Would my spouse be added to my family's health insurance? Insurance

Would my spouse be added to my family's health insurance?

    Posted: 30 Dec 2018 01:27 AM PST

My girlfriend and I are planning on getting married, and she currently doesn't have health insurance. Would she then be able to receive the same benefits that I do?

Travel insurance won't cover travel. Help? (Canada)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 02:57 PM PST

My dad is over 65. Has a trip in 2 weeks. A couple weeks ago a doctor checkup resulted in a heart medication dose change. There are no heart issues in itself, ticking just fine, just blood pressure medication.

When getting insurance for the trip it was discovered that he can't be insured because of the medication change. He is now considered unstable medically until a period of 3-6 months has passed. And can't be insured until he is stable.

Is there anything that can be done? Or is best plan to cancel the trip?

    Thx

Making sure my car is ok and insured

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 08:26 PM PST

I recently got a job working for a pizza joint in Virginia. I have liability insurance on my car at the moment and the company has some sort of policy as well. But when I spoke to my insurance they said they dont cover pizza delivery at all. My job has never heard of this. Am I supposed to get a special policy or was my insurance mistaken. I just wanna make sure I'm ok if God forbid something gappens.

Parents lost their house to a fire. Questions about the rebuilding process

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:46 AM PST

Over the holidays, my parents lost their house to a fire. Fortunately, nobody was injured, but lots of family mementos were lost. :(

They're still dealing with the loss and I'd like to try and help out with the logistics of the rebuilding process through State Farm, their insurance company. Never done this before, so looking for some help:

    • they have replacement value insurance, so my understanding is they can rebuild their house to a similar spec, correct?
    • assuming yes, how is "similar spec" determined? Does it have to be the exact same house or can they make changes? If they make changes, who determine (and how) if it's "similar spec". For example, I know my mother will want a bigger kitchen and, being empty nesters, they may not want as many bedrooms. Just confused on how this part works. Obviously, if they have carpet and linoleum, they can't upgrade to exotic hardwoods and marble - I get that part.
    • I've read online that the insurance company will give them a check for the actual value to start with and then they can submit for reimbursement to replacement value after they purchased an item. Is this correct?
    • they have a decent house inventory, but no receipts for much of their older stuff. How is value determined on a couch, for example, if the company they bought it from went out of business years ago?
    • basically, how difficult is the insurance company going to make this? They're insured for a comfortable amount - about $175/sq ft and construction costs in their area are around $150-$175. So can they just rebuild any house they want (within reason) as long as it stays under the amount theyre insured for?

Last, any other items I should look out for/ask the insurance company about as we start this process?

    Multiple auto claim help?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 01:36 PM PST

Let me start here; I'm 22 years old, female. I haven't filed a claim since August 2016 where I was found at fault to an accident claim. My company told me I have accident forgiveness now.

On December 21st I filed a claim with my insurance company because I hit a deer. I've had the estimate done and have an appointment for the repairs.

Today the car in front of me slammed their brakes, and I did too however the roads were slick and I slid into the car in front of me. I have a decent amount of damage to the front of my car. My question is, will my insurance allow me to cancel my first claim to file this second incident instead? So that I can use my accident forgiveness to cover this instead (as the damages are both to the front bumper of my vehicle)? Or could my insurance try and drop me since this would be 2 incidents within a week?

    Renters Insurance Dog Liability Question

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 06:33 PM PST

Looking into added a furry friend to our family and curious how renters insurance should affect our decision.

    Specific Questions:

    1) does Allstate renters insurance include liability coverage for incidents related to dogs

    2) does Allstate have a restricted breed list for this type of coverage? (We are looking at adopting an Australian Shepherd puppy)

    3) does landlords homeowner insurance come into play here?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

Request for advice on special enrollment.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 03:27 PM PST

So my employer contacted me two weeks ago informing me that my coverage will be ending since I've taken part time hours (less than 30). Coverage ends on the 31st. Upon hearing this I went to health.gov and enrolled in a plan through special enrollment. I've submitted documentation for eligibility and a 1040 for personal income, and my application still says pending (I think it takes two weeks to process) However, the insurance company hasn't contacted me (Blue Cross) about paying the first month's premium so I'm pretty sure I'll be without coverage until they do so and I am able to pay. I was able to contact Blue Cross briefly a few days ago and the rep seemed irritated by my question since I wasn't in their system and told me to call Health.gov... I did that and they told me to call Blue Cross... support is only available on weekdays though so I was unable to this afternoon.

Anyway, should I purchase short term insurance to cover me this month?

I'm going to call Blue Cross again on Monday, but I'm pretty sure I'm high and dry until they ask for payment of the first premium. Although, I'd like to avoid paying an additional $50 for the short term coverage.

    Thanks for any advice.

Denied In Network Exception and Claim Reimbursement issues spanning MONTHS

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 03:12 PM PST

Issue: One Time In Network Request for covered treatment denied; covered treatment submitted for reimbursement at out of network level (in August, Services were also in August) has been resubmitted to Cigna 4 times and i still have not received any reimbursement since I submitted this 4.5 months ago.

Background: I am under my spouse's employer-sponsored CIGNA health insurance plan (PPO) that has a $15k Lifetime Maximum for infertility treatment. The plan provides 70% coverage for out of network providers that includes infertility. Though we initially submitted an In Network Exception request for our provider as we have specific medical reasoning to support this, we did not get the request approved ahead of our scheduled treatment and were advised by Cigna to submit for reimbursement at the out of network level, The request for In Network Exception was denied, and we were once again advised to wait to file our appeal for In Network request once reimbursement has been fully processed as an appeal can delay payment.

This issue has created substantial financial and emotional burden as I am out of pocket $10,000 for covered treatment and causing other claims for different treatment to be delayed as well. Cigna claims the original claim was lost somewhere in their system, we have resubmitted more than 4 times, and this is still dragging out because of Cigna systems. I filed a complaint with the State Health Insurance Commissioner and informed that they were unable to provide assistance as our health insurance plan is a self-pay plan. The employer has been absolutely useless and I'm at a total loss with other options to resolve this.

I am at the point of contacting an attorney and open to any and all advice.

    Allstate Accident Forgivness policy

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 02:38 PM PST

Hello, I recently got into an accident where I rear ended someone. Thier vehicle was not damaged as badly as my front bumper. I'm just a bit scrambled right now because I have never been in an accident before and not sure how the procedure is. Basically I'm covered under my parents insurance alongside with my brother. My brother was also in an accident back in 2014, this is my first accident and wanted to know if I would be covered in the first time forgiveness plan as well or is it a 1 per policy. Any input is much appreciated

To Cobra, or not to Cobra?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 08:35 AM PST

My husband is switching companies and we will have a one month period without insurance. The Cobra cost for our family of three is 2k. The HR manager from his previous company is advising against purchasing Cobra and says to pay out of pocket for everything as it will probably be cheaper. She says in the event of an emergency you can call and add the Cobra at anytime. I am sceptical of this and extremely uncomfortable not purchasing the insurance. I would rather just pay the 2k for peace of mind. Thoughts ?

    New driver Insurance Rules

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:38 PM PST

Hi everyone, i wanted to know some legal rules. I reside in Illinois.

    1) I am 23 years old. is it mandatory to get auto insurance if i get a driver's license but do NOT drive the car?[PLEASE DO ANSWER #1]

    2) Asking this, because i am not sure how much the price will increase when I am added to my parent's auto insurance. My friends have been able to be added to their parents policy for literally $0 increment (with statefarm). Not sure if i will be able to get same quote.

Former employer did not offer COBRA benefits within the proper amount of time...what is my recourse?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2018 12:24 PM PST

I left my employer on good terms in mid-October of this year. A month after I left, I was diagnosed with a very rare, incurable immune disorder which has left me with around $100k worth of medical bills so far. I'm not even 40, so needless to say this came as a complete shock. Today I received a letter in the mail from my former employer, admitting that an error had been made and that I had not been notified of COBRA benefits within the specified time frame. In the letter they note that I have accrued $12k of medical bills (I don't believe they are aware of any debt above that amount), and offer for the company to pay that debt on my behalf. However, here's where it gets tricky. My family has also been covered by Ohio Medicaid for the entire year of 2018, and they have paid my medical bills since I separated from my company. So far they haven't given me any problems, although they have been trying to claim that my company plan is still active even after the cancellation date. I have proof of the cancellation date, though, which I think will be sufficient once I submit it. My question is, if my employer tries to pay medical debt already paid through Medicaid, will Medicaid come after me for claims they've already paid? Medicaid never paid claims when I had employer-sponsored insurance, they were clear that they were only listed as a secondary plan. I'm not sure if I should contact CareSource (Medicaid) and ask them, or keep this info to myself and let the companies work it out between themselves. I'm worried that bills, both past and future, will be thrown into question and I will be stuck holding the bill. Any advice is appreciated!

Aunt wants me to lie about address when her car was stolen

    Posted: 28 Dec 2018 07:58 PM PST

As the title states, my aunt wants me to lie to her insurance company about when she lived at my address. She lived with me for a short time but three years ago and not recently as she has told Gieco.

About a few months ago her car was stolen from her complex. She never called the police and never filed a report. I think it's because she didn't have theft loss coverage. So maybe she added it and waited a few months changed her address from mine to her actual address. I never knew she used my address until she mentioned it in passing a month ago which I was not okay with because the rates were significantly cheaper at my address.

Now Gieco is calling me asking to verify when she lived at the address. I do not want to lie but she is making it seem like its no big deal. What kind of trouble could I get in for lying about something like this?
