Husband died in a motel and the management is unhelpful and apparently facing a very large biohazard odor clean-up bill

    Throw away account -

I wrote out a long and heart-felt explanation and my laptop made it disappear, so I'm just rewriting the questions.

Don't motels carry insurance for biohazard clean-up? Am I liable? Can I ask my homeowner's insurer if this is covered?

Why does the motel staff keep asking me about cause of death? (I don't know yet.) Does it affect liability? It's been almost two weeks and as far as I know, the room is still sealed and the motel hasn't had the biohazard clean-up team back(?) in yet, so I can't gather his things or his car keys to move it out of their lot. Seriously, what is going on?

Edited to reduce strident frustration tone.

    Question: On-demand insurance policies

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 04:26 AM PST

    Hi r/insurance

I have a question that I'm having trouble finding an answer to and I'm hoping that one of you can either help or steer me in the right direction. An answer for any country or legal jurisdiction would be relevant.

I'm trying to understand the regulatory hurdles for underwriting and/or selling on-demand/episodic insurance policies. Additionally, if the companies currently providing these types of policies needed to work with legal authorities on developing new policy surrounding these types of insurance products.

    Any info is helpful, thanks!

Does work comp choose the doctors in their network?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2019 04:17 AM PST

In California, does WC choose the doctors in their medical provider network? Or are the doctors chosen by something else?

It makes sense that WC wants the most conservative doctors possible who don't run diagnostics and sends everyone back to work with a pulse.

Obviously those are the doctors WC is going to pick. If that's the case, isn't that extremely unfair to the injured worker?

    Homecare employee driving client's vehicle

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 07:43 PM PST

An employee of a home health care agency works 12 hours/day with a client who must be transported in their own wheelchair accessible van. The employee is told that they will transport the client to appointments, trips to the store, movies, etc. What can the employee do so that they are not personally liable in an accident? What is the worst case scenario? Thanks!

Would like to sell life insurance... looking for advice on companies to consider.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:46 AM PST

Hi guys - I am a licensed health/life agent, but I currently only sell health insurance. I fairly often get requests about life insurance, but I am not appointed with any life insurance companies. I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for companies that I should consider working with? I'd prefer to use multiple if possible too, are life insurance brokers a thing?

Any help or guidance is appreciated! I'm just starting to research options now so forgive my ignorance if I've missed something obvious.

22 and unsure of how things work

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 10:42 PM PST

Hello /r/Insurance. I am a 22 year old male who lives in Wisconsin and I am pretty new to insurance. I have applied for my own health insurance and I've had it for a year now through a program called Security Health. I recently went to Healthcare.gov to update some information as I got a new job and had to change some information on their website. There was a question about possibly getting state help and I wanted to see if I applied, and I got some letters in the mail about how I am now enrolled in BadgerCare Plus and how my HMO is Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield. However I think some of the information I gave them was wrong, and am worried about getting in trouble or having to pay a fine. I live with my mother and my little brother, but I think I only mentioned that I live by myself in the information I sent them.

I am pretty nervous and I just have a few questions:

    1. Will I be able to cancel my BadgerCare Plus and my HMO? I still have my own health insurance that I pay a premium for from last year, so I won't be out of insurance.
    2. Will this affect my ability to get or renew insurance in the future?

Sorry for the format and any misunderstandings. I really don't understand it all myself and am just trying to get my bearings on what I have to do if I did give them false information

Questions regrading rate increase. Please help.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 07:18 PM PST

Posting this for my dad. He just got new insurance and they stated he has a wreck on it. He cleared it up gets it removed. Around 1 month ago they increased his rate around 50 dollars based off his witness/wreck report. He was in a company vehicle at a complete stop, at a stop sign turning left. He had to wait for cross traffic before turning. That's when some one came.through and T-boned that truck with no lights on, that car slide into my dad work truck. No damages really. Dad files witness reports and forgets it. They are now saying it's on his record and they won't lower his rate. He even showed them the police report. Refusing to remove the rate increase on a wreck you didn't cause. Anything I can do ? Is this even legal?

Unpaid claim reimbursement for covered care

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 06:39 PM PST

I have health insurance through my spouse's employer and experiencing serious issues with unpaid claim reimbursements for infertility treatment. We initially asked for HR's assistance to request a one time In Network Exception for my doctor and treatment (IVF) a month prior to treatment but didn't receive a response in time. We moved forward with treatment and were instructed to submit the claim anyways as there is 70% coverage out-of-Network for infertility services.

Date of service was mid-August and it is January with $0 paid towards the original claim. The claim has been resubmitted to Cigna more than 4 times, and either lost in the system or stalled in a claims queue because an image couldn't be uploaded etc etc. HR has been useless and when I filed a complaint with State of CA Dept. of Health Insurance i received a response stating they could no help as our plan is a "self-pay" plan.

Is there anything else I can do to escalate this issue with the health insurance provider?

Best legitimate work from home insurance companies

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 06:45 AM PST

Hello, former car salesman transitioning to insurance sales. I want to know is there any legitimate work from home insurance agent jobs that aren't a pyramid scheme. Which insurance companies are the best to work for remotely? Any advice is greatly appreciated. The reason I want to do this is because I love sales and the challenges it presents but I'm tired of dealing with all these fuck head co workers at the car dealership.

    Total Loss Question

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 01:04 PM PST

I was recently involved in a bad car accident in a no fault state (New York) and after both adjusters evaluated my car they deemed the other driver was 85% liable for the accident so they are paying 85% of the fair market value of my car. After a lot of research I found out my 2SS Camaro with the miles on the car was worth $8000-12000. They contacted me and told me after taxes they valued it at $9000 but with a $3000 salvage deduction, I would only be getting $6000... Everywhere I looked online states that a salvage deduction is when I want to keep my car and that is the amount they believe they would get from an auction so they deduct it from the fair market value of my car. I explained to their insurance that I did not want the car and she said the Total Loss Dept stated, that amount will be taken out whether I keep the car or not. Am I getting misinformation from them because this does not make any sense to me. Thank you.

Chances of coverage and Tips(auto insurance)

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 04:37 PM PST

I have business vehicles on a corporate auto insurance policy. One of these vehicles(the one I drive), a ~3 year old $80,000 pickup has suddenly began to show serious signs of fading and other issues after a recent business trip. The headlights instantly went from clear as can be to glazed over, hazy and dim. The chrome mirrors no longer shine. The mirrors themself are blurry and impossible to see out of. The windshield appears pitted/blurry and impossible to see out of at certain times of the day(sunrise, sunset, dark with bright lights shining at me). The grill guard on the pickup was shiny black, just like new and turned dull and chalky by the time the trip was over. The black paint is cloudy/eggshelled and pitted looking.

The only two causes I can imagine are: There was road construction part of the way and I got dusted by some grey-green looking powder from one of the pieces of equipment, but I stopped and washed it off almost instantly(in the next town) because it worried me. It also rained almost the entire 11 hour trip. I suppose I could've found some acid rain along the way? I didn't realize acid rain was that harsh until I started googling the symptoms my pickup was showing.

I hate to have that nice of a vehicle looking in terrible shape, but more so than that it is completely unsafe to drive in low-light conditions given the situation with the lights, mirrors, and windshield. Now that I am back I will be using my personal vehicle until this one is fixed.

My questions are: 1. Would you expect my comprehensive insurance to cover this or will it be a 100% out of pocket expense to fix? 2. Any tips for dealing with the insurance company on this situation would be greatly appreciated.

I have started the claim process but it's going to take a few days before they can take a look at it and give me their opinion. My insurance has always done great cover hail damage and damage by hitting a deer, I just didn't know how/if this situation would differ from those situations and was hoping to get some tips to help this go as smooth as possible.

My insurance is way too expensive in FL

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 03:25 PM PST

I moved from IL to FL this year and my car insurance went from being $18 to $67 a month. Nothing about my status has changed except for the state I live in. I also now only drive 1/2 a mile to work and back, so I total less than 100 miles a month. How should I go about asking GEICO for a lower rate?

Will I be liable for damage/citations that are incurred due to delaying repairs on my vehicle? [AZ]

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 01:33 PM PST

Long story short: An old lady pulled out of a neighborhood to cross 3 lanes of traffic and got T-boned by an SUV ahead of me. I was slowing down to stop and help/witness and the lady who was T-boned then backed away from the scene and then pulled in front of me (not seeing me because her side airbags were deployed and she had no vision) before I came to a stop, resulting in me hitting her. It's apparent that she was at fault, my car was the only drivable one, and the other 2 drivers were taken away in ambulances.

    Because of the holidays, I haven't been able to talk to my insurance's agent handling the claim, but they did have the chance to talk to my dad (policy holder). What I was told was that I have two options;

    1. Pay a deductible of $1,000 in order to have my car fixed right away and then be reimbursed the deductible once the insurance companies settle everything.

    2. Wait until the companies settle everything, and then be given a check to cover the repairs.

Other than damage to the front bumper, grill, and fenders, my radiator fan is no longer working, I have a headlight out, my horn doesn't work, my engine is now making a knocking sound, and my car is leaking either coolant or radiator fluid. I haven't been able to take it to a shop for any quotes yet, but I also don't have the finances to drop $1,000 and wait for it to come back. If opt to wait for the settlement and (worse case scenario) I get a ticket or fine for having a headlight out or my engine overheats and seizes up, will I be held liable for neglecting the necessary repairs? Will I be on the hook for letting my car's damage develop to a state where it is no longer drivable? Or is this something that is taken into consideration with an accident claim and will be the responsibility of the insurance company of the at-fault driver?

Would it be likely that I would be given a rental until I can have it repaired?

    TigerRisk Capital Reinsurance?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 12:35 PM PST

Currently a junior at a University studying Financial Economics and Mathematics. Recently applied for an internship and awaiting an interview at TigerRisk Capital. I was doing some research and talking to other professionals in the field and one man laughed and said they "were a slimy company."

Anyone know anything about this company? Not particularly worried about the companies ethics (sorry) just don't want to get roped into a shitty internship that doesn't really provide me with any experience. The job pays well, and nothing in my first interview or the job description set off any red flags.

Is it too soon for me to switch car insurance?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 11:30 AM PST

I have been looking at quotes for comparable coverage's for insurance from different companies. I currently have Progressive (Have had for 1 year, first I had basic liability but then financed a new car so full coverage currently) and my rate is 274$ a month. After checking multiple companies Geico is the best offer at 153$ a month for comparable coverage.

However, I was reading online that switching insurance withing 2 years can hurt my rate. Should I wait another year to switch? I dont want to as this is a substantial savings.

    Need advice settlement payout offer

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 08:18 AM PST

My property insurance claim has been completed by the insurance company. But they surprised me, they've offered me 100% of reimbursement with receipts or 75% without receipts.

I've already expressed i wanted to do it without receipts because they are incredible slow in processing and likely to run out of time.

I feel that they're cheating me because they admitted the value of lost property and are now offering me substantially less. They have instigated a limited time window to accept an offer.

What steps can I take to convince them to pay the full amount or closer to it?

Does umbrella or any other type of insurance protect my assets if the liability is more than the claimed amount?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2019 03:41 AM PST

Let us say my assets are worth $10000, and I have an umbrella insurance policy for the same amount. If someone sues me for $20000, do I pay with both my insurance claim and by selling my assets? If the sued amount is more than $20000, do I become bankrupt then?
