UPDATE FROM MODS: Meme submissions are now frowned upon/against the rules

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:51 AM PST

First and foremost, Happy Holidays to everyone!

Now, we just wanted to let you all know that this sub will no longer be accepting memes, or images/videos/GIFs with, or without superimposed text. These submissions kind of fall under our zero effort prohibition, and so we are going to enforce this from now on. The official rules, along with the sidebar rules section, have been updated to reflect the change.

We understand that everyone here loves a lighthearted discussion once in a while, and that we all love bagging on the profession to the extent that it's ran outta town on a rail. However, we feel that such entertaining values should be kept within a valuable discussion post, and not just solely based on the piqued interest by a low effort meme. We really want to keep you guys happy with the professional, quality content that you receive, so we want to limit any distortion that may come about from low effort posts.

All current posts/memes/images that have been submitted in the past will remain, simply for archive purposes. However, keep in mind that in the future these posts will no longer have any merit as valid submissions.

Now, let's get the negative out of the way:

    1. First violation - Post removal; 5-day ban.

    2. Second violation - Post removal, plus permanent, indefinite ban; no exceptions.

Please be respectful of our sub and the users and help us maintain the high quality that we have all come to appreciate here. Thank you all for being loyal, amazing users! Take care, and, again, Happy Holidays!

Finally getting my accounts January. Thank you r/sales for putting up with my $hit

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:01 AM PST

It's been a tough couple of months learning as much as possible. Mistakes. Tough lessons. My manager is happy to assign my accounts in January. I'm going to be managing around 140.

I've not been the easiest person to deal with. I've asked questions. This is a thank you to everyone in this sub. I appreciate every bit of honesty and wisdom you've thrown my way. It's easy to get wrapped up in yourself and I needed a push to wake me up.

UPDATE: I'm a total dud when it comes to small talk

    Posted: 06 Dec 2018 08:04 PM PST

Earlier this week I asked for some advice on how to create small talk when I am in an office environment. Today, I traveled from Chicago to Nashville for a "lunch and learn" meeting. I knew this company was considering using a product we offer on their project. However, I usually fall on my face when it comes to moving forward with anything and it's because I'm super awkward from the get-go. I used plenty of the tips I was handed from this sub while everyone ate lunch that I brought in for them. I was honestly surprised at my ability to hold everyone's attention and being able to run the room with just general small talk/ice breaking questions. We moved into the presentation of what product I can provide on the job and it went amazing. I then moved into the pitch with the few that were actually involved with buying our product and I landed it all. I walked away with a letter of intent! Thank you to everyone who reached out and gave me advice earlier this week. I love all of you!

    Inside Sales 1099

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:35 AM PST

    Hello /R/sales,

I am a career sales person with a long history in automotive, medium history in smb web development services and short history in SaaS.

I just accepted my first 1099 Inside sales position at a marketing/lead generation start up in the Bay Area.

I have never worked 1099 or at a start up before. There are only 6 other employees. I am wondering what I should expect from this type of a start up environment and I what I should be looking for.

I have started a couple of small businesses in the past, but never with investor backing just out of pocket.

This service we are providing is targeting the home improvement industry.

    TL;DR : What should I expect out of a 1099 sales position @ a start up?

    Best, Disco

Interviewing for AE position as a current SDR. What’s my “plan of attack” to achieve success?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:42 AM PST

As the title says, I'd like to have a plan of attack to present to the interviewer to show that I'm ready to hit the ground running. I work in the cyber security SaaS industry and would be selling to mid market accounts.

Does anyone have any advice, experience, or tips on what this plan should look like?

Got my first SaaS B2B role today and couldn’t be happier

    Posted: 06 Dec 2018 05:56 PM PST

I've been reading this subreddit over the past few months as I was trying to land a B2B role. I interviewed this morning at a SaaS company and later this afternoon HR called to offer me the position. I want to thank all of you for the solid advice and anecdotes you all have posted. I'm beyond excited to start in my new role and I couldn't have done it without the tips and advice I've picked up from here.

500 cold emails, 35% open rate, BUT only 1 response

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 04:34 AM PST

    Hi guys,

We do website speed optimization for small businesses. We get clients from 2 paid channels and clients are happy with the result. They like us because: * we deliver in 24 hour * we refund in full if speed doesn't increased 2X * price is 49 one-time

Anyway, after some success from our first 50 clients we decided to start outreaching small businesses.

I worked with a talented guy to collect web address, email, current speed.

We made a list with 500 small businesses.

Used website address in subject, Used website address and current speed in email body.

And, I've sent emails with Gmass. And result is

    35% open rate

    Just 1 responses

I am so dissapointed :( This shows my subject is good but my email body didn't trigger them.

    Here is my email body:

    ——

    Hey,

I saw {domain} on Yelp and was impressed by your high rating for your category. We help small businesses get more clients by increasing their website speed by 100%.

Increasing speed helps them to: - Improve their ranks in Google - Prevent people from leaving the site when it doesn't load fast enough

We would like to extend to you a free audit where we will identify the top 5 ways you can improve your website.

If you would like having us help with that, our website speed optimization package costs $49 flat, no hidden fees.

Are you interested in optimizing your website speed?

P.S. Your current website speed is {speed} because of your {size} size and {requests} requests.

    Sincerely, {agentname}

    ——

Do you have any advice to write some good content to trigger for responses. Are there any good & quick hacks?

    Thanks a lot 🙏

Any Asian or Indian guys working in SaaS? What has your experience been like?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:36 AM PST

I know across LinkedIn they are talking about the discrimination women face in sales but I find that there is no shortage of women (of any color) on a lot of SaaS teams. What always puzzled me is how the engineering teams are full of Asian and Indian men but for a lot of the big dogs in SaaS, not too many on the sales side.

Sometimes I wonder if certain HR Departments and hiring managers aren't too comfortable with bringing on board men from a given background due to certain worries. I have seen some Asian and Indian guys killing it in startups but not too many selling for the major names in SaaS as much as these companies might talk about "diversity".

I wanted to hear the stories of Asian and Indian men working in SaaS, what has your experience been like?

Anyone have any advice for selling OLM (Online Listing Management) to small businesses?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 11:26 AM PST

I will include that we can already see their visibility % online before we contact them but that doesnt always do the trick.

Thinking about cold calling HR at a company I want to work for who are looking for SDR's

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 10:01 AM PST

I've now applied twice to the same job through different channels, email and LinkedIn and tried adding the HR manager on linkedin. I'm a top candidate for the role but I think that my resume might give off the impression that I'm job hoping since I've only been at my current job for 6 months and I was at another SaaS company before for 5 months where I worked as a contractor on 100% Commission.

For those of you who've a cold called a recruiter or HR manager what kind of questions did you ask them regarding the position you wanted?

When should I reach out to my recruiter?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 09:56 AM PST

I had an interview in November on 11/19 After the interview, the recruiter told me that I will know if I was hired the beginning of the next week (due to the fact that I interviewed during a holiday week)

I called the following Tuesday on 11/27 and left a message to the recruiter following up The recruiter emailed me and thanked me for following up and told me that the hiring manager is still interviewing candidates and will be making final decisions in the next 2 weeks, and that she will keep me posted once she has an update

It is now 12/7 Should I follow up sometime next week? If yes, when?

    SEO/PPC Sales to Local Services

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 07:15 AM PST

    Hey Guys,

Was wondering if anyone had any help or advice on how to conduct SEO/PPC (digital marketing) sales to local service companies such as plumbers, electricians, HVAC, etc.

I would go cold knocking since I believe this is probably the best way to conduct business, especially to establish trust with the owners of these companies, but a lot of these companies don't operate in a specific office and a lot of the owners are usually out at a job. With that said, I have thought about lumpy mail or unique mail pieces but if they don't have an office then this tactic and money would be wasted.

I was thinking about partnering with a convention or conference, but that is going to be something for down the road because I don't have the money to fly out to conferences or anything like that for a few more months.

Does anyone have any advice? I have used cold calling in the past and have secured one client but I think that was me getting incredibly lucky.

    Experience negotiating work from home?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2018 05:02 AM PST

Does anybody here ever apply to roles that don't specifically outline work from home privileges, and then taken interviews and negotiated WFH?

Im in SaaS as an AE, but I want to apply to some SaaS jobs an hour away from me - but could only do it if I only had to be in the office like once a week.

What do you listen to between calls?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2018 05:22 PM PST

New to sales, doing a lot of cold calling. It seems that I have about 2-5 minutes between calls to get everything in order.... info on the business, make sure I know the KDM, the unique points for their business, and such.

I've been listening to Motzart, but on my way home 80's came over the radio and I was getting pumped. So maybe I'm going to switch to that.

To all of my peers out there, eat the fucking frog, smile and dial!

Interviewing and qualifying a new position - questions to ask?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2018 04:17 PM PST

Hi r/sales, I'm in the middle of an interview process where I'll be an early hire at a small but growing company—effectively owning topline.

Their sales to date have been relatively ad hoc, so a part of the role will be establishing a process. They've got more inbound interest than they can handle, hence why they're hiring. I have a good handle on culture. I know what my known unknowns are (how much inbound interest, average deal size, length of sales cycle, current topline, targets for 2019) but don't know about unknown unknowns. What else should I be asking about?

What non-sales people inspire your sales conversations?

    Posted: 06 Dec 2018 04:15 PM PST

I've been thinking about this idea of being inspired in our careers by outside influences. I felt so inspired to work harder and achieve more after Tiger Woods made his run earlier this year with a few amazing finishes and a tournament win. What non-sales people inspire you more to achieve in your work?
