusing to take the fault for it because a few days prior the tire was put on by a company. Their insurance is telling me i have to do a claim against the company whom put the tire on, and to use MY insurance to get my car fixed. I'm refusing to go through my insurance this is NOT my fault. i NEED my car fixed ASAP. I'm scared if i fix my car with such a high deductible and wait for any reimbursement i wont get it since that insurance is refusing to take the blame and what if that company is refusing as well. This is so not fair please help.

Odd question, I drive twice a month, is there any way to avoid paying for full insurance

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 07:25 AM PST

I live in a national park and during the on season I only ever need to drive maybe twice a month to get groceries. I dont want to sell my car as I will need it if I were to move on.

I hate the idea of paying a ton for insurance and rarely using my car. Is there any sort of plan you can turn on and off with ease or anything like this? Sorry for the vague nature of my question. Any help greatly appreciated.

I (21 M) live in mississippi and my parents told me im no longer connected to their insurance. How does my state or federal insurance work?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:52 AM PST

I'm not sure if I should post this here I'm very confused. A bit of background, I make around 12,000 a year. I am not a full time student. I pay rent and utilities at my own apartment with 2 roommates but otherwise have no bills. Recently I badly sprained my ankle and i may have a fracture. I want to seek medical attention but I know nothing about how insurance works and my research online has just lead to more confusion. Any help would be appreciated. Edit: I know I need insurance before getting injured. I have a payment plan set up for my ankle so far, I need insurance in case anything happens in the future.

I have a $0 payout claim from 4 months ago. Time to renew and agent telling me this is why my rates increased. Is this normal?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 11:41 AM PST

About 4 months ago I wasn't paying attention and hit a wall. Adjuster said it was about $1700 in damage with a $1000 deductible. I decided to just withdraw the claim and eat the cost to try and not cause a premium increase. Now it is time to renew and my rate is increasing due to this issue. Looking back, I see the mistake and wish I did not even start the claim.

I am wondering if this is normal and if there is anything I could do to help with the rates. I am thinking maybe if I go to another company it won't affect the rates since there was no payout? Confused on how to proceed. Any tips? thanks!

My auto insurance quotes differ greatly. Any insight why?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:55 AM PST

    Hello,

I drive a small subcompact car. 2018 model.

I've been with progressive since I bought it, 6 months ago because they were the cheapest. Renewal time is coming and I'm shopping around.

My premium from progressive stays about the same $890 but my premium quotes from other companies also stay the same, pretty much.

    Mercury gives me about $940

    Geico gives me about $1300

    AAA gives me about $1400

Ameriprise gives me about Costco $1400

    STateFarm gives me about $1800

I understand there are many factors go into a quote but I was expecting the quotes to be in the same range +/- $200. I wasn't expecting StateFarm to quote me $1800 ($300 amount)

Out of curiosity, any reason why? I haven't had any tickets in the past 3 years (not even a parking ticket), one accident a month ago (not at fault). The accident shouldn't have any impact since the quotes were pretty much the same as they are now even before the accident happened. Also, I was not a fault. I don't think it matters?

so what could could possibly be the reason why?

UK drivers insurance as American Expat

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 10:02 AM PST

Hi - I have had my USA driver license for 10 years without incident and just passed my UK drivers test to obtain a full UK driver license.

Drivers insurance in the UK is very high since I am seen as a new driver even though I have had no incident in the USA for 10 years.

Is there a way to have UK insurance take this into account to lower the monthly payment? I plan on emailing a few providers but wondering if anyone has has some advice/experience?

My wife and I are considering to get our license to sell insurance in California. Any suggestions, warnings, etc? How's the market out there? Is there a certain type of license we should go for that would ultimately be a better option? Thanks in advance.

My insurance doesnt cover ER visit?

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 07:38 AM PST

On January 5th, I went to the ER after someone slipped a roofie in my drink at a bar and I couldn't stand or hold water down for 3 days after.

I just received the bill and it's just shy of $1000. My insurance clearly started that I will pay a $200 copay, and 10% coinsurance. They also sent me two separate bills. Neither bill has any detail on what exactly I'm being charged for.

Does this seem correct? It doesn't seem correct to me. If this is what I should expect to pay, then why would I bother with insurance? Last year I paid $500 for an office visit with an hemetologist, it was originally $1400.

Do All Speeding Tickets Effect Insurance Rates? [Georgia]

    Posted: 03 Feb 2019 08:28 AM PST

I got a ticket for 15 over and I intend to bargain with the prosecutor for a lighter citation. I'm 18 and my insurance is pretty high already, so I'll do my best not to have it go up anymore. My question is whether reducing the speed from 15 over to something like 5 over would make a difference in insurance rates? Also, I know this isn't the sub for this, but any advice for talking with the prosecutor would be helpful as well.
