Dental insurance for low income 18 year old Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:06 PM PST So my girlfriend and I have just come across a conundrum of sorts; the caps on her teeth have fallen off. A little backstory; her parents are both currently in jail and her grandparents can't afford to add her to their insurance plan. We have been trying to find some way to get her dental insurance in order to get her the proper, permanent caps she needs for her teeth, as the ones she had were meant to be temporary. We're at loss here and I'm looking for any advice or help I can get. She works full time but the medical insurance her job offers would cost about ninety percent of her paycheck. Any advice at all is appreciated, if it helps we live in the state of Virginia. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:32 PM PST I was in a not at fault accident. The other driver probably doesn't have rental coverage, but I've spent about $12 per day on Uber to and from work. I once had an insurance company give me $30/day while my car is in the shop. Can I ask to be paid back for this? [link] [comments] |
At fault's insurance is not paying medical bills, can I go after mine? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:34 PM PST Involved in an accident, the at fault' insurance has accepted liability. My car has been fixed. I sustained some injuries and have been going to physical therapy and doctors for 5 weeks now. However the at fault's insurance is saying my car didnt have enough damage to justify my injuries.(rear bumper smashed in) I didn't have any pre existing conditions and I have been diagnosed by doctors a few times and they all agreed I sustained back injuries (whiplash) from the accident. Can I go after my insurance (i have full coverage) for medical payments? More importantly can they do this? Just cover property damage and not the injury? Esp since they have accepted liability and admitted their client was 100%at fault? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:49 PM PST This is probably a really stupid question, but I've been googling like a madman with no luck. I struck an animal with my car. Over $1000 worth of damage so I called the police and got a police report like the state requires. All of the damage was cosmetic except a small crack in the coolant reservoir that I can take care of on my own. I'm just gonna buy parts and fix the car myself instead of bothering with insurance because I have high deductibles. Do I need to call my insurance company? (Progressive). I assume they'll get info from the police report or something, and that they probably don't care since I'm not asking them for money. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Insurance Shock...is this normal? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:38 PM PST Ultimately, I am going to ask; Is this normal? Insurance last year was (very simplified): This year all plans eliminate the office co-pay until the deductible is met, so this year: This seems like a radical change from one year to the next. This is insurance offered by a HUGE, very successful company. I won't, but if I told the company name you would know it, and be surprised. Is this normal? Is this what people pay for medical care? Your kids get sick, and you lay down $600? Also, how can they attract talent to their company? Do they say in the interview, "By the way, our medical coverage sucks, and you are going to be paying a fortune for anything you have done." Who would want to go work there? I am used to the idea that insurance goes up 10% or 20% a year, but even then, it still offers some basic coverages. This seems like insurance went up 10%, and they stripped any kind of real coverage out of the plan…almost like it became a catastrophic medical plan rather than what I think of as normal medical insurance. Illegal to pocket leftover homeowner's insurance money? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 10:31 PM PST So a hurricane hit my house, I lost some shingles and the insurance company gave me a total of $8,700. If I find someone licensed that does it for, say, $6,000, is it illegal to pocket the rest? Or is the person telling me that just trying to get more money out of me simply because they know the insurance is covering it? Can anyone help me navigate the legality of doing insurance work? I asked them (insurance company) if they had to authorize repairs or whatever and it sounded to me like they really don't care what I do. [link] [comments] |
Third party wants to take my trailer with no agreement Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:51 AM PST Hello, I'm posting seeking some advice on an incident I posted about at the beginning of December. Long story short, a kid came flying around the corner at my parents house where my trailer(uninsured) is stored. He was found 100% at fault, my home and auto has denied coverage and his insurance co has taken responsibility under his liability. They sent out an appraiser a few weeks ago, shortly after it was deemed a total loss. Now I have been in contact with a total loss adjuster and they want to take the trailer to their salvage facility to further appraise it? My concern is, we have not discussed or agreed on an amount for the trailer? I'm afraid they will try to strong arm me into some low ball settlement, then it will be a terrible process trying to get the trailer back. There has been no mention yet of me signing over the ownership or anything. Might I add, this has been very hard dealing with this insurance company, no call backs or answers for weeks on end. I am located in Ontario, Canada. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:30 PM PST Hello! I've spoken with an insurance agent and he said that the insurance would pay us, but that in his words "he did not have much money for this accident." I'm not sure what he means by this and if this is going to affect our compensation. Isn't it dependent on the estimate of the damage? We haven't received any compensation yet, but is there anything I can do preemptively to make sure we get the compensation we deserve? Our car was parked in the street and was hit in the early morning, so we were not at fault at all. I had posted previously on r/legal advice and here is some background info if it's needed: After many calls, I was finally able to get all the insurance info and speak with the adjuster on the case and he said the above, which has me a little worried. I was hoping for any advice or any clarification. Thanks beforehand! [link] [comments] |
Use Paypal Credit to get PAY IN FULL discount with Progressive Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:18 PM PST I wanted to share something I've been doing for years to get the paid in full discount with progressive without any money out of pocket. This for me saves me $250 per 6 month policy that's $500 per year! Progressive lets you use paypal to pay for premium. Use this to take advantage of the 0% for 6 months for purchases over $99. Then make your monthly payments to Paypal and pay it off in 6 months. I assume if you do not have or want a paypal credit line you can add a credit card to your paypal account and use a promotional offer and do the same thing. Another cool thing about paypal is they do not report balances to your credit report so it wont affect your debt to credit ratio. Also, do the snapshot program this got me 30% on both of my car polices and you can transfer that discount forever to new cars. [link] [comments] |
Purchased a retired transit bus, need to drive it from CT to NY Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:12 PM PST Hi, So I bought a retired transit bus recently and I need to drive it from CT to NY, but apparently I need insurance in order to register it, but the problem is every major company I've done a free quote on either rejects me or tells me to call my agent. Can't I simply transfer the insurance from my broken van to my bus or is that not how it works? [link] [comments] |
Dentist charged me more “in case I need a root canal down the road” Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:10 PM PST First time poster, long time lurker...will also try to cross post this to r/dentistry. I went to a new dentist for a cleaning and checkup and was told I had a cavity. The dentist had some time open in his schedule so I decided to do the filling then to get it over with. Upon drilling the tooth he found that the cavity was larger than it looked on the x-rays and suggested doing a pulp cap (at a higher cost) to prevent the tooth from possibly needing a root canal further down the line. I didn't really understand the procedure, but as my mouth was numb and I had a massive hole in my tooth, I agreed to it. I went to pay the bill and they reiterated that the charge was larger due to the pulp cap. Even though I was still a bit confused, I paid. (Dental prices always seem to surprise me.) Checking my EOB later, I don't see the pulp cap listed at all and the amount owed was about $150 lower than I paid. I reached out to my dentists office and they sent me the message below. "The amount owed on that EOB will differ a bit from the amount we collected during checkout, because we collected in full for your pulp cap. The fee for that procedure was $—-. We collect in full for pulp caps, instead of asking insurance to pay for them, because there is a chance that the same tooth may need a root canal in the future. If we were to bill your insurance for the pulp cap, it would count towards your endodontic frequency, and your plan would then deny coverage for a root canal on that tooth (if you were to need one- and fingers crossed, you won't!). Because a root canal is a far more costly procedure, we feel that it is best to play it safe, and ensure that our patients are not stuck with a huge bill down the road." My insurance is good with pretty extensive coverage from year to year and cheingn the cost calculator, doesn't seem charge much for pulp caps. Is this normal? It seems a bit strange to me to hold off charging it in case I need a root canal later. I like this dentist, but just want to make sure that this isn't a red flag. Please let me know if this is normal/standard procedure. Thanks in advance for your help! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:58 PM PST I do not have auto insurance and want to rent from Hertz via their AAA membership program (which waives the underage fee). I will be 20, and want to rent a car a couple of weekends to travel. What sort of insurance do I need to get from them? Do I need insurance? I will be using a credit card (chase freedom) for any payments. Does the AAA membership provide any benefit? Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Car insurance premium after accident Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:12 PM PST Hello reddit, I am stuck with a really high car insurance premium after having two minor at fault accidents on my record. Both claims totaled about less than $2k from my insurance provider, but now I am stuck with years of high rate. I have never had any accidents, I was kind of unfortunate last year-both accidents happened in heavy traffic where the other car suddenly stopped and I rear-ended their car. Any recomndation on how to possibly get out of this situation or take it off my record? I am even willing to pay back the insurance company that 2k (not sure that is even possible). Thanks in advance, [link] [comments] |
Hoping for any guidance on a car insurance issue Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:59 PM PST Quick back story: We were locked out of the car. We have roadside assistance through our insurance provider, and they were called out to unlock the car. The guy they sent out used the airbag to crack the door and open the lock. He was having difficulty and tried on both front doors. After some time he was able to get the car unlocked. However, either because of the extended amount of time he needed or because he used the airbag improperly, our door is now bent enough that you can feel air coming in as you drive. We live in the USA. Question: Is this something that we can go to our insurance provider and claim so we can get it fixed or is there anything else we can or should do? [link] [comments] |
Other drivers insurance hasn’t called me back Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:19 PM PST So I get a letter in the mail from the other driver that's at fault saying they were trying to contact me and they needed me to call. So I called my insurance and they said I should call them. I called them and gave them a statement and they said they'd Call me back Monday. Well Monday passed and haven't received a call. So should I call them or just wait till they call? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 03:38 PM PST So I just bought a car from someone. It is a 2000 VW Jetta. And I'm a 19 year old male. And was wondering what would be a decent price for insurance. I look at liberty mutual and it says $217.75 a month is the good or bad? I've had my license since September of 2017 [link] [comments] |
18 years old, out of high school in May, and need my own car insurance... Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:33 PM PST Hi everybody, I'm going to be getting my own car soon, and my parents have told me that they would not like to pay for insurance on any car that I purchase. I'm not really for driving my car without insurance considering it's a felony, so I decided this would be the best place to ask: is there an insurance company that would be best for me in terms of being a broke community college student? I don't want some insurance company that's going to fuck me over if something happens, but I don't want to pay a whole lot. Any suggestions? [link] [comments] |
New job. Insurance does not become available until 2 months. Should I do COBRA or ACA? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 02:20 PM PST I started a new job that provides healthcare plans partially compensated by the company. However, it does not become available until 2 months in. Obviously, I want to be covered in the meantime. My previous employer paid 80% of premiums. So I chose a the high premium, low out of pocket plan. My previous employer plan will likely cost $600ish a month with COBRA. I am thinking of maybe doing a low cost ACA plan. I have emergency fund cash that would cover the higher deductible if something terrible happened in that time frame. Is it worth the hassle of trying to save some monthly money by skipping COBRA? Would enrolling in ACA somehow make me ineligible for the employee plan in a few months? Other thoughts I am missing? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:52 PM PST I have a car that I drive very occasionally (once or twice a month). I figured it's not worth it to pay the full premium for collision. I called up Geico but they are not willing to lower the price based on mileage. So I've been thinking, I'll cancel the collision. And everytime before I drive the car, I add it back, then cancel immediately after. Has anybody done this? Is it worth it? [link] [comments] |
Question about Life Insurance claim [PA] Posted: 29 Jan 2019 12:26 PM PST A few weeks ago, I got a letter in the mail from Prudential stating they are holding funds for me from when my father passed in 2015, and will turn it over to the state (Pennsylvania) soon if I don't respond. I vaguely remember getting these letters not long after he passed, but it was a blur in between that and other emotional things going on at that time. I called the number on the letter, and confirmed that this was true, with the company, confirmed with my mother if he would have a policy there (they were divorced at his passing if that makes a difference), got a copy of his death certificate, and mailed everything back last week. I called today to see if Prudential had received the documents I sent, and they had not, and seem confused that I would be calling. I tried to give them my case number, and though they could see in their system I am entitled to some money (that they don't know if they still have or the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have), that they would send me more paper work. I'm confused now. Did I do something wrong? I know I made a mistake in the past with not attending to this quickly/forgetting about it, but I'd like to know they have my information. I know once Prudential has my paperwork it'll be awhile until I am cut a check (which I'm fine with) but I'd like to know the best way to see were my case is. Is there another way short of calling often I could check on this? I am Pennsylvania, and my father passed in Pennsylvania as well in case this is needed. [link] [comments] |
Looking for one day or one month insurance Posted: 29 Jan 2019 04:06 PM PST Hi, so I live in New York and was wondering where I can get 1 day or 1 month RV insurance for my converted R.V as I need to move it from CT to NY, and I'm stuck. Anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments] |
Best way to rent an exotic for someone with a license but without a car/car insurance? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 12:04 PM PST Hi everyone, I'll be in Vegas with a friend of mine in the near future and we're looking at renting a Huracan for a day or two. I have insurance and would be fine driving, but the rental company asks that both drivers have written proof of liability coverage. I've done a little research and it seems like purchasing non-owner car insurance for (as little time as possible) could be the way to go. Have any of you come across this before? Would that be the best way to enable him to drive the car? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Moving away from AAA Insurance, but can i still use AAA roadside service? | Greater detroit area Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:55 AM PST Hello, I live in Greater Detroit area and i'm currently with AAA insurance. Right now, AAA is expensive for me and i found progressive to be cheaper with the same coverages. I want to go with Progressive for insurance but i still want to use AAA's Plus membership roadside assistance. Is this possible? Or do i have to have an active insurance coverage with AAA for the roadside assistance to work? [link] [comments] |
Dental agent/insurance question! Am I getting screwed over? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:29 AM PST Is there usually an enrollment fee for signing up with dental insurance? Am I getting screwed over or is this normal? Location: GEORGIA I'm currently working with a health insurance agent and she got me a great plan for 2019. However, it seems that she dropped off the face of the earth after the enrollment period for health insurance and after she got her $150 enrollment fee processed. A friend later told me that he has never been charged for enrollment fees, just the first month of insurance. Full disclosure: I absolutely do not mind paying someone for their service, I just had a few people say they did not pay an enrollment fee, something about agents getting paid from the insurance company they sell. I still needed dental insurance since I have an implant and crown surgery coming up. She told me that we can always sign up for that later and let's just get the health insurance out of the way. She also said that I won't have to pay for another enrollment fee since I had paid for it the first time with health insurance. I have been sending her requests for updates at least once a week, requesting suggestions for dental supplementary, options etc. She is just getting back to me now, a month and a half later, about dental insurance options. There is also a little section about a $50 enrollment fee. Now I don't know if this goes to the agent or the dental insurance company. I guess what I'm trying to ask, am I getting screwed over? And if so, how do I find another local health insurance agent? What kind of questions do you ask to weed out a quality insurance agent? I once tried to find an agent on my own, and she ended up forgetting half the stuff I told her and would ask the same questions 3-4 times. Simple questions like my birthday @.@ I'm a little traumatized from finding insurance agents on my own so any advice would really help! Also I'm new to having insurance so this world is really foreign to me. [link] [comments] |
[58M][Alabama] Just had hip surgery, FMLA expired Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:02 AM PST I am writing this on behalf of my dad. FMLA just expired this morning, and insurance will lapse on the 31st (2 days from now). He will be receiving COBRA paperwork shortly but does not have the money for it. We are looking into the available options to retain/obtain some form of (affordable) insurance until he is able to work again. Failing that, a list of resources that may help him to continue his recovery at home. Positive aspects of the situation:

Any advice is greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |
