Posted: 31 Jan 2019 06:47 PM PST New investor here. Sorry if this is obvious, but what's to stop me from buying dividend stocks on the day they pay dividends or the day before or whatever, and selling the day after in order to do it again with a different company? [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Feb 2019 04:17 AM PST I'm looking to invest a small amount, a drop in the bucket. What I want is to learn by doing how to invest larger amounts. What is the best way to start. I want medium time returns, nothing major but a solid nest egg. I want to set the money up to reinvest itself unless I need it, I was thinking a mutual fund. Any advice or resources appreciated! Thanks :-) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:57 PM PST I've been investing for about ½ year and it has become one of my main interests since. Now i would like to combine it with another interest of mine, softwaredevelopment. I would like to create a website where you can look up different stocks and get recommendations based on TA. Simple, i know...been done before, i know. Before i begin development, i would like to ask you guys the following:
I like investing. I like programming. I like Math. This project sounds exciting to me, but i want to use it to learn as well. Based on my TA-recommendations i would like to gather data about how well they perform and from that, maybe improve the recommendations and my own investments. If you think i forgot anything or you simply have something to add, please do not hesitate to comment :) Thanks for your time!! [link] [comments] |

Intrinsic Valuation (DCF) and Margin of Safety Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:25 PM PST I have been using a DCF approach to estimate intrinsic value using various growth rate so that I can better manage my risks. The method I have been using is a simple DCF using FCF (as taught here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHnEU6ZZ0QE). Using a rate of return of 10% and a margin of safety between 25% and 50%, I find literally no entry point to any of the stocks I am reviewing. In fact, in 90% of them, I don't see how the stock would ever get to the levels I am calculating even with a recession. So being at loss, I wonder:

S&P 500 Posts Its Best January in 30 Years (Bloomberg) Posted: 31 Jan 2019 09:00 PM PST The S&P 500 Index just capped its best January in 30 years. U.S. stocks rallied on Thursday on the back of stronger-than-expected corporate earnings and a dovish Federal Reserve to post a 7.9 percent advance for the month. That was better than the 7.1 percent gain in 1989, when George H. W. Bush came into office and transit fares in New York City rose to $1.15 from $1.00. [link] [comments] |
ALk down after positive earnings report Posted: 31 Jan 2019 11:11 PM PST Hey I'm just curious if anyone has any idea why Alaska Air Group $ALK price has dropped sense their earnings announcement. They beat on earnings and revenue. The only thing I can think of is that earnings and revenue were lower then the previous quarter and that the shutdown was effecting airlines heavily. But I'd figure all those factors would have been priced in. Any thoughts? [link] [comments] |

Offered preferred seed investment round at my company, still a contractor, what do I do? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 10:21 PM PST I work for a start up which is doing a small preferred seed investment round. I don't yet know the terms, etc. I believe in the company and want to put a chunk of money in while they are in this early stage. I'm still a contractor, hopefully will be hired soon, and would likely receive common stock if that happens. What do I need to know / ask before investing? Or should I just wait to receive stock as an employee? Or take stock in lieu of some payments owed? Thanks for your help! [link] [comments] |
How do investors get reimbursed for volatility in a stock? Posted: 31 Jan 2019 05:08 PM PST If FB is more volatile than GM, investors theoretically require a higher return on FB to compensate them for that. How do they actually receive that extra return? Where does it come from? [link] [comments] |
