Any "I quit my full time job" success stories? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 12:24 PM PST Been considering this for a while, but anyone quit their full time job and had success? I'm running a side business that has gotten me some work on the side. I know if I went full time I can make it work but I'm really nervous about quitting my full time job. I got a $20,000 proposal in the works right now and I'll probably make away with $6000 if it goes though. But that's an example of what I can expect if I went full time. If I were to quit I would pull what I've contributed to my retirement which is about $32,000. I know I will be taxed on it but it should keep me afloat for 6-9 months, maybe a year because I get VA disability. Has anyone done this? What would be your advice to me? What did you have in place before you quit or would consider quitting? My fallback plan would be to get a IT contracting job or find another job in or around my local area. I've worked in IT for 12+ years, have many certifications, and have my BAS in IT Security. I'm fairly certain I'll be able to find something quickly if need be. Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |

Digital Payments, Cashless Society, and SMEs: what did the Finnoq community say? Posted: 30 Jan 2019 04:36 AM PST The community said SMEs would be better off in a totally cashless society, emphatically. Any other ideas from you all? [link] [comments] |

Commercial Auto insurance on photography business Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:19 PM PST I'm currently shopping for business insurance for my photography business (home based) and GEICO (my personal car insurance) stated that I need to have commercial auto insurance. They said if I'm driving for a photoshoot, and I get into an accident, they won't cover my personal auto policy because it was a business matter... is this true? [link] [comments] |
I need help dissolving/closing my small business in Louisiana. Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:29 PM PST Just as stated in the title.. I have no idea where or how to start the process. I believe I went into business for the wrong reasons and realize it's just way too much for me to handle. I believe it's an LLC, but it was a sole proprietorship until the CPA I saw once changed it. I also have a few tax problems I need to take care of. Any help would be greatly appreciated! [link] [comments] |

X-post: Please, need advice on small business balance dispute (TX) Posted: 29 Jan 2019 09:29 PM PST I posted this to r/legaladvice but thought I'd seek some advice here too. Backstory: This is in Texas. I hired a local lawn care company around 3 years ago. We had no contract or anything in writing. A simple yard service understanding that they will mow/edge/blow for like $35-$40 per service. The payment was sent via an on-line bill pay through my bank's checking account. I would always submit my payment before their proposed deadline in the statement they would send to my email but through some sort of processing hiccup my payment would not be processed on their end till after the deadline and I began getting hit with late fees regularly in spite of submitting on time. This went on for a while and eventually I fired the company over the dispute. On my last payment it did not successfully process for some reason even though I tried to send it and be done with them. Some time went by and the company began contacting me letting me know the payment was not successful and again tacked on more late fees. Now this is annoying and as a matter of principle I did not submit payment because I do not agree with all the late fees they kept hitting me with and I have since ghosted them. I may owe legitimately somewhere in the neighborhood of $150 for the final payment that didn't go through but now the last statement I received says I owe a total of something like $360. I understand this is not a ton of money but nonetheless I am wondering where I stand legally with no written agreement and late fees that I would clearly dispute. They have begun to text and e-mail me about once a month and I am tired of hearing from them as they have not serviced my yard in over two years. Can anyone here give me a better understanding of how to proceed in these circumstances and what I may or may not be required to owe? I'd like to settle this up and get them out of my hair but I do not believe I owe what they claim. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
Looking for a business partner during the preliminary stages. (Cannabis industry) Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:08 PM PST Hey everyone, pretty new to reddit. So basically, i have a perfect business model, and I'm looking for someone to co-own the business with me. Here's the catch, it's in the cannabis industry, (legal state, NV). I work in the industry legally currently as my day job, can't stand the way the businesses are run around here, and I know with my systems and the technology I've built the model around would blow the competitions product out of the water. The market is easy. It's the freaking green rush. Now this is super preliminary. And my plan requires a facility to be built. The final product is going to be expensive. No retrofitting some random place. I am having trouble finding serious people here though. Everyone flakes or I never hear from them again. I understand people aren't built to own or create or whatever but man.. it seems I can only find dreamers instead of doers in this industry. Any advice? [link] [comments] |
Looking to start a small social media management/consulting business in NYC.. looking for advice Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:32 PM PST I'm 24 and really knowledgeable with social media and building a strong online presence. Is it weird if you call a business and it goes straight to voicemail? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:15 PM PST We're testing out a new phone service and we can make it go straight to voicemail vs ringing a few times then it goes to VM anyways. Right now our phone support sucks as far as us picking up. We're always out meeting people and making deliveries. Would it be weird to make it go to VM & then calling people back shortly after? I'm assuming you guys will tell me how potential customers can just call my competitors in the mean time. (Which I understand & is a concern) [link] [comments] |
**Building A Fund From The Ground Up** Posted: 29 Jan 2019 12:33 PM PST Hello Everyone. Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post, I really do appreciate it and if you have any feedback please feel free to post below. Moving on. My name is Jonathan, I live in Northern Ireland (UK) and I am on a journey to open my own sports fund. A sports fund, for those who may not know, is a company that pools money together from clients and proceeds to invest/bet with it on the sports market. With a great strategy, specifically aimed at horse racing, tight money management and solid discipline I want to take my success further by setting up my own fund. Many of you may say "why not just become a tipster and sell tips" but this is not what I want to do. I want to build a business and help it grow with the intentions of one day passing on my knowledge and the business to my children. Call me silly or ignorant but I am set on this path. Some may also ask about being closed or limited by the bookies. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Due to past success I've been though this and therefore I've moved across to betting exchanges a while ago. Now that I have put a few things into perspective let me ask for the help I'm seeking. I have been trading for a few years however I have only have records dating back to December 2018 (2 Months). Therefore the advice I hope to gain from this platform will not be put into action until I have at least 18 months of positive records/results. Currently I am speaking with a business adviser from a free government agency (Invest NI) on how I should legally go about setting up my business and any legal requirements that I must meet. By the end of the year I should have at least 14 months of results, I should be incorporated, Logos/websites/business plan etc all set up and ready to go. The reason why I am posting all of the above is because I wish to skip the small talk that I see in many other forums. I want to show you everything I've done and plan to do. The question is for anyone else who has went down this path could you please provide any information on the legalities of setting up a sports fund and managing it directly. I know that for a financial hedge fund you can only bring on accredited investors but is this the same when it comes to "gambling" in the sports market? Also is there advice you would give me on how I could walk down a smoother path without facing problems which can be easily avoided or overcome? Any other advice which may help me on my journey would also be priceless. Once again I would like to thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my post and i really would appreciate any feedback (specifically on the legalities of bringing in capital) or advice you may have. All comments will be taken into consideration however any advice given will be passed through my business adviser to ensure it is legal. Thank you. Kind Regards Jonathan [link] [comments] |
How to be a leader as an introvert Posted: 29 Jan 2019 11:06 AM PST As an empathetic introvert, I find employee management is my most difficult challenge. I want my employees to feel appreciated and supported, but I also want to be left alone to do my work. Are there any recommendations for reading and learning how to be a good leader, despite or because of your introversion? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:12 AM PST I have a website selling apparel and I have people interested in putting their designs for sale on my site. I will be printing, shipping, billing, etc. I'm not sure if I should research royalties or licensing? In a google search, they seem to be interchangeable. Does anyone have any experience and/or advice? TIA [link] [comments] |
New Food & Beverage Industry Forum Posted: 29 Jan 2019 07:52 PM PST Hi- I have been working on a food & beverage focused discussion forum the last few weeks/month (something I think is sorely missing from the marketplace), and wanted to see if I could get a few opinions/suggestions. Its meant to facilitate conversation between the various cogs in the wheel when it comes to getting goods from the warehouse, to the store shelf, to the consumer. This may be seen to compete with whats going on here, but I feel its a different type of community. [link] [comments] |
I am a 1 man S-Corp making over 200k, do I need a payroll service to manage my payroll taxes? Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:50 PM PST Should I do it myself? If so are there any good guides on how to do it? Is there any good software than can assist in doing payroll myself? Should I pay a payroll service to do it. Any suggestions for payroll services? [link] [comments] |
I have a questions regarding contracting for construction and cleaning service jobs. Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:36 PM PST I want to possibly start a contracting business. I'm just starting my research so I'm learning. The reason for the business is because my dad owns a construction company and my mom has a cleaning service. I'd love to be able to find jobs for them, bid and do everything and just have them come in do the jobs and I would pay them. Is this beneficial? How much money should I have invested before I start doing something like this? Cost wise what can something like this cost? I assume I'd have to have insurance, licenses etc. but they both have that stuff as well. Is it worth doing it? Going to school to get a general contractor license or would it be more beneficial to just do it as their employee? Reason I want to do it in my own is because I can make the prices. And pay them what they charge. I don't have to have an hourly wage or whatever through them. Any tips? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a CRM/ERP software recommendation for a startup with no money Posted: 29 Jan 2019 06:09 PM PST Hi all, I sell branded merchandise from local wholesalers. I'm about to take on some commission-only sales agents. I'm presently using Bitrix24, which is free for 12 users, rises to $35 per month for 24 users and $89 for 50 users. That's pretty awesome for what it offers. I like the CRM a lot, although I haven't used any of the other features. But what I need to add to this kind of system is:
The reason is I will have sales agents winning business, and it's my job to manage orders and the branding/decoration task, banking, and payment to agents based on each deal's gross profit. What I really want is something that allows me to select lines from the invoice and add them to a PO, select a supplier, and hit send, and for it to email a PDF of the PO to the supplier. I think each Deal or Sale or whatever needs to have a single identifier to tie in all the outgoings with the income, so I can calculate the GP and pay the agent. I think Project platforms could work for the delivery stage of deals, with steps like "get payment", "get client artwork", "order stock", "order decoration", "get client artwork approval", "confirm approval to Production" and automatically triggering things like messages to the agents to forward to their clients as needed. Things that are easily missed are mistakes like leaving off one or more items from a PO - so it would be great to have something that left a task open until all steps were resolved. I've seen and installed a bunch of CRM options but I've come back to Bitrix. I am seeing a few references to ERPNext and some others. Has anyone got any input about them? I'm trying not to buy into a per-user licence model, because as the company grows, that's going to get very expensive. I know self-hosting gets expensive when there are problems, but it's something I can afford right now as I'm an IT guy and can do the setup myself. I like Bitrix's pricing, so if I opt for a commercial offering it will be something in that ball park. Cheaper than hosted Exchange mailboxes is my yardstick - about $8 a month per user. I'd be really grateful to know what others are using. [link] [comments] |
Engineering/Design Business Project Management Solution Posted: 29 Jan 2019 08:10 AM PST Hi Ladies and Gents, I've recently started on at an engineering and design firm as project manager. I'm 6 days in today and am looking at a handful of inefficiencies and redundancies and am in search of a system that can streamline our project management and billing/time tracking and integrate with QBO. I'm planning a trial of Salesforce and of Quickbase. Does anyone have a recommendation for another solution? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Same Name Rivals, (unintentionally) Posted: 29 Jan 2019 05:19 PM PST So we found a business rival thats apparently been in busy longer than we have with very similiar names today. We had a new client and field vehicle is marked with our business name/logo and we saw an individual staring at our van with similiar equipment as us. No words were traded as she scampered as we approached, but we saw a similiar design. Due to the name of our business, it's logical to have the design so we thought and checked. We checked for available names when we registered, but we didn't check OTHER business names similiar to ours. Lo and behold, we found our alternate universe counterpart, one of us had services and the other had LLC, otherwise same spelling. We haven't been directly approached, but the counterpart is trying to say that "we are operating under their name.". They didn't tag us or mention us by name but we are confident because the post was put up the same day of the scampering/staring employee incident, and we got easily an noticable increase in page views (not a bad thing but something we noticed) Just looking for advice, thanks!
