Location: US. Original incident happened in Indiana.

I should first and foremost say that this happened about 10 years ago, so at this point I doubt it's possible to do anything about the situation.

When I was 16, my mom was driving me to a friend's house when her defibrillator starting shocking her repeatedly every few seconds. She thought it was just doing its job, until the shocking continued where it surpassed 40 shocks at 600 volts. This led to severe heart damage and required multiple open-heart surgeries to fix. It turned out that the wires that connected to her box malfunctioned and were sending signals that her heartbeat was off.

It could be some form of PTSD I suffered from seeing my mom nearly die in my arms, but her defibrillator almost triggered again today and it brought back those memories. She told me that her and my dad tried to pinpoint who was responsible (the company who made the wires, the defibrillator company, etc.) but all of the doctors she saw denied responsibility.

Is there anything they can do at this point? I feel like she suffered so much and was given absolutely zero compensation for what happened. It makes me furious knowing how much pain she went through and nothing was done about it.

[Update] Lady want's me to pay her medical bill or she'll sue

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:59 AM PST

Quick update for anyone interested. I was silly to worry, obviously. It was definitely a scam. Thanks for all the advice.

We got a knock on the door this morning. It was the lady and she was sporting some crutches. Apparently my shoveled path works now. She asked if we were going to pay her. I told her no, we would wait for an official letter from her lawyer and let the courts handle it. She tried to argue saying it would be easier to just write her a check or venmo it to her. Still told her no. So she asked for "whatever was in my wallet" to make her go away. I laughed, my husband laughed, we threatened to call the cops. She decided to leave.

My husband is going down to the police station right now to report this situation. We don't expect anything to come of it but just in case she decides to do this again, they'll have a heads up.

How would a man born and raised on his family farm go about getting documented/registered?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 12:31 AM PST

A buddy of mine was born on the family farm and never got a birth certificate or any documents and has spent the majority of his life on the farm, education and all. I'm damn near sure the only time he ever leaves is to hit the gas stop (where I first met him- also where I found out he doesn't even have a driver's license or nothing).

Anyhow couple of days ago we ran into each other filling up the tanks and found out his pa is on his last legs, and we got to talking about what he is going to do now and how he's just going to keep running the show for now. After a while into the conversation reality sort of kicked us both right square in the teeth.

He don't have a birth certificate, no high school diploma, drivers licence not even a bank account. I said he best stop into the county clerk's office to get this mess straightened out I'd even go with him to guarantee he was telling the truth but he's too scared, I mean heck when I realized what I had said I would be too. Really know what can they do arrest him because I don't think they would be able to do anything I mean they can't deport an undocumented man who was born here hard as they might try. I suppose they might try lock him up but he hasn't broken no law (has he)?

So I told him I would try find out what the best course of action might be considering his rather prickly predicament, so here I am asking the good folks of Reddit, anyone got a suggestion? Because to be honest I am way in over my head here on this one and I don't got a damn clue.

Any suggestions and or recommendations would be mighty appreciated.

Thank you for your time, God bless.

My car at a red light was hit by a fire truck. Now they're telling me they won't cover.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 07:43 AM PST

    [TX]

So a few months ago, I was parked at a red light when a fire truck with its sirens on clipped my car, knocking my mirror off.

The firemen were super nice about it, and they gave me a number to make a claim report. I was upset but hey, accidents happen.

I get a phone call yesterday where I was informed that they would not be able to repair the damages because the fire truck had its sirens on -- and therefore not liable. I would understand that if my car was in motion, but I was completely stopped at an intersection, with nowhere to maneuver.

Any advice? Or am I stuck with this one?

Tenant hasn't paid rent in 6 months. Verbal agreement, no signed lease. Do they have rights or can I kick them out during winter months?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 08:06 AM PST

Family friends of ours. New first time landlords

    Location: Madison, WI

Had a college kid move upstairs a business they own

College kid worked for a friend of theirs

Lease agreement was done by word of mouth and a handshake

Kid hasn't paid rent in 6 months

Disrespectful towards owners. Not answering phone calls and avoiding them IRL

Owners are nice, quite people. Non-confrontational and let this go on for too long.

Does this kid have any rights as a tenant, or can they kick him out during the winter months with little to no notice?

I am looking for advise from exmo's or exJW's. My son came out as bi on thanksgiving. Now his JW Ex is refusing to let him see his son for Christmas.

She said it is against his religion. Except the parenting plan gives my son all holidays except thanksgiving. She already taught my grandson that his dad, uncle and grandfather's are part of satans army because they all served in the military. Is there anything he can do. She has money for an attorney but he doesn't.

Journalist wants exclusive rights to my story, but the terms seem unusual

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 09:33 AM PST

I live in the US (Florida) but I'm working with an agent of the Press Association (PA) in the UK (so I've cross-posted to UKLA as well).

I recently published a book while deployed in the military. The story got around on social media but never by any members of the press. The other day I was contacted by a member of the PA in England who said they wanted to interview me — but they wanted me to sign an "agreement" giving them exclusivity.

They wanted to tell my "Real Life" Story Agreement between me and PA. Here is what it says

Thank you for agreeing to share your story exclusively with PA. You agree that: • You will share your story about 'Writing a book while in deployment'. • You will make yourself available to be photographed and/or filmed and you will provide us with any photographs or video footage or other items that are relevant to your story. • You will not give any other interview to any other publication, national or regional newspaper, magazine, radio or TV programme or any other media outlet without our permission. • You confirm that your story is true. • You understand that PA will own all the rights in the story, which is written or filmed as a result of your interview with us. • You give PA permission to use anywhere in print, broadcast or online all the photos and/or video that you give us to accompany your story. • You understand that your story may be published anywhere in the world.

Do I need to get a lawyer? Is this normal? It seems odd that I won't be able to talk to anyone about my story. Would they be able to sue me for breach of contract if I do?

It seems like a great opportunity, just at a steep cost.

The representative said I could withdraw from the agreement at any time but I don't see that written into the agreement.

    Thank you.

Fancy NYC Hotel "Lost" My Bag - Bag Contained Approx. $10K of Personal Belongings

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 01:09 AM PST

On Tuesday afternoon, I checked out of a hotel in NYC that's part of a well-regarded 'group'. I left the hotel shortly after 1.00 PM and returned at 5.00 PM. At around 6.00 PM, I went to collect my baggage. One bag was missing. This bag had approximately $10K worth of personal belongings in it, including a Macbook, a Lady Dior bag, a vintage Chanel dress, a vintage Raymond Weil watch, and jewellery that belonged to my late grandmother. (Disclaimer: I'm not rich. Some of these were gifts, while others were things I saved up for.) I was in the middle of a move from the UK to the USA, and unfortunately was in a position where I had to carry around all of my belongings.

I was assured by the hotel that they would locate my luggage and that they would review the security footage. Two hours later, they told me that a guest had taken my bag 'accidentally' from the storage room. They stated that they watched them load my bag into the trunk of their car, along with several other bags. The person I spoke to assured me that they would contact this guest and that he was a 'nice person' so I didn't have to worry (I don't even know how they would know this). I was then told that he was travelling across the Canadian border, but that he would stop in Albany and drop off my bag at a hotel that was a part of the same group. Initially, I was told that I would get my luggage back that evening and that the hotel would hire a car to drive it back to me. So I waited. I waited for hours. Eventually, they admitted that, actually, my bag hadn't been dropped off yet, I wouldn't get it back that evening as promised, and that it would possibly arrive by tomorrow but they didn't know when.

There are a lot of things that I really don't understand. Firstly, why did this guest go into the luggage storage room? Only staff have access to these spaces. Why did they not recognise that the bag they took was not their own or that they had more bags than they arrived with? (The hotel claims that the guest was travelling with 'a girl' who was not with him at the time he left. He thought the bag was hers. Why did he take the bag in the first place, then?) .

I think the hotel messed up. Big time. At best, I think a staff member took my bag out of the storage room and gave it to this guest, who then seized the opportunity to take it, or that the bellhop loaded it into his trunk. They initially tried to claim that I may have given my bag to someone who didn't work for their hotel. I immediately pointed out that, in that case, why did I get all of my other luggage back? From the beginning, the hotel gave me a number of excuses and, worst of all, they disrupted up my travel plans so that I couldn't make it to my next accommodation. I ended up stranded in their lobby, with the repeated and unfulfilled promise that my bag would be with me soon. To be fair, when I pointed this out, they very generously offered to accommodate me for the night...I just had to pay $300. No thanks!

I eventually went to an Airbnb at the last minute and the driver who took me there (at 12.30 AM) told me to call the police. I did, but because I was in Brooklyn and not Manhattan (where the incident occurred) when the police arrived they advised me to go back to the hotel in the morning and call 911.

I worry about what I'll need to do in the worst case scenario. What if I don't get my bag back? How do I get compensation for the lost items (I have receipts for most)? If it's considered a civil matter, I don't know how I'll ever afford a lawyer... If I do get my bag back and something is missing or broken, who is liable and what do I do to get compensation? What is the hotel's liability if this situation resulted from their own negligence?

Honestly, the staff at the hotel seemed annoyed with ME for being upset and acted like I should be more gracious because they were trying to help me. It's now 4.00 AM and I don't know what to do. Any advice?

Police and animal control do nothing when I complain about neighbor's constantly barking dogs but someone from the township says I have to unboard my windows.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 06:20 AM PST

    Country: United States

    State: New Jersey

About a year ago my neighbor got two dogs that bark constantly and between the two there is barking close to 24/7. The bigger one (I don't know anything about dog breeds, so don't ask) is especially loud and it's barking reverberates throughout my entire house. When barking, they are always facing my house and the vast majority of the time it appears they are barking at nothing in particular.

It took me a while but I eventually worked up the courage to talk to my neighbor about it. I did this on two occasions and both times she was extremely dismissive about the whole thing. She even called me I liar when I told her that her dogs were barking at 2am. The day after I spoke with her a second time her husband banged on my door and told me if I ever spoke to his wife or went on his property he would "knock my teeth out".

I called the police numerous times and eventually they told me to stop calling. I also called animal control but they told me they couldn't do anything.

Since it seemed like nobody would ever do anything about the constantly barking dogs, I eventually boarded up my windows. This helped quite a bit but the other day someone from the township told me that I had to unboard my windows or I would be fined. He declined to tell me what the fine would be and when I asked him if I refuse to unboard the windows and opted to just pay the fine, he said there would be "more serious" consequences if I keep them boarded up long term.

I have no idea what to do. I am a NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) and I spend 22-24 hours a day in my house. The barking was driving me mad before and I'm extremely reluctant to unboard the windows. I tried other methods of soundproofing the windows, but nothing worked like just boarding them up. The one dog can bark like no other, and completely overpowers everything, including white noise.

Can the township do something like put a lien on my house? What is the absolute worst the township can do?

If it matters, I own the house and I am the sole resident. Also if it matters, I plan on selling the house next year.

I was raided by an FDA swat team, never charged, and they won't give me my stuff back

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 09:37 PM PST

Background: I was a general manager at an online supplements company. I worked remotely in Texas and our warehouse was in another state. We were doing financially very well. I was not aware that there was any chicanery at the company. I'm still not aware of what exactly happened.

The raid: I went on a vacation on a Tuesday. On a Wednesday, an FDA swat team that had been staying in a local hotel entered my house. They took a bunch of my roommates electronics and interrogated my confused roommates. A simultaneous raid took place on our companies warehouse in a separate state at the exact same time. The Feds took all our stuff from the warehouse and apparently charged our CEO with criminal smuggling? So, it was some kind of customs issue? I really have no idea.

From my house, they took my roommate's electronics and some old unused phones. They took some vials with sugar in them. And they took a couple of small pouches of supplements that I had used to send to chemical testing companies to check for purity. They took my roommate's kratom and when he went to get it back, they told him to "quit smoking this stuff". Apparently, the FDA was unaware that kratom is 100% legal, and people don't smoke it. The company I worked for never sold kratom, so it was very weird. IDK, the whole thing seemed keystone-copsesque.

After the raid: I got the email of the head agent in charge and told him that I have nothing to hide and would be happy to talk to him. I let him know I wanted my stuff back. I figured they had copied all the electronic drives (which contain nothing related to the company I worked for) and would be ok with the exchange. I told him I would have to forward some of the questions he might ask to our corporate attorney. I also told him I would be happy to let him copy my laptop. I don't have any idea what he was looking for, but whatever he was looking for would have been on my laptop. Initially, he seemed somewhat interested in meeting, but eventually, he decided he didn't want to meet. I suspect part of it is that he didn't want to drive 2 hours to my city. He seemed uninterested in meeting close to my house and wanted to meet in-between our cities. I told him I had to work, so I would rather meet him near my house. He was uninterested. He said he would keep all the stuff until after the trial was over. This is very weird because nothing he has is related to the company.

Corporate Attorney: She said it is very unlikely that any charges would be against me. I haven't talked to her for a while and I haven't received any more information from the Feds. This all happened over six months ago.

My question: How do I get my roommates stuff back? Frankly, the whole situation has rattled me. I felt helpless. I feel like my 4th amendment rights have been violated. It is incredible that these guys must have spent many tens of thousands of dollars just to take my roommate's electronics and some vials of sugar. If they had just told us what we were doing wrong, we would have immediately corrected it. Instead, they dialed it up to 11. Apparently, they had been spying on us for at least six months without letting us know that we had violated the law. The whole thing has been a shock to the system, and I feel like emotionally I haven't had any closure. IDK, It's hard to explain. :(

Dentist broke one of my teeth by accident, do I need to pay for this mistake?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 05:29 AM PST

Basically some backstory, I've had really shitty teeth my whole life. A few months ago I pulled the lever and decided to get crowns, which so far has been one of my best choices in life so far.

The process of getting crowns involves trimming down the damaged tooth to the point where a veneer can be inserted. They did as such, then placed the crowns with a temporary cement. After a few weeks, I went back to the office to get them removed and inserted back, this time with permanent cement. All should've gone well, but apparently the temporary cement was too tight for a temporary cement and in the process of yanking the crowns out one of my incisives broke at the base. Now I need a root canal.

Do I need to pay for this? I don't have insurance and am paying from my pocket. Nothing is written down.

    I'm in Spain.

(GA)14Yr Old Actively Trying For A Child

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 11:07 PM PST

As the titles states, there is a child that lives in my very small town that is trying to have a child with her older boyfriend. She made a post on Facebook trying to call people out for talking bad about her, and people tried to rationalize with her telling her that her and her child will share the same Pediatrician and that she isn't even old enough to get a job to provide for it. They stated that her child would be taken away from her unless her family stepped up to raise and that she wouldn't have custody until they decided that she was able to provide for it.

She claimed that her boyfriend promised to stay by her side to care for them and that he would provide for them as a family. She plans on dropping out of middle school to take care of her kid, and her mother either doesn't know or care.

Ex-girlfriend possibly could lose nursing license. Need advice

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 06:45 AM PST

I met my ex girlfriend while I was in a drug inpatient program. She was a nurse there. I'm in a program(supportive living) and just got a new counselor. We tell our life story to them and I told them how I met my ex girlfriend in rehab that she was my nurse etc. yesterday he told me he reported it, and that I have to talk to an investigator today. Am I legally obligated to disclose anything? I am not with her anymore, but she has three kids and I do not want to jeopardize her future and maybe cost her her license. I have to meet with the investigator today. Thank you for reading and any advice I can get. [NY]

Edit; To be more specific, can I go into this today and just tell these people I do not feel comfortable giving a statement? Use my 5th amendment right?

We have to sell my uncle his house but our real estate agent might be up to something

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 04:18 AM PST

Not sure if this is the right sub. But I thought asking it here.

It's a small & old apartment at a prime location in the Netherlands. The price of houses here is at it's highest ever.

Our real estate agent said that he was going to put the house in sale for €200.000 and then he expected people to bid up to €240.000. After 1 day at sale the first person bid 200k already.

Now it's 7 days later and the real estate agent said that he knows a guy who wants to pay 190k, he recommend selling it for this relative low price because he thinks people don't want to bid up to 240k after all. He also said that in the first 2 weeks of the selling it attracts the same amount of viewers as in the 2 months that come after.

I was wondering if things really go like this or he might be up to something ? Does anyone here know what might be up to ?

Landlord sent me letter demanding three months of rent after being evicted, yet the unit has been rented out. What should my next steps be? Minnesota, specifically.

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:55 AM PST

So I was evicted on October 5th. I left like I was supposed to and had my mail going elsewhere. I wasn't able to get my mail for a few weeks until two weeks ago and there was a letter from my old landlord. It's a statement/summary of charges and, among them, he wants money for the next three months (Nov, Dec, Jan). It does say, in the lease, that he gets the next three months of rent UNLESS the unit has been re-rented. I recently went to the unit, last night to be exact, and found out the unit HAS been rented out, since October 25th to be exact. The new tenant was a very nice woman who gave me her phone number and happened to be holding her lease, so showed me it and where the signed and the date. We talked some, she explained she moved in the day she signed the lease, and I also asked her if a door was repaired. She said there was a hole in the main bedroom door that he (the landlord) said he'll fix. Thats the same door I noted on my move in as damaged as well and he told me the same mess, yet is trying to charge me a fee for damaging it. The lady was incredibly nice through all this and even gave me her phone number and said if I need her, I'm free to contact her.

My question is what should/can I do now? Obviously, the unit is rented out and has been since shortly after I left. The door is still damaged and, if the doors still damaged, I worry about what else could still be damaged that he's charging me for that I literally NEVER caused.

Is it legal to prevent employees from discussing wages in florida?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 06:32 AM PST

from what i find the federal law on pay secrecy protects people in companies with federal contracts, but i can't find anything about people who are just hourly workers in a grocery store (only the assistant managers and store manager get a set salary per year)

My mother racked up roughly $3K from fraudulent checks. The bank wants my stepfather to pay them back or go to court. Can he fight back at all?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:22 AM PST

As a little background, my mother wrote these fraudulent checks over 10 years ago. At the time, her and my stepfather shared a joint bank account which has since been closed since their separation in 2008.

They're still legally married to each other. The bank hasn't contacted my mother at all regarding the situation, considering that she's a fugitive and in another state currently. Is he completely fiscally responsible for her actions? Can he fight back at all?

[Update] Landlord threatening to evict if I don’t take guns off property

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 01:18 PM PST

    Original post

Thank you to everyone who commented. I thought I'd post a quick update to the situation.

First, I found that my lease doesn't have anything in it about guns but I wanted to work out something so I could stay in this apartment after my lease is up.

I came to an agreement with my landlord that would allow me to keep one handgun of my choice in the unit for home defense, in a quick access safe securely attached to my bedpost.

As for the other guns, I found a storage facility that specializes in firearms as a user suggested in the original post. It is right by the range I frequent the most and is also pretty close to my home.

All in all, the situation has been resolved and I appreciate all the comments helping me out!

[OR] Porn star using wife's name as alias and receiving some mild harassment. Is it possible to force/threaten the woman into changing her alias?

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 11:38 AM PST

My wife professionally goes by her maiden name which is two very common names (think "Jane Smith" or something similar). My wife is in academia and her work phone, email and office location are easily findable if you Google her name.

My wife started getting weird emails from strangers, which started out rather innocently but now are usually sexually suggestive. She also has gotten some strange sexually suggestive voicemails. At first she thought disgruntled students were playing a prank on her and actually notified campus police but after we did some investigating we found that there is a woman selling pornographic clips of herself using my wife's name as an alias (we assume it's an alias). Now seems like these emails/voicemails are coming from people attempting to reach this woman.

My wife doesn't want to change her name, change her contact info, or delist her contact information (colleagues from other institutions may need to get in touch with her this way). We've attempted to reach out to this woman on Twitter pleading her to change her name and there's no response.

Would it be worth it to discuss with an attorney? I imagine we'd have to subpoena Twitter/the video sale site she uses and then send her a C&D once we have her real name and address. The whole process seems like it'd be long and expensive which is why we're asking if it's even possible for us to force this woman to change her name.

Edit: Also, for full disclosure. My wife legally has my last name but is going by her maiden name for professional reasons. So is the fact she is (sort of) going by an alias as well going to hurt our potential case?

My life was threatened by a client at work, was told I should have threatened a minor, then I was fired

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 10:26 AM PST

I worked at a Residential Treatment program(Yes, I should have known better) for teenagers with autism. I noticed a few weeks prior to this incident that one kid had a tendency to try to keep things that could be used as weapons, sticks, rocks etc. I'd take them away and wrote that in the daily notes. One day that kid broke some rules so I told him he was in trouble. He got mad at me, broke a glass bottle and pointed it at me looking staring intently at my stomach. Myself and the other staff in the room with me calmed him down and told him he wouldn't be in trouble till we could talk to his therapist so they could decide what to do. He told me a little later that it was a good thing I backed down or he would have stabbed me. Needless to say I felt extremely threatened in the midst of that situation and did what I thought would result in no one getting hurt, and no one did.

After things had calmed down a bit I got the bottle away from him and called up his therapist. I was pretty shook up and told them I didn't feel safe being the one to get him in trouble for threatening me and didn't trust any of the other staff present with it either. He called my supervisor who came in and told him his consequences etc. In de-briefing with my supervisor I was obviously very shook up emotionally and was expecting some support. He gave some lip service to that but also gave me the impression that I'd done something wrong somehow. I didn't read too much into it at the time but told him I didn't want to work with that kid anymore and would like to move to a sideways/down a bit position at another residence.

I left for a weeks vacation after that and when I returned I talked to the supervisor over the other residence. He told me he had heard from other people(obviously the other supervisor) that I couldn't be trusted and was too soft on the kids. I told him about the situation the week before and asked him what I should have done differently. And this is where things really went off the rails, he told me he would have "sent the other staff out of the room, told the kid that he could attack me if he wanted but I would fight back and I wouldn't use (The program approved method for dealing with physical confrontations)". I was stunned. But he said he wouldn't put me on shift under him full-time but I could still pick up shifts.

Since he had directly told me to disobey my training for how to deal with physical confrontation I thought it was time to involve his boss. I called him and told him the story up to this point. He listened, never acknowledging that anyone had done anything wrong then asked what I wanted. I said I wanted to be reassured that my life was more important to the company than enforcing rules right away. He said he'd have to consult the manual and couldn't tell me that. Again, I was stunned. Literally, all I was asking is if he preferred my not dying to rules not being enforced, if I was justified in acting out of self-preservation. He asked what I would do if I wasn't told that and I said, "well if you can't tell me my life is more important than x I'd probably need to tell my co-workers that the company didn't value their safety".

I tried to call the clinical director to tell him about all this but he couldn't be reached. I picked up one more shift after that, was called into a meeting with just my previous supervisor and the sideways supervisor (the two people I'd complained) about and was told I was fired. I asked why and was told that I had mishandled some situations and they didn't trust me. I told him I didn't think he had enough information about what happened that night to make a judgment about it, since he had never asked me or the other staff about it. He said I "must have done something wrong because the kid had never done anything like that before".

This was 9-10 months ago, but I wrote down everything that happened at the time because I was just so shocked by it all. It kicked off a serious depressive episode for me, I've got PTSD symptoms from the life-threatening and haven't worked since. I don't know what, if any, laws were broken but it sure doesn't seem right to 1. leave me hanging like that after a traumatic event while at work or 2. To be told in the context of seeking company policy from a supervisor to threaten a minor. or 3. To be told my life was less valuable to the company than their program rules or 4. to be fired without just cause.

I know Utah is an "at will employment state" but don't know exactly what that means for the situation. I'd considered talking to a lawyer at the time but was already pretty depressed so I didn't do it, and thought I'd recover a lot sooner than I have.

    Thanks for reading.

My neighbors dog broke through my fence and killed my dog.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 04:28 PM PST

Over the last 2 years we have called animal control, and the sheriff multiple times because a dog from 2 houses down had broken through their fence and then our fence and attacked my dogs. The dog has caused damage to my fence and come inside my house and damaged my floors, walls and window blinds. This time my next door neighbor witnessed the dog (a pit bull) break the fence and attack my dog while I wasn't home. When i got home my dog was barely breathing and died on the way to the animal ER. She called animal control who said they will need a report filed and they will try to get a DA to declare the dog as dangerous.

I have 2 small kids and now I'm scared to let them play in my backyard. can I press charges on the aggressive dogs owner? How do I go about that? Do I have ground to stand on to sue him for property damage?

Edit: location. I am in Brazoria county Texas. Just south of Houston.

Edit 2: animal control has deemed the dog dangerous and served the owner with papers saying he has 15 days to build a concrete and steel dog enclosure or they will confiscate the dog.

I need advice on custody of my child

    Posted: 05 Dec 2018 11:05 AM PST

    Hello reddit,

I in advance apologize for my english, I know it's not very good, but I really need advice and don't know where elsewhere I can get it. I am female from Europe. I have a 5 month old kid with my boyfriend. We are together for 5 years and it was all perfect. One month after our baby was born, he started gambling and drink heavily. I tried to talk to him and he would've stopped for a week or 2, and than it's just the same all over again. He lost all of our savings and even came to money of our child and lost it too. I don't know what to do anymore, I care about him but I care of wellbeing of my child more. I came to the point where I want to leave him. I didn't say anything to him because I don't want him to be prepared for court. He know if we ever separate I would never want him to be with our child alone. He has son from relationship before, when he wasn't even 18 yet. His son is with us on weekends and I saw couple of times that he wants to hit him when the kid do something that he don't like, but won't because I don't allow it. But I know he used to hit him before, because kid told me. I want to know if we go to court, how can I accomplished that he can't see our baby? I don't need alimony, I don't need nothing for him, just need me and little one far from him.

This is throwaway acc, cause I don't want him to see this. I forgot to ask, would video of him be agressive towards his son be helpful on court? I wouldn't let him hit the son, just screaming at him, and calling him names.

If I am 18 years old, is it legal for me to go and get vaccine shots w/o parental consent or having a parent accompany me?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2018 06:58 PM PST

EDIT: Thank you for the responses so far! I want to disclose that I likely won't actually be seeking out to get vaccines soon (as I don't own a car yet, nor do I have a driver's license) but all of this is VERY helpful for when - in the future - I decide to get vaccinated. Again, thank you. :)

EDIT 2: I also want to clarify, for those who may need more information, that I am 18 years old, am still in high school, and do not currently have either an ID or a driver's license.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask but I'd considered that it would be more appropriate to ask here instead of somewhere like r/NoStupidQuestions.

    Anyways, context:

I live in Washington state (though I also live VERY close to Oregon). My mother is an anti-vaxxer and believes that they have "preservatives" that can give you very bad reactions (even though I'm sure that's a rare occurence), that there was a whistleblower in the CDC, that vaccines gave me autism, yada yada. I do not know what vaccinations I have and have not received and I believe my younger sister (who is around 4, will be turning 5 this year I believe) has not been vaccinated either since birth or at all, except for one time when she got bit by a cat and had to get tetanus shots.

Here's my question: if I am 18 years old, can I stroll on down to some place that offers, for example, free flu shots, and get a flu shot without parental consent? Could I (technically) do it without my parents being there, or would I have to be accompanied by somebody like a relative or friend?
