Is it possible to get life insurance with a bipolar diagnosis? Insurance

Is it possible to get life insurance with a bipolar diagnosis?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:20 PM PST

I just got my first denial, AAA sent me some information about their term life insurance. I figured what the hell, I'm already a AAA member so it wasn't completely out of the blue.

I just got denied because of information in my Milliman Intelliscript Report. I just submitted a request for my report.

Edit: I've never been hospitalized, and I take two antidepressants and a mood stabilizer. I've been stable for years, diagnosed 10 years ago.

Am I going to keep getting denied? I'm sorry if this has been asked before. The Reddit search feature is refusing to work tonight.

25/Birmingham/UK - My first car incident..

    Posted: 01 Feb 2019 12:46 AM PST

I got into my first car accident on Christmas Day, I've been driving since 2015 and the only other incident I've been involved in was paid by the other party as I got rear ended.

To give some context, I was with a friend on our way to pickup another friend to then go and watch the new Spiderman. If anyone knows anything about Birmingham, it is hell on earth for car drivers.

Anyway.. It's been more than a month and I haven't heard back from both my insurance or his and I am fully comp. I did put in my claim that night but I haven't claimed the damages on my car, that is something I've repaired myself.

My question is, should I have received a response by now? Even some sort of acknowledgment? I assume I would pay my excess atleast.

    Thanks

Car was side swiped - should I report?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:54 PM PST

The whole side of my car was side swiped by an old lady. She admitted fault. She does not want to go through insurance as she has pending lawsuits. I have her name/contact/registration/insurance info. She really wants me to avoid it. I've gotten estimates and it looks like it will be 3-4K to do the repair. It could be less depending on the place.

I'm not sure if she can pay out of pocket. Should I file through her insurance? It also looks like we both have GEICO. If I file a claim through her policy... will they find out I'm with GEICO and add that accident to my record?? I have a clean record.

    Thanks! Would love any advice.

Bought pet insurance from major carrier, bought optional extra rider to cover spay/neuter, now they are denying me, saying their website coverage list is out of date

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:34 AM PST

Edit: Turns out the reason I don't have a copy of my policy is because they mixed my contact info up with another customer, and then read off that customer's details to me as they were verifying mine. WA state insurance commissioner believes because I don't have my policy in hand, I should be able to rely on what information is on their website. I filled a complaint with them.

I bought pet insurance through <big company>. Their website says in 3 places they do not cover spay and neuter unless we purchase an optional health package. We bought that package, their website still says spay is only covered with this package, and now they are denying it. They claim the coverage on their website is "unfortunately" out of date.

It was a very large dog, the spay cost was over $450.

Progressive says they'll deny my claim if they cant speak to their at-fault (by police report) insured member

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:05 AM PST

Is this even legal? The representative I spoke with told me if she can't speak with the insured member who rear ended me over a week ago and still hasn't answered his insurance company's calls, then my claim will be denied.

They won't give me a straight answer on the status of obtaining the police report either. What should I do? The lady tried to get me to pay my $500 deductible for my OWN insurance to handle damages caused by the other driver, who was again, found at fault by police report, taken on-scene.

Meanwhile I'm suck at home outside any sort of rideshare zone and my car is illegal to drive with the damages (no brake lights or turn signals).

    Any advice is greatly appreciated

Homeowners insurance agent significantly underestimating replacement cost of house

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:43 PM PST

I live in seattle and just did a significant re-model. While considering our options, we looked at building a house, and contractors and architects told me consistenlty, new construction costs $250-$300/sq ft. I also got several quotes for a new garage, and they were all ~$150/sq ft. My homeowners insurance agent is using $150/sq foot of replacement cost, and is only including finished space. It looks like $150 is the washington state average. I'm not sure what to do here, if we actually lost our house, the amount covered would only be ~2/3rds of a re-build. The agent has run a few estimators, and they all use the $150/sq ft.

What can I do here? is my agent an idiot, or are agents unable to make local market adjustments given the state of finding a contractor in Seattle.

    Shit water rider coverage

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:30 PM PST

So I just got a denial from State Farm this morning, due to the fact that I didn't get a "Shit water rider" coverage on my policy which cost an additional $550 a year. What the fuck is "shit water rider?" Is my agent gyping me? She says only fresh water leak due to pipe breaking in the wall or attic are covered not soiled water from the toilet. What the fuck is I suppose to do with all this shit water I'm sloshing through since last night? I have two toddlers slipping and sliding in corn kernels and broccoli shit water...

How do property claims in auto accidents really work?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 04:13 PM PST

For some context, I was a passenger in my friend's car when a driver swerved into us head on, totalled both cars, and damaged my electric skateboard in the trunk. The other driver was determined at fault.

I've been working with the insurance company to pay for a replacement board since mine is dangerously broken, and they said something that sounded kind of off. The agent stated that their branch is a smaller one and has limited money to pay for the totalled car and personal damage on the claim. So say my friend's car cost $16,000 and my board was $2,000, the claims guy claimed they may not have enough money to pay both the auto and personal property claim. The auto claim is being paid to my friend's insurance company who has already sent my friend the money for her car.

In the event that they can't, my board is worth approximately 11% of the claim, and they may only be able to provide me with 11% of the maximum they can pay out for this accident regardless of my property value. So say they can only pay out $16,000, he stated I'd only get $1760 (11% of the $16,000). Is this common practice for paying out property damage? My main concern is I can't purchase a replacement board with this payout and would have to dip into my own money when the other driver is the reason my board was totalled in the first place.

    TLDR

My $2000 skateboard was destroyed in a trunk of a car in an accident and the other driver was at fault

Insurance claims they may not have enough money to payout both the car in my board so they'd divide the max payout based on some percentage math.

This would make it so I may not get the full value of the board. Is this common?

    Travel Insurance (Singapore)

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:30 AM PST

Guys i have a dumb question with regards to travel insurance policies.

It is with regards to the wording present in the policy for emergency medical evacuation, "To be eligible for this benefit, You must call Our Emergency Assistance at +65-6322-2072 and We will make the final decision on the most appropriate medical facility and transport method based on Your location and Our assessment of the severity of Your medical condition or circumstances." .

I bought this plan from FWD but have seen similar wording in policies that I have bought from other companies. So my question about this is what should I do in the event of an emergency? It seems really stupid not to call the emergency services and let them decide what to do with me than to call the insurance company instead.

    Thanks

Freaking out: Traded my car in for a newer car. Hit another car before notifying insurance of my trade in. Accident was ONE DAY past grace period.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:13 PM PST

I'm freaking out. A lot. I know I made a mistake: I completely forgot to notify my insurance of trading in my car for a newer car. Life happened, kids had the flu, I had to go to the cardiologist with my dad to get bad heart news... all excuses, I know it doesn't matter, but I wasn't purposefully not informing them. I messed up.

Without going into TOO much detail: I side swiped a car parked on the side of the interstate while lost and looking at my GPS.

    • Both of our vehicles have damage to the sides of our vehicles from just scrapes on the door to minimal but actual body damage on his car. My side mirror is damaged while his is GONE.

    • His car is one of the "expensive" kinds of car. The kind that everything repair wise costs 3-10x the amount it would if it were a Ford/Honda/etc. What might be 2-3k or damage on my car might be 5-15k of damage on his.

    • Neither one of us had injuries and he was very open about the fact that he was not hurt and wouldn't claim to be hurt because it was a pretty minimal wreck.

    • My insurance allows 20 days for notification of your car purchase/trade-in. The accident took place 21 days after purchase.

No one will give me any kind of HINT if literally one cent of this accident will be covered. I'm more worried about the fact that I might have bankrupt our family because of the cost of repair on his car. My car? I will ride with freaking duct tape on my side mirror holding it together. I don't care.

Can anyone give me advice? Or any kind of inclination of if, because I was still insured with them with my vehicle I traded in, literally ANYTHING will be covered?

    I understand I messed up.

California - Parents fucked up house, will insurance cover anything?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 12:06 PM PST

Long story short - parents fucked up their house due to poor upkeep. Water pipes started leaking about a year ago. Three (3) different plumbers were hired to "fix" them, with the most recent "fix" this month. I think they are licensed but it seems that they were paid under the table so I'm not too sure. Due to the slowness of fixing the leak, there is (black in color) mold in multiple places in our walls downstairs. These are all the insurance details I have:

    HO-3

    -Deductibles-

    All other perils: $2,500

    -Coverages-

    Dwelling - $495,000

    Other Structures: $99,000

    Personal Property: $240,000

    Loss of Use: $248,500

    Personal Liability: $90,000 Each Occurrence

    Medical Payments: $1,000 Each Person

    -Additional Coverages-

    Credit Card Forgery: $1,000

Limited Fungi, Other Microbes or Rot: $5,000 per policy period

Worker's Comp Residence Employees: $100,000 Each Accident, $500,000 Bodily Injury by Disease

I believe my parents contacted insurance about the leaks when they first started, but decided to pay out of pocket because the plumber they hired cost less than the $2,500 deductible. Do we have any chance of getting insurance to help us or do we have to fix the mold out of pocket? In addition to mold in our walls downstairs due to leaks, our bathrooms upstairs are in horrible condition (mold as well). Would our policy cover bathroom restoration/redoing?

CA DMV financial responsibility options before filing for SR1

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:53 AM PST

I have been in an accident on US-101 in Silicone Valley area and my car was totaled worth $7000. Not at fault and my insurance was terminated before the accident and I didn't know that until the accident happened. 3 parties were involved. Party 1 "hit and run" was the cause of the accident as CHP report said and the license plate was identified by a witness. CHP run the plate number and responded to the owner address who relates that her daughter was the driver. I know if I filed for SR1 or Party 2 filed it my driving licence will get suspended. If I deposit $35k to CA DMV now after the car accident and filed for SR1 doing this will save me from the suspension? $35k is all I got and I can deposit it if this will work knowing it can't be touched since I'm not at fault also my sole income is driving with Uber so I will really appreciate for a resolution. Plus can I sue the owner of party 1 in a small claims court for my property damage or the No-Pay, No-Play law will turn down my claim?

Geico requesting outstanding payment for policy I was not notified about.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:53 AM PST

I had an auto policy with Geico and just canceled it in preparation for leaving for Basic Military Training in under a month. I was notified a few days ago that I had a payment due. I checked the website and to my surprise, my payment was 600% more than it was the previous month. I admit, it wasn't a stellar year driving wise (2 accidents) but that's besides the point. I had received zero notice, mailed, emailed, or phone calls, about this massive change in policy that changed my policy number as well.

I transferred my vehicle to a family member who is keeping it for me while I'm away and canceled my policy. Now Geico is saying that I owe them 441.00 for a policy I never authorized or wanted. Can I do anything here? Thanks

Thoughts on "loyalty discounts" and Personal Injury Protection (PIP) - In Washington State

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:38 AM PST

    Good morning!!

I am getting our autos, home and boat requoted with a few companies right now, and I had a conversation this morning with a gentleman at one of the companies, and I wanted to check with with some other professionals on some statements he made.

"Loyalty discounts" - I asked about what discounts over time they offered to loyal customers (provided of course there were no claims/accidents/tickets etc), as it seems this is something a lot of companies are doing now, and it's part of why beating our auto premium is hard, we have been with our current company for 10+ years and have this type of discount on there. Well, his response was that they don't have this type of discount structure because it is not a discount at all, it is simply a way for companies to appear to providing discounts with time when reality all that is happening is the normal policy premium decrease that would happen over time anyway. His take was that companies are taking advantage of policy decreases which would occur anyway, and labeling them as discounts they are providing for a customer's loyalty. What are some other professional's thoughts on this?

PIP - I had asked him to quote apples to apples with my current company, which included PIP. His quote in response did not include PIP, so I asked him why. He said that it is not a coverage which provides much value for the premium. My understanding of PIP is that it can be a in-between coverage in the case of a collision, bridging the gap to health insurance coverage. It will cover any medically-related expenses in relation to a covered collision, some of which would not be covered by insurance. Meaning, things like massage therapy and chiropractic care, which may be limited in health insurance, are not limited in PIP claims (except to the limit of the coverage of course). I also thought PIP was in effect immediately after a collision, so you can immediately go to a chiropractor and have it covered by PIP, whereas waiting for coverage by health insurance can take long.

Maybe I am confused about what PIP is offering? Is it really an unnecessary coverage if one has good health insurance (which we do).

Thank you if you took the time to read that! I appreciate any and all advice on this.

    Geico trainee job question

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:52 AM PST

I applied for a claims adjuster trainee and have passed the initial tests and have a phone interview scheduled. Assuming everything goes well they stated in the initial email to start the end of February. Unfortunately I am getting married and have a military training obligation for the reserves and wouldn't be able to start the training for claims until June. Are they generally flexible or will I just have to start the process over closer to that date? I am excited about the position And have no problems with the training just would miss too many days and I don't want to waste too much of their time. Thanks

    Whole Life Policy: Surrender Question

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:37 AM PST

Hello! I'm looking to surrender a whole life policy, which I've had for < 1 year (about 8 months). The plan was sold by a third party brought in to my work and is paid for through a payroll deduction. I do understand that since it is so early, I will likely be forfeiting everything that I've paid in.

I'm trying to get ahold of the documentation for the plan, but the work official who we are supposed to contact is trying to tell me that I can only change it with a Qualifying Life Event, or have to wait for open enrollment.. is this correct? I thought that this was only for health insurance.

    Thank you!

Possibly silly question - Do I HAVE to have Health Insurance to have Dental Insurance?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 07:25 AM PST

Or can I JUST have dental insurance? I tried looking on the internet but it brings up irrelevant results. I can't afford the insurance offered by my employer (it meets the minimum ACA requirement but it's $850+ a month, so unaffordable).

I signed up for Delta Dental, individual clear plan, since I need to get my wisdom teeth out. The asked for my dental & medical insurance & seems surprised when I said I only had dental.

    Thank you!

    HOA as Additional Insured

    Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:49 AM PST

First Reddit post here. I couldn't seem to get a definitive answer looking in the depths of the internet on this question. I recently bought a townhouse (I own interior/exterior) in an HOA community. They have in the by-laws of the HOA as the "HOA must be listed as additional insured." My current insurance company will not do this. They even gave me a hard time about additional interest, but eventually agreed.

My auto insurance bundled with them is kinda high, and I was looking at other companies to switch to anyway. So I called Progressive which gave me a great rate for both, but when I asked about additional insured for my HOA, they basically said, "Oh that's a mistake. They must mean additional interest which we can do."

I realize this is not the same as additional insured, and I have no doubt the HOA by-laws were carefully written. It seems this is a very difficult thing to do so why do communities require this? Does anyone have any specific recommendations on companies that are willing to do this?
